Review Mimi's Restaurant - Camberwell

Chloe Hansen
I tried Mimi's for the first time tonight after hearing great things and it was honestly a let down... the pizza base was quite like cardboard and something I could have made at home with a store bought base and the pasta was cooked well but most of the sauce seemed to be oil. The last three quarters of the dish was swimming in oil. Having spent $50 on a small pizza and single serve pasta, I am a bit disappointed in the quality of the food. I understand a certain percentage is lost when being delivered but for a local favourite this was quite average.

Fantastic food in a nice environment. It's terrific to have a restaurant like this with such a broad range of choices on the menu. I will definitely be returning 🙂

Amazing restaurant. Pleasantly surprised by the great food and wonderful service. Will visit again.

Excellent service from all staff, delicious meals . We where a table of 12 all meals arriving in minutes of each other. A very enjoyable dining experience. Highly recommend.

Great restaurant & great food. Supported these guys weekly during COVID and only ever had one meal we were not happy with. The manager was too busy to speak with us and never returned our call. We love supporting small business and it would be nice if they in turn support their customers and their feedback. Disappointing guys, as a long standing customer I expected more. You have gone from a five to a two in my opinion. One phone call & I wouldn't have felt the need to write this review.

Very efficient ordering online. Two pizzas and the garlic small pizza. Flavours were good and a nice variety to choose from. The base, however, is not homemade. The dough is premade/frozen, chewy, and very uniform. If the base was homemade, would be a 5/5.

Absolutely amazing !! The best pizza in Melbourne . Great bases and a large array of interesting toppings. Highly recommended 🥳🥳

Best pizza Owner or their manager suggested me vegetarian and meat pizza and made them according to my taste preferences. I wish I could go to this place every day.

Good range of traditional and gourmet pizzas for take away. We ordered the Aloha, Napoleon, Ozi Ozi Ozi and Capricosa. There was an abundance of anchovies. The pizzas were a bit dry and lacking of toppings for my liking.

Pan fried gnocchi was so delicious. Desserts were around the $14-16 Mark, but they were huge. We shared. Beef cheek also good and tasty. Easy parking. Quiet neighborhood. A gem!
I Love Melb Food
We usually order Mimis pizza on a Friday evening and its always great. The garlic pizza is really nice, the kids love the ham and pineapple and I usually order a veg with extra jalapeños. Only lost one star due to the fact that they forgot our bottle of sprite a few times.

Pan fried gnocchi was delish! Staff were polite but seemed busy & not attentive. Price is quite high for mains.

Absolutely loved the seafood pasta and the renovation looks fantastic too. Keep up the good work!
I visited Mimi’s many times always friendly staff and good food
Ambience is quite good, especially sitting outside.
Food was average
My pasta was too soft and too creamy (salmon linguine)
A little too pricey for what you get

Been to this restaurant many times both as dine in and takeaway. Although probably overpriced for this style of food but good to see a restaurant set in a local neighbourhood. Service has been not bad in the past but today we had a terrible experience. We ordered two kids meals which were $15.50 each and comes with juice or milk. We also ordered a kids size pizza to share. At no stage were we offered the juice. Instead we were only given tap water. I completely forgot about the juices offer. I only remembered that we didn't receive the drinks when I saw that we had been charged for 3 x kids meals. I brought this to the attention of the waitress and she very rudely said that we can take away the juice. No apologies for not offering it earlier. I emphasised that we have now finished our meals and don't really need to "takeaway" any juice. However, I am not happy to pay for something they didn't offer. Instead of offering apologies for any disappointment for oversight the waitress made it out like I was trying to rip them off and in her words "I only remembered about the juices when I am paying"! She then said they are not obligated to tell me or remind me about the juice offer as it is printed on the menu! Its my obligation to ask for it myself. If I didn't ask then its not their problem! Paid $115 for dinner and left feeling angry and belittled. Will not be returning any time soon.

Was extremely disappointed to see that the online order system for a dish is up to $5 more expensive (fungi pasta for two) than the in store takeaway menu even though I was still picking up. Would only ever call to order and hunt online for a photo of their menu or not go back at all based on this behaviour. Claim was it was for Uber surcharges, etc. Thats not acceptable when it’s a pickup order.

Came here on a Tuesday night when it was not busy. The restaurant is roomy with outdoor seating so you can bring your pooch.
We ordered Tasmania salmon and seafood linguine with a side of chips.
The salmon was well done or I should day overcooked which was a bit of a waste. Seafood linguine was a bit oily. The food is quite average but the price is not so average. I wouldn't come again unless I had a voucher.

Ordered a takeaway of my usual chicken quinoa salad, for some reason this time it was different from all the other times I'd ordered it previously (lack of quinoa, no tomato, etc). Very polite staff who were more than happy to replace it and make another. The second serving was fine.

Mimi’s restaurant attached to Mimi’s pizza has a beautiful romantic atmosphere perfect for a date night with the food to match. Loved the kitchen being in the same environment and the wait staff being so friendly and attentive. We ordered the parma with pineapple added on top. As well as the eye fillet where they were quite accommodating with changing items on the dish to suit me. Overall, fantastic dining experience that I would recommend for anyone in the area!

What a lovely surprise! After driving past Mimi's for years, we finally made it there for dinner and it was a real treat. Met warmly by the restaurant manager Wim, we were seated at a nice warm table and given some menu suggestions after mentioning I am a vegetarian. I had a massive quinoa and herb salad and hubby had a veggie-laden mushroom risotto. Both were delicious and we are already planning our next visit.

Delicious meal - best gnocchi I have had in a long time, and husband's steak cooked perfectly. Finished off with an amazing chocolate dessert. Comfy, warm & great value. We will be back.

Good pizza. Quick deliver. Problems: Dough has no salt, ot seems. Also the dough is very thin and tasted like white bread roll. Definitely not your traditional pizza. And garlic pizza came with cheese and, absolutely no garlic.also the cheese on pizzas... I would hope it should be on top of the toppings and not under. Not enough cheese. Overall, expensive for what you get but not bad in any way, just below what pizza stands for. Mimi pizza gave no joy whatsoever.

This cafe seems to have changed hands. They used to allow BYO, and now only on a Wednesday. The cafe is very noisy with extra loud music to detract from the ambience.
Food was only fair. Two at our table ordered chicken parmigianas, and got huge plate sized pieces of crumbed chicken atop an equally huge serving of chips. Just too much food in one serving. Prices are top dollar too. We won't return

My partner and I went here with an entertainment voucher. We booked ahead and I'm glad we did, as it was busy. We were seated straight away and the staff were very attentive. We had the arancini balls to share, for entree. My favourite was the bolognese one, while my partner loved the mushroom and thyme. They were fantastic.

For mains, I had the special, which was a trio of mushroom risotto with truffle oil, goats feta and rocket. It was perfect. Well seasoned and the risotto was perfectly cooked. The mushrooms were delicious and the goats cheese and rocket balanced the dish out perfectly. My partner had the parma. It was the appropriate size for a chicken breast and was very juicy. It was well cooked. They honoured the voucher with no problems. Was a great meal and will come again!

Mimi's offers the option of dining in or taking away from the adjoined kitchen; the latter our usual selection during the rush of midweek banality. The pizzas are well made to an Australian standard; combining fresh ingredients with a crispy base. The pastas are similarly enticing and are a great option to combat the cold during Melbourne's chilling winter months. All in all, Mimi's is a local favourite tucked away in suburban Camberwell; well worth a try!

We (family of 4) finally had an opportunity to try this place out. Food was good, service was slow and prices were way too high for this style of place. We will be unlikely to return.
Joe Brogno
Best gluten free pizzas I ever have. They're that good! We travel a long way to eat here and the food is always great, and the staff are so friendly. Definitely one of our favourite places.
May
Italian restaurant in the local neighbourhood with great selection of food. Good service and nice ambience. We really loved the smoked chicken mushroom risotto!

After failing to secure a booking for Saturday night at three other restaurants Mimi's was suggested! Booking made we headed to Mimi's situated on a fairly busy suburban road between camberwell & hartwell. Extremely friendly staff, very tasty food, throw in an exception Spanish red wine and super special company = excellent experience. Only negative would be the noise level, it was quite high due to a number of tables with children & a table of super rambunctious adults. But would happily return again 😊

Been here a couple of weeks ago on Sunday night. It was rather quiet. The ambience was cosy and the service was attentive. The parma, pizza and risotto we ordered were of a good standard but nothing exceptional. Pricing was reasonable as they used good quality and quantity of ingredients.
Gavin James
I've been going to Mimi's regularly since they opened years back. The food is consistently good, however very disappointed the other day when they would not accept a valid entertainment book voucher, stating it was for dine in only with no note of this on the voucher and against the entertainment book's guidelines. With so many other options in the area, think I'll be saying farewell. Shame really...
Our Foodie Finds
In between a wedding at St. Domenic's church and the reception at Leonda, we needed a quick fix of food before we passed out from hunger and thirst. Tucked away down Highfield road in Camberwell, Mimi's Pizza was the best bet and well reviewed.

Warmly welcomed by the staff, we brought along about 20+ people with us. Luckily the place wasn't too busy at the time. The few people in the shop were local regulars who spent their time having a quiet coffee over a few pages of their recently selected novels.

With seating inside and out of the store and large bay windows to allow the light to flood the room, Mimi's definitely impressed for a pizza place.

Ordered a small Capricosa and a glass of Pinot Noir to wash it down with. The base was thin and juicy with a good taste to it but could definitely do some work with flavour, toppings were fairly generous and tasted quite fresh also. Pretty good over all.

Staff were very helpful and attended to our every need. They even split the bill for us at the end which was surprising seeming as there were 20+ people.

If ever in Camberwell, drop in and check them out. Till next time, this is Our Foodie Find!

While I often get takeaway from Mimi's this was the first time dining in for a while. It was OK, just OK. Children's menu expensive for what was on offer, especially when compared with other places ($15.50 for main course only). Serve sizes of main meals were enormous, I would prefer 2/3rds of the serve size for 2/3rd of the price, the price point is a bit high relative to quality of the food. Meals took a long time to arrive, given it was about half full on a mid week night.

Visited this place on a Saturday night and it was busy despite it being located away from the main strip of Camberwell shops. We had a booking so there was no wait. Both my dining partner and I ordered the seafood pasta without the lobster option as they had run out that day. I guess I didn't expect much, but when the dish arrived I was pleasantly surprised by the balance of flavours in the pasta sauce and the fresh seafood they used. The only fault with the dish is that there was a small pool of butter/oil at the bottom. Overall I'd come back to this place as it is a hidden gem. Service was pleasant and price reasonable for the quality you get.
Food Lover
I came here yesterday and ordered a lobster linguini. The lobster linguini had a mix of prawns and lobster in it which therefore is not a "lobster" linguini. Worst of all, the lobster in the pasta was rotten and I had to send it back. I can't believe that they even served it as people can get sick! They replaced it with a seafood risotto which was oily and greasy. I normally don't write reviews but just want to warned people to be aware and cautious when ordering seafood from this restaurant.
Coffee Lover
Home delivery. Ordered carbonara- got a tub of melted butter. Ordered spag Bol no Parmesan cheese... Got cheese. Both meals inedible waste of $34.
Bbhood85
Great dining experience, really cosy ambiance. Staff were attentive and the service prompt. Seafood pasta was excellent, however the steak medallions were fairly average (meat and veg, something that I felt I could replicate at home when the moons are aligned).

Nice little place, will be back but stick to the pasta and pizzas.
Winewonker
Pretty poor all round. Pizza Hut quality pizzas at 4 times the price. $7 for a bowl of over fried chips, 2 of which were edible. Was told that's how they come when questioning them. Buy shares in this place because they must make a lot of money for what they charge vs the quality of the ingredients... Not coming back.
Having ordered take away pizza from here once before pizza and finding it rather moreish we decided to dine in on this occasion. Sadly, the pizza was smaller than a standard dining plate yet cost $24. Even more surprising was that I could almost count the toppings on one hand. Stick to the take away side of this business unless you want to blow money or lose weight.

i think the place is awesome!!! The staffs are friendly and welcoming. The food is really delicious. We ordered the tiger prawn as entree ( which can be eaten as risotto actually) , the favor is rich , fresh prawns, garlic all worked perfectly together. Can't have it enough. The seafood linguini is also really good.. The taste of olive oil with a hint of tomato and chili all create a perfect balance in my mouth.

Chookie. Horrible

-----22 Aug, 2015-----

Abysmal. Pizza bases not enough salt in the dough
Not enough cheese on the top
Tasteless tomato sauce
Rubbery meat.

Never again.

Visited Mimi's on Fri night.
The food was very nice. Staff were great not to mention the free wine the owner offered us to try. See you soon Mimi's

Soggy, greasy pizza with way too much topping. I've had it several times and not sure why I keep going back- never again! Waste of money and will now be having toast for dinner.

Mother's Day lunch. On Sunday we celebrated Mother's Day at Mimi's and each person in our party of 5 had pleasant meals at reasonable prices. The waiters were attentive and the overall service prompt. The decor was good and the atmosphere inviting. I would not hesitate to return to this restaurant.
Todd.rowson
Not great service. We went to have a pizza and pasta dinner for Mother's Day. Unfortunately they didn't tell us there would be no pizza due to Mother's Day!!
We spent $230 between 5 adults and 3 kids (happy to do so) but they picked up half full water glasses off our table to clear us out after we had been there for an hour. Not a great experience this time

Excellent Food!. Came here last night for my Birthday! Was treated exceptionally by the kind staff. The "Hot Banger" was delicious! This Is definitely worth coming back!

Mimi's Pizza. How happy I am that I chose this restaurant out of all the other restaurants found on the same street, the food at Mimi's was delicious.
I rate this restaurant 7/10.

Decent pizza. Not bad... will be returning

Rude manager and always getting our orders wrong. The last 6 times we ordered pizza it has always been wrong. When we speak to the manager to try and correct the order he is very rude and abrubt. Seems like "the customer is always right" philosophy does not apply here.

I have also found pieces of ham on my vegetarian pizza on two occassions. This is poor form and unacceptable.

Never buying pizza from here again. Tonight was the last straw

Thanks Mimi's. A lovely little find in a suburban street. Sophisticated ambience great service beautiful food and menu for a very reasonable price. Have been back many times.

Wont be back. Manager is very rude, not enough staff, bit un-organised. Food was ok though.

A very pleasant surprise. We had not been to Mimi's for quite some time as we had been disappointed on a number of fronts. We decided to return last night and what a wonderful surprise. We had a lovely dinner. The restaurant has been tastefully redecorated with a good a good feel about it The front of house staff were very professional, welcoming and friendly. The Menu selection was good and the food excellent. (The chocolate mousse is out of this world). We will return. J & C (locals)

Wont deliver. Despite their website and menulog both listing delivery to Glen Iris (10mins down the road) they called to tell us we weren't in the delivery area. They need to update their website to reflect a delivery area of 'walking distance only' if they can't cover a 10minute radius.

Five star recommendation. First went to MiMi's about 2 years ago, and had hands down the best pan fried gnocchi I have ever tasted. They have now taken it off the menu but every dish that I have had at MiMi's has been amazing, such good quality food and service. MiMi's takeaway from restaurant or pizza shop is incredibly reasonably priced too, and definitely the best pizza I have had in Melbourne. I love this place and would eat there every night if I could!

Edit: New review based on bad experience in May 2020.

I am a long term visitor to this restaurant since I used to live in the area.

My Entertainment Book 2 for 1 voucher is expiring this weekend. They wouldn't let me use it for takeaway for the exact same items as I would order if I dined in despite the restaurant being closed.

I drove over 20 KMs to use this voucher so it was incredibly frustrating. When I called a few weeks earlier, I was told I could use it for takeaway so something has changed.

This restaurant is off my list and I won't be returning.
--

Very tasty. Went to Mimi's and had one of the most delicious seafood pastas I have had for a while. My husband had the seafood pizza which was nice too. Will be back.

Best steak I've had in a while must try!! Great service awesome local

Spring rolls are good. Lasagne was undercooked and pretty yuck in general.
Scorpionbite26
So-so. Was ok, the wine was excellent and the staff great I just found the food (haloumi and pan friend gnocchi to be a little bland. Otherwise the dessert was brilliant.
Div
Good pizzas. Decided to order the pizzas from here one Friday night in place of Dominoes. Wasn't disappointed at all.
CK
Outstanding!. I'm not ashamed that I've been here for pizza 3 times in less than a week; and I'm not ashamed that I'm eating alone either, because anyone who'd witnessed how quickly I demolished that pizza would be concerned. Compliments to the chef(s) !

Great Local Restaurant. This is a restaurant will flair, a great atmosphere, warm and offers a great wine list especially in Camberwell (which is a dry zone)! And what really sets this restaurant apart is the service, its warm, friendly, the waiters will come and talk & joke with you, I would say MiMi's is the epitome of what makes a local restaurant successful.

Kudos goes to the restaurant manager he has really lifted this place, into something that Camberwell has never had.
Tim Norrish
My girlfriend and I have been frequent customers of Mimi's pizza. Very comprehensive menu including restaurant quality food. Having a delivery service has made our life very easy.
Andrea M
Disgraceful service, second attempt at eating here after a bad first experience and you did not deserve a second shot. The manager (Not a 100% sure of his position) wearing blazer with jeans is extremely rude and doesn't know how to respond to customers requests in a decent manner. On both occasions you did not have enough staff on to cope with the full house dinner schedule you were trying to run.
Polidot
Really disappointed. Went here with great expectations two weeks ago, as their menu seemed quite good. Service was friendly but so slow and quite inattentive. When they came to the table, they gave the impression they were on top of things, but trying to get them to the table was not easy. As for the food, some of the people I was with enjoyed theirs. We had calamari for entree and t came out cold and the coating tasted like donuts and was quite undercooked (the calamari was cooked fine). I had the seafood risotto and honestly, it tasted like rice with butter, it was so flavourless. Someone had the salmon and said it was too dry. The steak was apparently good and the pasta was ok but very oily.

I'm not really sure what purpose the man in the suit served, as he seemed to just walk around making sure everything was ok and it really wasn't. His staff were disorganised and he wasn't helping at all.

I might try it again with our kids for the $15 parma, but that would be all.

I had a great night again at Mimi's, the manager is so personable, and we had a great time chatting to him about wines, we love this place and he really makes Mimi's what it is. The food is great too :-) thanx guys

-----07 Jan, 2014-----

Great Local Restaurant. Just came home from a great dinner at our local restaurant. We just live around the corner and the hubby and I decided to try MiMi's for the first time. We couldn't believe how good this place was, great service for a local restaurant, friendly staff we got greeted when we arrived and upon leaving the restaurant. My hubby had a pizza while I had the prawn linguini, both amazing.

The manager really made us feel welcome, he came over and spoke to us for a few minutes, then we saw him repeat this to other tables.

I was really impressed, and this is my local restaurant not a fancy shindig in the CBD, I will be returning with my whole family next time.

Thanx guys

I

Passing off Aust wine as French. Mimi's used to be our great local pasta restaurant, but things have changed!
The new manager has no personality - which until tonight, was ok.
However, tonight he tried to tell us that the Tyrrell's Arabella Rose that he delivered to the table was the Chatteau De Sours Sparkling Rose from Bordeaux that we ordered from the wine list - 'just with the local Australian label'.
Really disappointed - now looking for a new local pasta restaurant!

Food would you like loud Noise with that?. The food at this place is good; but the 100db noise is appaling. We went to Mimi's to have a meal with a friend from interstate. The head banging muzak drowned out the conversation. On asking if the crappy stuff could be turned down the reply was "Yes"; but nothing happened - so no tips possibly no return. A good meal is about the conversations, the food and not shouse music.
Scott
What a disorganized rabble! Ordered take away pasta! Was told 15 minutes! Half am hour later I felt obliged to ask where it was only to be told that the kitchen couldn't go any faster! This better be good!
Tai Robin
What a lovely surprise!! The food was amazing pork belly was absolutely delish, Eton mess yum!! Service was great made u feel welcome, great buzz around this place!! The rest of the table had same feed back, keep it up guys love love love!!! And they do it all takeaway as well.... What more can u ask for in a local...
Tony
Definitely worth it.... It was busy on the Saturday... The front staff definitely earning their keep, and while the water, or the order may have taken a wee bit longer than one hoped, the staff are definitely making you feel you are not forgotten... But it has buzz, and good food, at a reasonable price... In a local atmosphere... What more does one need for a good Saturday night! And to be specific, the bread with the dips... So light! And the chilli linguini... Delish.... We will be back.... P.s. The tyrells house wine... Great value...
Jacques
Go for a walk!. After a pretty rough welcome: The table not being ready despite booking, the restaurant manager advised us to "go for a walk for 15-20 minutes". 2 adults and 2 kids going for a walk when the table isn't ready... really!!!

Anyway, we waited and I must admit our dishes were very good. Fluffy gnocchi, tasty quinoa salad, well cooked salmon.

Eton mess was good. Forget the chocolate mousse. Some particles inside which we couldn't identify.

All in all a nice little place, 10min walk from our place. We will probably come back if they don't ask us again to "go for a walk"!
Sun
Great food, Great atmosphere. Loved the gnocchi sage and seafood linguine. Oh.....full of flavors. Will return back again and again. Highly recommended.

Did the full Monty! Entree grilled haloumi- lovely. Main prawn pasta- excellent. Dessert chocolate mousse- exquisite. Great service. Thanks Mimi's I'll be back!

Reliability +. I organised a massive order and all was delivered. Great food and very reliable. They were able to meet some interesting dietary requirements by some of my colleagues at work.
Julia
Worst take-away I've ever had. Pasta had very little flavour and sauce was mostly oil. After only three bites my mouth felt coated with oil. Garlic pizza was mediocre. My boyfriend had a lamb pizza and said the quality of the meat was unpleasant. I am not normally very fussy but the quality of this food was really disappointing. We definitely won't return. It's a shame because the menu looked promising.
Anna Elizabeth
Amazing!. We received a flyer for Mimi's Pizza yesterday in the mail and noticed that they deliver a range of foods, not just pizza, so given it was a wet and windy night, we decided to give it a try! We ordered the Funghi Gnocci and the Pumpkin Risotto and had it delivered within 45 minutes and it was incredible! The homemade gnocci in particular was probably the best gnocci I've ever had! Didn't try their pizza this time but will do so next time. I definitely recommend trying Mimi's!

A welcome new restaurant to Middle Camberwell. Very happy to have Mimi's as a new local favourite, great outdoor seating and nice ambience inside too, very good service with attentive & chatty staff making sure you're happy with everything.
Yes a definite must do would be the BYO option (even if they charged $8-$10 per bottle corkage, it would still be a drawcard), but with the limited and expensive wine list it's not encouraging to go or to stay longer. I love their breakfasts, however servings become much smaller each time I go. Their Pasta's are very good & really tasty. They do sensational takeaway, best Pasta you will ever get delivered and the Pizza's have also been yummy & very good.
Come on Mimi's go the BYO (not just one night a week!) and you will be pumping every night and be assured that diners will still order from your winelist, but it's just a Camberwell thing - we love our old school BYO!
Nicki Barr
Blah .... Have just returned from dinner at Mimi's Restaurant and must admit, it's been quite some time since we've tasted such poor food. Bland and bad are two adjectives that come to mind. Shame, since we live in the local area. The restaurant was busy with lots of kids (great - we had one, too) but even our young teen claimed the pasta was 'tasteless'. Adults tried it and agreed. Service was friendly and fast, doesn't make up for very expensive, very ordinary tucker. Will not be returning.

Great fresh pizza. Has become our regular take away pizza shop. Lovely fresh pizza with lots of options. Not cheap but very flavourful and enough for our small family.
Mark England
We just returned from having a delicious meal at Mimi's. Great pizza and pasta full of flavor. Our first visit and we will definitely return. Service was very friendly . A real find!
Love Life
It was great!. We finally took our two children with us to Mimi's on a Saturday night (on the suggestion of the 8 year old.) We sat outside and had a wonderful time. Our server was very good at explaining the menu to someone that does not often order carbs so when you do it must be good! The kid’s meals were generous and looked almost adult like. We had a delicious pasta and Caesar salad. The wine list was good and we had a couple of fantastic glasses of wine. We would go every night if we could!
Belinda
We get take away from Mimi's regularly (have never dined in). We think the pizza is fantastic and the pastas/risottos are great value too!
Picnic
Rude Manager, won't be back. My brother didn't realise it was licensed and had BYOed ginger beer. He had poured some for himself and my mother (in her 70's) -the manager came over and took the drinks away! Another brother told the manager we would be ordering drinks, the manager replied he didn't like the attitude. Manager should have let them drink the soft drink as it was a misunderstanding and more wouldnt have been opened. So our table of 10 didn't order any drinks, coffees, desserts or entrees. Took 45 minutes for meals to arrive, average chicken tandoori pizza for $21
Charlotte
This place is the worst! It is overpriced for the quality, staff and rude and it took 45mins for a takeaway after being told it was going to be 10mins. This place is also home to every over 65 year old in Camberwell - avoid.
Ria21
I went there for the first time Sunday night and i loved it.
I had the pan fried gnocchi and it was delicious. They were seasoned with sage butter sauce and chilli flakes, and accompanied by fresh green beans.
It was the perfect meal as the serving size was generous enough, but not too big seeing as gnocchi is quite filling regardless.
Not only did i love my meal but so did the rest of the table, i heard rave reviews about the salmon.
I recommend the pan fried gnocchi.

Homely food suburban restaurant. Chicken Parma and eye fillet with roesti / mushrooms solid enough. Iceberg with mustard dressing side good. Quite busy.. Christmas season ? Don't mind this addition to suburbia east Camberwell.
Rowena Garrett
We had a great night, the food was lovely, burger a bit greasy but otherwise delicious.
Very disappointed in the lack of BYO option and how do you justify the price of those wines on your wine list?
Paul Clark
Great Potential but Disappointing. Similar to other reviews we had great hopes for this restaurant. Didn't enjoy the previous restaurant but the one prior to that "Highfields" was excellent and we still miss it. We therefore hoped that Mimi's might get back closer to the quality of Highfields. We have eaten there twice now and been disappointed each time. Food is ok but not great, service is just ok. Extremely surprised with the lack of BYO option. Whilst we frequently eat at other fully licensed restaurants it is not suitable for this type of restaurant. If it was designed as more of a fine dining option then that would be ok but this is still a family style of restaurant. The wine list is limited and very expensive for the quality on offer. We live within the same block and have spoken to many of our friends who, like us, would like to be eating at Mimi's regularly including during the week nights. All our friends have the same views and will not dine there too frequently while there is no BYO option. A very foolish decision for a restaurant that is missing out on its full potential by an inappopriate drinks policy. We have no issues in paying a reasonable corkage/service charge.
Collo
Food good but.... A local restaurant within walking distance that has had a number of incarnations over the years. We thought we would give this a crack. First up this place in previous lives had always been BYO, in fact nearly every restaurant, hatted places included allow BYO with corkage. Had got one step into the door when the owner informed me NO BYO. not "welcome to Mimis, lovely to see you...etc", simply NO BYO. i explained i was happy to pay $20 corkage(the wine was very good). Geez an ordinary way to greet people.
First up the steak was fantastic, rare side of medium and a super bit of porterhouse. The calamari was good, but the salad and dipping sauce needed a contrast.
The wait staff are slovenly, their wait clothes are crushed and dirty. Dont need to be served by a girl with a piercing through her lip.
For a suburban restaurant without any flash trappings the wine prices are outrageously expensive and served in ordinary glass. if paying $12 a glass for a wine that costs less than $20 in dan's at least serve in Riedel.
To have the owner eating his meal at the table near the front door...

We quite regularly get garlic prawns which are always lovely. The salad leaves a little to be desired unfortunately....bit of spinach and maybe a quarter of a tomato...........this is after asking for a plain salad but we did expect some lettuce leaves (which is what was asked for) and at least a reasonable amount of tomato . Bit disappointing. Would still order though.

Pleasantly surprised.... Have to say, it wasn't what we expected, and by that, we mean that it was great! Nestled in the heart of the suburbs where it's nice and cosy, we were blown away at the remarkable affordability of our meals, the quality of our food (and desserts!) and of the service. I highly recommend giving Mimi's a go and experiencing quality food with quality people.

Had the takeaway capricciosa pizza on Tuesday nite, yum-o!!! Can't wait to try the restaurant, it looks very cool! Just what this sleepy little pocket needed

Loved it to bits! My second time there,, and there will defiantly be more. Had the calamari and seafood linguine. Perfect texture for the calamari and great flavour for the linguine. Service is fantastic as they acknowledged that we had been there befor, she even remembered my drink:)

Comfortable setting however staff over zealous!! Had the Steak Sandwich which was delicious..porterhouse steak was tender and Chimichurri sauce yummo! One advice to owner....relax byo restrictions

Oh so disappointing. We are locals keen for a delicious meal
Well - the decor is well presented, spacious, comfortable seating, lovely music in the background, clean and enjoyable
The food was really poor
We ordered garlic bread and got pizza, the peas were like stones, the salmon dry and tasteless . Calamari was very good, chocolate tart overheated, runny and beyond enjoyment
Wine was $12 per glass expensine but good
Coffee was good
Overall overpriced and poorly delivered.
Disappointing
Let's hope they can learn and improve

Disappointing. Overpriced and no BYO. Very disappointing. No longer regulars.

Pizza not great, lovely desserts. The food selection is quite limited, and the pizza chosen wasn't worth the price; soggy, very few ingredients and didn't look great. On the plus side the service was excellent, the desserts look good and the wine list is excellent.

Fantastic restaurant. A far cry from the previous business. Excellent food with reasonable prices, the Bollywood pizza being exceptional, and a great wine list to match. Efficient & friendly staff, a real pleasure. Looking forward to going back for breakfast!

Oh dear. Like Melbourne Moocher I live locally and held high hopes for the new restaurant (we didn't like the predecessor either) so when we went there last Friday we were filled with optimism - but oh dear we were deeply disappointed. I'll ignore the chaotic service after all they've just opened but the food was mediocre and over-priced and and the very limited wine list was ridiculously over-priced. And they don't allow BYO which for a suburban family restaurant is just not on.
I ate chili prawn linguini at $26, try a far, far better tagliatelle with chili & prawn at the Sicilian in Richmond for $20. I drank Tyrells Rufus Stone Shiraz for $44 it's $20 in Dan's . We won't be going back.
