☆彡 Located right at the entrance of Camberwell Food Market, this cafe is small and cozy with high quality “baked selections” AND dine-in Asian meal options :) we ordered the Salmon quiche and Pie!
☆The good:
- quiche pastry is flaky and delicious; ample salmon immersed with the egg mixture of the quiche; i do not usually like fish flavoured baked goods but this was very nice and not “weird fishy flavour” at all
- service is friendly
☆ Not so good:
- portions seemed on the smaller side for what we ordered, but not sure for the actual meals
Overall, i would return to try the tempting salads and pokebowls!!! ^_- ~
Butter chicken rice bowl was magnificent! Great service with great price, under 15 dollars. The peanut butter hot chocolate was very special.

Two years ago we lived in Camberwell, and Butter Dish was on the to eat list. Since then we've moved, a lot, but one day we finally made it! A murky humid summers day. Located next to the market it smells like the butchery outside. Seating about 14 it's a very small cute cafe with an all day breakfast menu. They do peanut butter hot chocolate and nutella cappuccinos! Alas it was too sweltering and we had a lovely housemade juice.
If you love butter, this should be the next place on your list!
They're not lying when they say that with enough butter, everything is good - its truly butterlicious.
Butter chicken was very smooth, and of course, buttery. And coconut rice with turmeric chicken was also amazing. Must go!
If you love quiche then you owe it to yourself to have a bacon and leek quiche at Butter Dish! And don’t get me started on the egg and bacon sandwiches! Huge flavour! I’m yet to try the vibrant salads. Great staff, fantastic vibe, super tunes! You’ll catch me at Butter Dish regularly reading the paper and watching the World go by.
This unassuming cafe is a hidden gem in Camberwell. They have the friendliest family-friendly team offering attentive service and lots of (genuine) smiles and chats. The coffee is always good and there's a number of vegan and vegetarian options, including a fresh range of rotating salads plus made to order food. My last visit saw me ordering the last of the two salads left for the day - eggplant with pomegranate and yoghurt and a chopped slaw and noodle with tofu. They even added extra tofu to make it a meal. Also got a crispy spanikopita turnover. It was very slightly greasy but not overly so, and head great flavour.
Butter Dish was actually quite nice. I always dismissed it thinking it was just a tiny shop doing salads and sandwiches at the front but it’s got an actual kitchen at the back and the serve other things so I decided to pay them a visit. I ordered myself a Poke bowl. It was nicely presented (though not very large). Taste was great. All the goodies it came with were nice and fresh. Lots of fish roe, crisp beans, and a delicious creamy sauce. Once mixed, lots of umami going on. Coffee was good. Staff was friendly. I would be back.
Tasty & healthy food and drink options with extremely friendly service! Definitely recommend!! Love their matcha iced latte. Will try the poké bowls next time.
Small little cafe outside Camberwell market. We enjoyed fabulous homemade egg and bacon quiche. Oh my, they were delicious!! Great coffee and a good range of lunch special dishes and ready made salads etc. Recommended.
What can I say probably one of the best cafes i have ever been too. The coffee was fantastic. Those quiches were absolutely beautiful and the slices also. I am not from the area, however i will make sure that when i am in the area next to come visit. The customer service is fantastic also!! :)
Officially listed as my top ten cafe options! No doubt!!
This little cafe next to the Camberwell market has a stylish white interior, and wears a beautiful coffee aroma once you step in. Coffee are rich, and the hot chocolate is richer. While all cafe would have poach eggs and smashed avo, Butter Dish offers perfect balance of taste with twists - snow pea leaves salad, omelette with apple and ginger, avocado matches with paneer cheese. It's like dishes you can explore (oh yes, I'm bored with going into Brunch and you can order with close eyes, very bored), and find unexpected ingredients like Furikake seasoning in it.
Their pastries are home-made too. It's a welcoming change to ensure you don't see the same (again, boring) options over and over again.
PS. I'm serious - if you are a hot choc fan, the peanut butter hot chocolate is a must-must!
Great coffee and fusion cafe food. Interesting and delectable menu. Had the salad plate and CharSiu (Bbq pork) brioche.
Not overcrowded and great service.
My favourite baked eggs! This place is one of my favourite in serving baked eggs after trying out most baked eggs around town. The staff is always accommodating and let me change the goats cheese to tasty cheese. It is not an overly busy restaurant so food gets delivered quite quickly.
I went here with my Mum today because the Baker's Wife was closed. When we went to sit down we noticed a cigarette butt under the table which was inside the tiny cafe, I don't think a customer would have gotten away with smoking therefore it was probably one of the staff smoking inside or it came in on someone's shoe, they cleaned it up for us. I ordered the beef tortilla which was nice but it was all filled at the top. I also ordered 3 salads; I got the broccoli with garlic sauce which was very bland, the eggplant salad which was nice and the pumpkin salad which was spectacular and full of flavour I would come back here just for the pumpkin salad. Mum had the salmon quiche which she really liked. After that we got a take away chocolate and pear muffin which was yummy and a carrot and walnut cake I only tried a tiny bit and I didn't like it that much. The staff were friendly enough. Due to the small size of the venue I think this place is more suited for take away or a quick bite on your lunch break rather then a slow lunch with friends and family.
This place makes my day - I found it accidentally one morning when I wanted to get a juice before work and found out they do Green Tea Soy Lattes which are delicious! And to top it off they have the best Danish I've ever had in my life: Mushroom, Cheese and Caramelised Onions with Buttery Pastry, yumm! Staff are always lovely as well!
I love this cafe! The young, small, cute barista who takes my coffee order always delivers! She never has ceased to disappoint me in my orders! The atmosphere in Butter Dish is ideal for the uni student who wants to window watch and to study. The customer service is friendly, food is delicious and the hot beverages always hits the spot! On top of that the community around this cafe is cosy, almost feeling like home as the regulars from the market come by to have a coffee and a chat. If you get the chance I recommend this cafe! Want a light and healthy bite to eat? Have the salad! Want something naughty, sweet and nice? Have the lovely cakes and buttery pastries! Want a nice hot beverage? Anything the little barista makes will never disappoint! I definitely recommend this place!
Came down for a feed with the family to see what all the fuss is about. All our orders were spot on and tasty. I was a bit upset that my dish was not made from butter but overall a great meal.
Was drawn to this little cafe by the picture on the zomato page with the donuts & thought it would be rude not to stop by and sample them. Safe to say they did not disappoint. Coffee was a bit also. Two thumbs up!
We stumbled across this lovely little cafe for lunch on Sunday. Doesn't look much from the outside but the food was amazing and the girls were lovely. Smashed avocado was delicious. Pork neck was different and yum! Hard decision to choose a sweet as they all looked amazing but we shared the maple pineapple cake which was lovely. Will definitely return!
We LOVE this little cafe ….consistently good …. great coffee ….friendly staff.
Fabulous healthy options available - personally the Salmon Salad is a favourite!
Sometimes it's hard to get a seat, but that says plenty about how popular it's proving ….!!!
Highly recommended.
Yum! Great food, great chai and a great shop fit out! Healthy options as well as naughty ones. Everything looks and tastes homemade and the plating is beautifully done.
I've been to this place couple times mostly for takeaway coffee and their delicious almond croissants. This morning I have the time to sit and order croissant French toast with rhubarb and panna cotta. It was delicious. Staff are lovely, good price.
The food is top quality and at a good price. I went for breakfast with friends early on a Sunday so we managed to get a table easily. I ordered eggs with a side of avocado on seeded bread. The avocado mash was delicious, with a hint of lemon/lime. I imagine it would fill up easily, given it is a small space. At least it should!! Will be back
I went to the Butter Dish for brunch on a fairly warm saturday afternoon, when it first opened and was quite delighted upon seeing the menu. My hubby and I ordered eggs on toast with a separate side of mushrooms and haloumi, along with hot chocolate and a mocha on the side. While the eggs were amazing, well presented delishness on a plate and those mushrooms were beautiful, the food took around 45 minutes to an hour to arrive at the table. Obviously, we understood that it was a new place and it would take some time before service would adjust to the momentum of a usual cafe as they were just finding their feet. However, one of our guests who was present at that time did not understand at all and threw a tantrum, refusing to recommend this place to anyone she knew. Ever since, it has been upon me to help the Butter Dish gain more public favour. I am sure service is a lot faster now and I can't wait to visit once more! I tried convincing a few colleagues at work to go there, as our workplace is just down Camberwell road and it's a short distance from it. Sadly, every time I convince them to go, they get turned off by the fact that the door is always left open. While this would be alright for bigger cafes with more space, it really isn't working for a small cafe where you would end up shivering through the constant draft coming through the door. It would work great during summer though! So please Butterdish.. don't leave the door open on cold days! Maybe have a few vents to circulate the air or heating or an exhaust to help with ventilation when the door is closed?
This is a great little place, especially during the week it's not too busy (I sat here and worked for two hours). The tea was lovely and beautifully presented, I ordered Crushed avocado dish which was so delicious! I'll definitely be back.
The coffee at Butter Dish was amazing and I loved the French Toast! It looked amazing and tasted even better! Will definitely return again!
I recently received an invite to dine at Butter Dish Eatery and decided that since I had a day off last Friday, I'd take a slow drive down for brunch with my friend, R. Butter Dish Eatery is conveniently located right next door to the Camberwell Market on the Riversdale Road front. There are heaps of 2P free parking at the market, or if you're catching the train, Butter Dish is only a short 10 minutes walk from the Camberwell station. I was instantly attracted to the array of the pastries and sweet treats on display upon entering the cafe. Good lord, don't you agree with me that it all looks very alluring? The greedy pig in me wanted one each of everything! :P When I was provided the menu to peruse, the one item that really stood out on the menu was this: Peanut butter hot chocolate with crushed maltesers!!! I know I know, it is so very naughty but damn, it was deliciously indulgent! I've never had a hot chocolate this luscious before, seriously. Every mouthful was an absolute delight! Whoever invented this bomb is a genius! Peanut butter + chocolate + maltesers = LOVE!! Seriously, I have not stopped raving about it. I tell everyone I see about how it's the best hot choc I've ever had, and I highly recommend you give it a try too. Your waistline might not be too pleased, but upon the first sip, you will thank me for it. Yep, you're welcome! ;) Moving onto food, we started first with savoury - the sautéed mushrooms and chives, sitting atop a hidden poached egg on Noisette brioche toast, and finished with grated Parmesan cheese. Oh my, it arrived smelling out of the world delicious!! I can assure you, this dish tastes just as delicious as it looks.
Organic salads, home-baked cakes, and the croissant French toast with Rose Pannacotta keeps me coming back for more...
Avocado Haloumi on Toast. Preserved lemons in the avocado mash gives the most unusual zing to it.
Winner. Good to see this newbie on the block has hit urbanspoon. I had a lovely smoked salmon breakfast here a few weeks ago - given the price I must say I was surprised and delighted with the quantity of lovely delicate fish that landed on my plate! The service was prompt and the decor in this little gem was fresh and bright. I have been hoping for nice additions with the Camberwell market renno - wasn't expecting one quite this nice though :)
Great coffee!!! Good place to stop for a break after shopping at Camberwell
Market.
So good! The Malaysian garlic butter chicken with rice is a must! Everything I’ve tried from here has been really tasty and well packed. Hopefully more items will be added on the menu.
Small little cafe serving variety of both western and Asian food! Love it
Little cafe outside Camberwell Market, great coffee and smoothies. Tasty snacks with a handful of tables to sit and relax. The salads are really good and staff friendly
I've been ordering lunch through ubereats. Absolutely love the food. The chai tea is yummm, best I've had. I've tried the beef rendang pie, the spicy chicken, the laksa. Others in my group orders have tried the Tom yum fried rice, the chicken sandwich and the terriyaki chicken bowl and they loved it. Will be ordering again - hopefully Ubereats don't delay my order again.
Absolutely delicious curry chicken, perhaps the best I've ever eaten! Will definitely be coming back. Great coffee and fried rice too.
Love their peanut butter hot choc w/ crushed Maltesers! The chilli they had for lunch during 2016 was so good that to this day I still remember how tasty it was, haha. Homemade bacon & leek quiche is always a fave.
For me the food is always delicious. Love the food and the people. They are the kindest, most generous people ever! They always go above & beyond for my husband and I. So glad they're still open during this difficult time.
We came back to Butter Dish after a while, the quality of the food was just as great as our previous visit.
The thai prawn omellette was exceptionally amazing oozing with flavour complimented with the right amount of apple and chilli slivers.
The soft scrambled with caramelized onions on a brioche bun was filled with flavour and did not disappoint.
The salads that are made here are some of the best you can get in Melbourne. All packed with flavour and the right combinations.
The staff are extremely friendly and provide excellent service to make the time at the eatery pleasant and warm.
The coffees are also well made.
