Review Deco - Camberwell

I often buy takeaway pizzas from Deco cafeand eat there once a month. The customer service is excellent and the pizzas are the best I have eaten. The garlic bread is yummylicious. Callum is always helpful and the owner Steve makes all customers feel welcome and chats with all of us. The prices of a pizza, pasta, garlic bread etc at Deco are very reasonable for the quality and quantity we get

I had a Chicken Parma a few weeks ago, which I was happy with. It was cooked well and came out without ham, as I requested. The outdoor seating is a bit limited though.

I ordered mushroom pizza and Gnocchi (During Lockdown). Just loved it. So delicious and not greasy or oily at all, unlike some other restaurants. Can't wait for the restrictions to be lifted, so I can go there with friends and family.

Highly recommend! Fabulous afternoon late lunch in the sun after going to the Rivoli cinemas. Great outdoor set-up. Attentive and friendly service. We thought the Entree calamari was a winner, but then came mains! Pizza's state 12 inch but are clearly a bit bigger (so we were happy with getting more value than we expected!) and the eye fillet medallions were amazing. Mushroom sauce was decedant, but not heavy so walked out exteremely happy! Thank you Deco! We'll be back!

Lamb shoulder extremely dry, tzatziki sauce needed flavour, no fresh salad, pretty average. Nice drinks though

The food is fairly priced and I found the serving size perfect. The staff were verry friendly and the garlic bread is the best I have ever had.

FOOD: 3.5/5 Miso glazed salmon (on soba noodles with edamame). The noodles and edamame were well prepared, not too chewy or watery as soba noodles often can be. My small gripe would be that the miso glaze is very strong - as a result, the salmon portions tasted much saltier than a standard Japanese dish would (more on the side of foisted in soy). Otherwise, the balance of textures was there.<br/><br/>ATMOSPHERE: 5/5 Extremely clean and open space in Camberwell. <br/><br/>SERVICE: 5/5 Quick, considerate, and they actually time the bringing out of food so that people on the table get to eat at the same time! (A practice that so many restaurants neglect nowadays).<br/><br/>In effect, this place is great for Italian or more fusion salad feeds. I think the area feels great for larger groups too; noise levels are only that of general conversation and there are more food options than what the menu photos on Zomato show. My friend had a mushroom pizza - portion appeared good for the price and he smashed all of it so it must have been half decent at least!

Came here with some girlfriends for dinner and we had a great time. Ordered the mezze plate (good range of dips and will offer more bread, which is always a plus!), the mushroom pizza and a pasta. Well done to the chef! <br/><br/>Couldn’t help ourselves and ordered two desserts - the violet crumble honeypot (deadly sweet and so so good) and the vanilla brûlée (a satisfying crack but nothing too special). <br/><br/>The staff and waiters were super lovely and polite and definitely added to our great experience!

This grill salmon with salad is cooked just ate the right time. It’s Healthy and delicious. Definitely will come back.

My husband and I come here frequently and the service was great, consistent and the food is great! It is our weekend go to cafe when we don’t feel<br/>like cooking.

We ordered the lamb pizza and pasta matriciana, other patrons around us was given complimentary garlic bread however we were not offered which was a bit offensive. The food other wise was mediocre.<br/>I also ordered a cocktail the caprioska which they did not know how to make and did not taste that great.

Haven’t been to this restaurant before, I was impressed with friendly staff, great quality dough for pizza and yummy lamb. Food is really good value and great atmosphere and definitely kids friendly without being too noisy. Definitely will be back.

We really enjoyed the desserts we got here, with the sticky date pudding and vanilla bean pudding both being quite delish. Unfortunately, we werent as impressed by what preceded the desserts, with the mixed dips being pretty bland, and the chicken pizza having a bit of a soggy base.

Great atmosphere, delicious food. Staff was so accommodating and nice. A breath of fresh air to most places we have been. Definitely be back😉😊

Came here for a farewell dinner with a large group of friends. We chose this place because of Zomato Gold. We had 10 mains, 3 pizzas, 6 entrees and couple of salads for about $30 per head which was incredible value! Quality of food was not bad but nothing too special or memorable. Service was good and the place is quite spacious which is great for large groups.<br/><br/>Food wise it was probably more of a 3.5/5 but we saved $50 on mains with Zomato Gold so the extra 0.5 points are well deserved. We will come back here as long as they stay on Gold.

Best place I've been to so far since using Zomato Gold. Great little gem in Camberwell. It's been a while since I've been to a place where I couldn't decide which dish was my favorite, everything was delicious. Price was fair priced and staff were warm and friendly. Highly recommended

No idea why this place is a 3.9 star. But one of the best places I have been through Zomato gold. Staffs are very polite and when you ask them to advise , the choice is always great. We ended up eating more and more. Specially the dessert.

We hosted an engagement dinner in the private room with 22 guests, 7 of which were children under 8. The room was the perfect place for the children to play and enjoy while the adults could spend time together. Host Maddy was fantastic from the day we booked until the dinner, very hands on and accomodating and the other staff were amazing too! Everyone loved their food and the kids menu was a hit with the little ones. Thank you guys!<br/>

WHAT A DISGRACE - TAKE YOUR BUSINESS ELSEWHERE! I booked this restaurant for my party of 15 which included 13 children aged 7-12 for a birthday gathering for my 10 year old son after a movie session. Upon booking I explicitly explained that the meal was for a birthday gathering and went to the extra length to say we would pre-book all the meals to ensure service could be efficient for a quick dinner for this large young group and to exit the restaurant by 6:30pm. Today I personally went into the restaurant to confirm all the details and the staff assured me that all was well and indicated where our seating would be. Further I saw that we were the only booking for the upcoming Saturday. I have just received a call to say that management has cancelled our booking as they can no longer can take this size group on a Saturday night (yet confirmed they do not have anyone else booked for this time). This business seems to have no issues about its ability to be discriminate the type of business it accepts, so I encourage you to take your business elsewhere.

Been going here for years, I worked at the Rivoli, so suggested if people wanted a good feed but didn’t want to blow the bank to go here. Food is reasonable, it’s nothing amazing but it’s all fresh and tasty. Nice interior, good service and I’ve had some events there and all has gone well!

Always reliable always enjoyable.  A pleasant, laid back cafe that affords friendly service and tasty food. The panko chicken schnitzel is a personal favourite. A regular go to.  The pepperoni pizza is also one of the better pizzas around town.  A great venue for locals looking to spend sub $70 for 2 people.

Great coffee and food, would highly recommend. I had the carbonara, and the staff were more than happy to add chicken to it. Very accommodating and friendly staff who were lovely to have a chat to.

I had a lovely experience at Deco. <br/>Staff were friendly and offered prompt service. I had the slow roasted lamb shoulder with tabouli, tzatziki and Turkish bread. I really enjoyed the meal and it was quite filling. The people I dined with had the pumpkin risotto and the pulled pork burger - they were also very satisfied. <br/>The downfall was it was a little cold inside.

Thoroughly enjoyed our dinners, desserts, service and the ambience. The menu has been revised and updated since our last visit and all five of us chose something different and all were happy and satisfied. Our waiter was highly attentive and made recommendations that showed his good knowledge of the menu.

Service, environment and location are top notch. Will definitely return because it is also reasonably priced. Compliments to the chefs here also, I'm absolutely in love with your chocolate pudding and soba salad. 10/10!

Good food, good coffee, good prices, great location! Deco is a great place for a bite with family of any age before or after a movie. Most food $10-$15, tastes yum. Decor pleasant.

Here's a tip - if you walk past a place  in the heart of Camberwell Junction at 10AM on a Saturday morning and NO-ONE is in there, don't go in. This place was entirely staffed by local private high school students who don't have a clue.  I ordered fried eggs which were served like rubber together with a few extras that usually go with eggs. I politely asked for the dish to be remade. I was treated like a filthy beggar with a distasteful scowl from the 16 year old girl checking facebook on her phone. The breakfast came back a few minutes later with nice eggs but everything else was stone cold. They hadn't even bothered to re-cook the other items. This place won't be getting another cent from me. Camberwell is such a crusty old hole these days. The only reason this place is still in business is because all the mega rich baby boomers in the area can't be bothered driving any further than 5 minutes from their many palatial homes.

Decent Deco. With pole position outside the Rivoli Cinema, Deco could be forgiven for taking the captive audience for granted. But instead, it offers decent foods for reasonable money.<br/><br/>My pulled pork & noodle slaw salad was large, tasty and worth the $19 it cost. My friend's daughter can be a fussy eater but she loved the fish and chips, and her mum enjoyed the burger. It was pretty deserted on the Saturday lunch time when we visited and the staff were so lovely to my friend's little girl.<br/>

Worst pizza I've ever had. I'm sure they use frozen bases! Friend & I both had pizza so I can't comment on the other dishes. Service was great. Convenient for a quick bite before a movie. DO NOT ORDER THE PIZZA! <br/>

Happy to give this place two star because the staff are very friendly and attentive but that's where it ends. Most people can cook a better meal at home and the atmosphere would also be better. Simply the place needs to rethink what it's trying to achieve as it isn't doing anything well. I feel that I have wasted my money and time in this restaurant and won't be coming back.

Little place across from the rivoli cinema. Great location. Nothing wrong with this place but nothing overly special. Just another Italian restaurant in the suburbs. We did enjoy the Parmesan cheese on our parmigiana

Delicious dinner options! Pumpkin risotto with feta, pine nuts added chicken YUM! Lamb shanks and gnocchi also had great reviews from friends. All for a good price! Perfect for dinner just before heading to the rivoli for a movie.

Visited Deco today for my first time even though I'm a local. I went around 11am and ordered breakfast, I had the poached eggs on sourdough ($9) with adds ons for extra. I received generous amounts of mushrooms, bacon and two hash browns. Only downside was the toast was a bit dry and I only received one small piece. I think all up my meal cost around $19. The coffee was actually really lovely, quite a mild roast with perfectly steamed milk. The staff were so kind, really helpful and so pleasant to speak to. The breakfast menu is very basic, but sometimes basic is better and I think this was one of those times. Overall, I definitely had a nice experience and will be back again.

Again fantastic meal, great restaurant. We are now regulars. Great service. Try their garlic bread, lamb shank, pumpkin risotto, lamb shoulder and pulled pork Burger all very good and well prepared. Will recommend this to anyone.

A nice little cafe opposite the Rivoli cinema, it has a great menu that covers breakfast, lunch and dinner. Though the breakfast menu is small, the lunch menu has a wide range of options that are very appealing. The seating area is quite large, and gives customers enough space from their neighbouring tables to allow conversation.<br/><br/>We had the mushroom breakfast with poached egg, the chicken salad and the lemon tart dessert. The mushroom breakfast was very generous with mushrooms, which were excellently cooked and seasoned. The sourdough toast was a good combination, and did not get too soggy from all the heaped mushrooms. The accompanying feta sauce was a nice addition and balanced the dish well. Even without the egg, the dish would have been filling enough for either breakfast or lunch.<br/><br/>The chicken salad was also a generous portion, with large strips of grilled chicken and a well dressed salad. <br/><br/>Unfortunately, the lemon tart was quite bitter, and the accompanying lemon sauce did not help the overly tart flavour. <br/><br/>The coffee was good, and my mocha was a nice balance of sweet and bitter. <br/><br/>The cost for the meal was quite reasonable, and we were able to split the bill. The service was friendly, attentive and efficient.

Deco is a great spot for affordable, tasty dinners/lunches. We've come here often with large groups and the service has always been attentive to our needs and the food is always enjoyable. While it's not groundbreaking, it does a good meal for a much more reasonable price than some other places in the area!

Stopped by deco for breakfast on a Sunday. The coffee was lovely. I ordered the smashed avo with bacon. It was definitely a let down, the poached egg and bacon were both cold. Service was okay.

Fantastic service here. 3 vibrant young staff on the floor eager to please. Great good. Eye fillet. Risotto. Fish. Pizza. Kids (13-17) loved it and so did we. They rolled their eyes while eating the sticky date pudding. Fast service too. Couldn't fault. We will be back

Perfect venue for casual dinner as a couple or in group - varied menu that appeals to all, well priced and can be whipped up quickly if you are going to Rivoli for a film.

About right for the price. I can't say that I'm aching to back, but for the price the quality was about right and I certainly had no significant complaints.<br/><br/>For main I had the burger. It was pretty tasty, if a little dry in the middle (especially once all the relish and sauce had escaped). My partner had asked for the salmon, but they'd just run out, so the fish portion of the meal was substituted for gummy shark instead. It was okay - nothing to write home about, but not bad.<br/><br/>Dessert was the chocolate pudding for myself and the white chocolate brulee for my partner. Both were served with a fairly ordinary commercial ice-cream. The pudding was pretty damn tasty. The brulee was reported as sweet (which would make sense). For under $10 they were both good desserts.<br/><br/>Service was good, staff were friendly and for the price, this place is pretty decent. If you're in the area and looking for an inexpensive meal Deco is worth a look.

Not so Special Gnocchi. The special pumpkin gnocchi wasn't that special.

Not overly impressed. Oily salad and tasteless pumpkin gnocchi but service was fast and in good time for a movie.

Excellent Service and Great Location. The food is excellent very well priced with attentive staff. Surprising the wine list is really impressive, they know how to treat the customer with quality wines at the right price rather than some cheap wines that probably cost $2 a glass. Last week we were runing late for a movie and we had brilliant service one main with a glass of wine in and out in less than 30 minutes was perfect. Some lovely staff keep up the good work guys.

DISAPPOINTED. If your after a dining experience where it's very evident that the staff and owner are clearly not interested in customers receiving a good dining experience.........THEN THIS IS YOUR PLACE TO GO..... Although the food was ok, the service was a lot less desirable. Not only were the staff NOT interested as to whether we as customers were interested in a refreshment upon arrival, but it seems that either the kitchen staff or owner feel its acceptable to provide 300% markup on profits for additional toppings on a basic pizza wanting to charge an extra $ 24 for some lousy prawns to be added. I don't mind paying extra for anything but when you not only want to make a profit but then to also rip people off your very few customers you have, that I can't swallow..... I am surprised that given your lack of business why you wouldn't start to look at how you could improve your services and provide a better customer experience so you can not only get repeat business but also expand your customer base.

Disappointing. Ambience of the restaurant is lovely particular on warmer nights when the windows can be open. All our meals were lovely but the customer service by the 4 staff members was very disappointing. They were too busy chatting amongst themselves and were not being attentive to customers needs.

Great that they're open late. Food is meh. Not bad, not amazing. What I really like is: how late they are open for a takeaway coffee (pretty cheap for C-well) and no eftpos minimum. Also, customer service has always been really good.

I have been going to this restaurant for 7 years & had my first bad experience last Friday. I always order the delicious calamari salad and ask for a bit extra because the serving size isn't very filling in fact it's tiny. They usually do this for me and charge an extra 5-10 dollars. However this time the waiter told me they couldn't due to system restrictions (they use a manual register...) and said the only option was to order 2 which would cost me $32! The rude host also told me that whomever had put my previous orders through did the wrong thing and shouldn't have... So I guess Decos should have a stern word with over 10 plus different staff members over the past 7 years! He made me feel victimised - I had to ask for a glass of ice water 4 times and there were only 3 other tables. I'm so upset... I feel like I shouldn't return... Like they don't want my loyal business anymore. There goes my family, friend & sometimes business meeting spot. Whatever happened to going an extra mile for a customer?

Fabulous and satisfying. Having come to this cafe over the past 10 years it never fails to disappoint. The staff are friendly, attentive and provide good service. The menu choices and ambience just adds to the experience. One happy customer that continues to enjoy this cafe over and over again! well done!

Love it.. The staff are really friendly, the service is good, and the food is affordable and of a consistently high standard. I really love that they've started updating their decor, and they're including more art which is great. I'd like to see a comfy couch in the corner. Deco is unpretentious and welcoming, a good spot for locals, and they look after movie goers. One of camberwell's great institutions and a beautiful view of the rivoli. It's so hard to get brunch in Melbourne in the afternoon, but Deco does brunch til 4pm!<br/><br/>Coffee is consistently good, but not wanky! If you're looking for fine-dining or a soda water chaser served with your espresso, deco is not for you.

Bland. I had the salmon fettuccini & my husband had the lamb shank. Both were bland & something I could have cooked at home. Lacking atmosphere. Service was nothing special. Should have looked at other options.

Deco is a steadfast favorite. Amidst the myriad of ever changing dining options in Camberwell, Deco has remained a steadfast favourite. The food is honest, tasty and well priced and the service is great. The menu options are true café style and a range of options are offered to suit every palate. The coffee is suitably fresh and well made and a range of other beverages are on offer with some fairly good options for wine drinkers. Deco is highly recommended if you are after something quick and tasty.

Walked out!!. Lovely menu, so went in for lunch today. We were immediately seated. 20 minutes later, no menus, no water, no one to even take a drinks order while we made our selection. Waving & trying to attract the attention of a wait person, was a waste of time. We walked out & went to Fiorellis, where we experienced impeccable service & a delicious meal.

Not suitable for vegetarians as there were only two options...the waitress stated that they could make a pasta dish...containing the toppings from the pizza. A lazy kitchen. Will not go back.

Give it a MISS. What a disappointing meal we had there last night, Lamb pizza...try finding the lamb, should have read onion pizza & when you were able to find the lamb dry dry dry next the steak sandwich was very very disappointing to say the least let alone on the presentation.

Would NEVER !! Come back meal was awful $19 dollars for a burger , was expecting gourmet, sadly tasted like a quarter pounder , my friends meals were average as well, and maybe it would have been nice to have our water topped up , no customer service at all

What happened. Used to love the eye fillet and it was awesome. Please bring it back apart from that awesome place for a meal.

The service was terrible, I could not understand why it took over 15mins to be served tap water. As soon as we were finally served the ladyy was rude, as if I had personally offended her with my presence. Needless to say me and my partner left immediately.

1st time guest yesterday and will definitely be back. Excellent service over lunch, relaxed and friendly but still professional. Loved the lamb dish,slow cooked shoulder that melted! Yum!

Only stayed for a coffee. It was piping hot, so couldn't taste anything much. Service was attentive. Nice view of Rivoli Cinema. Good music. Menu looks nice. Would try again for eats.

I have been to Deco many times and I LOVE IT !! It's a great place to go before a movie at the rivoli theatre they do meals very quickly if you let them know you need to be out to catch a movie. Service is excellent the staff and management are onto it. Before I realize I've finished my wine they are there to offer me a new one! I quite often go for the marinara or the eye fillet steak both are to die for. They also do yummy pizzas which you could eat one on your own or share with a friend. I highly recommend next time your in the hawthorn camberwell area that you check it out :-)

Disappointing. Such a shame that a restaurant in a highly sought after location (opposite Rvioli) could be so average. The food what boring and bland, do not waste your money and time.

Agree with below.. AVERAGE. Nothing great about the flavours, boring menu, good playlist in the background. you could tell the waitresses were trying, props to them. overpriced standard cafe food. give it a miss....

Average. Deco offers a luke warm dining experience. Nothing bad, but nothing really good either. Great if you're looking for a cheap pizza before catching a movie, though.

Uninspiring. The menu was very boring, with your standard pasta and risotto choices which they didn't do particularly well. I had a spongy minestrone soup. I also a beef salad got a small bowl of salad with a few flavourless thin strips of cheap cut beef. I wanted to get out as soon as I could.

Great for a bite before or after the flicks. Always fast and polite service accompanied by a tasty fresh meal.

Disappointing. Two words for this restaurant - don't bother. On a Sunday night the place was noisy and service, well what service? What sort of restaurant doesn't even ask if you would like a drink? My husband had chicken parmigiana which looked to have sauce straight out of a bottle. We certainly won't be back and won't recommend it to anyone.

If you are thinking of going post movie, dont bother unless you like noise, and poor service. I attended with a party of 4. We were not offered any drinks, I had gnocchi, which was uncooked and sauce was just passata from a bottle with a bit of basil thrown in. I had to get up from the table to request parmasan cheese. No one came near us after the meal was serviced. I was then told I should have told them the gnocchi was uncooked. No chance was given. Very poor.

Inconsistent. First time we went to deco it was a quiet early afternoon & we got 1st class service & great food, second time we attended they were a lot busier & the service & quality of the food went out the window. spaghetti marinara was sublime first visit. second visit, it was average tasting & was not served with the correct cutlery to eat it & no plate was provided to place shells etc on as it was the first time. disappointing. perhaps worth another try but if they are busy we will give it a wide berth.

Consistently Good. We eat here quite a bit as it is consistently good. The gnocchi are as good as I've had anywhere in Melbourne and so is the Mushroom Rissoto. Service is fast and friendly. It's generally easy to get a table as they turn over pretty quickly. Not the best place for a long leisurely dinner but if it's a qick meal you want then this is the place. Plenty of parking nearby too.

Deco is always a reliable option for breakfast, lunch or dinner. The food is cooked well and reasonably priced, I especially love the pizzas! Service can be a bit hit and miss but overall a positive dining experience.

Should improve.. Average food but reasonable price. Service was quite good. One thing which i found should be improve which was their selections were bit small. Nothing much attracted me to try. Anyway, this place attracted younger customers compared with other restaurant around.

Brilliant!!!. My boyfriend and I frequent Deco's rather alot. Its generally wonderful service, always brilliant food, cooked fabulously. Every single time we visit we always have a conversation about how Deco's has to be one of our most enjoyable watering holes. This is also proven by the amount of people this restaurant always has seated. This place is buzzing. And its enjoyable to see so many people like our selves having a wonderful evening in such a splendid atmosphere. Just BRILLIANT!!!

Reliably Good. Been there twice recently. Some nights seem to attract a younger crowd such as Wednesday night when it was pretty busy; we had to wait 10 minutes for a table. <br/>I ordered wok seared chicken with hokkien noodles cooked in a green curry sauce with cashews. Chicken was soft with a lovely flavour which was not overpowered by the curry sauce which is a little spicy, but not over the top.<br/>My daughter had the eye fillet steak with roast potatoes and pepper sauce. She really enjoyed it. I sampled it and the steak was soft and tender just as it should be. No problems going back there again.

Quick & easy and good value. Nice food, nice atmosphere and always quick. Reasonably priced.

One of the worst dining experiences. My girlfriend and I went here for breakfast on a Sunday and were treated to just-out-of-the-refrigerator-cold fare; the bacon and eggs consisting of one scrambled egg on a foccacia the size of a family sized pizza. We had to remind the waitress about the coffees we ordered fifteen minutes prior, they were still unseen by the time our extremely disappointing meals got to the table. Luckily the manager apologized and comped our meal. Will not be eating here again.

The menu is boring, the food tastes very average and is general unappealing compared to most of the nearby restaurants.<br/><br/>The place looks terrible, no effort seems to have been taken in making the place look better as a result what is left looks grimy and dull. The looks are further emphasised by the far nicer looking (and tasting) restaurants surrounding it.
