Review Trang Bakery Cafe - Camberwell

I don’t like to queue but the Crispy Pork Banh Mi at Trang’s is well worth the wait. Crispy fatty succulent pork in a fresh banquette topped with their special sauce, Yum.i

I'm a regular customer at this place and the food is incredible. But today I turned up, and got my regular order, somehow, this wizard behind the counter had not only constructed the best Banh mi I've ever had, but perhaps one of the best Sandwitches I have ever put in my mouth. It was like I was tasting god itself and took me over 10 minutes to recover. Highly recommend.

Two words.. Utterly Delicious! Seeing the long queue, I decided to give this place a try. The Banh Mi's are a delight. I tried the Trang special and Crispy Pork roll. Both were fingerlicking good! The pork meat was extremely tender and juicy. Absolute one of my top picks for Vietnamese rolls. It's likely you have to queue up for 5 10 minutes as it gets extremely busy though serving is quite quick. I would absolutely recommend crispy pork and Trang special. Will surely go back for the Trang special roll and try out the other items. Great food at a good price. Definitely worth the wait.

Best quick lunch in Camberwell, kind and friendly service. Be aware, there is always a big queue at lunch, but I guess this shows how good it is! Staff are also very kind and I usually leave with a free spring roll. Prices also very fair given quality.

Great Vietnamese take away food shop Great food, nice staff

Used to be good but no or limited pate and fairly dry. Travelling well on their reputation.

Absolutely love Trang. The Banh Mi’s are great. Several vegetarian and even vegan options. Does get extremely busy during lunchtime and you’re likely to have to queue up for 10-15 mins so go early or later and you should be served pretty much straight away!

Very disappointed with the service I ordered a pork roll without chillies and instead had chillies in it asked for soya sauce with my dim sims never got any! Then after paying the girl just walked away without handing my receipt and immediately started serving another customer. Myself and work colleagues wiil not be visiting again in the near future!!

Wow, this place is always a treat, such affordable food and amazing vegan and vegetarian options, we had crispy pork roll and vegan barbecue pork roll, both were amazing, very decent serving sizes as well

Greatest Banh Mi. Absolutely delicious! And the staff were very friendly and efficient as well. Highly recommend this place next time you are in Camberwell!

Our go to for Banh Mi in Camberwell. Consistent quality banh mi. Missing the amazing pate that I am used to; having been brought up with Springvale quality banh mi in my childhood. The fried rice was a let down. Should have gone with crispy pork instead. Line was long but moves quickly.

Food was great!
bahn mi was delicious, friendly staff and quick service if your in a hurry. Your looking around $7 per roll but it is absolutely worth it. 👍👍

Taste of their food is amazing! Best roast pork in Melbourne. I had nothing complained about their food. However their staff didn’t wear gloves when they were handling cash and food. I hope they can improve the kitchen hygiene.

Intrigued by the long queue when passing by the other day and decided to give it a try. The serving is actually very quick as the queue is moving really fast. So don't get intimidated by the length of the line.

I ordered their Trang Special, which turned out so tasty. Will definitely go back try the same or other items for a quick and delicious lunch.

Finally got to try this Camberwell gem. Always have long lines during lunch and it’s worth it. I got crispy roast pork banh mi and requested some chilli in it. Good flavours and textures, spot on with the roast pork. Only suggestion is that it’s not the best banh mi bread, considering it’s a bakery. Still, I’d go back and queue for it if I’m in the area. Pleasant staff too.

Crispy pork Banh Mi was good. Cracklings was very good. The sauce had a nice touch to it having fried garlic through it. However it was too much sauce for me. Bread roll was ok, no the best not the worst.
It can get pretty hectic around lunchtime, but the wait is worth it if you get the roast pork. I mean it's quite good quality, but it's a bit overpriced for my liking. If you're in Camberwell and looking for a lunch that's under 15 dollars I recommend this.

Ps: If you say cmon, cmon to the people behind the counter just before they hand you your meal, they sometimes give you a free spring roll, here or there. It means like thankyou, thankyou. It's worth a try.

Came here for the crispy pork (which we've missed out for for a few months since moving to Camberwell) and ordered a crispy pork fried rice. Came out and it was a big beautiful bowl of fried rice + the most beautiful crispy pork + salad + an extra bbq pork on top. So exciting.
Also the food was amazing and the pork melts in your mouth. 11/10. Look at that pork!!

It gets hectic during lunch times here. The roast pork banh mi I got was ok but not anything exceptional. The pork was seasoned heavily with spices and was an overpowering flavour. The Vietnamese ice coffee was nice and the fried rice was decent.

The crispy pork roll is to die for! Perfectly cooked pork belly with the best crispy skin - flavour explosion! Plus the service is nice too, def recommend if in Camberwell.

Banh Mi in Camberwell? Sometimes dreams do come true!

This perpetually busy little cafe serves deliciously amazing Banh Mi. Their rolls are always fresh, crunchy and exciting. The crispy pork has the prerequisite crispy skin (how do they do it?) and is to die for. The Banh Mi is always stuffed full of fresh crispy vegetables which balances out the pate and meat.

Don't be intimidated by the long queues at lunch time. It's well worth the wait for a little taste of Vietnam!

They have one of the best Crispy Pork rolls in Melbourne. Very reasonably priced too. Often a long line waiting to order but well worth the wait.

A Camberwell classic, always good and super fresh. Each day they prepare the vegetables which is really nice and means that even if you get Trang's at the end of the day, it's still good. They also are understanding if you are gluten free, as they have different salad options. If you're going, for sure get the crispy pork, it's really yum

Had walked past this place a few times previously and noticed the long lines, so figured it had to be worth a look. Today had the crispy pork banh mi, definitely on the pricier side of things at $8.50 but stuffed full of salad, a very generous serving of pork as well as extras peanuts which you don’t usually get elsewhere. Very tasty.

Was expecting better, but the pre-made rolls really put me off. I was expecting rolls to be made to order as is usual in vietnamese bakeries, but all the partially filled rolls are sitting on the bench waiting for meat fillings. And they're not generous either. Three strands of carrot and two wilted bits of coriander are not appealing. Don't know what all the fuss is about. By the time you get it, the rolls are soggy.

Great variety and you can’t beat their price. There’s always a line around lunch time and is quite popular among office workers in the area. Friendly service.

This place looked a little busy so I thought I would try it out. I ordered a barbecue chicken roll. The overall flavours were good. I was envisioning bbq chicken in my roll though, the chicken seemed to be more like a curry chicken rather than a BBQ chicken. The roll tasted good but I was quite disappointed with not getting BBQ chicken.

Banh Mi is best in Melbourne and, after recently visiting Hoi An and Hanoi, they are ever better than those in Vietnam. Do yourself a favour.

One of the popular banh mi plces in camberwell and there is always a queue. We had the vegan chicken and tofu because they ran out of eggplant fritters which is amazing. You get a pretty good portion for $6 so its a bargain compared with anything else around the area
Hân Trịnh
The best Vietnamese bakery in Camberwell! Their bánh mì is always crispy and tasty with generous stuffings. It tastes even better thanks to super friendly, happy and smiley staff who seem to love serving their customers all the time. Highly recommended.

It's great having an authentic Banh Mi spot in Camberwell, as the area is known for washed out Asian cuisine. The rolls are just like those on Victoria Street, and close to the same price. For $6, you can grab a BBQ pork, which is always jam packed full of meat and fresh salad. The Trang special is also a winner. The bread is also very fresh. Service is fast and cheery. One of my favourites in the area, for sure!

I went there for a quick takeaway lunch and couldn't be happier with my choice. Their vegan duck is a game changer (just look at the photo!). I need to come back and try their meats as they smelled and looked delicious. And it's a great value for the money ($10 for a really fresh and filling Bun Salad).
Melbourne Epicure
This is a favorite of mine in the area. It’s not fancy in the slightest, nor is it, by far, the best Vietnamese in Melbourne but it is cheap and cheerful. I either get a crispy pork Bahn Mi (great value as they load this thing with stuff (not just the crispy pork but other best-not-to-ask meats, crackle, peanuts, etc.) or a crispy pork vermicelli noodle salad and then walk to the nearby park or bring it back into the office. Lots of flavor. The staff are always friendly and despite the long lines it usually goes by pretty quickly.

I came at 11:30, no customers so food was made super fast.
I had the vegan duck salad bowl which was really lovely.
Husband had the crispy pork roll - he thought it was delicious.

These guys make some of the best bahn mi in Melbourne. Always super fast with their service and ingredients are flavoursome and fresh. To top it off their Vietnamese ice coffees are amazing. I only wish this was open on a Sunday for a perfect lunch snack when visiting the Camberwell markets!
Matt
Best Vietnamese roll I've had in Melbourne. The crispy pork was really juicy which makes all the difference. The staff have a permanent smile and listen well to your needs. Prices are good although the outdoor seating right next to the outlet is bit dark and dingy. You are better off scooting around the corner to the outdoor car park (where the Sunday market is held) where there's some lovely shading trees and useful seats.

Went here for lunch, best to get in before 12 otherwise you will be in a long queue down the street! We had the Vietnamese salad (BBQ chicken) and it was delicious and fresh. Husband got the BBQ pork fried rice (not a salad lover) and again was very tasty. Lovely people behind the counter. I'll be going every week. Would go every day but trying to show some restraint!

Trang's was a blessing in disguise! We were craving a Vietnamese roll and The crispy pork really hit the spot! We were unlucky that they didn't have BBQ pork or chicken left (it was late in the afternoon) but lucky that a fresh crispy pork was brought out for us. Amazing. Generous, large serving! More expensive ($8 for crispy pork) than what I've experienced in other areas but definitely worth it. The service was also super friendly which was nice!
Two Chips
This is the best place for a Vietnamese roll in the suburb. Great service, ample serving, and the owner is kind and generous. Two apprentice tradies pulled up to get lunch, only to get a parking fine for the 10 minutes they were there. While pleaing to deaf ears of the inspector not to fine them almost 2 days pay, the owner gave them their lunch for free! Saying "you just have bad luck, you need good luck now". Wow!
Michelle
Best banh mi ever!! The line to this place is always so long. White bun can sometimes be a bit too dry and crusty so order the wheat bread its more soft
Li-La
Authentic Vietnamese bakery with yummy rolls (porc, chicken, vegan options...), salads, spring rolls, rice paper rolls etc. Friendly efficient service and some outdoor seating on the pavement. Great for a quick delicious Vietnamese roll!
Food Coma Survivor
Crispy pork bahn mi is to die for! I love it. Great buy for 8$, a massive sandwich with toasted bread, stuffed with pickled veggies, crispy pork belly, paté and a delicious sauce. Staff are friendly. The best quick bite to get while waiting for the tram outside.

Delicious!!! One of the best places to go for chicken rolls. They always add plenty of chicken plus some delicious fried onion pieces. Awesome place for affordable lunch in Camberwell

One of the the very few places where bread rolls are better then in Vietnam. Banh mi is not the cheapest here, but one of the best in the city. I used to go to Collingwood just for their bread rolls, really they opened up a spot in camberwell.
Gavin Roberts
Fresh and tasty rolls, a little on the pricey side but it is Camberwell! More authentic than Jenny's bakery up the road...best I've found nearest the junction.
Katherine McRae
Love this place!!! Trang has the most Vietnamese rolls/bowls near the Camberwell market. All menu items are very cheap, and taste amazing. This is a favourite lunch time place for most of Camberwell.
VegoLover
For $6 a roll you can choose from lemongrass tofu, vegan duck, vegan chicken or vegan fish. The most popular mock meat is the fish (soy protein) and least popular is the chicken (gluten).
The chicken has a mushy texture whereas the duck also made of gluten is harder and more chewy.
Tried the tofu today and it's marinated with a nice ginger sauce. Coriander adds flavour to the salad roll.
A quick and cheap lunch takeaway. Expect a long queue around 12pm.
