Review Sofia Pizza Restaurant - Camberwell

Food here has always been amazing! Their portion is always so huge, you are bound to take away their food. Service even at the busiest of times are flawless, with waiters zooming around here and there but still paying attention to the customers needs. Huge place to accommodate large families to cozy spots for a quick couples meal. Would highly recommend, wont go wrong!

One of our favourite places for group dinners. Delicious food. Very generous portions. Good selection. Camberwell can get very busy though and finding parking is sometimes tricky. Burwood is the better option but far for us.

What's there not to like? The serving and portion sizes are humongous and generous, taste lovely and service professional and friendly. I ordered Sofia Special pizza which comes with every available topping except onions, anchovies and pineapple. Lasagna was delicious and pasta was good. There seems to be seating for like 1000+ people. Actually, I might be completely wrong and they may have double capacity. Food price is fair. Will be back!

This is one of our favorites in Melbourne. It might not look fancy but you can feel the warmth of the environment, be treated very friendly and be served the best dish. Not our furst time and definitely not last. Try it either lunch or dinner time and enjoy your time there.

This place is a bit of an institution, well known for its super generous serves at budget prices. The portion sizes are still eye poppingly large and the service is still friendly, but my Spaghetti Marinara was really bland and I'd come here ravenous without breakfast. Lots of prawns and scallops on top but no other seafood visible below the hill of pasta. Maybe I'm spoilt by the competitive gastronomic scene in Melbourne, but today's experience doesn't gel with my memories of delicious meals in past visits.

Sofia is known for huge portions and a family friendly price across the menu. Unfortunately, unless the food is worth eating until you've had you're fill, there's simply no point in having piles of leftovers to take home. The parmi was gigantic, drowning in cheap cheddar cheese and tasteless tomato puree. Chips were underdone and, due to being mostly buried beneath the chicken, were soggy and not ideal eating. Partner had Spaghetti Marinara which was also poor. The pasta had been broken in cooking and couldn't be wrapped on the fork as it was all too short, making it messy to eat. Sauce was watery. On the plus side there were stacks of prawns and scallops. We both left plenty on the table without any interest in taking the leftovers with us. The service was fine and the price was fair. But we won't be back to this outlet.

Incredibly fast service. Always the same taste and cheap price. The amount of food is really generous. It is not a very luxurious taste, but you can enjoy a generous amount and taste at this price.

Went to Sofia for the first time today. Highly recommended for students living in low budget. Portion size of the large plate pasta was really good but the taste was extremely ordinary. I also tried the pizza. There was no pizza sauce in the base of the pizza and it was dry.

Love sofia my friends and I shared very good time in Sofia. love the mushrooms cream pasta, and salad

I ordered a take away pizza, garlic bread and dessert from this business recently. After opening the container for the dessert and consuming part of the dessert, I noticed part of the plastic container's lid was chipped off (see photos below). I couldn't find the broken off piece of plastic on my table or in the bottom of the container, so It most likely got into my food and was consumed. That made me feel sick. I'd guess swallowing sharp, jagidy plastic isn't good for you?? But I may never know. Obviously this business uses cheap and nasty plastic containers which can easily result in broken pieces of plastic ending up in your food. I immediately emailed this business to report the incident incl: photos, but they didn't even bother responding. That sais a lot about the attitude of the owners and the concern (or lack thereof) they have for their food preparation and the health of their customers. Based on this experience, I will NOT be coming back!<br/>

Sofia’s from the late 80’s is not the same place it was. It’s ok - but seems to be a relic, and a tired one at that. The throngs of nouveau riche Chinese flock it now, which I’m sure is good for business. The cleanliness of the tables, toilets and even cutlery is a smidgeon below par, I’m sorry to say. But, I’m happy to say the coffee is still awesome

HUGE servings. These are large pizza's and we only finished half. Luckily you can take home pizza/ pasta. This place is more about size than quality. Note, the Special (Supreme) includes Prawns. It's very busy, we dealt with about 5 different staff and they all seemed fine. A waiter tried to rush the table next us, which they clearly didn't appreciate.

Despite Sofia's bad reviews I thought we would give this restaurant the benefit of the doubt, and give it a try with my friends. All I have to say is WOW, this place has literally the WORST customer service I have received from a restaurant. As we sat down, the "gentleman" who was serving us walked away to grab some water, when he placed it on the table, he aggressively pushed my hands out of the way pushing my phone, putting the cups in directly front of me, he then asked "do you want a drink" in which we said no, we will be ready in 5. He walked away for literally 30 seconds came back to our table, didn't say a word, stared at us for 10 seconds and said "what do you want to order", my friend advised him we weren't ready, and to please come back in 5 minutes, he rolled his eyes and said "whilst I'm here, order your drink" in which we said AGAIN, we are not ready yet. I do believe that this had made him feel uncomfortable as he aggressively stared at us for a while and walked away??We were all gobsmacked, it was a very intimidating awkward experience. We decided to not eat there in the end.  What ever you do, if your looking for a place to take your friends and family please consider your expectations on how you would like your experience to be. Based on other reviews, this seems to be a norm, and little to no change has happened.

The pizza and pasta is average. But the main dishes are quite good. The fish of the day was delicious. Gelato on a cone and a goody bag for the kids is alsways a nice touch. My kids love it every time.

The food here is massive, and you’re going to get your moneys worth. However the flavour is not there, the pasta is so big it has lost most of the flavour and we got a salad and legit a salad Leaf was bigger than my head! However if you want a quick and easy meal with no fuss this is an okay place to go. Food is simple.<br/>

I went here with two of my friends before a Fleetwood mac concert and omg we sooo wish we didn’t.First up the waiter kept asking if we were ready to order and we had literally just sat down and were still looking then we ordered I ordered a chicken Parma with veggies OMG it was sooo big and disgusting? And given a butter knife to cut it with I asked the waitress for a steak knife and she rolled her eyes then when we left he wouldn’t show us the bill as we were trying to work our what we spent first he came up with a amount of $82 but we had canceled our coffees so he said ok ok such a rude man and changed the bill to $80 which I question him about it then he got frustrated at us because we wanted to see the bill omg it added up to $75 so why is he charging us more and twice making the mistake absolutely disgusting service ,food only one girl there was pleasant our food was just dumped on the table not even in a nice way I highly suggest people go somewhere 🤮

Lovely family Italian restaurant. Serves great, huge portion of pizza, pasta and its desserts are s must to try. For a reasonable price, you can feed a family or friends. Will be trying out more of its desserts. Parking easy as it is in front of the train station.
JKGasMan
Ordered the Spaghetti Marinara, Quattro Gusti and Affogato here. Food came quickly and was plentiful. What brought the ratings down was the rude manager who wasn't very helpful when I tried to query the bill.
Sunny Days Melbourne
We thought we would come back here to see how things were going as we were in the area. Unfortunately little has changed from our last visit. (See my previous review below) <br/><br/>Servings remain large but the quality of the food remains low. The pizza that we ordered was mediocre. The pastas filled us up but still left us feeling empty. Service was ordinary. <br/><br/>Previously:<br/><br/>We walked out of here thinking "What has happened to this place?"<br/>We have been coming here over the years for solid, reliable pastas and pizzas but it looks like those days are over. <br/>The service was worryingly overfamiliar. The vegetarian lasagne was almost inedible. The same went for the spinach fettuccine- it was over cooked and tasteless. Nobody wants gluggy pasta!<br/>As usual, the chips became the highlight of the meal. <br/>I miss the old Sofia's.........

I booked a table for Sofias last Thursday, April 14th and I was shocked and disappointed when I arrived and found people living in the building. In fact, it wasn&#039;t even a restaurant! I hate 2022, all my restaurants keep turning into apartment complexes.

Hadn't been to Sofia's in a very long time. The last time we went to Sofia's was before the Balwyn shop had closed down. Since we were near Sofia, we thought yeah why not go in.<br/>I think it will be the last time we will go.<br/>The quality of the food has changed. Pizzas are slightly to dry and thin and the spaghetti carbonara was to sweet and creamy.<br/>Food doesn't have to be perfect but when you get your plate thrown onto your table then no matter how good the food tastes it changes my mood to eat there. Its like there not happy to be there. Really bad service.<br/>We didn't even get a smile even when we were paying. The only person that was really friendly was the pizza guy which he was always friendly even when he was at Balwyn. My brother even made a comment out loud that "at least there was one happy person there"<br/>

I was a disappointed with my takeaway.. I ordered a seafood platter which comes with either hot chips or steamed vegs.. and a couple of large pizzas.. Well I was given only the seafood and the salad drenched in salad dressing.. the most disappointing part was that although the box of chips was there with the seafood platter is was not given to me. Not that the fish was freshly done ... maybe only the calamari,,, so take aways please check your items...  very very disapointed...
Liz
Love their food. LOVE the portions. Can never find a table their though so we just order for pick up. Would be so much better if there were more parking but hey, that’s Camberwell.

Came here for lunch. Ordered the seafood pasta and smoked salmon pizza. Taste is great with generous serving with reasonable price. Also ordered the apple crumble with ice cream. It's was very lovely dessert. Worth to order.
Pl
1 star well deserved. There are so many other nice restaurants nearby to get proper food. Big portion of food with no taste. You get what you pay for.
George Stagias
Most disgusting food and service in Melbourne. Bland, dry, pathetic embarrassing food with even more pathetic staff members. Take a long hard look at yourself. Wish there was a 0 rating. Gross!!
Atipat
This is the first time to order calamari deep fry. It is under my expectation. It is chewy and the taste is no seasoning. Moreover the price is not worth.
Steven Gu
Sofia in Camberwell. It used to be my favourite Italian restaurant in Melbourne and they do serve good fritto misto seafood platter but now seems it is more expensive and less quality now.
Ctra8
Good food, been here for more than 10 years, always have the same thing and it’s never disappointing. Portion is very very large so always bring the family when visiting Sofia’s. love the pasta and the fried calamari.
Stephanie Limcorn
I went to the restaurant because of some friends' recommendation, despite of seeing some of the disappointing reviews online. At first I felt a little hesitant after all the comments I've seen, however, we still ended up going there for an early dinner. It turned out that the food is pretty decent and they have a very generous amount for each dish. The service was also very good, everyone is very friendly and welcoming. It is definitely a nice place to try if you are looking for a budget-friendly family restaurant.<br/><br/>We ordered the large Spaghetti Sofia, Fritto Misto (seafood platter), Pollo Valentino and the gelato for dessert. Everything was satisfactory, however what surprised us the most was how generous the seafood serving was for the pasta and platter at their given price and also that they have 8 or 9 different flavours of gelato piled on top of each other for each serving.<br/><br/>Will definitely go there again.<br/><br/>Recommended: Fritto Misto (very good for sharing) & Gelato (a good way to end the lovely meal)

The portion is too much. We ordered three dishes for seven people. Good service and food is really delicious. It must be underestimated. It deserve high rate.
Erinski
Probably the worst restaurant I’ve ever been to. I watched an employee drop a pizza on the ground and then put it back into a take away box and give back to a customer.
Oswaldo
Wow. This place has gone downhill. I have been coming here since 1998 but less frequently in the last 6 years. Service is good and there is always there to assist. The food is not what it used to be. Wife had the scotch fillet with vegetables. She asked for well done as she is pregnant. The steak came out in 5 minutes. Well done steak takes longer than that. Steak wasnt cooked correctly and veggies were hard. I hard the tortellini pollo funghi and that too was a fail. Over cooked and way passed “al dente”. In the past the pasta was of a green and creamy colour but now uts orange. Size is huge for a small serving but so not worth a cent. The pasta to me was just slops. After 20 years coming here, it’s time to move on. Quantity yes, quality is a big NO.

A Camberwell institution in a grand corner location. Service is excellent, the staff are always polite and treat everyone with respect. Have been coming here for years but on my latest visit this week I found the food quality was not what is to be expected. I ordered a spaghetti carbonara which the portion was great for a entree however the bacon was not crispy and the pieces were not great quality and large pieces. The amount on the plate of poor quality bacon was inedible. The cream sauce was very good as it always has been.<br/><br/>The pizzas ordered were good , but I am a big fan of Sofias pasta carbonara and want the quality back please.<br/>I hope it will be improved so on my return visit I can give the rating this great place deserves. See you soon with high hopes of what brings the crowds in.
Leila
The portions were heavy and HUGE. Everyone I went with had a hard time finishing even half of their meal, and we had to pack everything up in the end. The flavors were okay I guess, a bit generic, but if you’re super hungry and looking for a good-for-value meal, this is it.
Oodreiilittlepotato
We are having half hawaiian pizza and half tandoori pizza + pasta mista with a choice of spaghetti bolognese, spaghetti sofia and ravioli napoletana + gelato for 5 people. And we could not finish it😂 we are so full for the rest of the day. I personally like the spaghetti sofia and the hawaiian pizza for the main and lime and chocolate for the gelato.<br/><br/>Fritto misto? Taste just okay. Deep fried fish, calamari, shrimp and scallop.<br/><br/>Spaghetti carbonara. Taste good :) not too overwhelming or to heavy from the cream! :)
Viranki Gunasekera
10/10 great service by the staff, They were very friendly and assisted us in the best manner possible. However the food was of average quality even though they were very large portions.
Alison
Really disappointed and will definitely not be back - we were given ridiculously big serves of food but it tasted awful so you couldn’t finish half left alone all of it.. I felt sick for 3 days after eating here, avoid if you can or just stick to Pizza
Scrumptious GG
Came here for lunch as family of four, we only order meat lover pizza, tortellini carbonara and spaghetti bolognaise, all in large size. <br/>The pizza had a good dough and plenty of meat, and spaghetti bolognaise was al dente and well sauced, but the tortellini carbonara was overcooked. The carbonara sauce tasted alright, but the tortellini was too soft and mushy, some of the filling actually separated from the pasta, but it was still edible though. <br/>Their portion size was huge and the price was very reasonable. <br/>Service was very quick and staff were friendly. <br/><br/>

We've been here twice and I've regretted it both times. The portion sizes may be huge, but the actual food is rubbish. Low quality. Not tasty. Not worth it. Don't bother.
Alijargalb
Great place for going with a bunch of people due to portions are very big and price is amazing. But food standard is not very authentic and it just very average
Mary D
Huge amount of foods!!<br/>Surprised by big dishes!!<br/>For experience, this is a good place!!:)<br/>But for tasting foods, I don’t recommend.<br/>Pizza was not bad, but pasta was too soft...
Sienna
Sofia’s is great for big functions and is very kid friendly. I’ve been going there for years and love the pizza and pasta!! The servings are big as everyone else says but as long as you know what to order you could finish everything. I recommend the gelati for dessert the only thing that you have to remember is that the gelati is HUGE!!! It’s about 30cm y’all off the ground and you need lots of people to finish it! Overall I love Sofia’s and I love the people who work there!!

If you’re looking for a very casual, spacious Italian restaurant and large portion dishes at low prices, it’s hard to look past Sofia’s Restaurant in Camberwell (857 Burke Road, Camberwell). Pictured is the Spaghetti Marinara (with seafood, tomato and parsley). It is the small size at $14.50 although you may

I don't understand why people rate it very bad. For me the foods are pretty delicious. The combined spaghettis are delightful. Hope people will realise this
Melody Bibo
The food was good, but terrible service when we paid the bill. The cashier guy was rude to a young lady who worked there and was rude to us by smashing our takeaway food on the table rather than giving us in hands.
Jocelyn
Very family friendly ambient and area. Service is quite and food is of good standard. Many families there and price is decent. Portions size are very big and small size pasta can be shared by 2 people.

Every 5 years or so I find my self at a place like this, The kind of place where there may be 60 items on the menu and nothing has changed in 20 or more years. The food is revolting. I'm please to confirm my grandma in aged care receives better food. Its like they have a few trays of veg cooked off in the bain marie, any broccoli underneath crushed and over cooked presented on your plate like baby food, some dried up beetroot and old carrot with the white crusty bits visible. If you order a steak It may first look like it has been run over by a truck to pancake consistency before hitting your plate- but not before a giant ladle of fake -what ever flavor sauce-. It's been a while since I ate it and I never got sick, thus the .5 star increase in rating. Many of the staff are welcoming and friendly too.
Emily
$12 for the pasta which by the way was huge! Wouldn't come here on my own because the portions are way too big. The service was very fast and very friendly with a lovely ambiance. Not the best carbonara pasta but definitely worth the price. All in all i would recommend it for an affordable meal with generous portions. Unfortunately taste wise; the pasta was average--abit heavy on the cream
Caroline Rebaque
Came for a casual 40th birthday dinner with a group of 10 people and could not fault the service. Super friendly, lots of smiles and when they found out it was a birthday dinner they gave is a free bottle of wine.<br/>The food was tasty, portions were generous and everything arrived fast. The kids even got a treat bag. <br/>Best service I've had in years.
Rachael
Wouldn’t come here by myself, the portion sizes are huge. Always found this place to be a swing and a miss at times. Wait staff can be a bit rude and abrasive depending on the person. Personal favourites include the pasta mista was the spaghetti marinara and avocado pasta. The chilli prawns were nice but not really worth ordering again. Pizza was nice, crispy crust but a little burnt on the top-very nice. Dessert had two options of gelato and cheese cakes- the cookies and cream was very nice and thick. Huge servings of everything.
Munching Pandas
Rumor said its the largest plate you can have in italian restaurant in melb with cheaper price. Ive been here a few times, and here are my reviews<br/><br/>Panda🐼🐼🐼:<br/>First of all, the space in this restaurant is lit. Wtf its bigger than a proper dimsum restaurant. One of the most spacious restaurant<br/><br/>Portion.. uhmm how do i put it. Its like your 2 days meal put together in one plate<br/>Get the pastamisto for two, and half-half pizza, and the gelato!<br/><br/>Price (yeah biciss) its cheap !<br/><br/>Service was average and quite quick<br/><br/>Pandon’t ❌❌❌:<br/>Taste was too mild for italian cuisine<br/>Inconsistent and deteriorating taste quality overtime (some of the pastas)<br/><br/><br/>
Pinky Chung
Really love this restaurant! Always go there with my family and friends. They served large size meal with affordable price and the taste was really good too! They gave great attention to customers. There was an little incident when we went to the restaurant today but the manager and waiter gave us sincerely apologise. We will come bk again!
Rebecca Knapp
Worst meal in a long time. I had the Veal alla Sofia - tough meat, swimming in a tomato and wine sauce that tasted of alcohol which had not been cooked off. Mushy boiled vegetables. Husband had the tortellini which was overcooked and claggy. Utterly unappealing both in appearance and taste. Quantities were huge but unfortunately did not make up for the poor quality.
Melanie
Huge servings, come here if you want value for money in terms of quantity. Food very ordinary, very dated interiors, staff so so. Have been twice and wouldn't go out of my way to return.
Ferry Gondo
Used to visit here and order Pastas. I remember used to share the triple pasted in one big dish with my friend. The spinach spaghetti, carbonara and bolognese in one plate. Classic family Italian eatery. The place is so big and spacious, very suitable for groups.
Jenn
Friendly + food comes fast. <br/><br/>I really liked the Caesar salad & mushroom sauce steak + mashed potatoes. Spicy prawns were nice too. However, personally I did not like the spaghetti very much - a bit bland and hard. <br/><br/>Mountain sized ice cream with lots of flavours to pick from! Mint chocolate chip + rum raisin very nice.
Akshata Gupta
Went here for my birthday mid-September with 7 other people. The food is amazing with huge portions. It was a blessing because I was on a tight budget but managed to buy dinner for 8 people. The staff is welcoming and overall it was a good experience.
Rizka Natasya
I’m not even joking but I love this restaurant so much that they have a special little place in my heart LOL. I know it sounds exaggerating but their food is simply that comforting and the price is more than worth it as the portion is always bigger than you think it will be. Love you, Sofia’s Restaurant! Hahaha
Estée Ng
Big portions!!! Ordered fried calamari for entrees and choked on it so bad because the skin stringy thing of the squid was not removed properly, so I don't know how safe it is for little kids to eat it. Spaghetti Bolognaise was average. Place looks old and supposed to be cozy and nice but did not feel comfortable eating inside with the design and how the place was set up. But stars to the cheap price and big portions. It would be better to go with 3 or more group of people to have a full and cheap meal.
Vaibhav Kotecha
A nice fine dine italian restaurant. Have really nice pizzas, the service is quick and with BYO the place is perfect for italian meal.......
Danielle Nguyen
We came here because I heard that the food was decent and value for money. Can confirm that it's true, the serving size is large and the service was good.
Split The Bill
We ordered a few pizzas for a work function from here. Some of us remember the good quality and reasonable prices as we have had pizza from here ages ago. The pizzas today were just ok. The toppings were good so was the tomato sauce base, however, the dough was dry and chewy. The price is resonable however, I probably won't order pizza from here again
Claudius Pseudonymus
BEWARE: You pay at the counter. You do NOT get an itemised bill. They just repeat what you had, add it on their tally and tell you how much the total bill is.<br/><br/>We were OVERCHARGED by $10 (probably he added in a tip for himself) and when we questioned it, the OWNER-BOSS got unfriendly and aggressive. When we persisted he finally returned our $10 with extremely bad humour as if we were extorting HIM....!! Bloody Cheek....!!<br/><br/>So, do NOT just accept their total. ALWAYS ask for an itemised bill or add the cost from the menu on your phone BEFORE paying at the counter.
Sujay Borde
One thing that comes to mind about this place is HUGE quantity. <br/>Food is good, lot of variety as well.<br/>Service is nice.<br/>Would definitely recommend this place.
Richard O'Grady
Well done team. Service was amazing, food was great, atmosphere, perfect. Will be back again and again... recommend the salmon pizza.. so good..
Kathreen Tjhai
The old guy waitress was really rude. <br/>......................................................................................................
Good Food Good Mood
My mum and I were booked in for a facial across the road and decided to have a casual lunch at Sofia's prior to our treatment (Anumi spa, quite relaxing). The menu here appears to be more extensive then the Frankston chain which I visited recently but still quite reasonable price wise. I had the fettuccine avocado sans mushrooms which was delicious. This is a very casual style restaurant with a pleasant atmosphere. It's an absolutely massive multi level space and the exposed brick gives it a nice homely feeling. Cheap and cheerful
Laine Lee
Above average score i gave them. <br/>Friendly staff, fast and huge servings, and finally value for money 💰! 😁<br/>Food wise are always consistent in quality and quantity! <br/>And it is conveniently located near tram stop and train station!
Jason Landon Zhou
Had dinner with my friend tonight. The portion of the food was huge but the quality was average. The waiters and waitress who work there were nice in general but the guy who worked at the cashier (probably the owner) was absolutely arrogant and rude. Never have I had an awful customer service in hospitality. Would not recommend the restaurant to my friends.
Sheera Brown
If you like Italian and Mediterranean then this is a well known place to go. Loved the pizza, pasta and the fish/catch of the day meal (which is very huge!). All orders are humungous and for family sharing! <br/>My friends and I shared a mountain of various flavoured gelato for dessert which we could not almost finish! Ambiance is homey and the price is not heavy in the pockets. Pics I have were mostly of me and my friends enjoying the food and which will not pass muster for zomato standards but I am posting some what the heck!
Lebaba
Not great food. This place is packed because the portion sizes are massive, and meals are inexpensive. But you get what you pay for, if you pay $16 for a huge lasagna that can feed 3 people then it's not gonna be a great lasagna. No bechamel sauce, no cheese. Just layers of bland meat sauce and pasta sheets that were undercooked in some places. It's not inedible, but not the quality I would expect from any restaurant. Wouldn't come back even for the giant portion sizes.
Jennitals
LIT⭐️!: Portion size!!! Really cheap Italian food to have with friends. Add chilli and Parmesan to your liking. Even the desserts were massive- so much icecream! 😍<br/><br/>NOT SO LIT: the cake is unnecessarily hard.
Streaky Eats
Ordered a small pasta, came a small pasta, got billed a large, raised it to the owner/manager and got told it was a large when clearly it wasn't. Being so stubborn and an ego as huge as his imaginary large pasta, the owner/manager kept insisting that it was a large and became defensive and adamant, with that kind attitude it's no surprise that the restaurant capacity was underutilized.<br/><br/>I'm still in disbelief that you would rather wrongfully overcharge your customer than to encourage patronage over an amount so insignificant to you.<br/><br/>I hope no other customer should ever need to deal with this hostile, unprofessional, and rude treatment.
Viviana
The worst owner ever with the worst customer service I had ever seen. <br/>Me and my friends are their regular customers and this evening we went there for quick dinner, one of my friends ordered a small pasta and the owner (manager) charged us for a big one. Then, we was wondering if he did mistake and he was very rude with us. NEVER COME BACK AGAIN!!!!
Yang Chiachia
My family love here! Fresh seafood in our marinara pizza and Sofia special pasta! I have never seen my children have eaten that much! The service was great as well.
Mirana
Sofia's is one of those restaurants that you go to if your just hungry and want okay tasting Italian food with great service! There service has always been top notch..no denying. I enjoyed there breast of grilled chick with mushroom sauce but just can't get over how oddly big their chicken is! <br/>Always packed, esp after 6pm but still able to fit you in because there so big. They serve nearly all there dishes with steamed veggies, so maybe try asking for fresh salad. And obviously all meals are huge. Their dessert selection is also varied which I love, feel like having all the cakes! Will be happy to go again and have different meals.
Food Coma Survivor
This place has quantity>quality. The staff weren't friendly, the ambience was dark and smelled like grease. The table and the salt and paper shakers were dusty.
Love At First Bite
Find us on instagram: loveatfirstbite_aus<br/><br/>A great family restaurant. The sizes are huge and will fill you up! Their gelato is also awesome to share! We ordered their pizzas and pastas and loved the ricotta pasta and the prawn spaghetti.
Niky Caravante
I'm italian and I'm sure this is not italian restaurant, if you open one restaurant as this in italy after one week have to close. the pizza is really commercial like domino's pizza, inside the restaurant there are the pictures of Naples but in Naples the pizza is real and amazing non there. the pasta is full of crem and a lot of kind of pasta have name of italian pasta but are bullshit. also the person at the cashier was really impolite no smile, no one said thanks. they are absolutely not italians

(Monday 22/5/2017)<br/><br/>Affordable prices and big portions. Two things that we loved to hear when it comes to food.<br/><br/>Was recommended by a few friends to give this place a try.<br/>We ordered the Spaghetti Carbonara and the Marina Supreme Pizza, both small. We didn’t realise the portions were big and had to recheck the price. <br/><br/>Overall, the foods were great. My partner loved the pizza because of the anchovies that gives a little kick in the palate. For me, the dough of the pizza felt undercooked but still enjoyable anyhow. The spaghetti and the sauce were cooked nicely, nothing to fancy but gives the simplicity of familiarity. <br/><br/>Service were alright. Some were friendly and some were moody. Overall, nice place to hang out with friends and family, even for functions as well.

The quantity to value for money is absolutely outstanding here, with plates of pasta that look like mountains(even the entree size is really more than enough to eat).I have found after coming here that the quality for value for money is just okay. There are better quality Italian restaurants out there and I imagine that this place is always packed due to the enormous servings that Sofia's serve for reasonable prices.I always thought that the quality was/is adequately just O.K..just passes.
Taeyeon's Hamster
It's been a while but good to be back for cheap eats with volume. Quality this round was good. No burnt fried food. We had the seafood salad, sofia pizza (liked the thin crunchy crust), fritto misto platter, spaghetti marinara and avocado fettuccine. Enjoyable night with the family
Linda
Quantity doesn't mean quality. We're not gourmet diners but the food we were served at Sofia's was inedible. The calamari and salad dishes we ordered were bland, chewy and had probably been in storage for awhile. When we complained the waiter asked us if we wanted something else but we didn't want to risk it. We ended up leaving for a real meal at Chadstone food court. Don't waste your time or money here.

Delicious Italian food and pasta! Great value for money too! Must Try the spaghetti Sofia. Great place for a group of friends or family to have an enjoyable night out

One of my personal favorites, good hearty meals. <br/>Always busy for a reason. Food comes out really quickly which for me is a huge bonus. Kids always get small presents.

Wouldn't want to give more than 3 as the food is average, and the service is below average. The portions are great though. <br/>The restaurant is more like McDonald's of Italian food. Very fast service but average quality food.

Worst lasagne ive ever had.... couldn't finish even half.... environment is so noisy... in all worst lasagne + noisy place = never come back again!

Terrible quality food. Rude staff, especially the manager. We had a group of 19. We specifically asked if it was OK to do a split bill at the start, but when we went to pay were told "sorry, that's too hard and too often people walk away with unpaid portions of their bill..." I cannot fathom how this place is packed. The gnocchi was gluggy and overcooked. Pizza bases were quite ordinary and they lost parts of our order then tried to make out it was our fault for ordering entrees as mains. Will never ever come back here again.

We ordered pasta mista and garlic pizza. The pasta was revolting and the portion was stupidly huge, we (2 adults) barely ate a quarter of it. The meat in the spaghetti bolognese was a weird brown colour, like it had been sitting out in the air, it was the worse I've ever had. The chicken in the pollo tortellini had the strangest texture, like it was very processed; No grain to the meat. <br/>Don't recommend here and will never go back.

Quantities are brutal (a "small" pasta is too much for me and I'm a really big eater), but quality is not at all a priority. Not real Italian food either. You're better off at any of the (also not proper Italian, cover-it-all-with-cream-and-garlic type) average "Italian" joints on Lygon Street. I keep being forced to come here as the people at the office seem to love their "value for money". Next time I'll just be the rude guy and decline the invite. I've tried several things and it's always been a terrible disappointment. HOWEVER (this tip may save your live!), if you are ever forced to come here as I am, the pizzas are edible. Just stay away from the "fancy stuff" steaks and the like. Pastas? At your own risk. If you don't know diddly squat about Italian food, then all the cream and garlic -and the massive pile of food they'll put in front of you- may be to your liking. Don't say we didn't warn you though.

Had two pizzas here last week, a The Lot and the Mexican. however both didn't have much taste at all despite adding chilli and Parmesan cheese and salt. This is not the place I remember it to be :(

Friendly staff, welcoming atmosphere.<br/>Meals are generous sized and quite cheap. Have eaten here for years and can't go wrong when you're hungry! Always have some to take home. Love the Chicken and Mushroom Risotto, and has gluten free options which is great. <br/>If you love icecream, you've got to get the gelati the size of your head! <br/>Great for sharing.

The portion here is amazing, we ordered 2 sharing platters and one cake, but still take away 2 boxes (we had 4 people). The pasta is average, breadcrumb is very fresh in the fried seafood platter, the chocolate cake is certainly a highlight. Think about the price it's a good place for sharing with a big crowd.

One word - MASSIVE! Substantial portions of food served here at Sofia's, recommended to come in groups if you want to try more in the menu. We had the carbonara, avocado fett and pesto pasta for $35! Had the large mushroom pizza and 5 of us only ate about less than $10 each. If you are not any gourmet fan, this will suit your pallete.

Sofia Restaurant offers a relaxed and casual dining experience with plenty of food options ideal for families and larger groups. They are easily located on the corner of Burke Road and Mayston Street.<br/><br/> As there are a few different brick structures surrounding the restaurant, it appears that they’ve taken over a couple of shops while expanding their business. <br/><br/>The interior is huge with a few different dining areas, as expected from the multiple expansions. It looks like they also have a section upstairs, but I didn’t have a look. The website says they cater for group functions up to 1200 people so that could be up there.<br/><br/>You definitely get what you pay for at Sofia. They are generous in quantity rather than quality, but thats not saying the quality isn’t any good. The dishes are simple and almost like comfort food, which is great for sharing between large groups. For the smaller diners and couples, expect to have quite a bit leftover.<br/><br/>Check out the review of Sofia's Restaurant in the blog post below.

Sofia's is the place to go for a good dose of carbs. Massive servings - always order a small! Food is not the best quality, but for the price, it works

Huge servings and beautiful waitress. Shout out to the beautiful blonde chick with the blue towel. I hope you enjoyed your Christmas present.

The serving was really huge! And really cheap as well! I really loved the mushroom risotto. :) And the gelato is good as well. If you want to have a hearty meal with friends and family, Sofia is the place to go!

Service was nice! This place was popular for huge amount of food. Didn't disappoint us, we were super full and couldnt finish them. Tasted ok, not too bad.

Positive only for the hospitality of the people running the place.<br/>Portion sizes are huge so excellent value for money.<br/>Ordered a veal and though was a bit over cooked but was good to eat.<br/>The seafood sphaggeti was pretty bland and that put us off.<br/>Will go next only to try out the dessert.

Sofia is a family casual restaurant where it is spacious and have something for everyone...pizza, pasta, dessert...etc walking in Sofia gives a sense of family warmth.<br/><br/>Pizza is pretty decent and pasta is always overlooked but full flavour. Portion is always generous and service is welcoming & homely. <br/><br/>This is a place for big group gathering and not for food critic/connoisseur. Decent quality food, cheap eat, warm & happy environment, big space.

What an absolute disgrace! <br/><br/>How can this restaurant consider itself as authentic Italian when it's nothing shy of poor quality, taste lacking and down right garbage served on a plate!?<br/><br/>Biggest mistake eating at this restaurant and I will never step foot here again!<br/><br/>I ordered tortellini pollo funghi. My meal was an absolute disaster - and quite frankly what I was served looked like someone had gone through the garbage and slapped together left overs and then vomited on top!<br/><br/>I don't know how anyone could enjoy anything that is served here - really is the definition of cheap and nasty!

Great family restaurant with generous and friendly wait staff who will always have a chat with you. Good Italian food in HUGE portions - luckily they let you take home your leftovers! The takeaway portions are equally as gigantic and as cheap as you will find anywhere - $10 for a lasagne which is more than enough for two people is pretty good value I think! Definitely a good place for a tasty cheap eat.
