Review Palace Hotel - Camberwell

Best wings I've tried in Melbourne, if you're searching for a place to hang out with friends, drink some beers, listen good music or watch a match while you are eating good. This is the place.

Great food. Big plate size and quality. Staff were super nice and helpful but not over the top. Relaxing atmosphere.

1 star is too many. Had to have a massive argument with the assistant manager as they tried to deny entry to my friend with a dog guide. Even when the owner confirmed he was in the wrong, he had to be pushed to apologise. Any other establishment would immediately apologise if their staff did something wrong, and would offer you something on the house by way of apology. He had to be pushed to offer my friend the words "I'm sorry" and a free beer by way of apology for conduct that wasn't just rude, but illegal. And thene he kept being rude. He also admitted to us that it's not the first time he has denied service to people with service dogs and seemed almost boastful in telling us that. So to reiterate, the assistant manager has no understanding of basic hospitality, customer service, a very bad attitude, has no understanding of the laws his business has to run by and is proud of himself for being this way. If feeling welcome in hospitality venues or, Inclusivity matter to you, don't go here. There's plenty of other local businesses that would happily take your money and make everyone in your group you feel at home.

I've been to the upstairs private function room for a couple birthdays. And last week on the Saturday I came here for a school reunion. We had reserved three tables for the evening. We were told by the staff at one point to be seated and not stand in the way of the live music (I thought that was a bit ridiculous) but I suppose it was for the sake of the performers and other patrons. Overall, the pub itself has good food and drinks. Thank you! Update: I came here again with a couple friends. We ordered the chicken Parma and beef burger with chips. Unfortunately the drink (just a lemon lime and bitters) took 20 minutes to arrive and we had to remind the staff to actually bring it out. Other than that, the service was pretty good and the food was tasty. Thank you Palace Hotel staff :)

Great friendly staff and the local patrons are as well . When a band is playing , it's really a fun night . TAB and plenty of pokies as well .

Worst food in Melbourne even for just pub food and left plates just cleared and don't ask. Typical conglomerate don't care and yet Melbourne all over is food heaven

The palace is a convenient place for us to get together for a drink.but, over the last few months, the bar staff are not as friendly. It does not make me want to come here anymore. The bar staff just stand behind the counter talking to each other, don't acknowledge you, barely serve you, bare minimum words. My friend was waiting for a drink in another part of the counter, the staff member attended him and went and poured a drink but left it on a different counter. Instead of delivering it. Unacceptable! Actually, I would not even give this place one star any more!

This is the first time I’ve been to this pub. When I was there the place was packed and the service spot on, as it was friendly and attentive.

I ordered a Melbourne Bitter, which is a beer that I don’t generally order. But I was pleasantly surprised as the beer was cold and tasty.

My partner ordered a Gin and Soda which was also pretty good too. There are so many specials on here each day which was good to see.

There was a band setup ready to go, but as this was a pre dinner drink I couldn’t stay to hear the band. But I’d be happy to go back.

Called in for a beer & a quick bite with a couple of friends after work.
Cheap Burgers @ $12-, can't beat that value.
Nice & relaxed, then back on the train & home.
Too easy.

came for a birthday on Saturday night and actually enjoyed the night, the Palace had great live music going and it was awesome

the food was pretty average, i had the salmon which was cooked well with a crunchy skin and tasted good, was not a huge fan of the mashed potato though. I loved the lemon and pepper calamari, they were really crunchy and cooked well!

the service was friendly and quick too!

Came for steak night and walked away not amazed but not incredibly disappointed either. $13 steaks with chips and salad. The rump was quite fatty in sections. My steak was overcooked but the salad and chips were definitely a highlight as well as the mushroom sauce. You can't do a swap for veggies for free which I found disappointing and it comes with a large surcharge. Overall not bad for a cheap feed.

Lived in the area for over a decade and passing this pub countless of times but never went in until just last weekend.

Place is surprisingly better than expected. Had Parma and partner had the beef pie, taste better than lots of other 'fancier' pubs around. Really enjoyed the chips that came with the Parma.

The pal is a classic, local establishment which my friends and I frequent for catch ups and cheap dinners when we can't be bothered dressing up, wearing makeup or generally making any effort in our appearance. Can't go past the Parma which is always delish, however can't stand it when the Parma is on top of the chips 🙄

Food is good but you have to do something about the tv's, the projector screen is terrible, can barely see the picture, and the tv on the back wall near the men's bathroom needs replacing, for a grand final, you would expect better

Pleasantly surprised with the Angus beef burger. Great flavour and served with decent amount of chips. The parma was good as well just not as big as expected for a Parma

This is our local pub and every time we come I get the schnitzel that comes with vegetables and mashed potatoes, and a side of gravy. After having to repeat my order 3 times to the waitress that was cleary cracking under pressure, I walked away with my partner saying "I bet you we get the wrong order" .. And boy wasn't I right. My plate came to me served with a schnitzel and side of carrot and asparagus only, I said to the waiter that this meal comes with mashed potatoe, and I also had gravy too. After it seemed to much of a hassle for the waiter who obviously didn't know there own menu and what came with what, I had to tell him to forget about it. He then after knowing my order was incomplete and that I was unhappy, said ok and left it at that. I was then left with an incomplete meal which cost me $18.. Just for a schnitzel and a few veggies on the side, not even any gravy. After being a regular who comes here at least once a week, a found this service unacceptable and beyond rude and will find it extremely hard to come back. What a rip off it turned out to be.

Refused s drink. Completely sober. Refused a drink on basis of some bar persons' opinion. No explanation. By the way the way, pub only 1/4 full at the time. Not sure what their policy is. Quite insulted. Went to great bar 30 seconds walk away. Great service at alternative venue.

Think we may have found a new local - nice unpretentious pub with tasty & good value food. No complaints, will be back!

Thumbs Up. I'm a regular visitor to the Palace and they've never let me down. A great selection of beers and ciders on tap at good prices and the bar staff are always friendly.

The food is your regular pub gub, I'm partial to the Glazier's Pie and the Chicken Parma which are always good quality, plus the pool tables are an added bonus.

If you're a local, you've been here already, but I'd recommend the Palace if you're after some good pub food with a decent atmosphere.

Fantastic meals and service. Love this pub, right in the heart of Camberwell. The food is fantastic pub gub with an ever changing and varied specials board. Great atmosphere when the footy is on with the big screen a huge plus. Lots of different beers and ciders on tap and a huge range of spirits. We will definitely be back !!

Worth a visit. We really enjoy coming to the Palace for a decent pub meal, great selection of beers on tap to keep the hubby happy and we always seem to order off the chef specials for that something more than your pub staples. Well worth a visit!

Great set up with tvs. Go.... Great set up with tvs.

Good value for money and solid kids menu

What a joke! Way to hard to order some food. Get sent from one part of the establishment to another. No one made it easy to order a ham and cheese toasted sandwich! Seriously. I was made to look like a fool. Do not expect to have an enjoyable experience here. Good luck Palace; you'll need it.

Comic Sans BS. The food is serviceable, but a $22 parma is FAR too much to pay for any place that still uses Comic Sans on its menu

Frequent visitor of the palace. Food is decent, great spot to watch the footy. Cale behind the bar is an absolute legend !!

Decent - good pub meal. Went back to the palace for the first time after several years, and i must say, what an improvement this place had after my last visit there. the decor and the ambiance is pretty much the same , but i notice the food has really taken a step-up. My missus had the salmon while i had the barramundi special (wrapped in banana leaves, with an Asian salad and a really refreshing tangy/ sweet kind of dressing), and my friend had the chicken parma. All food are cooked to perfection and we all loved them (we really liked the barramundi in particular, because it is different, and it's not your typical pub grub). If the boys in the kitchen can keep up with this kind of food, then we will definitely be back in the near future.

A++ geat pub!! one of the best pubs around, counter food for champions and very friendly staff. I strongly reccomend having a go at the pie as it hasnt missed a beat. the whole menu is a winner. Give it a go

Long live the palace. To review The Palace is to admit that you've been there. Sadly, here goes...
The Palace is a staple of Camberwell, but only in the form of a cautionary tale for parents to raise their children right. A recent renovation improved the decor, and a lot of attention to the menu has lifted the calibre of the cuisine, but the smoking area will always be the meeting place for the "there, but for the grace of god" society.
There are some things to be impressed by, though. The draught beer selection is larger than anything for miles, and the quality of what's on tap is impressive, too. The service has risen, but there was only one direction it could go. They're open on Mondays, when Bar None is closed. And, of course, The Palace is convenient to the train line - for the purposes for train surfing, as I'm sure so many of their patrons do (train surfing is natural selection for Generation Y).
But the music is awful, and if they turned it down by 50% it would still be too loud. The bar smells like the bathroom, the bathroom like an abattoir. And the stoned, unwashed, stonewashed, patrons stare at you as though they'd like to steal your wallet, keys or teeth.
But otherwise, it's great.

Terrible food. I asked for my steak medium rare and it came well done and charred with lumpy mash potatoes and what looked like a freezer pack of frozen "Asian veggies". Awful, can't believe I paid $32 for that, will never eat here again.
Tom
Good but pricey for a pub. They are really trying at the Palace. The menu is varied and interesting and food comes out hot and well prepared. Only gripe for me is that some of the dishes are really restaurant prices as opposed to pub prices but hey ho....you get a band or artiste on most nights and there is a cracking selection of tap and bottled beers.
Overall a pleasing experience
Boccadellaveritas
Taste buds go here to die. No. No. No, please don't go. This pub should have smoke, vomit and sadness detectors installed in the toilets. Horrid place.
Abed Nadir
$14 pot and Parma, can't complain about that. Pub meals at pub prices.

My new local!!!. Moved back in to camberwell a few months ago and checked out the good (well not always) old palace. Wow different pub to a few years back. Its actually a good venue again and with friendly staff! Its always nice to walk into the toilets and can smell that they are clean!!!!
Had the calamari salad and i would re-order that next time im back for sure! My boyfriend had the parma and loved it. (nice to not see process chicken for a change!) Food is fresh. :)

Think we have found our new local. Its got a good feel to it and yummy food, i want to go back and check out the music.

Chicken Parmigiana. What a rip off - $22 for a parma which is half the size of any parmas you'll find anywhere else in Melbourne.

On top of that - it tastes like artificial chicken seasoning that you'd find in a packet of Samboys chicken crisps.

Dislike!
Renee
Good meal, but prices are way to pricey for pub food. Most staff are grumpy and refuse to smile.
Heptat
Way too expensive. Typical barely decent pub food at Camberwell prices - way too expensive.
