Review Wishing Well Of India - Camberwell

Matt Swan
For a local restaurant it does a pretty good job. Phone orders for takeaway are quick and the meal deals are good value. I'm not entirely sure how the ONE can of soft drink included in the meal deal is supposed to wash down the meal deal that otherwise will feed 2 to 3 people.

Though this place is Indian restaurant, they do not seem to treat Indians customers with respect or in other words it seems that though this is an Indian cuisine, Indian customers are not welcomed! We went to this place as a family of 6 people. The serving staff had a frown on their faces all the time, seemed impolite and appeared disrespectful in their whole demeanor! Secondly, the portion of each curry served was only about 4 spoonful! And lastly, the invoice generated was improper, hand written and scribbled on bad hand writing making it unclear / difficult to read.

There are few Indian restaurants in Melbourne that get 4 star review from me. As an amateur cook, food lover and hobbyist, I understand food. if you are seeking authentic Indian cuisine, Wishing Well of India may be the place to try. Ambiance, that's okay, but not for your first date.

Just moved to the neighbourhood and had a quick late dinner there with my wife. Service was lovely by a girl that just started there and the food was excellent. The bill more than reasonable... Definitely be coming back.

great little indian restaurant for dinning in or take away ! it used to be my favourite indian takeaway until I moved from the area ! highly recommend ! love there garlic naan and tandoori chicken ! prices reasonable ! 4.5 stars
Monique Verlaque
Garlic Naan was just raw garlic thrown on top with a heap of oil, vindaloo was not a vindaloo and was not great, meat samosa was overcooked, the vegetable samosa was very tasty though.
JIBRAN SAEED
I ordered chicken biryani and it was the worst chicken biryani i have ever tried. It was full of oil and there was no existence of chicken. Believe me i had throw that chicken biryani because i wasn’t able to eat that.
todd james
Ordered coconut rice. got a mixed savoury rice. 2wice ordered onion baji. Both times got a mix of tofu and vege baji. Its all ok but not what you order
Tony Woolhouse
Absolutely fantastic food! Not the best service but that's ok, you'll probably find it better if you take away, the bottle shop next door is handy as well! Been coming here for a while now! Definitely recommend!

One of my friend suggested me this place for dinner. Being a hardcore non vegetarian, i ordered my all time favorite samosa and chickrn biryani, while samosa was good, biryani..umm.. was more like fried rice than biryani. Didnt taste or look even 10℅ like hoe biryani supposed to be. As far as the service goes, not that of good service, basic things like water glasses, and spoons were needed to ask for. So not going back there.! Not recommended.!

Love this place. Got two entrees one of which was the delicious samosas. Best I've had! The papadams were amazing and really happy to see they weren't fried (I think?). Had vege korma and a paneer dish. Love this place. Sad to see there aren't many patrons but they must get a lot of take away! That strip just isn't popular for dine in dinners.

I've heard so many good reviews about the butter chicken from here so I tried it tonight and it was disappointing!! The sauce was soo liquidy it was like orange water and there was about 6 little pieces of chicken. Can't say I'll be rushing back here again. Although the samosas were fantastic

Best Buttered Chicken of all time. I eat a lot of curry, and the buttered chicken here is hands down the best in melbourne. No question. But do takeaway. Restaurant is lack luster. Very handy bottle shop next door to get frothies to go with your tasty curry. Winning

Cheap and cheery, our new favourite local Indian. Not as luxurious and attentive service as at Tandoori Den, but food with great flavours. Onion Bhaji and Daal Makhani to die for!

Nothing worth writing about. The Chicken was bad. The Manchurian Balls were too soggy. The naans were too dry. The only good thing was the quantity. It was a good portion size. Good enough for Two.
Not worth visiting.

Great service and fantastic food. Always love getting my takeaway from here, it's always fast as well. I'm lucky it's so close to my house!

Yesterday. I got home delivery with two curries and bread naan from this restaurant .That food was taste less Furthermore quantity of food was so less as comparison other Indian restaurant and bread naan was uncooked. I spent too much money for that but it was wastage of money. I always prefer to go Tandoori Den but sadly it does'nt open on Monday.
Mistermister
Had takeaway. Portions are much bigger than the usual Indian restaurant. The flavours are ok, I still prefer Tandoori Den. But thus is closer, so if I am lazy I'll come here. Vindaloo is not bad. The garlic nhan is the best I've ever had.

Wishing Well India - A wish come true!. After moving to Melbourne 2 years ago, I found myself repeatedly disappointed by sub-par Indian meals in various Melbourne suburbs, however when I moved to Camberwell (just a few blocks away from Wishing Well Camberwell), I was hopeful, yet sceptical. To my delight, Wishing Well was exactly the kind of Indian restaurant I had been longing for, as it is consistently fresh, authentic and flavoursome. I now frequent Wishing Well weekly and I have to give them 10/10 for food, service and affordability. Wishing Well provide a quality service each and every time. The staff are very friendly, always greeting me with a genuine smile. Wishing Well has become a weekly occurrence and I will continue to be a regular.

Excellent food at a great price
It is surprising to see so many negative reviews.
We have been to The Wishing Well of India many times and have thorougly enjoyed dining in everytime. Staff is wonderful and very accomodating. Very delicious food, Excellent servings, great value and you always feel so welcomed! I normally go for butter chicken and biryani and they both are scrumptious to the taste buds! Thank you Wishing Well.

When u book online it's then up to menulog head office to get in touch with the restaurant hence why it may take time for u to be notified on how long your food will take just thought I'd share that useful information lol

What happened to this place?. My wife and i have been coming here for at least a decade, having many a great memory over the years. I have seen changes occur with some regularity, but at least the quality of food remained constant. After a short break, I recently ordered dinner online for pick up. The reply took a bit of time but I assumed it was because they were busy. When i arrived for the scheduled pick up, the place was deserted. I sat down next to the register and waited for service. After about 3 minutes, I rang the bell and finally somebody came through and handed me my order which as sitting next to the register. Thought nothing of all of this and went home.

The mango chicken we normally order for the kids and our vegetable curries were quite plain, in fact they were awful. Upon reflection I was quite surprised to see an empty restaurant, as they always seen to have customers at the tables. I now know why. A previous review from a couple of months ago seems to adequately reflect how I feel, this place has gone down hill.

Excellent Kulfi and Vindaloo!
My sister and I went there tonight (Wednesday) and really enjoyed it. We went vegetarian with vegetable jalfrezi and vegetable vindaloo. Both were very good. The roti and naan were also good although a touch different in style to other Indian restaurants nearby.
The highlight was the Kulfi that was right up there with the best that either of us had ever had.
I'll be coming back with the family!

Delicious. Went here for the first time on a 25% off coupon and I was very impressed. Just after we arrived, we were given some bread and some dips which was a nice gesture. The mains (Malai Kofta and a Paneer (I believe it was #53)) were delicious and are highly recommended. I had a mango lasso which was very flavoursome and the garlic naan was nice although it was very oily.

Highly recommended and I am looking forward to return.

Not so good.... Wishing Well of India, Camberwell South, used to be a frequent visit for my family when we couldn't be bothered cooking. Despite the continuous changes in ownership and management, the restaurant provided consistent and good Indian cuisine. Unfortunately, a recent visit showed the complete opposite. The curry was incredibly plain and diluted. It was not something that I would recommend to anyone unless you really want something that is "boring" so to speak with no curry flavor attached. The naan was also very dry. I would, however, highly recommend going to Tandoori Den not too far from Wishing Well of India - yes, it may be more dearer being almost on the junction but the food is consistently fantastic and never fails me! I will certainly keep going back there rather than Wishing Well of India.

Delicious!!. No gravy here unless its a creamy spinach. Luscious sauces rich in flavour and bright on the palate. The rice is light and sprinkled with flavour. Crispy naan lightly layered & flavoured. Other Indian food won't be good enough after you've been here. Typically quirky interior, great music & gentle service.

Mrs. We tried Wishing Well for the first time last night, it had been recommended to us.
We had lovely food in pleasant surroundings and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.
Our waitress was lovely friendly and very helpful and attentive, we will defiantly be returning.

Excellent food at a great price. We have been to The Wishing Well of India over many years, and have seen many changes. The current owners are the best. Staff are wonderful and don't change, food is great. Tonight we again had the mixed banquet, Very delicious, Excellent servings, great value and you always feel so welcomed! Thank you Wishing Well.

Best Indian Food. We had our son's First Birthday Party at Wishing Well Of India. Great service by the owner and the staff. The food is excellent. I would highly recommend this place for dine-in, take away or parties.

Tastes Truly Indian. We visited in late Nov'13 and ordered Aaloo Tikki, Vegetarian Dish, Bread and Biryani. The taste of the food was awesome. It was tasting authentic Indian with right amount of spices and smell. Worth giving a try once.

Mum. We didn't book but managed to score the last table. The service was fantastic. One waitress looking after everyone. The food was really good. Luckily the eight children on the other side of the room were not too noisy. Would recommend this place.

Had takeaway via delivery hero. Delivery was excellent...very quick. Food was very very average. Lots of sauce, very little meat, tough and gristle. Starter (sheekh kebab) clearly made some time ago, probably frozen and microwave thawed. Rice and naan good though. Good to see the system works, but the food was a let down. Should have known from the low prices I suppose.

Wishing well is owned by the one of the finest indian chefs in whole of the australia. Really love their lamb chops, lamb samosa, achari tikka, laccha prantha, sizzler , lemon pepper , goat curry and chicken dhansak, and some times I enjoyed mixed platter. Awesome food with gentle care and very friendly and humble service. All the best for their christmas season and new year.

Good, clean Indian food. My fiancee and I either dine in here or have dinner delivered to our home down the road about once a month. Before visiting the Wishing Well, I truly despised Indian food - heavy, greasy, oily, fatty, salty - I avoided as much as possible. However, I gave this place a try and it is just sensational - Really good, clean, fresh Indian cuisine. The Wishing Well does most of its business from take away - so do not expect the fine dining experience when you go there. However, there is a good reason locals keep coming back and why the phone runs off the hook when you eat there - great food at an affordable price. The Chicken Tikka, a vegatable dish to share and a rice dish to share easily accommodates two diners, and all for less than $30. Also BYO.

Dined in on the weekend and what a lovely surprise! Awesome service great food, and looks like they have updated the interior.
Dominic Vexil
Great food, excellent flavour. I'll definitely be going there regularly.

We have been going to wishing well for many years.... Most times - not many there... And food/service ok. We arrived on Friday night - place was buzzing - new owners, new front of house lady who was wonderful, food had gone up many notches - and we left paying no more - and totally loving the new place - congrats - tony

The new chef knows what he/she is doing as the food is now fantastic. The vindaloo is spicy with a sharp hit of vinegar - a stand out!
Rob
Awsome. The food was really really nice. Probably the best vindaloo i've ever had. Prices are very reasonable and the service was excellent. :-)

Your Wish is Granted. WOW!, have lived in the area for 20 years and seen the good and bad as owners and Chef's change. Tried the food last week it was so good. Went back this week to see if could be as good. It was great! even better the second time. So fresh, so tasty definitely the best it has been in our time. New décor and polite, caring service to compliment the food. If you have been before you have to go back, if you have not been you are missing out on a little gem. Food for all the tastes, Vegetarian (amazing), Madras (brilliant) Kebabs (Yum)... I could go on but I’ll leave others to try the genuinely good food being served.

New Management. We live in the local area and have seen the up and downs of this restaurant. We are absolutely delighted that it is under new management , try the beef madras - fantastic, all quality produce now. Service was great, helpful and pleasant. Highly recommend this restaurant you won't be disappointed.

Wish you well. All good with these guys. Went on a "Deal" and the food was terrific. As for comments regarding service, yes, the one and only "Basil" works his little Bangalore bottom off running from table to table BUT show him some friendliness and the worlds your oyster. Like all things Indian, patience brings rewards. Great restaurant, great food and wish you well at the wishing well.
Edwina
Great food, terrible service. We went with a Deals.com voucher for $29. We figured at that price it'll be a bit of fun. The food was fabulous and the service was awful. Everything came out on time pretty well but they took a long time to clear our plates. We got our soft drinks but the description of a 7 course banquet was a stretch. The rice was considered one course as were the pappadums! Anyway, we could see they were trying they just need to make a few changes to the ambiance, turn down the doof doof music at the end of the night and learn to be waiters.

Hi friends, I been to this restaurant many times . I loved every time ... I feel like I m having the gr8 traditional food in Australia . Delicious food ..... Will be back soon

Avoid all vouchers from deal sites for this restaurant. Went to Wishing well tonight on a voucher from deals.com.au. Food was reasonable although starters came out very quickly and appeared to be precooked and heated in microwave. For main currys we were not offered a menu but given 1 choice of vegetable curry and 2 meat currys (also vegetarian curry appeared to have been prepared earlier and microwaved.). Then we were not given a choice of desserts, and yet the deal site states -Choose one Meat Curry from the menu. Choose one Vegetarian Curry from the menu. Choice of desserts.
To add insult to injury we were supposed to get a soft drink each, never offered yet they had the gall to charge us corkage.
Will never return and have lodged a complaint with the deal site.

Horrible service both times we have been. Waited 2 hours (yes 2 hours) for our mains and watched a table of similar size be served and finish their mains 45 minutes before we even got ours. Won't be back.

Had takeaway. Average at best. Onion Bahji's were terrible. Samosa's ok. Worst Rogan Josh I've had. Naan's were just ok.
Peter Baxter
Well cooked fare. We had a delicious takeaway meal. They were prompt with delivery. The vegetable samosas were delicious, and we particularly liked the Rogan Josh.
Jeanette_kc
Tasty stuff!. I've only had take away or delivery from these guys and it's yummy every time. Really like the Chicken Tikka. Good local.

Service is shocking food is great. Saag dishes highly recommended

The sercice was not great, although we could tell that the one girl who was waiting tables was doing her best and she was very nice. Prices were very reasonable and the food was delicious. We will definitely be returning!
Rogue Spoon
What a shocker. We had appalling service. left after Left after the microwaved entrees. When they are competing against the likes of the Tandoori Den only a few minutes away, I am surprised they can survive. Many neighbours and friends have had dissappointing food and service as well. Definitely one to avoid.
Michelle
We love it. We have eaten take away from this restaurant on many occasions and think it is great food and great value for money.
