Review Shanghai Dumpling & Noodle - Camberwell

Food was very tasty. Dumplings were very tasty and it was complete value for money. It was evident from the taste that the meat was also very fresh. I would highly recommend this place to my friends and family members.

I just reviewed that Taos dumpling has some very awful tasting dumpling using not-so-fresh mince. However Shanghai noodle has the best dumpling in town!!!! We always order the pan fried pork dumpling and the Shanghai fried noodle. Very reasonably priced. Haven't tried other dishes. If you are a big fans of dumpling you can't miss it!

The steamed buns were alright, but the dumplings were so tasty and delicious that they alone carry the five star rating. Made in house, the dumplings are beautiful to look at and taste great too!

Took mummy here for lunch yesterday. Shes extremely fussy and not a huge fan of tofu. But the spicy hot pot and pork mince with the sticky rice was finger licking good good great! And so cheap $30 fed three people.definately will be heading here again. So close. Saves me travelling to chinatown. Little oily and salty but authentic yummo.

Ordered two dishes here, pork and prawn wonton in soup and Singapore fried noodles. The picture in the menu showed the soup was clear, but when it came out, it was dark. Basically just water, soya sauce and sprinkles of spring onion with wontons. The wontons were dry and had no flavour, maybe thats why its soaked in soya sauce soup. Singapore noodles turned out to be shanghai noodles instead. Insisted that we ordered Singapore noodles, but waiter said and I quote “no, I’m not wrong, you ordered shanghai noodles”. Clearly I didn’t know what i wanted when i looked at the menu. Showed me the picture again and i pointed to the Singapore noodles and she says “next time”. Sure, maybe another lifetime.

A hidden gem amidst Camberwell Bourke St precinct. Excellent dumplings with generous portions. A must try place.

My takeaway dumplings and noodles were tasty as; the pricing was reasonable and the staff were very friendly - great customer service, highly recommend.

Had a lovely dinner here with family - thoughtful service & authentic dishes to share. Tempted to try the dumplings next time (｡ì _ í｡)

I asked for a high chair but the lady told me that their high chair is very dirty, so it persuaded me not to have one. It’s nice of her being frank telling me this.<br/><br/>The food has a HUGE room for improvement. We ordered wontons and dumplings, both with fillings very hard, juiceless, tasteless. Only food that has been sitting in the freezer for several months can achieve this level of poor texture. Hot and sour soup is tasteless. My guess is that because the food needs time to unfreeze that made the order took so long to come. Long wait is common in other comments too.<br/><br/>The service, fluctuates like a roller coaster. We had been treated normally when we entered. I saw other customers seemed to have been treated normally too. But something must have triggered the lady waitstaff’s nerve and then she bursted into savage, which will not be restated here so as to be polite. I hope she hasn’t had too bad a day that she threw her temper at us, or her boss hasn’t exploited her too much which made her such emotionally unstable at work. Hope she is fine now. The staff were friendly and helpful . We had chicken and prawn dumplings and beef dumplings . They were both very nice . I enjoyed the experience.

Just ordered takeaway for 2 from this place about 20 mins ago. Ordered the Fried Pork Dumplings and Steamed Chicken/Prawn dumplings. When we got home, realized they did not provide any vinegar sauce. Lucky had bottle of black vinegar at home. The fried pork dumplings were average at best. Didnt taste very fresh. The lowlight was the steamed chicken/prawn dumplings. It was hard, felt like it was probably in the freezer for a month and then steamed too long and left to dry out. Your better off buying some frozen dumplings from Woolies. Very disappointed. Had lived in the area around 4 yrs ago and this restaurant was one of my go to cheap eats. Maybe they just had a bad night. Might give it another shot but not anytime soon.

The dumplings are very freshly made, speaking as a Chinese. The wait time is consequently longer but I would certainly return just for the dumplings.

We come here every Friday for lunch and so far,<br/>it's nothing but a positive experience. They have generous servings and their dumplings is the best!The staff have always been pleasant to us too. We'll certainly stick to this place for a perfect dining experience.

Super delish Dumplings and very affordable! The pan fried beef would be my recommendation, looking forward to coming back here again for some more!

The place is real close to our apt and is the go to place for my wife and I for vegetarian dumplings (fried and boiled). We have mostly always had dumplings here, but they have a comforting bean curd soup. Would recommend anyone to give it a go !!

Based my review purely against other dumpling houses I've visited in Melbourne as opposed to 'all restaurant types'. Dumplings here are beautiful and are made in house, the chef/owner was super friendly and gave us a mini class on dumpling making. The staff here are very friendly and really helpful even though we had a slight language barrier, we got there in the end! Had the pork in chilli oil dumplings, fried beef dumplings and shredded pork and ginger plate. Was top notch food and one of the better dumpling houses I've made a pig of myself at...

Ordered takeaway here after moving into the area not that long ago. Looking for a regular place to get some beef with black bean sauce and dumplings. When we asked for no veggies in our beef we were then instead given a half empty container which cost us about $16? Rip off. When discussing this with staff it was not a simple no worries we will fix this, it was a long discussion in a different language which is quite rude to do in front of customers who obviously don't speak the language. Which then resulted in them giving us another half serving. Other than this the food did taste good however after this experience we will go elsewhere. Unfortunate. <br/><br/>Also the photo attached was after they added more beef.

The flavour of the food here were suprisingly good! Fried shrimp was sweet but i like it, but for those dont like sweet, better dont order. Pan fried Chicken and prawn dumpling was okay, pork and prawn wonton soup was okay too, shanghai noodle was good, and spicy beef was okay. I think they just hv to improve on the service, servany wasnt smiling and awkward, owner had guest over and talking super loud.

Dropped in for some dumplings after searching around for somewhere to eat. Absolutely perfect. Skin was delicious and perfectly cooked, filling was tasty and well balanced. Will be back, I think it will replace my usual.

Best dumplings this side of town I'm surprised people aren't queuing out the door- highly recommend their vegetarian dumplings! <br/><br/>Service is good and food is made reasonably quick!

Nice decor and very good dumplings. We had the chicken and prawn dumplings which had a nice ginger hit, but not a lot of flavour. We also had the prawn and Pork dumplings in soup. These were really good in a very good dark broth. <br/>Prices were reasonable for Camberwell. Dumpling dishes both 9.80 and $2 for a thermos of Chinese tea.

Sorry to say family was disappointed with the food and service. Starters came out after mains. Soup was in edible - hot and sour. Mains were over prices for quantity and taste was just ok. Do not recommend.

I am never disappointed when I eat here. The dumplings are so flavorsome and cooked to perfection every time. The servings are generous at great prices too :) love having this little gem so close to my home! Keep up the excellent work guys! X

I wasn't a fan I'm afraid. Dumplings weren't horrible but the dough was rather thick and the wontons' stuffing didn't do it for me. Odd texture too. The broth in my wonton soup was super salty and almost supermarket-beef-stock like. No nice Asian flavors coming through. The rest of the stuff around our table didn't look any better. I won't come back.

WARNING DO NOT ORDER FROM THERE!! these people don't care about customer service or wether or not their food is of good standard.<br/>The manager or supervisor on duty tonight was so rude to me on the phone it was not funny.<br/>I called to order a delivery based on the photo that they had on their take away menu which they posted the week before through my door.<br/>Anyway the first guy on the phone tells me that they don't surve that food there, so i asked why have they got a photo of it on the back of their menu. He couldn't answer properly anyway as a result I ordered something else and food arrived 45 mintes later it was dry and tastless. <br/>So when I called to complain the guy put his manger on the phone who told me that I should have just hang up the phone when I was told they don't surve what is on the photo of their menu. He was raising his voice and even told me that the guy that took the order is new.<br/>He then hang up the phone on me and I called back 3 times and he kept hanging up the phone. I called back to ask for my money back but he wouldn't allow me to speak and kept hanging up.

This place has new owners and a brand new Menu. The new family at Shanghai make their dumplings fresh everyday and I tell you they really are the best dumplings you will find this side of the city.... I even rather here than box hill. The soup dumplings ( xiao long Bao) are AMAZING . Pan fried pork a close second ! Other dishes of note - sweet and sour shrimp and the soups! Actually to be honest I have yet to order anything off the new menu I haven't enjoyed . So far I have been back every week since they took over for my dumpling fix .

Needed a quick dinner and this place was great! The vegetarian dumplings (both steamed and fried) were really yummy ☺️ not overly expensive either. Happy to go back and get them any time I feel like dumplings

Ok dumpling restaurant in Camberwell junction. The dumpling skin is fine enough but the dumplings themselves are not great. Not a bad option for a quick dinner but there are much better options nearby. Also D was disappointed as the chilli sauce had a really weird flavour.

Area is a bit of a dead zone when it comes to dumplings. Eatable dumplings the simple layout which lets it down a little bit. Didn't enjoy the pork roll as much as the dumplings.

Just discovered this little place recently. Appearance could do with some work but food is always cheap and tasty. Fried dumplings always impress and entrees are always yummy. Mains and rice could do with abit more work. Will continue to visit this restaurant for the friendly takeaway service

Absolutely terrible. The only reason this review gets a 1, is due to the half decent dumplings. Ordered the Mongolian Beef and got reheated left overs. Lumpy sauce. Dead dry rice.

An attack to your senses in a bad way. Was there this afternoon and ordered veg dumplings, chicken and corn soup, veg noodles and spicy beef and rice. Yeah..true the selction sounds great but what came to the table...was simply an attack to ones senses. The dumpkings tasted so synthethic, the chicken and corn soup had no flavour at all. The veg noodles were tossed with boredom and the spicy beef was an angry representation of the chefs time spent in the kitchen..will I go back there...not even to ask for directions.

I have been here a number of times and have never been disappointed. Tasty, well priced food and friendly service. Dumplings are especially good.

Great little dumpling spot!. My friends and I come here on a near weekly basis for the cheap, delicious dumplings! The fried wontons and the pork dumplings are a winner! Never costs more than 15-20 bucks per person!

Ginger shreded pork. The peking pork dumplings are nice but I prefer the meat to be a bit more cooked. I tried the ginger shredded pork today. It was bad. It was sour, sweet, salty and spicy all at once. Too much sauce and the sauce was too strong. I threw half of it away. Service was good though.<br/>I am going to stick to the dumplings in the future.

Absolute bargain gem. Xiao long baos were made with fresh pork and sweet juice. Great local place to satisfy your dumpling cravings.

Great dumplings every time! If you are after your standard pork, beef, chicken and prawn dumplings this place makes great ones. The service is really friendly and very accommodating if you have a booking/group. The prices are reasonable, and relatively cheap. Does the dumpling job.

Disappointing Szechuan chicken. I had take away yesterday (Szechuan Chicken on Rice and Chilli beef on rice)<br/>and was very disappointed. The chicken was very oily to the extent that the rice<br/>had soaked up all the oil . Eventually after salvaging a few pieces of chicken I had to dump the rest in the bin. The chilli beef was OK. I will never again visit this restaurant.

I go here twice a week and order the Chicken & Prawn dumplings. Have nothing bad to say, dumplings are always fresh and taste delicious. Service is always quick and with a smile. Highly recommend.

Terrible service. Food took more than am hour and we were the only ones in the restaurant. Food was average.

Speedy and delicious. The veggie dumplings - pockets not too thick, don't fall apart when you pick them up, the filling is generous and contains a variety of ingredients.<br/>The noodles are excellent - I think home made. I had the spicy chicken noodle soup which contained a generous amount of diced chicken, onion, green pepper and carrot but came in a thick oily liquid which I didn't like - I prefer a clear broth. I'd go back again to try their other dishes.

Good food, reasonable price and service is not bad. We had lunch here today, we had shanghai dumplings (the one with the soup in them) which was very good, the freshness of the meat could be tasted. The pan fried dumplings and pumpkin cakes were good too. We had one cold dish, the drunken chicken. Although there were only five pieces in the serve, the meat was thick and tasty.<br/><br/>Defenitely would recommend anyone this dumpling place in camberwell!

Quick and Tasty. Went here using a Groupon voucher for all you can eat dumplings on a Tuesday night with my boyfriend. Nothing to complain about apart from we never got served our jasmine tea, but we didn't mind as we were too preoccupied with the dumplings. Dumplings were tasty especially the soup and vegetarian dumplings. The fried rice was pretty standard, nothing to exciting. Would definitely come back for dumplings if I was in the Camberwell area.

Tasty Xiao Long Pao. Used a voucher for 4 at this restaurant on Saturday for lunch. Nothing special about the dumplings except that the xiao long pao was good and something I would order. In the end, we asked for 2 further serves of it. No complaints about service as they were helpful enough to meet our requests for extra bowls, tea. etc. I rate this as above average compared to most of the dumpling places in Chinatown.

All you can eat. Very nice dumplings. The other food on the menu is average though. The service was terrible. We had an a groupon all you can eat voucher for 2. When we tried to order more dumplings we were first told - 'No, but you can order some later', then we were told we had to finish the 'family sized' plate of rice first (we were told off - we should not have ordered if we can't finish). We were then told a real doosey that they had run out of dumplings, and that we had until 9pm to order - our booking was at 8pm. After querying it - the woman (who I think was the owner) finally brought out some more dumplings. Strange experience...

While I won’t be quick to urge someone living on the other side of town to make the trek to Lucky Dumpling & Noodle Restaurant, I will still go there if I happen to be in Camberwell and I am craving dumplings – and that’s only if I can’t be bothered with the extra 10 minute drive to Box Hill for better ones.

We also had a bowl of the chicken and prawn dumplings in chilli oil soup. A hint of prawn flavour did come through in the filling, but the broth needed some of the table condiments added to give it some more depth.
