Review Woodfrog Bakery Camberwell - Camberwell

Marco van der Velde
Really don't get why people rave about the almond croissants and bread at Woodfrog. It's pretty average quality. I know two bakeries that actually do deserve 5 stars for their products: Tatin and Madame Sourdough. Far better almond croissants and bread.

I have been hosting the monthly Camberwell Networkers event on the Second Wednesday of each month starting at 7:30am since 11 December 2019. All guests are served promptly on arrival and can pay separately and then have their refreshments brought to the table. I have enjoyed a date scone and several other local community members have told me what delicacies they have enjoyed as well. It seems everyone I meet has been to Woodfrog Bakery Camberwell! Thanks to the manager David for making us so welcome! Whilst we are in isolation, the event is run online via Zoom.

Quality cafe and bakery. My only suggestion is that the staff listen more clearly to customers are it appears a few people are getting the wrong take away items. Otherwise, I cannot fault this place.

Bakery is always good quality but definitely a bit pricey. Coffee and beverage are well standard. However, the sitting area is not tidy. Seems you always need to help yourself to sort out.

I popped into this branch of Woodfrog bakery on the way to work and purchased a chocolate croissant. Having been blown away by their almond croissant in the past, I was looking forward to a nice sweet chocolatey time.

The croissant itself was a decent size. It was very light and remained slightly crispy. The chocolate filling was slightly disappointing in quantity and taste. Thankfully the layers of pastry made up for it.

Their spelt scone seems to be very popular so will try have to try that next time.

I love Woodfrog! Their bread is awesome as evidenced by the lines out the door on Saturday mornings. However I have one beef with your happy hour special! If you are silly enough to get there just before closing, and buy a loaf of whatever-is-left bread, you may be offered a choice of a left over danish or an unsellable scone for just $2. A bargain, you cry, and yes it is. Or you may be offered a choice of 5 golden morsels for just $10! An even bigger bargain, I hear you say, and yes it is, considering these are usually $4 each. But what if you can't eat 5 Danishes or don't have a hoard of small people to feed? Maybe you would like to buy just 2 of these delectable delights? But NO! You can only buy 1! or 5, but never 2 or 3 or 4 (unless you want to pay full price!). Apparently they would rather throw that Scone away, than sell it to you for $2! They would rather you watch them grind that scone into dust under their feet than make a $2 profit. It is a very sad and sorry tale I have to tell, but I hope that someone at Woodfrog hears my cry for help, my lament for scone freedom and takes mercy on my sconeless soul.....

I really wanted to get in before they stop making hot cross buns, and I'm so glad that I did. The buns at Woodfrog Bakery are some of my favourites, as they are so full of fruit and spice. The outsides are beautifully glazed, and the insides are so light and fluffy.

I also couldn't resist a date scone as well as these huge rugged looking beauties looked divine. Golden brown on the outside, and filled with sweet date pieces; this scone was absolutely fantastic.

Woodfrog Bakery is a small store at the rear of the main road, close to the parking lot where the markets are held. It's a lovely space with so many delicious breads and pastries on offer. Staff are clearly happy to be working in such an environment as they are friendly, patient and helpful. Woodfrog Bakery remains one of my favourites, and I look forward to the opportunity to visit as often as I can.

Visited this hidden bakery in the alleyways of Camberwell a few days ago.
I'm so glad I saw this place online or I would've never have known it existed walking around Camberwell.
The cafe had a rustic but modern feel to it. The prices are pretty steep to be honest but it's totally worth it.
I had a croissant which had flaky pastry and a buttery inside. It was really something to savour.
The service was very friendly as well.

Woodfrog bakery is one of our go-to places for sourdough. We have tried a few different types of sourdough, and so far it's always really good. They also have a bunch of other baked goods to choose, which we will come back to give them a try.

Just recently checked out this place which is in the main area of Camberwell. They have a great range of sweets and you can order a coffee. I had their apple and cinnamon muffin which was delicious. They also have a breakfast menu that has your typical dishes at a great price.

This quaint little bakery does some of the best almond croissants Iā€™ve tried in recent years. Breads and pastries are always fresh and they do really good takeaway paniniā€™s and baguettes. The coffee is also decent. Overall this place is visited regularly by my entire family and never fails to impress

Wood frog make some of the best almond croissants Iā€™ve had to date! (and Iā€™ve had a lot.) Staff are also friendly, the coffee is reasonable and the atmosphere is aesthetic. Based of my own experience I am yet to fault this bakery!

Polite staff and sleek, modern interior. Their pumpkin sourdough is definitely a favourite, and their white and sourdoughs hold a crusty edge and fluffy crumb which is everything to ask for in a loaf of bread! They also offer to cut your bread (for free!), which helps the bread staying fresh and moist for longer. Yet to try out their dining in menu, however we do come regularly to buy their foods! No problems with staff or service.

It's ok. Bread is good, but expensive. And today I decided to try eating in. I saw some pies in the oven and was told they were $6 each, so I a fine my surprise when a loaf of bread, a pie and coffee came to $23! When I questioned this, I was told the pie was actually $10, but I was not informed of the mistake. ā˜¹. I had asked for the pie and coffee to 'eat I'm but everything came in take away containers. I reminded the waitress again that the coffee was ' have here's, but when I didn't get the coffee after another 10 minutes, I questioned a passing waiter only to be given the cold coffee in a take away containers. Then I found a piece of aluminium foil in my pie! So my score is 5šŸŒŸfor bread, but 0šŸŒŸ for service.

This review is only for the bagel I got to share with my kids. To be honest itā€™s more like a bread thatā€™s in a bagel shape more than a bagel. It doesnā€™t have the denseness or the chewiness of a bagel so even though itā€™s big in comparison to a Five and Dime Bagel, itā€™s not as yummy

I first saw this place at a little place on the footpath in Melbourne CBD. Their Almond Croissant was to die for. The Camberwell Shop is Busy, and its all very expensive but not for those areas its opened up in. Service, Bread, sweet bread (pastries) is all good. 4 stars are all good but my only view is.....whats with all the female staff? Sexist Much?

Its great to see different Nationalities even those with strong accents working. Adds to the Atmosphere.

Im closer to Camberwell......but for no issues and low waiting times, I will go to the Doncaster one but traveling that far for a that cafe.....I have to admit.....I would go elsewhere.

Still a good place. Top Almond Croissant in Melb.
Would go back for that anyday

Lovely little bakery cafe busting with people early morning, soft music at the background and aromatic freshly baked loaves. They serve Axil coffee and ample selection of crossaints and pastries. Their pumpkin sour dough and classic baguette is my favourite.

This fruit bread will change your life. Never before have I had such delicious fruit toast that was packed full of real, quality, yummy fruit- I just broke up with tip top.

Ordered their coffees and scones on sunday morning, this place was packed. Service was very fast and friendly and as their place is quite small, many customer sit on the outside which was also good as it was market day. Scones was okay and their coffees as well, saw other people ordering their pastries which i will try when i come back there next time.

Nice bakery with entrance hidden away at the car park near the camberwell market and NAB branch. Bakery items are very fresh and tasty and they offer Axil coffee.

I popped into Woodfrog Bakery to grab a sourdough loaf which Iā€™ve tried from their Kew store before and loved. This time they had some pre-sliced for my convenience. Guilty pleasure I know in this world where any form of carbs by some is considered a cheat meal. My experience is that their white sourdough with butter AND crunchy peanut butter is a truely spiritual experience which I donā€™t intend giving up any time soon.

Throw into the mix some frightfully expensive but very tasty fruit mince pies ($4 each) and I think my path towards Christmas has been sent in the right direction.

While these fruit mince pies are good another close contender as my favourite of are available for $1.49 a six pack from Aldi... just saying.

Fantastic selection of breads, muffins, pastries, scones etc. Their pumpkin bread was fantastic! Super light, with a fantastic flavour. Theyā€™re tucked behind Burke Rd (near the market) so a good place to pop into for a morning cake and coffee or to pick up some freshly baked bread.
