Review Curry Camp - Camberwell

Found my perfect lamb briyani! So tender, full of flavour and yet not too salty. Thumbs up! Make it mild spicy and I was sold. Will come again to try other dishes.

I ALWAYS enjoy having curries from Curry Camp. For seafood lovers, I highly recommend you to try prawn curries (I am having "Tawa Prawn Achari" with beer right now.....this is just what I needed on Friday night after working hard for a week). For vegetarians, Curry Camp serves the best vegetarian curries. Their bean curries are great but my favourites are the ones cooked with cottage cheese! Along with the curries, I love their breads. I tried "Masala Kulcha:stuffed with spiced potato & cheese" for the first time today. So yummy!!! Their customer service is professional and they are very nice people! Definitely worth trying. Kay

Welcoming and friendly Indian family. The chef knows his cuisine and every dish ordered has been fantastic. My personal favourite is the beef Vindaloo.
Pavan Akuthota
Biryani quantity is very less, not worth the price. Tandoori chicken is good. Not advisable to visit when you are hungry.
Stacey TT
The flavours were amazing, however the vegetable dhansak was apparently made with a frozen asian store-bought veggie mix rather than fresh vegetables. This ruined the dish for me.
Steve Werner
Worth the walk up the hill. This place is authentic, friendly and no queuing required. The chicken tika alone makes this my go to local Indian.
Chris Jensen
Curry Camp is always friendly and welcoming, the menu has a great range and the food is of good quality. Try the chef specialty bread.
Anthony Vanderbyl
Service is poor, serves are minuscule. There are better value Indian eateries around.
Julian Posada
I visited this restaurant with my family after reading the review from Leam and i confirm that the place is very good. The service is nice and friendly and the food is delicious and generous size.
Liam
Quiet gem near the heart of Camberwell. The service was friendly, the menu, classic and the food was absolutely phenomenal. Myself and three friends went on a distant recommendation, and were both surprised and delighted at the quality of the authentic Indian food. I highly recommend.

Ordered via UberEats - one butter chicken, two saffron rice, samosas and naan. Fair to say Curry Camp has lost its touch... once a fairly priced Indian take-out restaurant, it is now serving low quality food that doesn't use fresh ingredients.

The Butter Chicken was absolutely horrible, too watery, no spices and tasted so bland if I was blindfolded I wouldn't have had a chance to guess it was the classic Indian dish so commonly served in Australia. The naan bread was reheated unevenly, each piece tasted too salty and was ridiculously thick and condensed. The samosas and rice were edible.

It's a real pity they have given up on serving quality meals, and I feel stupid for not reading and believing the last reviewer who should act as a warning beacon before placing your order at Curry Camp.

Delicious North Indian food in Camberwell!

Decided to visit Curry Champ to satisfy my Saturday evening cravings for some yummy Indian food. Was greeted by a pleasant hostess and TJ the chef, who gave us a good run down of the menu.

Enjoyed the Samosa as an Entrée and wasn’t long before the main spread came out-Lamb Madras and Saag Paneer accompanied with fluffy Garlic Naan and Aloo Paratha.

The spread was delicious and went down quickly in spite of the generous servings!

Great service in spite of the restaurant being busy serving dine in guests and take away orders. Definitely will be back for more

How very disappointing this meal was. I ordered butter chicken, Rogan josh and naan bread. Both curries lacked any Indian spice flavour.
The butter chicken was so tasteless and the chicken was dry. The rogan josh didn’t taste like rogan josh, I was starting to wonder if they gave me the wrong curry. The only good thing about the “rogan josh” was that the lamb was tender. The naan breed was a little doughy and needed to be cooked a tad longer but other than that, was average.

Definitely will not bother ordering from here again.

I literally eat here, or get their food delivered once a week. It is some of the best Indian in the area! So many options for both meat/seafood and vegetarian dishes, and affordable. Definitely something for everyone! This intimate restaurant has lovely service, and delicious food. Always keeping me going back.

Since discovering this gem in Camberwell, we haven't been able to stay away. Phenomenal Indian food! The breads and main dishes never disappoint. The family who runs this establishment are charming. The food comes out hot and fresh delivered by smiling faces! Great experience and always leave satisfied! Might just have to go back tonight!

Delicious food. As a coeliac, it's nice to have a safe venue where I can enjoy flavoursome food. The staff have always been delightful, and I have enjoyed every dish served. Special favourites are onion bhajis, vegetable korma, lamb rogan josh, veggie rice, butter chicken, and mango lassies. Highly recommended for quality, value for money, friendly service, and warm environment.
Foodie
Was great until it recently changed ownership. Now it's just another average game Indian restaurant. Garlic naan is bland, as our flavours and portion sizes have shrunk. Unfortunately our favourite little curry haunt is gone- we won't be going back again.
Phil
Fantastic Indian restaraunt. The chicken vindaloo is brilliant and the amount of spice can be altered to suit your preference. The naan bread is the best my partner and I have ever had. Highly recommend this restaraunt
Tyson
We have ordered a lot from curry camp because it's always extremely good! Love the seekh kabab and the korma...... highly recommended.......
Hi
Wonderful food! Exceptional service and great quality, Indian, hearty food. I highly recommend the brown lentil Dahl, as it is the best I have ever tried. Definitely give this take away or dine in place a go!
Reviewer
Always delicious food, especially love the Dahl. Saves me having to cook and a taste sensation!! Will definitely be back. Do yourself a favour and try the Curry Camp in Camberwell.

Good food and family environment good service.
If you don't see in the menu what you like to eat, just explain, chef will do it for you, maybe not exactly same what you ate, but close enough.
We recently moved from SA, tried few places, only this one is our favourite till now. My children like Butter Chicken.
Highly recommended.

The best Indian restaurant east of Hoddle street. If you live around Camberwell be sure to make this your new local for curry, paneer and all deliciously spicy meals.

Food ordered:
My first experience with Curry Camp was take away and the food was really great but as with all takeaway wasn't straight from the pan to my plate. So I had to come in and sit down for a meal.

Vegetable platter, saag paneer, butter chicken and garlic naan. My wife is a huge fan of the platter, she loves crispy food and the platter is a great way to start the meal. Each item thoughtfully prepared and full of flavour. The saag paneer here rivals Angaan over in Footscray and just beats it with its generous portion. The butter chicken is creamy, bright and tender. All the sauces soaked up nicely with the fluffy and crisp naan.

Ambience:
The restaurant is a family business and has a charm and friendliness to match. The waitress was very helpful and happy. It's a small dining area that I've never seen too busy but the takeaway is always pumping.

I am repeat customer already and hope to continue that trend as long as I can. Thanks for the great and authentic food Curry Camp!

Most authentic and homely Indian cooking I have had ever since returning from my Mumbai trip two years ago! We ordered Butter Chicken, Saag Paneer, Pulao, Garlic Naan and Mango Laasi for delivery through Menu Log. (That's my own plate and spoon in the photo :)) The only reason why this isn't a 5.0 is because of the late delivery. It arrived half an hour later than the time advised in the SMS confirmation.

In our small town of Hamelin Camberwell, which composes of either cheap, chain or expensive restaurants there are a few lunch spots we'd like to try out. The first is Curry Camp, a ma and pa Indian restaurant, small but cozy and surprisingly never full, though it is a small town.
Frog
Great little shop front place with excellent Indian and pleasant service. We really enjoyed everything we ordered but I think next time I'd get take out and enjoy at home.
DJ
Started off with Onion Bhaji. These were balls of chickpea and onion, but quite wet in the middle - seemingly under-cooked. Also without much flavour.

After that, the Kadhai Chicken, Rogan Josh and Aloo Gobhi Masala.

The Aloo Gobi was pretty tasteless - just a little bit sweet. The Kadhai Chicken and Rogan Josh were just okay - nothing too interesting.

Service was good and the place does have a reasonably friendly vibe. The food is just average, however.

Curry camp is an amazing Indian takeaway. Myself and my partner have probably been here 40 times since it opened last year!! It is such a tasty, easy and affordable restaurant and our go to Friday night takeaway meal nearly every week. The deals are a great price and there is always leftovers as the portions are generous. Favourite meals are Malai Kofta, Saag Paneer and any Vindaloo. The owners are super friendly as well so this is a big win of a place for me and I will continue to go here for a long time to come.
Food Lord
First time here, welcomed by the cook and seated quickly. Looking over the prices its very cheap! The food was fantastic (low salt which is great) and will definitely be back again!
Ian
Our go to takeaway! Great food, great service and very reasonably priced.
We find that Australian curries tend to be a little mild so we always ask for it HOT and they deliver.
Saag Paneer and Prawn Masala are our favorites.
David
Consistently delicious! Thoroughly recommended. Excellent service and the meals are always prepared in a timely manner. Worth making a detour for this restaurant.

Wat a gem in Camberwell...A small place run by family with way too prompt service n superb food. Best part curries have nearly negligible oil and not at all heavy on stomach. Price is very reasonable n still you end up getting gr8 food. Surely gonna visit again. :)

We have been to many Northern Indian restaurants and given the quality of food and price point this place is my favourite. Saag Paneer, Butter Chicken and Lamb Rogan Josh are the usual dishes we order and they are consistently good. I also recommend the garlic Naan.

The staff are friendly and the service is good.
Vicky_doufa
Absolutely the best Indian I've had in Australia. Really yummy curries and not too heavy or oily. Definately a regular of ours now and the best around Camberwell. Any curry I have had has been amazing so a bit hard to specify one. Just go for one you fancy and you won't be disappointed! Lovely people running the place too.
Dan S
Excellent delivery last night, chicken vindaloo very good, could have been hotter, tikka masala very delicious, but hands down winner was the saag paneer- large chunks of cheese and the creamiest spinach you can imagine, 5 star dish.

Curry Camp turned out to be a treat of a restaurant that we will certainly be revisiting. Amazing service, wonderful food and great value! The young woman in particular that waited on us was very helpful with explaining certain choices on the menu that we were unfamiliar with, and was constantly offering us more water and delicious condiments. Loved every minute of the dinner.
Foodie Gal
Gorgeous little indian restaurant with warm and attentive owners. The restaurant has BYO but doesnt have any alcohol on their menu. We started our meal with a sizzling platter of shish kebab and tandoori chicken which was perfectly spiced and delicious. Our mains were butter chicken and lamb vindaloo accompanied with raita, naan and rice. The butter chicken was very mild and perhaps just a little too sweet but tasty. The lamb vindaloo was deliciously hot and spicy in a tender meat gravy all mopped up with the light and fluffy naan. This place is a must try dont be put off by the size and casual setting, give small cafe/restaurants a try, we will definitely be back for more.
Simone
Delicious and good quality ingredients. Such good value for money - perfect for a cheap night out with friends!! 👍👌 the owners are very polite and friendly!
Maryam
This place never disappoints! The best indian food on the south of the river for sure!! We love it! A regular indulgence for our family! Thank you Curry Camp!
Mark
It's the one of the best Indian since I move in the area from overseas. From now on this will be only choice in Melbourne for Indian meal. My children like Butter Chicken.
I do recommend.
Keep it up guys.
Paramm685
I am extremely pleased with the taste, service and ambience. Especially I eat the mouth watering sea food and goat curry. also my favourites are the veggie on tray and chicken tikka .yummy!!!!!!
Sweet17
Delicious curry. On a cold Melbourne evening this place cannot be beat. The curry was exquisite. Be brave and try something other then the usual butter chicken. We had the Saag Chicken and chefs special. Both curries were just so flavoursome with the Saag in particular delightfully surprising. The place has a real family kitchen feel. We ate dinner early and the restaurant wasnt quite busy yet so the chef took the opportunity to personally check that everything was ok. It was nice to see him and his staff genuinely care and be so attentive to our needs. Highly recommend that you give this place a go as you wont regret it.

Best Indian food in Melbourne! We have been to Curry Camp several times and the food is always amazing and is so reasonably priced! The samosas and naan in particular are homemade and delicious as well as all of the we've curries tried so far. The staff and owners are always lovely and friendly too. Would definitely recommend checking out this little hidden gem! We will be back!

This is our 3rd visit to our favorite Indian restaurant. Again we weren't disappointed. One important point to note is the prices shown in zomato are for takeaway only. Done-in prices are slightly more e.g. Onion bhaji costs $5, $12 for butter chicken, $9.5 for aloo Gobhi and $11 for chicken baryani. Still very reasonable.
Outstanding. We have been eating indian for 15-20 years and this is one of the best we've had. Food was absolutely delicious, hot spicy as requested, delivered quickly and piping hot. The menu was extensive and it was hard to choose. Especially exciting to see a large vegetarian choice. This was complex, beautifully spicy and flavoured and packed with fresh ingredients. Both bowls ended up clean! The naan was hot, fresh and very good, which was fluffy and piping hot. What a find! We will definitely be ordering from here again.

A lovely little place with very friendly staff and great food. Good value and tasty food with nice portions. Food is ready fairly quickly and always enjoyable.

Excellent taste with pure blend of spices. Specially good combination of mouth watering dishes and ambience. Love chef special dishes apart from the routine ones....
Alexandra Rowan
Great local Indian! Every curry was delicious; smallish servings but was definitely enough. Will absolutely be back, the Vindaloo was on point.

We are group of six traveling and dining out normally.
We been to this little gem last week, our experience was great, two of us with special dietary enjoyed our meal as well.
This will be on our list for next Indian meal.
We recommend this to everyone.
Worldismy0yster
We went as a group of 12 for a lunch. The hostess took excellent care of our special requests made while booking. As requested, food arrived very quickly (mum's in a rush for school pick up) and was much better than most of the indian restaurants in the eastern suburbs. The must trys there are the achari tawa murg (done very differently), bombay baigan (chef's own innovation) and the gobhi manchurian (cauliflower stir fried in Indo-chinese way, special request).
They even do a goat curry which is not an easy find (on my next order).
This little jewel run by a husband and wife team should be on everyone's list who like their curry.
Brunching Around
Delivery on time, fresh and flavoursome!. Ordered chicken tikka and desi goat curry. Both were amazingly tender and aromatic full of flavour! Fresh, non-greasy Indian takeaway. Good prices too! Will be back

Best curry getting around. Best curry and best service getting around. I'm a regular. Can't do better than curry camp.
Grace
Great value for money, friendly staff and awesome food! Went here for the first time yesterday as everything else in camberwell seemed to be closed on a Monday night. It doesn't look like much from the street but we were met by a friendly manager who suggested we get the early bird dinner deal. Rice, a curry, a naan and raita for $15... Doesn't get much better than that! The amount of meat in each curry was small but ended up being a perfect amount as it wasn't sickly! Would totally recommend curry camp, looking forward to going back soon!

Just awesome. Great curry with reasonable price.
Definitely be back most weekends :)

Decent. Your standard Indian take away fare with reasonable prices and generous servings. Nothing outstanding but good enough to order again for a take away fix.

Awesome service and food Sanjay and his team do their best to treat their customer best

George and Daniel. Was more than a 100 foot journey from Ivanhoe East but well worth the drive. Absolutely the best Indian food we have had for a long long time. We'll be back!

Fresh & Homely Food - The Curry Camp. Being an indian myself, am very picky of what i eat outside. generally of all the indian food v try outside its dull and just tastes spices. A very warm place to dine in & equally good for quick take aways. The food is always as fresh it could be with very less dry spices but great homely taste. beautiful service, just love it when they call up to follow up about the food delivered.

Jayden. Best Indian in town superb food quality and service the staff is nice and very well managed for this small place they respect everyone and the food quality is also the best I've ever had in Melbourne the price is also cheap as compare to other restaurants around
Mrooke1958
Wonderful Indian Cuisine. Great food and fantastic service at a reasonable price. If you love authentic Indian cuisine, definitely try this restaurant. We have been regular patrons since Curry Camp opened in Burke Rd and have never had a disappointing dish. The menu is extensive and all the food is seriously tasty. You must try the lacha paratha flat bread, it is delicious! An unassuming restaurant, great food, reasonable prices and wonderful people. The perfect Indian meal for the family. Thanks Sanjay and Vibha
Rebecca_mason_44
Over priced and poor service. Walked into a small cafe/deli style restaurant! Sits approx 20ppl on cheap mismatched furniture. Was seated and instantly I knew this was a terrible mistake. Worst service I have ever had! Waiter had no idea what was happening. He needed constantly promoting just through ordering! Not just from me but also from my indian partner) We were the only ones in the place and it took 45 mins for entree to arrive that was undercooked lamb and dry chicken tikka. And 1.5 hrs for mains!!! Food was dismal without a doubt the worst indian food I've ever had! Including indian sauces from a jar! The price was well overpriced for the quality of food, service and decor! I will never return DO NOT waste your time or money! Go to a food court I guarantee it will be much better!

Best Around. Fantastic service and food the best indian I have had in Melbourne. Will be going back.

Dinner at Curry Camp. Very delicious and on time. Have ordered on many occasions and always fantastic. Nice and enjoyable meal. I recommends to others

Shipra. Best Indian food, excellent customer service and no one beat their Laccha Paratha.

Friendly professional service, tasty, fresh and well priced food. Enjoyed our meal and would recommend.

Great food and service. Went back again after a holiday with a break of almost three months. Loved it before and still fantastic. Wonderful service and every dish from the garlic naan to vindaloo, perfect.
ShoshanaW
Best Indian since Sachin Tendulkar. Fresh, tasty, super light on ghee, quality tender meat, real vegetables in the curries. Friendly and warm quick service. Very well priced.
Unassuming on the outside, delicious on the inside .
An all-round winner..,
We'll be back!
Noony-194
Highly recomanded ....:). This place is doing amaizing food, the service is also grwat and on time. Prices are modest and affordable, I would eat there everyday if I could. It is certainly the best indian restaurant I went to in the area. Great Value :)
Memphis
Excellent Value. Went here tonight for the first time. Their prices are very modest, and the food is of above average quality. Very good for this area.
Vincent
Went there today for take away. Staff was really friendly and even asked me for feedback on my experience, so here it is:
- For this price, the food was amazing! Special mention to the naan that was unbelievable.
- Really loved the customer service, friendly people giving an extra attention and I was only there to order a take away!

Will definitely come back, totally worth it!
Fairliewayne
Delicious, friendly, inexpensive, perfect!. We just finished the most delicious dinner from Curry Camp! Beautiful chicken tikka, saag paneer, Dahl, Kadai paneer, raita and spicy salad. It was tasty, fresh, steaming hot and healthy. We will definitely be back!!!

Fantastic flavour and price. The meals are full of flavour, possibly the best I've had in the area and are reasonably priced. The only issue I have is that meals with meat have more sauce than meat in comparison to other Indian restaurants in the area.
_raynbow_
Just right. Boy and I felt like some warm curry this wet and windy Melbourne evening and this place was just down the road. The price definitely looked right so we wandered in and we're seated by the window. There was no one else around, but that changed shortly after. We were pretty hungry so we ordered the Vege platter for entrée, the Bombay Baigen, Kaju Paneer, 2 garlic naans, kulcha naan and rice. Tons of food for two, we ended up taking most of the naan and bit of the curry home.
Vege platter was mild and tasty, the Baigen was beautiful, fresh and had a good amount of crisp to the capsicum. I was tossing up with the butter chicken or the kaju paneer, but the kaju was a great vegetarian substitute with creamy sauce and lovely soft paneer mixed with just firm cashews.
We got all of the above under $40, with great service by staff and the sweet owners. We will definitely be back!
Madhikari152
Curry camp is amazing!. What a great find, interesting menu, great service, a local family resturant. If you are looking for some different different to eat in camberwell, then try currycamp.
Ruth Rutledge
Delicious dinner here tonight everything was great especially the chana masala and garlic naan bread. We loved how the meal wasn't rushed and got to enjoy the starters before the main course came. We had two lamb main courses and one chicken and they were all lovely. Only thing was that it was a pity it wasn't busier on a Saturday night. Will be back.
Yamaurakeiko
Best Curry Shop in Victoria. I have tried most of the dishes at Curry Camp. Everything is great, authentic and inexpensive. HIGHLY recommended for any occasion. My favorite dish is vegetarian curry with cottage cheese!
Kay

Loved it!. Read the reviews online and curry camp didnt disappoint! amazing food! their naan is the best and i will definitely be coming back for more. recommended!
Kym
Lovely food and service... It's great to find an Indian place that's way above average, and not stuck in the '80s. The lamb saag was superb, everything was excellent. Not many tables so I think this will soon be hard to get into. Can't wait to return!

Best Indian in the Hawthorn Area. Owned and run for 17yrs by a lovely Indian couple this authentic restaurant has the best Indian dishes in the local area bar none. Previously operated as Curry Curry. Do yourself a favour and give this little gem a go.
Yok
Incredible food. Went here for dinner with my partner and we loved it. Best Indian food we both have ever had. Had only gotten to appetizers and I already thought the food was incredible. We got recommended a few new things we'd never tried before and we were extremely impressed. The service was super friendly and the atmosphere was warm and cozy. Will definitely be coming back. We had two entres, and 2 mains and a couple of sides and it cost $25 dollars per person. Great value for money and excellent food.
Troy Nicholson
Best Indian in Camberwell. A seemingly new store, Curry Camp is quite simply the best indian restaurant i've been to. Had Butter Chicken, Lamb Madras and Chicken Tikka, all cooked superbly and very well priced (mains $11-good serving sizes). I would recommend anyone in the area who's after an indian meal to go and try it out, you wont be disappointed.

Great food!. Great butter chicken for the price definitely recommended in Camberwell!
Matt Foster
I think the food here is outstanding, as I have dined at many Indian restaurants around Melbourne and haven't experienced anything close. It's not fine dining by any means, but a cute little place with very reasonable prices. They now have a permit for outside dining, which I look forward to during the warmer months.
Mark Little
Best Indian in the area. The Indian here is excellent, nobody does bread (lachcha paratha) as well as Sanjay. For those who have been eating Indian in Camberwell / Hawthorn for the last 20 years will be very pleased to see these folk back.
Enjoy!
Hardik
Very good and testy food, really Indian taste.
