Review Grill'd - Camberwell

Michael Boyer
Don’t usually get a cheese burger but this is top class. Order a huxtaburger and you won’t be disappointed. Fresh and delicious with great sauce

Probably the nicest burger I've had in a long time. Tender meat, delicious soft bun and good greens and veges. It reminded me of the burgers you could get in fish and chip shops which were always very good.
Timothy Mallis
Have been a regular for some time. The standard Huxtaburger is one of the tastiest burgers you can find, and the app has consistently good deals. A local favourite!
Nicholas Jordan
Your delivery timing is truly awful. One hour behind the estimated time. Will go elsewhere from now on. Shame because your burgers are okay, however, there are a lot of other places that make good burgers.

Ordered the Vanilla Thick shake and the Kevin Burger. Was the worst thick shake I’ve ever had in my life, I had one sip and couldn’t bare to see the sight of it anymore. The Burger had grease saturated all over it and was constantly dripping, flavours gross. I greatly regret my decision in going there. Never again.

Went here for a burger with my sister, we could see they were clearly very busy as it was Friday night dins. The blond guy who served us told us it would be 40 min wait as not only were the tables almost all taken, they also had about 20 online orders and he even kindly suggested a few other burger joints close-handy. We decided to order anyway and go for a walk around Hawthorn/Kew area and come back to eat in. When we got back less than 40 min later it was ready and we ordered a drink each, ginger beer and passionfruit kombucha. The guy didn't charge us for the drinks, he said we were the only customers who didn't get angry or rude towards him about the wait!! There must have been more than a few hangry customers abusing the guy and we couldn't believe it. His gesture was so kind and unexpected. I had the Britney burger which was delicious and their chips are excellent, lovely and crispy on the outside. It's great to see these businesses thriving again but no one should ever be rude to staff as they would be stressed out enough as it is.

Had the Huxtaburger, because surely you start with the signature dish. Bun was lightly toasted, patty was juicy, plenty of fillings, but not so over stuffed it was hard to manage eating it.
Kevin Nguyen
Had higher hopes for this place given its reputation I mean it is strikingly similar to Grill'd or any other mid-scale burger joint. While the food was tasty it managed to lack a wow factor which was disappointing It's not bad but its not a standout either. The interior decor was kinda cute to be fair and staff were nice enough
Soul Sista
Ordered a simply grilld burger with a gluten free bun. The bun was a bit thin and I didn't like the taste or texture at all. It kind of ruined the meal for me. The patty and the ingredients were fresh and tasty otherwise.

What can I say except I am so coming back. Grilled Camberwell is exceptionally designed and really has the wow factor. You can sit up the front of the restaurant where the windows are open and you really get the amazing atmosphere of the local shoppers at Camberwell junction. You can also sit to the back of the restaurant where there are booths that can fit up to 8 of your friends. The service was very fast and the burgers tasted fabulous. If you do not like any of the burgers the already make you can construct your own form the wide range of ingredients. It is perfectly positioned right outside one of the 72 route tram stops, so you can just hope of the tram and walk in. Grilled Camberwell is certainly the place to be and I highly recommend it to anyone.

The Grill'd in Camber has an astonishing outdoor patio feeling about it. When the windows are open you get the breeze come in and you can sit, looking out at the road. The burgers are superb and there's so many to choose from. You can't really go wrong with anything you order on their menu.

We love dinning at Grill’d! This time we tried the avocado chips, kids meal and chicken burger. I also love that you can get a glass of wine with your food. Everything was delicious and as always we will definitely visit again.

I’ve never been disappointed in a burger from these guys. I mean, it’s pretty hard to screw it up but the food here is really good. It’s good to be able to have healthy options, and that you can also give back to your community! Great food and good karma!

The best zucchini chips I’ve ever had.I like spicy food so I had ordered hot bird burger and it was so good and spicy. They have many options to choose from. But I would say must try their zucchini chips.
VegoLover
My all time fav vego burger is the mushroom without cheese. So glad they’ve introduced two vegan burgers (cheeseburger & hemp therapea burger). Cheeseburger resembles mackers cheeseburger quite well and good for a quick bite. Hemp therapea is more sophisticated with a thick pattie and more chewing, more filling.
Service here is always very friendly. Even when it’s busy, he waiters can look out for free seats while you queue.

The best burger I've ever had! I especially love their wagyu beef burger with truffle sauce, yummy to the last bite. I didn't really likr their chips though. The cut them a bit too big.

I've been to a few grill'd outlets in my time but I have to say this one has by far been the best, the restaraunt itself is a very rustic and welcoming place and makes you feel that you're in a proper burger joint rather than a chain store.

down to the food, I got the Mighty Melbourne and it was made absolutely perfectly from the grilling of the Beef patty to the fried egg not under but not rubber either, the right amount of beetroot and just enough sauce.... they call Subway employees Sandwich artists but I reckon whoever made my burger is the Artist !!

I will return time and time again as it is down the road from a dance studio my partner goes to and I need a feed whilst I wait.
SeanyB
Great burgers and fries, they feel fairly clean, you don't feel like you've over indulged too much! For a burger joint, it has a nice ambience and plenty of seating inside and out. Families seem to love it.
Jean
Love their field of dreams mushroom burger. It is freshly grilled and very tasty. Some grilled outlets have movie deals too which are really good value.
Food Coma Survivor
Decent chicken Caesar salad, the fried egg was crispy but the yolk wasn't runny. The bowl it came in was really difficult for me to eat in, it was too narrow and I couldn't toss my salad. But then they were really generous with the bacon and cheese. The hot chips were really nice and crunchy. Nothing special for 14$, maybe for a quick bite if you don't have time.

This Grilld is by far the best one I've been to, caters well for families, is always clean and food is delivered quickly and nothing is ever wrong.

Private cosy booths to sit in while you indulge in a hamburger full of flavour and goodness. We always have the Melba burger with a small chips.
The gluten free buns are crunchier and delicious. Staff are attentive and friendly.
Afterwards we try to do a bit of a walk so we feel better for this wonderful indulgence.

Always been a fan of Grill'd since I first visited their restaurant in Perth, three years ago. Since then am sure the chain has only grown bigger & stronger but has been faithful to its flavours, quality and value for money it provides.
Its not easy to not like a burger as an option but its easy to find most burgers being just a stack of meat & bread sans any taste. Grill'd packs punch in terms of their quality of meat, ingredients and flavours.
I am never tired of their MOROCCAN LAMB BURGER. My all time fav..!!
Don't get me wrong, the burgers are great. I always order the same thing. Mighty Melbourne with pineapple, chips and a beer. The last 5 times I've gone they've forgotten the pineapple - I've been coming here on and off for two years, at least once a fortnight. I'm sick of paying the extra $1.50 for pineapple for them just to forget it. I then have to go to the counter, let them know, they come and take the burger back and put it on, bring the burger back and give a thinly veiled apology. Every time. Occasionally I wait for them to come over and ask how everything's going. They often don't come. So then I've got to go through the whole procession. Essentially this joint doesn't care any more. Go to any other Grill'd - next time I'm going to try the one in Hawthorn, see if they know how to put a pineapple ring in a burger.

Came numerous time just to order the crispy bacon and cheese burger and most of the time the meat is beautifully cooked but sometimes it's a hit and miss and end up overcooked~ so a little inconsistent. Great customer service. 🍔

This Grill'd is HUGE! Just need the train station so easy to get to as well. Fast nice and fresh. Like all of their stores you can expect chirpy staff and tasty food. The fries are as always fantastic. If you are looking for a classic try the Simon Says chicken burger or the Garden Goodness veggie burger. Service is fast and they do phone orders for a quick takeaway.
Soulfoodie
Had the smoky black schnitzel burger. Nice balance of flavour, lightly toasted bun with a little crunch and a tasty smoky mayo. Service was friendly and there's lots of space to sit down

Hello there,

Wee wong here... chips chips chips were very VERY SOGGY!!!! Not to my sophisticated palette. I wanted a well cooked burger but was served near raw meat...I DON'T LIKE RAW MEAT!! RACIST!!!! Just because I am Asian doesn't mean I like raw food all the time. My child Kee Wu wong wanted good chips and a mushroom burger but when served the chips were soggy as if they were dipped in a glass of water...not happy child. From what I could tell the manager was on his phone and didn't look interested in his customers in the place at all. SHAMEFUL SHAMEFUL!!! Sending my blessings XOXWEEWONGFU

Grill'd was buzzing tonight, with 20min wait times (for your order to arrive) after securing a table and ordering. There was a BOGOF offer that's why. I haven't been to Grill'd for ages, and our last memory of it was the opening of the Yarraville branch (2012). . Bird & Brie $12.50. Grilled chicken breast, brie cheese, thick cranberry sauce, salad & herbed mayo
Hello World!
Grill'd provides healthy burger to communities, the chain also supports local communities by providing funds from part of your purchase. The store was well designed and attendants are always friendly! The best thing is the Mighty Melbourne burger, since I ate it the first time in 2009, it has became the only burger I pick every time I dine in the restaurant. Not saying that other burgers are not good! Mighty melbourne has big beef patty, beacon and egg, very meaty, but with lots of greens (so your conscious can be balanced), the sesame on the bun kicks with extra deliciousness!

Grill'd burgers are always great, but this place goes above and beyond. Service is exceptional, they are so accommodating and kind. One of the girls chased us down 2 streets to return my daughters jacket we left, and everyone made an effort to say goodbye when we left. Whoever is managing this store, well done!!! You're clearly a superstar at your job!

Unfortunately every time we go to Grill'd in camberwell we are very disappointed. Chips are always cold and soggy not crispy and hot as they should be. Service is always slow for 'fast food'. Steak sandwiches are always overcooked and lacking flavour. Food doesnt come in meals so don't forget to order chips and make sure they dont forget your dips!! We recently discovered Ribs and Burgers in Glenferrie - Perfect food everytime at the same price!!

I got a Norish and Florish burger on a traditional bun to take away. It was fairly busy inside the restaurant, but the staff still managed to get my order in about 10 minutes. Very good customer service. The burger itself was amazing too. It really fills you up and is worth the price you pay. The burger was a little cold by the time I got home (about a 20 minute trip) but nothing a microwave couldn't fix. One of the best Grill'd franchises around
Victoria Strike
Try the Evil Overlord burger with extra oppression. Personally, I like my oppression on the side, but this is Youth Oppression! Delicious! The "I can't believe that's my pay" burger is great if you're the sort of person who enjoys the little luxuries of life, like stiffing those who need it most, and voting for Tony Abbott. And don't forget to order a side - The Capitalist Chips, and Workchoices Wedges will make your heart sing!
Katherine Chiu
Although the food is goo, the staff at Grill'd are underpaid. See here: A Melbourne woman has launched Federal Court action against fast-food company Grill'd, alleging she lost her job after complaining about being underpaid.
Virginia Burelli
It was probably the best burger I have had at Grilled and I have been to a few! The staff were friendly and accommodating. I requested for our burgers to be kept away from the bacon and they took special care to cook it on a separate grill. I really appreciate the courtesy.
Merlin
Unfortunately I have to agree with a lot of the other reviews. The burgers and chips are fine. It's just that they're really expensive. It's kind of stuck between cheap fast food burgers and really upmarket burgers.
Chanos
What the hell was this. This is a $12 burger and it didn't even fill me up. the ingredients are "gourmet" but really the quality of the ingredients is marginally better than other burger shops which do it for cheaper. If I wanted a cheap burger I'd go to a fast food chain but if I wanted a cheaper, better, gourmet burger I'd go to Huxtaburger or Mr Burger because Grill'd is just shithouse value for money. I had their mustard burger and it was just ok. Never coming here ever again!!!
Happy bunch of staff and consistent quality.. Grill'd are always a favourite of ours. Burgers and chips never disappoint. The abundant staff means timely service. Big place with lots of seats. Mustard & Pickle, Hot Chicka (spicy) and the Mighty Burger are awesome. The restaurant can be a bit foggy at times due to the "Grill".

Great burgers, generous size. The herbed Mayo was a highlight as well as the seasoning on the chips. I got the dijonaise and pickle burger which came with lovely fresh ingredients and hit the spot. Loved the big, thickly sliced pickles. Very friendly girl at the counter and food arrived quickly. Will be back!

Freakin awesome burgers and I love sweet potato with sweet chili sauce. Just awesome. Not sure why rating are low but I like burgers here very much and a regular customer.

Lift your game Grill'd!. Normally don't mind the odd Grill'd burger as I don't think they vary much from store to store however I won't be returning to Grill'd Camberwell.
My friend and I ordered 2 burgers and 2 serves chips however when the order was brought to us only my friend received his chips and the staff member said nothing to me and walked off. I assumed the chips had been forgotten (my order has been messed up before at Grill'd Southbank/Melb Central) and went up to the counter. Staff members made direct eye contact with me and chose to ignore me although the store was not at all busy and most staff members were standing around chatting. After a good 2 minutes of awkwardly standing at the counter someone finally came up and asked what I wanted, I was then told they had not forgotten the chips they just weren't ready yet. Would have been nice to be told that by the person who brought me my order. Burger's were overcooked also. Not an enjoyable experience thanks to the rude staff. Will not be going back.

The Grill’d chain seems to be taking over Melbourne and it is easy to see why. Catering for people who love burgers but feel bad when they have them (I can certainly identify with this!), Grill’d is a burger chain that serves delicious and most importantly, healthy burgers. They also have a nice range of salads that are really healthy. What a brilliant concept! Locations:

Very Poor Service. The staff at Grill'd Camberwell have gotten my order wrong before- and neglected to remove ingredients I was allergic too, which is frustrating but forgivable; but the last time I went there they forgot my order entirely. I was standing opposite the counter and after fifteen minutes (the store at this point had completely emptied out, and the staff were standing around chatting) I asked what the hold up was; but they'd simply forgot. The food they gave me had obviously been sitting there for the time I was waiting, it was cold, and their only compensation aside from a half-hearted apology was two extra dips thrown in the bag, which served absolutely no purpose as I'd already paid for a dip and only had one small serve of chips! If they'd offered the random sauces at least I could have declined. Lift your game Grill'd Camberwell.

Go to Grill'd Hawthorn instead.

Gluten-free friendly. Rather than having to disappear into the kitchen for ten minutes to find out whether something was gluten free, the waitress was able to tell me immediately. Definitely gluten free friendly. Also yummy.

Mighty Melbourne. Awesome!! Especially with the Corona, large chips & herb mayo

Fresh, vibrant chicken salad and yummy sliders were a highlight. New renovated dining area makes it more spacious when eating in. Handy highchairs for littlies.

Good burgers, but..... The burgers were excellent and the chips were sensational.

But nearly $70 for essentially four burgers and four soft drinks - especially when two of the younger members of the party had the kids options? Well, they weren't THAT good.

Burger patty lost amidst everything else. I grew up eating fast-food hamburgers in the U.S., back in the days before there were chains selling more upscale burgers. They’re a food that brings back fond memories, so I’m always curious to try the zeitgeist at other franchise burger operations. This Grill’d across from the Canterbury train station seems to be going for the “hip youth” vibe, judging from cartoon-style artwork on the wall, along with Grill’ds perky, semi-ironic product descriptions, sign lettering, logos, etc. But this is a restaurant review website, not a place for style critiques, so on to the flavour.

Frankly, the lamb burger I had got lost amongst everything else. It was on the smallish size, maybe less than 200 grams, nit quite filling the ciabatta-style roll. That was good bread, BTW, with a lot of character for a white-flour product. There were ample veggie toppings between the slices (the mayo/pickle relish/over-macerated dill sauce had a too-strong flavour) so the patty was overwhelmed. The best thing about Grill’d was the chips -- nicely-cooked, slab-shaped fat ones, coated with a rosemary and salt mix. They stood out to my tastebuds more than the meat.

My only gripe with Grill’d, as I have with a lot of pseudo-fancy food establishments in Australia, is the prices. The burger was $12.50, regular chips are $4.50, and by time I added a bottle of soda, this basic and not-too-filling meal cost me more than $21! And forget buying a beer with the burger -- another $7 or $8. Next time I have that childhood longing for a hamburger, I’m going to remember that ethnic joints like pho shops or kebab stands are just as satisfying for about 33% less money.

I always liked Mighty Melbourne until I tried Pickle n Roast just across the road. They have Aussie Burger on their menu which is very similar to the Mighty Melbourne combination! However, it tastes much better and a dollar less expansive! Staffs there are very friendly as well. All these attributes make Pickle n Roast a wiser option if you are after a great tasting burger.

Always reliable. Grill'd Camberwell is always a solid choice if you're looking for a quick burger! The staff are all really friendly, especially the Manager Petros, the service is great and so is the food, cannot complain. I'd definitely recommend giving it a go!
Jonathon Sciola
I really like the renovation and the gluten free options. Friday night was pumping the school kids behind the counter were getting slammed. My takeaway steak sandwich took 30 minutes to make (I timed it as I was late for my movie) which is acceptable for peak times however they could have said 30 minute wait when I asked rather than 10. Quality wasn't compromised so its all okay.
Jacinta Kilmartin
So-so. Can vary a lot, but overall not too bad. Edible. Great chips every time.

Burger Specialists!. As a lover of healthy food and quality Grill'd meets all my criteria.

I have eaten at over 10 different Grill'd franchises across the state and i have nothing but high regard for the Camberwell store as an industry leader in Quality burgers and in my opinion the best Grill'd store in Victoria. With the rumour that the Camberwell store is looking to expand i can only see positive progression.

Large menu options, friendly staff, portions leaving you feeling satisfied and the presentation 10/10 among restaurants in the area.

I loved the burger but the service wasn't great.

Went last night. And there was a girl working with two pony tails coming out of her bandanna drooping down onto the production area. not nice.

For a chain burger shop, this place is amazing. Grill'd Camberwell makes consistently great, well- cooked burgers all oozing with delicious flavours. I go back time and time again
Kenneth Jones
Yummy and friendly staff!. Friendly staff! Yummy food! Keep up the good work! My kids cant stop begging me for Grill'd!
R M
Beats mcdonalds. Fast and better tasting food then a normal takeaway burger place
Greg H
Best chain burgers. These burgers are just amazing. so many flavours, vegie options, best chips around (although sauce servings are tiny!). All that's missing is a kangaroo burger option!
John Boxall
Spot on. Stopped in for a later lunch. Chicken and brie burger a little light on the cheese, otherwise fine. Chips perfect as always. Major gripe with the volume of the music - way too loud.
[edit - June 12] Still drop in here now and again for a burger. Food always good, but the music - ugh, turn it down.
C M
...if they get it right.. Put simply, Grill'd is pretty good. They were the first to bring proper local-style hamburgers into the fast food arena. The ingredients are Australian and the result is enjoyable. Their chips are good when fresh, but go soggy easily. They are community minded, supporting Movember as well as local charities and groups.
My issue, then, is the success rate with which they deliver your order. They have made errors on three from the four orders we've placed. It can be as simple as forgetting the chips and not giving a dipping sauce that was ordered (and paid for) to giving a lamb burger instead of a chicken burger. In their defence, they replaced the burger.
It frustrates me that Burger Edge shut down, so the options are Hungry Jacks (which has the same, if not worse strike rate as Grill'd) or paying far too much for a restaurant burger. If you're after a burger, don't go to Camberwell. Head to East Hawthorn Fish and Chips or the like.
Xiu Wen
Alright.. It was okay. Better than McDonalds, but restaurant quality. My chicken was burnt and my bun tasted dry... Other restaurants around Camberwell could do bit better..
Ozmum
Guten reaction too. I was so excited about being able to get a gluten free burger bun but also have had a reaction to gluten, Bummer.
Must be something in the 100% melbourne burger or just some of those gluten crumbs - though I usually need a full dose to get a reaction.
Ghede
Disappointing. Their supposedly "big" burgers are simply average in size (can find considerably bigger ones at most fish and chip joints).
I had the blue cheese chicken one (I forget the name). The bun was dry, which matched the chicken. Which was also burned. I couldn't taste the blue cheese (was it even blue cheese?).
A very middle of the road experience.
Elnuno
Great burgers... Even better fries.
Charlie
NOT gluten-free friendly.. I am a coeliac and was super happy when I saw on Grill'd's menu that they had Gluten-free buns. Got a little IRRITATED when it said below *may contain traces of gluten.

Thought I'd give them the benefit of the doubt and try it anyway. Was a delicious burger ... felt sick as a dog afterwards.

I have a friend who works there too, and she said that Grill'd don't educate their staff about Gluten-free food at all, so their buns are prepared and toasted on the same chopping boards and in the same toasters as the regular ones. Their "gluten-free" buns are littered with GLUTEN CRUMBS. Yeeearrrgggh..

It just bugs me cos it feels like a waste ... why go a little gluten free when you could go ALL gluten free?

Angry. Hangry (hungryangry).
The Hungry Badger
About the only franchise around where you'll get a "real" burger. Big serves, awesome chips and more flavour than you can poke a stick at.

Love the chips these guys make yummy though this one is loud as all hell
