Review The Reserve Cafe - Camberwell

Diane Lucas
Dined here on the 26th November. The customer service was excellent. I was very impressed with all the components of the menu that we sampled. The chicken and corn chowder was an enjoyable start to the night as was the bruschetta with caramelised onion and goats cheese. There were many appealing options on the menu but the chicken scallopini was to die for, beautifully presented and extremely tasty. The portions were generous. The cakes on display were very temping at the beginning of the night but sampling them will have to wait for another time. I am sure the home- made sponge with passionfruit icing would be a firm favourite. It looked so light and fluffy – absolutely divine.

Good service, great coffee, extensively impressive menu with solid home-made food every day. Daily specials that are sure to satisfy. Come on Thursday for Burger day. This is my regular.

There's potential. Fantastic coffee and Matcha latte. Combo of Allpress coffee beans and La Marzocco. Needs to tune up the Menu though; a bit boring and ordinary, also lacking in seasoning, poached eggs lost its vinegar taste too.

4 star for the coffee! It’s my favorite coffee in the area. The staff are very welcoming and always didn’t forget to have a chat with you when you walked in.

Nice café with friendly staff. I had the chicken and chorizo risotto during lunchtime which was a special on the day. I took it away so it's not a fantastic picture but it was very good. My only complaint is that even though it said chicken and chorizo risotto, there was no trace of chicken and it was actually a bacon and chorizo risotto. No biggie but if I could make a suggestion, I would have loved for the bacon and chorizo to be a bit crispier. However, I had a good amount of bacon and chorizo and I enjoyed the risotto and the napoli sauce. The prices here are incredibly good especially for the portions.

Came here on a groupon voucher for both breakfast and lunch. Breakfast wS okay, portion was huge. Coffee was a bit weak. Lunch wasn’t nice. I had the chicken breast and there was hardly any chicken breast, just mostly rissoto. The chips on the side were tasteless.

Very friendly and polite service, lovely cappuccinos here. Not overly busy cafe for a Saturday morning, booked through a Groupon voucher. Had breakfast here with poached eggs, bacon, tomato, mushrooms, chorizo, tasty deep fried home made potato cake ( kids loved these). Breakfast was presented nicely and tasted ok. We all ordered with poached eggs but 2 meals came with scrambled eggs. They were happy to fix it to poach as they realised their mistake. Service was quick. Came back with only 1 slice of toast with it everyone else had 2 slices. Kids had caramel milkshakes which they enjoyed. Unfortunately the service in clearing the tables was a big let down we sat there for sometime with dirty plates while one of the waiters stood by watching everyone. When the tables were finally cleared he scraped all the food from the plates onto another plate in front of my husband. Didn't find that very pleasant. Large room out the back I assume for larger functions if looking for something along those lines.

As a few other reviews have mentioned, I'm not sure this cafe has the rating it does. I have been here several times before and always had an extremely positive experience. Food is always tasty, service is very friendly and the man who has been there every time I have been is very welcoming. Prices are also very reasonable!

Best coffee in Camberwell by far and I have tried a lot! Lovely staff, very accommodating and welcoming. They are also licensed for a quick drink after work.

Very friendly staff, not long to wait for coffee or food. Had the reserve breakfast, everything in it was cooked perfectly and good portion size. The potato cake was different and great. Would highly recommend. The rating of 2.7 is very much undeserved.

Lovely place. After leaving Legacy up the road with resentment, we popped in this cafe for the first time. An example of don't judge a book by it's cover. The service was fast and friendly and the food was tasty. Good portion for the price, too. Will go back again.

Friendly service, great coffee! I started going here because I was doing a short course down the road, and my order was known off by heart after two visits.

Reasonable prices, good food and friendly service. The coffee is strong just the way I like it. I would visit again when in the area ........
Came here for a late brunch, and had a good time. The cafe is small, but we just beat the lunch rush, and so were easily seated (there also appears to be a seating area in the back of the cafe past the kitchen too). The environment is warm and appealing, and all the food on display looked delicious.

The coffee was great (I had a mocha which came with chocolate shavings - super delicious, but don't be fooled into eating them off - they are needed to sweeten the coffee!), and was relatively quick to come out.

Obviously the food took a bit longer to come out, and I had 'the reserve breakfast', which was very generous in its portions of chorizo and bacon. Unfortunately, I think there was just too much chorizo, and the bacon was a bit undercooked for me (and together, both provided too much salt to the overall meal). The mushrooms were tasty, but I loved the tomato (probably one of the best elements on the dish!). The potato cake was another highlight, which though did not look like the classic fish and chips potato cake, definitely had the same salty flavour on the first bite. Though the eggs were well-cooked (still soft on the inside), I personally found that they had too much vinegar (you could smell/taste it when eating).

My friend had the mushroom medley breakfast, which was definitely underwhelming compared to the reserve breakfast (if you are hungry, definitely choose that one!), however it was still tasty, and I was able to share my overabundance of meat with her.

The service was friendly, the wait was okay (not the fastest nor the slowest service - though I do understand the lunch crowd was just beginning as we ordered our meals), and the price was very reasonable for what we received.

Went here on a Groupon and certainly won't be back. The waitress and the barista were friendly but it is the owner or manager (I assume) that made us feel unwelcome. The food was was bland in my opinion and it was a disappointing experience. Will not return.

Lovely set up, gorgeous decor.
Server extremely friendly and very attentive.
Meals served quickly and presented beautifully.

We were given a Groupon Christmas voucher for The Reserve and very happy. Definitely would recommend and would return.

Parking would be a downside when busy and must be paid for. Though we had no problem on a Saturday night and it was free in those times.

There's potential......

The only thing I don't like is parking, near Camberwell junction too.

$6.00 Matcha latte is pricey, I said too sweet, not enough powder, my date said NO.
Fantastic coffee, combo of Allpress coffee beans and La Marzocco.

Food wise, it needs to tune up the Menu as it is a bit boring and ordinary, also lacking in seasoning, poached eggs lost its vinegar taste too/bland.

I tried the reserve for the first time on Saturday and the food was great, freshly cooked very tasty and well presented. The waiters were attentive and service was good. The cafe looked to have been recently decorated. Overall a good meal and great value we will certainly be going back.
