Review Camberwell Curry House - Camberwell

I come here for chai, samosas and momos. They are the most authentic that you can get in Melbourne. I'm fortunate that it is located close to me. Staff is very polite and always accommodate requests. I highly recommend this place.

I would highly recommend this restaurant. The food is delicious at a great value and the service is very friendly. The food comes to your table quickly but looks and tastes like it has had hours of work put into it. The menu has many options to satisfy any taste. I eat here fairly regularly yet the food does not cease to amaze me every time. Highly recommended if you are craving food of the type.

Amazing food and amazing service. We were there last Saturday and completely happy with the experience. We pay 35 each one for two people and we got entries, mains and dessert, everything really good. I’m thinking go back in two weeks with friends. Thanks guys for this experience By the way the two waitresses that was Saturday at night were very friendly and perfect service.

Ordered catering for a family party - food was absolutely loved by all guests. We usually don’t like food from Indian restaurants as we cook it at home regularly and can’t get the home cooked taste from generic offerings at Indian joints. I specifically requested that the food be made without too much gravy/cream etc.. the head chef listened to my request and everything was cooked home style. Loved the aloo Gobi and goat curry! Thank you so much!

I ate here with three families including 6 kids. All of us were delighted to delicious food, nice ambience and friendly staff. We stopped here on our way. It made our journey delightful. I recommend this place to all friends. Pabi hosted us and made our experience enjoyable.

The food here is top notch - prices are fair and portions are filling. The waitress that helped us was so lovely and gave great recommendations, and the drinks list is cheap for the quality you get. Left extremely happy.

Food is really good but the staffs are quite rude, they kept screaming and yelling from the kitchen and arguing with each other while heaps of customers were annoyed. One of the guys in the other table actually mentioned it loudly and said please keep it down it’s getting too loud. Unprofessional behavior at a fine dining restaurant where food is not cheap either. The ladies should learn to keep it down or argue after work hours, they were screaming and discussing about the customers while the customers could heart it which is extremely poor behavior. As a food blogger, I’ve been to so many restaurants and infact do Uber eats from this restaurant weekly, the food is flawless. But this was the first time I visited in store and was super disappointed by the behavior and unprofessional yelling. Very loud atmosphere and talkative staff

One of the best Indian meals we have ever had. Any of the meat we have had has been melt to the touch tender. Breads are fluffy and delicious. All meals are plentiful and generous, never skimping on more expensive ingredients. Fragrant rice.
We have never eaten in, so I can’t comment on service on house.

Did not honour zomato gold rather he offered a 10% discount. Decided not to dine in and they counter offer 20%. Didn’t feel good about the whole ordeal, decided to have dinner elsewhere instead.

We came here from the cinemas for a late night feed. Camberwell Curry House is a mixture of Indian and Nepalese cuisine however leans more towards Indian. I had a mango lassi to start off with which was thick and had a hint of fragrant spice mixed in. Not surprisingly it does fill you up a bit so don't get it if you want more of the other good stuff.

We start off with a mixed meat platter straight from the tandoor which included chicken, lamb chop and kebab. Everything was tasty and succulent, the spices (we requested mild for everything) were subdued and the bed of onions frying on the bottom made a great pairing with the meat.

We also had curries accompanied with saffron rice and garlic naan, all of which were heaped. Firstly the naan was garlicky, toasty at the base and had a good chew. The butter chicken was rich and sweet whereas the palak paneer was creamy with nice chunks of milky paneer. We also shared their Everest pepper lamb which was some pulled lamb with various vegetable chunks, some pieces were a bit dry and would have benefited more with a higher heat level (we chose mild).

Overall a good feed, affordable, generous portions and tasty food. Their version of mild is pretty mild so I'd go medium if you want a bit of a kick.

Came here for an early dinner when the place was nearly empty. Turns out it was lucky I could walk in because the it was fully booked later. But despite the popularity, I wasn't very impressed. The service was alright but a bit disorganised. I appreciated the complimentary papadams, but they were super oily. The sauces they came with, however, were really nice.

My garlic naan was even more oily, so much so that it leaked oil all over the table through the basket and completely drenched the doilies is was sitting on. I tried to blot it away but there were still puddles of oil, which was really overkill. Even the saffron rice was a bit too oily.

On a positive note, I tried the palak paneer and eggplant masala and both were great, with a nice level of spice and well balanced flavour.

Polite staff and very welcoming. The taste of the food was good but the quantity was less with paneer. Neat and tidy place. Good place to try it once.

Friendly staff, food well presented and tasted well. I loved the Kadai curry and Grilled mushrooms as part of the platter. Will visit again.

Really good food, authentic Indian dishes. Many items on the menu to choose from. The ambient is well decorated and staff are friendly too. I had a second mango lassi, and my beef vandaloo is done perfectly. We left with a very full belly.

I went to this place this evening with my Asian flatmates and we loved the place. The food was delicious especially Lamb Tikka. Staff is polite and the service is pretty good. The girl staff from Chandigarh is quite sweet & charming. :)

The butter chicken we had here was pretty good, but unfortunately everything else was average. In particular the mixed meat entree we had was very bland.

Went here last night for a quick cuzza on a cold winters night. Brought a nice bottle of el vino as well. we ordered the momos (Nepalese dumpling) and then had butter chicken and some green spinach curry with some roti. Was seriously delicious food. Service was great as well. The music playing made me feel like I was in India too! El vino was flowing and it was a great night all round, cheers

Bunch of liars. Called up the restaurant after waiting for an extra 10 mins on top of the one hour I had to wait to receive the delivery. I was told that they will find out and call me back but after waiting for another 10 mins I rang again and they would not answer. I waited for about 2 hours and my order was still not delivered. Can you imagine if you had guests over and waiting for the food to arrive and it does not get delivered how embarrassing that would be. They simply do not care and are a bunch of liars.
Been here a few times, not the cheapest place, but the food is good, comes out pretty quick. Good idea to book in advance on weekends. Good naan

Ordered the butter chicken, coconut rice and spinach/cottage cheese curry to take away. They were all fantastic, especially the spinach/cottage cheese curry. Didn't eat in but the dining room is set up very nicely.

Been waiting 90 minutes for a food delivery. Their phone continues to ring out and out and goes to Messagebank. This is costing me money in calls. This restaurant ruined my Friday night. Avoid.

This food was so unappetising. The butter chicken had the worst consistency, it was like gravy. I have tried so many indian restaurants in melbourne and this failed. I would never go here again
FOOD TRIP
Camberwell Curry House doesn’t look like much from the outside, but once you step in, its a super elegant dining area. They serve up all the usual Indian dishes but also have a few Nepalese options to add some variety. Food is delicious and service is so friendly and helpful. Would recommend trying out.

It's a nice conversion after all ......

From Indian, then Japanese and back to Indian restaurant again with added Nepalese food here and there.
We did not try the former Indian restaurant, but we've tried the Japanese and it wasn't authentic, however this conversion has lots of promises.

Having said that, not an inviting shop front, once you are inside it's a different atmosphere; neat, clean and pleasant darker interior.

Tables are nicely set up with good crockery and big bulb wine glasses, just how I like it and it's BYO too. They are quite well stock with good stuff, good value for money alcohol should you forget to bring some.

Quite a pleasant service, got us waiting for the Menu and served later arriving patrons first, which is not okay, however on the food side, they are serving some fabolous food at the rate that they are charging, quite generous. For us, stand outs from the evening are; Himalayan chilly chicken, Lamb Korma, Samosa and those Pistachio Kulfi.

Nota bene; they've handled small catastrophe well, someone knocked a BYO red wine on the floor at the next table, can't tell who's fault (waitress or the patron), anyhow the Manager came to offer a bottle of their Red wine on the house, that's a nice touch. I hope they tipped them well.

This Indian Restaurant is Camberwell's best little secret.
It is easily the BEST Indian food for MILES AROUND!
Great food, good value and friendly staff. My concern is that if it doesn't get busier it may not survive and what a loss that would be!
The samosas are great, as is the Beef Vindaloo (the most tender beef curry we've had the pleasure of enjoying) Further favourites of ours are Butter Chicken, Kashmiri Naan and Aloo Ghobi (Potato and Cauliflower curry). The Aloo Ghobi isn't actually listed on the menu but do ask as we have found there has never been a problem having them make it for us.
Give it a try - I guarantee you wont regret it!

Had take away from here for my birthday then went out with friends for dinner recently.

The food is really nice, the service good, great location, we appreciated them letting a big group of us sit around for quite a while on a Friday night. It's BYO which is a plus for uni students. If you get takeaway the portions are much more generous, so you have been warned.

We went there for dinner after reading reviews and loved the food to the core. There only we decided to host our son's second birthday party there. Today was the party and we were not at all disappointed. Each and every guest in the part loved the food. All the items were well cooked and delicious. The staff was courteous and friendly which made the whole party really successfull. Thanks to Dan and the team for helping us organize a winderful party. It is a must for for Indian curry lovers.

In the first place, on the night we visited something had gone wrong and the meals took *ages* to arrive. They apologised for that at the end of the meal, but some warning before we ordered would have been nice.

Additionally, the waitress had absolutely *no idea* what "gluten free" meant.

It's been a while since we visited, so I'm struggling to recall what we had. That said, it barely matters - despite them all being different colours and meats, all three of our mains tasted about the same.

Yet another average Indian joint in Melbourne.

Excellent meal amongst friends. The food was all delicious. Curries spot on and the grilled tandoori plate was excellent. Only criticism was the garlic naan was a bit too garlicky but otherwise it's a great little find on Riversdale Road.

What a find. Lovely food. Great service. The medium curries we ordered for the table were just the right spice and their naan bread was well flavoured. If you feel like a curry definitely worth giving these guys a go.

Good curry, fast service.

Soft and succulent lamb in the vindaloo with a nice level of spice. Fresh hot nann breads.

Chicka masla was rich and a substantial serving size.

Will come back again.

Been here twice now..food is delicious and staff are brilliant. Give the tandoori mushrooms a whirl and the vindaloo...it is one of the best I have had in long time.

My family went here on a Friday night. The dining room was well-lit, very clean with beautiful table settings. We ordered samosas and a mixed grill for starters. The lamb and chicken on the mixed grill was the best we'd tasted ever. For entrees we ordered palak paneer, butter chicken, lamb chops and mushroom dahi. The butter chicken was extraordinary. We've had lots of butter chicken, but this had something more. The mushroom dahi was incredible as well - very well seasoned. My son's lamb chops were gone instantly. The palak paneer was good. We ordered regular naan that was so delicious we got an extra order for takeaway. Service was attentive, friendly, but not smothering.

A wonderful experience of delicious Indian food! We decided to try out this new Indian restaurant courtesy of Groupon, and had a great time! The restaurant has a nice and relaxed environment and the staff are really great - friendly, attentive and efficient.

For entree: we had the classic chicken tikka and samosas - the chicken was so tender and went perfectly with the mint sauce, and the samosas were light and crispy with a wonderful filling. We also had complimentary papadum (very nice!) though I found the mint sauce a bit strong.

For main: we shared butter chicken, chicken masala, wami ko lamb and saag wala beef with rice and plain naan. The butter chicken was delicious - a sweet and mild sauce that went well with the tender chicken. The chicken masala was surprisingly spicy - we ordered the mild version, and found it was the spiciest dish (even more than the medium wami ko lamb curry we ordered). Both the lamb and beef were cooked excellently, both were soft and broke apart easily with a fork. Each had a different flavour, which was very enjoyable and a great mix. The naan bread was another favourite - it was pillowy and tasty - great to soak up all the curry sauce.

For dessert: we tried the traditional dumplings (gulab) and the pistachio ice-cream. The dumplings were not bad, not super sweet and soft. The ice-cream was refreshing and tasty.

Overall, we had a really great experience - it was the little details that the staff put in that made the difference. The waitress was friendly, always ready to fill our water glasses to the brim (it happened a lot!). They changed the plates and cutlery between courses (and had heated plates for the mains!). It was just a really nice time, and we appreciated all the effort they put in! Delicious food, fantastic service: well worth visiting!

I first found out about Camberwell Curry House when I received a flyer of their menu in my mail box. After reading some positive reviews on Zomato I decided to check them out.

We got a complimentary papadum with two different types of sauces. The light green one is mint and yoghurt. This was my boyfriend's favourite. I preferred the second one which was also the waitress' favourite! She has good taste.

My boyfriend ordered a Vindaloo. Usually this is one of the hottest curries but still a favourite curry of mine. We have asked for a mild Vindaloo from other restaurants and every single time they have still been very hot. I was very surprised when Camberwell Curry House made a Vindaloo that wasn't too hot for the both of us!! Amazing work!

I had the Mushroom Dahi Masala. It was very tasty and I was happy with the amount of mushrooms provided.

We got lots of garlic naan! The naan servings were bigger than what I got at other restaurants.

I ordered the margarita. It was good but not a traditional margarita. It was a lot different from other margaritas I've had before.

The service was amazing. The staff were very friendly and chatty. I would definitely return.

So.... Had a few too many frothies of the amber persuasion and the next day started searching for the only thing that can fix my wounded soul, that being Butter Chicken with Naan Breads, no rice just give me the good stuff. I'm a big fan of Indian and this place is now right up there with my...

A great find in the midst of Camberwell! Upon a recommendation from a now revered source, I popped past for a dinner with friends! Can't stress enough the importance of trying the chilli chicken as it is somewhat a revelation!
Service was overall pretty great - will we back!

Went here for the 1st time today and absolutely loved the food. The chilli chicken is highly recommended and the aloo parata was one of the best we've had. Staff were friendly. Definitely will be back!

We ordered kashmiri pulao and what we got was coconut cream and grated coconut in the rice with dry fruits and nuts. When I read the menu, kashmiri pulao did not mention coconut cream or grated coconut. There was another dish in the menu named "Coconut Rice" which mentioned grated Coconut and Coconut cream in the description. But the chef decided to give us the rice thinking we wouldnt react. I asked him if he got confused as they have coconut rice in their menu & he was trying to find a way out of it. In the end he admitted they did a mistake but the worst part is, eventhough they knew they made a mistake, they decided to serve the dish. This is not right way to deal with customers. I would tell people not to try this place as No one will have a clue what they must be adding in their food to save some money. They might even serve food that might have been dropped in the kitchen floor to customers.

Fresh taste!! Being a local in Camberwell, we have tried most of the food joints. Camberwell curry house brings a fresh taste to all the dishes. We had a good variety for my vegetarian husband. Sunday South Indian buffets are not to be missed.. Service is quick & excellent.. We are already a regular at this wonderful Indian restaurant.. Keep it up guys..

Yummy!! Always love trying new places in Camberwell, and as we came in we discovered this has only been open for two days! The food was great, had a Himalayan chilli chicken and a beef korma to share. Rice was fluffy and beef was perfectly falling apart. Garlic naan smelt amazing and tasted good too!! Service was sweet and attentive and the great night was topped off with a free dessert sample. Will be back for sure! So many dishes we can't wait to try! Thanks
