The food was so good! Very nice. Would recommend. Love the new interior design and decorations. The service is amazing and attentive. Everyone is welcoming and the restaurant provides an excellent atmosphere.
Stunning food. Sashimi very fresh. Great value for money. Not a massive menu but everything delicious and service fast. Steak super tender and beef carpaccio melted in the mouth. I’m from Perth and I wish they’d expand to WA!
Great quality japanese food and at a great price. Would highly recommend and will be a return customer.
Really enjoyed the miso steak and sashimi
Great value for money. We ate soooo much!! For the price we paid, this was definitely well worth the trip to Camberwell for a decent Japanese feast. I don't even need to post photos for this one, as the menu is pretty standard and everyone eats the same thing. Expect standard and normal Japanese street food, nothing too fancy, and you will not be disappointed. The food comes out hot and freshly cooked, the only problem is probably the fact that the waiters and waitresses were sooooo busy that they were not quick enough to come back to our table for us to order more, although it may have been their strategy to let the food settle in our stomachs so we don't eat as much!
So here is my tip: Order as much as you possibly can the first time they come to take your orders, because it may be a while before they come back!! Pile up your table with food and enjoy your feast!
Thoroughly enjoyed the food though service was a bit slow in the end. Reasonable corkage and prices were fantastic for food. Would go back though, for sure. The entrees were amazing.
actually cannot fault Okami! WOW i was so impressed that for such a small price, we could have so much food!!! ALL YOU CAN EAT! an amazing Japanese cuisine that melts in your mouth! my mum, brother and i were super impressed with the food as it all tasted so good!!! the staff were so nice and were able to tell us what gluten-free options we could have and there were heaps! i love how you can order anything you want, and once finished you can just keep ordering more it was awesome! definitely worth going again! 👌🏼😍🇯🇵🥢
Terrific food and service! Especially the service, which is very timely and enthusiastic. The waitress of our tatami room is gorgeous and professional. Definitely a perfect place for Japanese Buffet. Strongly recommanding Beef Capaccio and Tempura Prawn Sushi Roll~ Price is acceptable, 32.8 per person for original dining, 36.8 per person for tatami room experience. And they have kid price and senior price as well. The quality of sashimi is average but fresh, considering the price, I think they did a great job though, and my friends did enjoy this All YOU CAN EAT TOUR~ LOL
You can't find many Japanese all you can eat around melbourne which can service decent quality food at a reasonable price. Okami camberwell proved it might be possible. Run by chinese this joint is popular amongst students.
As a big group we ordered one full round of all the food on the menu and by the 2nd round everyone just gave up. Food comes out rather quickly with the exception of the sushi. Main favourites was the chicken karage which was juicy, wagu chopped steak was not bad, tempura nicely fried and dumplings. You will find most are fried or pan fried. The only let down was the sushi which isn't of high quality but you can't expect too much. At least they give you a reasonable amount as opposed to other places which would come up with all sorts of excuses to not serve it to you or slow it down deliberately. Also bonus is green tea ice cream and BYO red wine at $5 a bottle to polish your night off.
It's worth a visit once in a while, one of the better all you can japanese eats in melbourne.
Been here twice and both times I used the groupon voucher. The food is ok but definitely worth the value. It was my first time having beef carpaccio and it was melting in my mouth and the seaweed salad is very good. But the other dishes are very average
This review is for the one in Camberwell. There are several locations for this restaurant. We will try Hampton next as that is closer to where we live
What a wonderful treat this restaurant was when my daughter and I went with a Groupon. We LOVE Japanese food and everything we had was delicious.
We did the 'all you can eat' which is normally $30 per person and includes either a sake/soft drink /or wine. Then you just order plates of what you want. The best part is the serving size of the plates means you don't get filled up with just one or two plates, so you can order a variety of food.
First up we ordered the tempura, gyoza and seared beef (can't remember the name but you can see it in the photo of the three plates). The beef melted in my mouth and the flavours balanced well. The tempura was light and not oily and the prawn also melted in my mouth (not rubbery). The gyoza was our least favourite, but not because it was bad, just because it wasn't fantastic. But still was good.
Next we had the chicken katsu and more tempura. The batter on the chicken was also light and not oily. Perhaps the biggest treat for us was finally getting to try green tea ice cream and black sesame ice cream. We liked both of them! Sorry the photo was taken after we had dug in to the dessert :-)
I see the other comments were a bit negative on the service. Yes they don't rush to your table but I think that is more of a 'give you space' sort of cultural thing. They were always 'looking' and if we wanted something all we had to do was look up and we'd catch their eye quickly and they would come and take our order. The food would come very shortly after that. They were polite as well.
We definitely will make this our regular Japanese hang out. It's a good sign when you're the minority and the majority of the patrons are Japanese.
Came here with a groupon voucher. All you can eat menu and decent amount of seating. Dishes come out relatively quick and service is average. Ordered a few dishes, Sashimi is average but cut too thick. Sushi is good, though it came out as a different variant each time. Well presented dishes and much better interior than the Wantirna branch. Takoyaki is filling and soft. Gyoza has a crispy skin but the filling is mushy. Tonkatsu has a think batter and the sauce is too salty. Udon is bland so don't recommend that. Sesame ice cream is 1 per person but the rest are unlimited.
Went here for the group on deal for an all you can eat and sake for 27.50. The restaurant wasn't crowded or over encumbered. Other criticism of this restaurant was very fair, staff are often inattentive and it's best to ask them for courses when they bring you food, timing seems to be key. They do often look flustered, annoyed or run off quickly. The food was semi fresh, its wise to avoid some dishes such as the calamari and the tofu which I would put in the weird category. Portions are small and full of rice. Ice cream, soba noodles and tempura was delicious and flavourful.
All the food we had was fantastic. The sushi was really fresh, the must try's are probably the beef carpaccio (tataki), the chicken karaage and the surprising hit was the eggplant! So delicious! Service was relatively friendly. Deal is incredibly cheap. Only issue was that when we got there they didn't have our booking, they had a spare table so it was fine but I shudder to think what would have happened if they didn't have a spare. The wine was also just simply "red or white" but the food was fantastic and made up for all that.
Cool little sushi joint in Camberwell.
It is what it is, $30 all you can eat sushi!
There's a decent range of different type of items you can order off the 'all you can eat' menu.
If you're a big eater, this is the place for you!
For several months now, I have been wanting to try out Okami's Japanese Restaurant's all you can eat. I was curious about how the logistics of it will go. Will it be smorgasbord style? Would it involve just sushi? As it turned out, it was per head cost ($29.80) and you order as you would normally do at an a la carte restaurant and the kitchen brings it to your table and you are welcome to continually order if you wish. I would consider this quite good value for the price, especially for you big eaters! Okami does attract long queues on a Friday night so be prepared to line up or dine early.
FASTER FINER FOOD REVIEW
+5
WOW, this place is PERFECT in everyway from start to finish. EVERYTHING was absolutely fresh and first class. all you can eat for $28 a head, the food comes fast and beautifully presented. I wish I lived closer because I would go once a week. HIGHLY RECOMMEND, you will thank me if you go. LOVED IT!!!!!
Our group had dinner here last night, some of us elected to do "all you can eat" whilst the rest of us ordered singular dishes. The quality of the food was satisfactory and value for money, however there was room for improvement in prompt customer service department, perhaps it was understaffed.
The Okami Restaurant chain has grown in recent years, and their Camberwell restaurant is one of their best establishments! Located on bustling Burke Road, you can park for free on a nearby residential street or choose from ample pay parking.
The restaurant is spread over two levels of a heritage terrace building, and each space is tastefully decorated. If you have a group, we recommend you book the private dining area upstairs for a truly special experience (but make sure you're wearing a good pair of socks as you'll need to remove your shoes!!).
We were greeted by a lovely young lady who showed us to our table upstairs. The downstairs area was packed which is always a great sign.
Feeling gluttonous since the freezing weather blew into town, our party of 5 ordered everything on the menu & shared each dish amongst ourselves. It was so great to introduce our favourite dishes to our friends who were not familiar with Japanese cuisine beyond teriyaki chicken or sushi, and the Okami restaurants always turn out an excellent spread of authentic cuisine.
Highlights were the beef tataki (carpaccio), takoyaki (octopus balls), miso beef, tempura prawns & black sesame ice cream.
Despite the crowd, service was very friendly & efficient, and nothing was too much to ask - one waitress even graciously took our group photo for us with our table covered in a delicious feast!
Having tried every item on the menu, it was impossible to fault anything.
The amenities were very clean despite the large amount of patrons using them, and the dining areas were also very clean and tidy. Noise was not an issue as the dining areas are carpeted and the crowd is quite genteel. The space was nice and warm too.
We were able to park our friends' pram downstairs without issue.
We highly recommend this restaurant for large family gatherings. You can expect excellent food and friendly, efficient service at a very generous price.
For all you can eat: You get what you pay for, and this place is the true definition of it. Won't complain so much, because it is indeed cheap and service was much better than many places I've visited, with a wave of hand the waiters take notice, no constant staring at you, but not unresponsive like many other places.
Do expect to find lots of chicken on the menu, and the sea weed salad portion was way too big, thought it was a bucket of garden plants! Sushi was fresh however if you like SASHIMI, DON'T come here. If you love RICE, THIS IS PERFECT place for you.
Miso soup was instant ones, very bland, but that is what you pay for and they are a business.
Prawn Dumplings were just amazing, not too oily but very crispy outside, delicious inside. Will come back again when near.
Edit: This is about all you can eat version.
It has been quite a while since I've been to an "all you can eat" restaurant, and I really enjoyed my experience at Okami.
The restaurant has two levels, and the seating is a bit crowded, but to be expected with the popularity of the place. There are a good amount of staff, and we did not have to wait too long for service and food (even seated in the back corner upstairs!).
Overall, the food was tasty, and the highlights were obviously the sushi (which was portioned according to how many people were at the table), the tempura and the octopus balls.
I would not recommend the chilli squid, which was a strange texture and had a strange flavour.
The ice-cream for dessert were surprisingly tasty, a nice refresher after the meal and very creamy.
Though the staff have to be quite strict about the sitting times, I think the time allotted was enough to get a good meal in.
Definitely worth a go - make sure you bring your appetite! Great value - nice food - friendly staff.
"Quantity not quality" hints the "All you can eat" sign. Food was ok, (loose sushi rolls and cold rice not so good) but the stark surgery lighting is awful, and please clean up out back!
Haven't been here since so I decided to stop by for a dinner with friends and the food was so delicious. Coming back for more guys cheers for the good and prompt service. Keep up the great work!!!
Amazing Japanese food and great service in reasonable price, the staffs are very friendly and helpful. It is easy to park you car around, absolute recommend!
Been there when it was just opened. Very fresh food with lots of choices. The service is excellent. The staff are very friendly and responsive. The Tatami tables upstairs are great for family dinning or group people. Definitely will be there again with family or friends.
Very fresh Japanese food, we can eat all only $29.80 for one person. We were 3 adults and 1 kid, service was great. Amazing food were really delicious. The excellent restaurant we were enjoyed. We love the beef and tofu!!!
Friendly Service. Lovely food. We enjoyed to stay at Tatami, seafood was fresh and delicious. Highly recommended. The service was awesome. We are be coming back here soon.
I was pleasantly surprised by this place, went there with the family, 7 adults and 4 kids, was a lot of child friendly dishes, food came out quick, service was good. Absolutely worth the 30$ per person.
Very responsive and quick service! That's the first thing in mind for this restaurant when having the all you can eat style. All the dishes I ordered were really delicious, especially all the beef steaks they had on the specific menu. The chicken skewers were also great! The dessert green tea was fantastic! A must try all for just under $30!!
It was a pleasant surprise to walk in to this restaurant. It looked really busy and we thought we give it a try despite the average rating. The food is pretty good and it is good value for money as well. We had ala carte but we will be back for the 'all you can eat'.
We love the beef and the generous portion of side dishes that comes with the bento. The pork katsu was ok. The bento was averagely $16 which I thought was a pretty good deal.
Amazing food and great service! Im so full after eating here!! I will come back again for sure!😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊✅✅✅✅
I highly recommend people come down and check it out!!
We had dinner at there last weekend. Food is so fresh and delicious. We were 14 people sat in Japanese Tatami where so private space. We had a happy dinner. The excellent restaurant, we can eat all food but not expensive.
We are going to next weekend with my family.
It was actually a quite satisfactory experience. All foods were nice, I would personally strongly recommend the cold soba noodles and tempura- beyond expectation. They made each type of food small amount, so that we got to try almost every single food on the menu. Recommend for around 6 people to experience the variety of the menu. Service was pretty good with patience, it didn't take long for the food to be served. Overall, good restaurant, good experience, would come back for it :)
