Review Dosa Plaza - Camberwell

Kaushal Patel
Hey there go back home before try food here.20 days older boiled veg as pavbhaji and black water added some boiled chhole. Literally how do they serve food like this. They might not cook good but at least they had some good food in past. They could at least do comparison what they are serving. One start for kulfi falooda; seemed readymade.

Food is ok for the price you pay. It was not busy so we did not have to wait much and the waitress were very nice. My Punjabi friend recommended the Punjabi thali there, however I found it a bit meh (I’m not Indian tho). Deserts on the other hand were yummy, specially the mango kulfi.

Great place to satisfy your Indian food cravings! The venue is spacious and really nice! Food is tasty and portions are decent! Although the wait time is a bit high. But when you get to taste the food it’s all worth it!

A vegan restaurant in Camberwell, dosa plaza has good ambiance with generous space, but the food quality highly disappointed me. We had ordered pani Puri, papdi chaat, masala dosa, Mexican rolls , vegetable platter , chilli garlic noodles and chilli paneer dosa. Papdi chat was the best Among all of these. The potatoes of pani puri were simple boiled and mixed with red chilli powder. The Vegetable platter had 3 vareities, paneer tikka, harabhara kebabs and onion bhajji. The paneer tikka was really good, but the onion bhajji was not cooked properly. They replaced the bhajjis after bringing it to their notice. Even a few of the harabhara kebabs tasted a bit strange but the staff denied of any problems with the harabhara kebab. The chilli Garlic noodles had no flavour of garlic, it was simply noodles mixed with sauce, there weren't even enough veggies in it. Same goes for Mexican rolls and chilli paneer dosa as well. They were very average. Most of the foods had too much of red chilli powder to make it spicy. One or two dishes may have problems but here none of the food we had ordered were upto the mark.

It's been a while since i have been there, Not sure if they are shut permanently. However the food when i visited them in early 2020 was amazing. Ended up having this amazingly plated and tasty dessert along with dosa's during the lunch. I would highly recommend visiting it if you are in the vicinity. However not a place i would travel miles for.

Great spot for a vegetarian meal. Open concept , high ceilings in a great neighbourhood. The meal was great . We even got a child seat. Everything looked yummy om the menu.

30 Minutes wait for 1 puri bhaji when there are hardly 2 tables in the entire restaurant. Food taste was below average. Went in expecting to have a good meal, couldn't say I had one.

Taste of food is different every time I visit. Which is why don't prefer to go there. However only good thing about the place is the Dosa. Its yummy always unlike other dishes.

The staff is so sweet and welcoming! The place is gorgeous and clean. The food however is a disappointment! Chaat is weird not the right quantity of sauces mixed. It's really bad Indian food, would advise to get a better chef
Quince And Cheese
Not sure why this place has such a low rating because I love it. Granted I've never eaten in but takeaway is great. You have to know what you're getting - this spot is an Indian fast food franchise, so quality is lesser than a table service restaurant, but the variety is massive and everything is veggie and flavour is spot on.

The menu offers Indian, Indo-Chinese and Italian-inspired food. The dosa list is extensive but the other options are just as worth a try. I love the paneer tikka masala, which is full of spice and heavy on the cheese. My favourite snacks are the samosa chaat and the sabudana vada, which are delicious fritters made with tapioca pearls. If you're after an interested variety of Indian Street snacks for an affordable price, this spot is great.

Warm and friendly staff but unfortunately the food is not upto the mark! We could taste the batter and the Sambar was sweet. Roast pudy dosa was not edible at all, pudy was powdered on the dosa instead of being made into a paste and spreading it on the dosa. Wouldn’t go there again.
MissBollywood4eva
The dishes we ordered were average. The gobi manchurian and the vada pav was the only thing I enjoyed, rest Amritsari kulcha, paneer tikka masala were average.

A great place with plenty of options. I have been here several times and they have delicious indo-chinese. The dosas are all time favourite. I was a little disappointed with the samosa chaat though. It was more of chole chaat and hardly could find the samosa in there. But, it still is a go-to place for dosas and indo-chinese.

A variety of Indian food with optable spice levels, and excellent ambiance. Loved the place on the whole for its maintenance. Must visit this place again.

Amazing Indian food, instantly takes me back to India... the punjabi thali is definitely a must try on their menu. The harra Bhara kebab were moist and full of flavour

Terrible experience...waited for more than an hour for food to be served..and food was pathetic too..Recruit more staff otherwise shut your business...not recommended at all.

I and my friends went to dosa plaza for birthday celebration. We had a very bad experience. Staff was rude and inconsiderate. Service was so poor and slow. Food was tasteless and cold. That day we all decided to never visit them again. Also they had posted add on Jora local for the vacancy and they pay just 10 AUD per hour to their staff. So naturally the staff would work accordingly. Shame.

Amritsari Kulcha is a must try for the people who love Indian spice. Chole Bhature and Paneer tikka masala was yummy too !Service was fast and good ambience/

This place is a good option for a special occasion dinner / lunch. We came with a large group (25) and took over a small area of the restaurant. Ordering via the paper system meant our orders came out quickly and with no errors. The staff were generally very attentive and pleasant. I had the Indo-Chinese meals and was very impressed. The thali is good value for money but depends on the dishes available. The rava dosa was delicious!

Hosted our baby shower party at this place which was a total disappointment for us. Being first time parents we were excited to host baby shower party at Camberwell dosa plaza as it had a private space from the rest of the restaurant but the management decided three days before the event that they would not be able to accommodate all our guests in the private space and will need to do it in the main space .. they put it in a barricade to seperate the crowd from our guests.. they promised it would accommodate 30 people which was a lie our guests had to sit in the cramped space... please re consider your decision of hosting a party at this place as the management is not at all friendly or co operative... inspite of booking this place 1.5 month in advance it was a total disaster for us... coming towards the food our buffet had hara bhara kebab which was too salty and subz biryani which did not have salt at all... Management did not even let us pack the food we had in our buffet table even after telling we did not want to refill... it was a total disaster and would never recommend this place to any of my friends and family... Regret choosing this place for our special occasion..

My experience was over whelming in Dosa plaza , the onion was so full of flavour , onions were really amazing and the masala dosa was full of right spices . Honestly, loved the coconut chutney.
Would definitely come back
Nirmala Banka
Delicious food. One of the best vegetarian buffet in Melbourne. Very reasonable and a lot of varieties . Recommended to friends and family to enjoy.
Sandeep Chawla
It’s really nice food and reasonable price too. And the location of the restaurant is perfect. Restaurant is also kids friendly as well with good staff
Vishal Palan
I have tasted buffet, thali , Dosa and lassi. In dosa you will find varieties like maysor, Chinese and many more.
Good food, nice songs playing around. Awesome place.

Went with a group of friends & where most were not from India or Indian origin. The idea was to expose them to one of the better known foods from India - DOSA.
We tried a varieties of dosa but none were that great. Dosas tried -
Harabhara Masala Dosa
Cheese Masala Dosa
Mysore Masala Dosa
Mushroon Masala Dosa

All dosas were either average or below average. On the contrary a friend tried ‘Chola Batura’, which was quite surprisingly good.

Given the name of the restaurant, Dosas should be better.
Mohit Jain
The food is amazing, excellent and perfect taste, but but but the experience, the staff ruins the meal.
We waited for almost 30 minutes for food and on enquiring without any concern, we were told to wait for another 20 minutes. 50 minutes overall is enough to spoil any good meal. Uber orders are more priority than in-house guest. I would prefer ordering takeaway due to amazing food quality and taste.

Beware, curries are oily and salty, bread is stale and soaked in butter and the "buffet" lunch I question how many times has been served. The pumpkin curry with potato is more a potato curry with pumpkin sauce. If your looking for Carbs galore this is your place and also if you have not eaten in a year, otherwise stay clear.

This place has such good food. I ordered steamed idlis, sizzler, Mysore dosa, spring onion dosa. All of them were impeccably good. Serving staff was prompt and polite as well. I dont know why this place has such low ratings

If this restaurant was a ship, Titanic would seem like a raging success. The speed at which our food came out made my grandma who uses a walking stick appear fast. The dosa was adequate, which is to say, average. The cashier seemed completely unbothered as we cancelled an order; I was more afraid she would cancel someone else's food if I am to be honest. The cutlery as you can see, has been cleaned with such a high standard as to satisfy a blind man. This culinary experience was as enjoyable as having a prostate exam with a rolling pin. All in all, a terrific example, on how not to run a restaurant.
San Kaur
Shit food. Very disappointed. They don’t even tale blame for their tasteless food, Forget about the exchange. Never ever in my life going there again.
KN J
The menu is pretty extensive. It makes it difficult to narrow down to one dish. We ended up ordering the masala dosa, rocket mysore dosa, bhature, red chilli dosa and some coffees.

We love the crispy and light dosas, the simplistic but flavoursome sauces and the hit of spices. The coffees were also nice. I'm unsure of why this places gets a lashing because I thought service was fine and the food came out in a timely manner.
Bodybuilder Eats
Pathetic customer service with disgraceful food. Spend like $60 and felt like wasted my time and money. Even a beginner who have no idea about cooking can literally go to Coles and buy all that stuff and make everything by himself
Hungry Gwendy
This place is a bit too underrated. Love the interiors and the maintenance of the place. I had ordered the mushroom noodles and paneer fried rice. I am not big fan of dosa’s tbh! Which is why I tried to have something different and to my surprise it was delicious !
Although the quantity is quite less for the price, which makes it look expensive. The service needs a bit more improvement. But overall the food 🥘 and ambience is good.
SrPr
Last minute planning and we reached this place for dinner.
The ambiance and lighting is great. The menu is too big and its hard to decide.

All dishes except the chilli paneer dosa were great may be because I didn't expect the taste.
The causal students who were doing the service were totally clueless,
Service needs huge improvement.
Sometimeseasame
Very suprised by the low rating this place has.
I have tried a variety of dishes from here and I have always been happy. When choosing a take out meal this is often our go to.
I would suggest going to try it yourself and make up your own mind. The food is very reasonably priced.
Snehajugs30
I ordered $60 worth of food which included Pani Puri, Sev Puri, Vada Pav and Pav Bhaji. The Puri was stale, not at all crunchy. The water provided with Pani Puri was tasteless. They added sriracha in my Sev Puri, you kidding me. I have tried their food a few months ago and was good but they have definitely dropped the ball. Saw their ridiculously low rating but thought I should give them a chance, BIG mistake. Please don't waste your money here. Awful meal
Atharva Nagar
It was disgusting. The service is very pathetic. They don’t have any idea about customer service. They bring stale food and dishes as per their whims and fancies. Never ever visit this place!
Bhavyang Pau
Punjabi Thali is my favourite! Great food quality especially in thali. Love the ambiance of the restaurant and it’d far better than other branches of dosa plaza.
Chirag.moorthy93
Extremely disappointing. Very bad quality food and service. The owners seem like nice people but they have employed unqualified cooks and waitresses.

The dosas and sambar were served cold, the dosa that was supposed to be spicy was sweet, the Gobi Manchurian had way too much cornflour and was inedible and the potato for the pani puri was sticky and microwaved.

To top it all off, the service was absolutely horrendous. We were made to wait a long time for our food and when we asked about it, one of the waitresses made a condescending face, mumbled something and just walked away.

We had an absolutely terrible experience and we are not going back again! Hope this doesn’t happen again to someone who goes in the future.
Khyati Raval
Food was good and great variety on menu however staff very unprofessional. They look very naive and inexperienced. Staff never greet you with smile and often have very unwelcoming look! When you go to a restaurant whole experience should count starting from ambience to hospitality to food. Ambience is not too bad view view however it gets very noisy. I go here for takeaways due to lack of hospitality and ambience however if they worked on it they can increase their customer base for sure

The ambience is quite awesome, spacious and not too crowded. The lighting is optimal and the decor is pretty decent.

The food is quite good. Many places that claim to serve Indian food uses a lot of spices. It is always balanced to get in the flavours but not to feel too satiated. The food is always pretty good and I have always enjoyed my food at the Dosa Plaza. Just make sure you order 1 portion across many dishes as the variety of the food is worth relishing. Keep a bit of space for dessert - the traditional Indian desserts are worth every bite.

The service is always friendly, courteous and very timely. The waiting staff are always cheerful and make you feel special without invading your space. The excellent service along with the lovely food makes every visit quite memorable. Would recommend this place to all friends in a jiffy and without reservations.

Very bad experience. Waited over 40 minutes for the food to arrive. We were there with two hungry kids. To top it all the food that arrived was bad. Sambhar wasn’t fresh. Tasted like days old. We didn’t eat any food after the sight of that and went straight to the counter to pay the bill. Uncourteous staff charged me $38 for the food we didn’t eat.

Don’t waste your money.
Juhi- Culture And Cuisine
Wow, the low rating of this place is actually surprising.

I have been to Dosa Plaza Camberwell a few times and have had wonderful experience each time. Have tried their Indian Chinese (loved it), chaat (wasn't as big a fan) and a variety of dosas (very yum).

The service is a bit slow but not too bad. Would recommend this place for sure.
Pratik Jariwala
Very bad eating experience...we had to wait more than 45 minutes for food on a day which seemed like a normal Saturday. The quality of food received was rubbish and stale. We had to leave without eating...
Sachin Tomar
Horrible service
Still sitting in restaurant and waiting for order since last 50minutes and order not in sight
Thinking if I cancel order and go home that probably would take lesser time

Have pleaded to staff to serve food 3 times but no one seems to care.

Decided
Never coming back in life to this place
Chris
I can believe that they have just simply HALVED their take away sizes. Ordered a Thali (sp). which is a mixture of 3 types of curry which used to be fairly good value. Now it is half the size with all containers only half full. Went there again and sure enough same deal. C'mon guys you are serving up Dhal and potatoes. Anyway have lost me as a regular customer.
Vinay Chauhan
We went for dinner recently. There were 3 of us. They served the dish for one of us after an hour or so and then after a wait for another 30 mins or so, the second person's dish was served and it took another 10 mins to serve my dish. The service is appalling. There is no professionalism in the service. If only the food had been worth waiting, I still wouldn't have been too much disappointed but the food that we had was so very terrible. The Dosa Plaza at Dandenong is not that bad. My wife regularly orders Paneer Tikka sizzler at Dosa Plaza Dandenong and she ordered the same dish here. It looked totally different and tasted so horrible. The paneer tikka was so very dry and it was served with schezwan sauce instead of the paneer tikka gravy. If we needed the sizzler with schezwan sauce then we would have ordered "Schezwan Sizzler" which was also part of the menu. When asked that this is not the way it is served in Dosa Plaza Dandenong, they advised that they have their own recipe for this dish. If that is true, then the recipe is ridiculous, you better follow the recipe followed by Dosa Plaza Dandenong. This place is now definitely in my "No Go" restaurants list. It was a very terrible service and extremely poor quality of food.

Came here late on a Wednesday night not expecting them to be too happy about it but they were absolutely lovely and the food was great especially considering the cost is very reasonable. Not really sure why this place has such a low rating - there is a massive selection of food and you can easily feed two people for under $40. Service was great & the setting was fine, no complaints.
Rhoda Camel
Service was painstakingly slow and food was extremely mediocre. Our dishes came one by one with at least a 20 minute wait between each one which made for a very unpleasant and uncomfortable experience. Do yourself a favour and eat somewhere else.
Renée Feikema
There we 11 of us last night (14/5/17) and we were disappointed with the service. The food was good but when a few of us explicitly asked for non spicy food, we received spicy food nonetheless. They brought the dishes again but it was disappointing. They were slow to provide water and enough glasses.
Gsethi78
The restaurant is over exaggerated! In their quest to add a new dimension to their menu, they have screwed up the basics of good indian food. The fusion hits hard on some food items!
Tanya Yadav
If you're in Melbourne and you want to feel like home, look up on the maps for any Dosa Plaza outlet and you won't regret having a meal here.
This restaurant actually gives you that Indian family lunch/dinner vibe. From the ambience to the food of course and to the staff, every little thing in this restaurant makes you feel like you're eating in India.❤️ I felt like I'm home.

Also I was impressed with the variety of Dosas that they offer, so many different types of Dosas and I ended up ordering my favourite - Paneer(Tofu) Masala Dosa, which was super delicious.

They also have some fusion Dosas on their menu which I'm definitely going to try the next time.

Their Chole (Chick Pea curry) Bhature (white fried bread) were by far the best I've had in Australia.

Gulab Jamun (dessert) was also delicious.

I love everything about this place, this is what I call a home away from home. :)
Chirag Shah
Service was all right even though it was quite .the food does not stand out .for pan bhaji portion to small.would not visit again .there are better places than this for same food and at food price .
Great choice for vegan/vegetarian food. We had South Indian dishes (they also offer Italian, Asian and Mexican dishes on the menu) - they were very good. The interior is beautiful, with well spaced tables and kept very clean and tidy. Certainly deserves a higher rating than what it has as of me me writing this review!
VegoLover
Lots of Asian vegan choices at this place but the Indian food is still most authentic.
Dal fry with garlic nan bread is our favourite.
The mixed platter is good way of tasting a variety of dishes with rice if you're hungry.
The Mexican dosa is good but really spicy.
Sizzling veggies smells better than taste.
Mango lassi is a delicious savior if you want to put some fire out & continue to taste other flavours.
Service is very friendly and meals are very good value for money.

Delish food! Gotten takeaway twice now and loved the food! Not the quickest to cook but I'll wait for the quality! Maybe order over the phone. Butter paneer is now my favourite! Yum!
Chirag Malvadkar
Very slow service. We have been told that it would take half an hour for a takeaway order but we were waiting for 1hr long and still food wasn't ready. It was Monday night not too busy just one table customers in restaurant and still made late. Very very bad service.
Santharam S
The restaurant certainly deserves a better rating. I have tried their Mysore Masals dosa and the paneer onion uthappam. Both were really good. The sambhar tasted really good .. Never expected Sambhar to be so good outside India... I also tried Chole Bhature... the curry was a bit South Indian style and Bhature was a bit oily too..
John Regos
Food was very good.
Service was a bit relaxed in my opinion. Staff walking around talking on mobile phones.

Glass of gold was $4 which was s not rich but all the food was readable priced. 2 vegetable curries was enough for 1 adult and 3 children.

Had enter of onion biaja and somosas. Very good.
Walter Mavely
i would rate it at 0 as the service was horrible as we weren't allowed to sit where we wanted to and the guy who was serving was horrible and unprofessional. Moreover we found an insect inside the masala dosa that we ordered and were questioned about taking video of the incident. we were about to report it to the food safety dept , but then we were bombarded with apologies and we left paying half the bill.
Now we are sure about a place that we will not visit again and we recommend not going to place as well.
Rob
Have dined here several times and always good food, good choice and good pricing. Tonight was a let down especially as we brought friends ,their first time. The rice came out after we had finished our mains so didn't get eaten,we use the rice as a base for the main, one main dish didn't arrive at all and no red wine in bottles. Has been no red wine bottles now for a month.
Reshendra Manthena
Great food with lots of dosa varieties. Ordered Cheese dosa, Chinese dosa and Manchurian idli and all taste very good. Sambar was excellent. Ambience was one of the best.
Dattha Moudgalya
That's one hell of a vegetarian restaurant. Really not sure why it is rated soo low, I can come up with some reasons why, but overall it’s a good restaurant.

Parking is a breeze if you have a GPS. Located in a convenient location and people who travel around the town for a descent vegetarian option, this is it! After all it is open most of the time.

The place isn’t that crowded and is a proper place for a meetup. The one thing I noticed the place should improve a lot is interaction of the staff with customers. 3 of 5 staff won’t smile at you and you feel like they have had a hard day and life. Again if staffs are in constant touch with the customers in store explaining what food contains and explaining it more and build a rapport, this place will be a definite hit! Because not all Aussies are experts in Indian food and contents you see.

Ordering food is old school style, you have to write down and handover them to the staff. Which is good and I like as it won’t give room for any wrong order. (Except there isn’t any eraser to correct your order and have to deal with small uncomfortable pencil).

Food rocks, served hot and fast, no comments on that.

Portions are satisfactory so are thee prices.

Editing my review after 5-7 visits:

This is the place to be. These guys have seriously considered all response, reviews from their customers and have increased the standards in terms of hygiene, hospitality and more. So going from 3.5 to 5
Joe
Question to owners. Why is this place referred as Dosa Plaza? When a simple dosa with a sambar and coconut chutney cannot be prepared properly. The sambar was simply too water-ish(just like rasam) and the coconut chutney was so cold that I had to add some water, chutney too felt like prepared in the morning as it tasted nearing its expiry...Terrible! Next on our table was mysore rava masala. The masala inside was so watery that the dosa was getting separated from the masala. My perception of panneer chilly dry was it is supposed to be chilly and offcourse dry.The chillies were no were to be seen and this came with a thick orange tangy gravy.complete disaster!!

And now to the main door of the restaurant, it's not been clearly highlighted or indicated which door to push whilst entering and there were people who actually tried walking through the glass door getting injury to their head...it was a frustrating experience...dint want to write such a review but I had to vent my frustration hoping this makes them better.
Alex Smale
Surprised by all the bad reviews - the food is really nice and affordable ( especially for the area). Dosa was really delicious !!!!!!!!!!!!!

WORST EXPERIENCE EVER, I went there on last Sunday night and it was not really busy at that time , I had mysore Masala dosa and Hakka noodles was terrible and sambar too but sabudana vada and harabhara kebab was really good (5 STAR ) . Service was very poor even they don't know how to serve food
Sangavai Karalan
The worst dosa's ever ! I'm from the south and trust me these taste really bad ! The 2.0 rating I've given is for the ambience and nothing else !
Shobha
Food and service is good but you've got to be very patient after ordering.. took more than 45 mins on a Tuesday night for the food to arrive, that too after complaining.. not a pleasant experience....disappointed.
Gunjita Gupta
These people offer the best dosas in town.!!
Have tried everything from dosa, noodles to punjabi thali and chole bhature and these people never fail to amaze..!!
The order might take a while but the good is tasty and worth the wait..!!
Luc Tardif
Really wanted to love this place but poor service (despite restaurant being almost empty), menu with too many items and very long wait for food (skipping a few other issues) tells me that this restaurant is not ready for prime time. At least food was ok when it finally arrived.

A good typical Indian place located at Camberwell. Their menu is very very fast. Literally spoilt for choice. We ordered a variety of things. The service is also very fast and the ordering system is also good as we have to write the order and just hand over the card to the waiter so there's a minimal chance for any mistakes in the order. The ambience is very nice but its noisy. The Veg 65 wasnt as good as expected because it was with a gravy instead of being dry. The mysore dosa seemed like a plain masala dosa but nevertheless it was good. The hakka noodles were very average. can be easily skipped. The Hara Bhara kebab and schezwan sizzler was amazing. Can order this totally. The Samosa chaat was very disappointing. Hot samosas and chickpeas mixed with cold curd. It was a disaster. The Mocha cold coffee was perfectly made. Can try this one. We ordered the pasta as it was vegan but they garnished it with cheese which wasnt vegan and hence that was a disappointment again.
Few hits and misses here and there but overall an average place to enjoy typical indian multi cuisine food.

Probably one of the worst restaurants I've ever been to. Not only were they slow to serve us but they managed to do the following
- charge us the wrong amount and were hesitant to fix this when we told them
- had some of the menu items marked vaguely that we had to clear it up with the staff who were not helpful/informed
- the items on the menu labeled GF/vegan had cheese in them which my friend is very intolerant to and left her with stomach pains shortly after

The food was also pretty bland, not to mention the waitress was all over the place and no one seemed to be trained properly.
Hardeep Singh
I will rate them zero. I took my family there..we waited for 45 mins for order to come out. Zero in table service . Never got our water top up for once. Food was very average. After waiting 45mins they served us only half of first course ..finally we took off without having second course.
MHW
I was hoping I could give lower than a 1.0... Oh wait on this system I can't...

1) horrible food - they claimed it was "organic/healthy" food on the signs outside and yet there's nothing organic or healthy inside

2) horrible ventilation - you dine in there and you come out smelling like the food you just had!

3) horrible service and wait time - took very long for the orders to arrive and service was non existence

Bring back He says she says!!!
MadaboutFood
Fantastic place to enjoy ur evening! Food is great without a second thought, staff are very well behaved and the most important strength of this amazing place is "its ambience" just felt so relaxed. Unlike other clumsy restaurants (where you can literally get to smell the aroma of the food served on side tables annoying your dinner enjoyment) here you can enjoy a very very spacious dinning!!

I am surprised to see the place having such a low rating....absolutely unjustified!! Therefore i always believe to try places despite of bad rating !! I would hv loved to rate the place a 5 star but unfortunately the blunt pencil ✏ provided ( may be by mistake) to us on table to write menu made me deduct the 0.5 rating !!!
Gaurav09005
Fantastic service and fantastic people to serve food..... Ambience is also good....
Quite different way to offer dosa... Not a traditional dosa food counter....
But I liked the contemporary part.... Can visit again to try something different....

Hello,
Went to Camberwell Dosa Plaza last night with my family and friends. Total 16 of us. Absolutely super good experience.

Excellent customer service (one of the best I have seen in Melbourne), excellent food (being from Mumbai - I know what its like) and hygiene standards are its best.

Can rate more then 5 stars if available.

Big thank you to all staff.
Archi Malik
I went to Dosa plaza camberwell today at 7:40 pm with my partner and a friend , irrefutably, I went there to get indian taste and food, however, the staff were so rude and they did not let us sit at sofa place saying that we are keeping this place for bigger crowd not for 3 people, they were being racist because we are Indian, there were 2 Ausize people already sitting but they did not allowed us to sit there, we felt so offended and had to return back without eating, it was so absurd, I want to tell you all that please don't go to such place where people treat you on basis of your skin, that's the worst place I have ever seen and felt so insulted. Though , there is no negative rating I could have given so just giving one.

I m writing here while sitting here.. I m so disappointed. The service is pathetic. The waiter didn't come to take our order. We had to chase him. Then haven't delivered order for 30 mins when he said he will get it in 15 mins. Food is average

the dosas were not outstanding but was definitely one of the nice places to have a dosa in melbourne. the ambience and service was very good. location is a plus too. the fusion dosa optio s were a bit out of the ordinary.

Very good place if you like Dosas. Tons of options. Fresh and tasty food. They have other Indo Chinese options as well. Definitely going back to try more from the menu.

Food and service are both average here. There is really no difference between the 3 franchises operating in Dandenong, Preston and Camberwell. However, I would agree with one of the reviewers below that Dandenong is marginally better than the other two, however, Dande branch is like eating in a food stall in a fair, not in a restaurant.

Don't go here expecting great service, food and drinks are brought to the table after you write your order down yourself and hand in the docket. The menu is a bit weird and confusing. We went for the dosa, Indian street food, but were confronted with mixed cuisines, from pasta, to Indian, to Chinese, to Mexican, all served in dosas! We stuck with the Indian section, and were quite happy with what we ordered, 2 entrees and 2 mains, but the mains came out while we were still having our entrees, despite asking that there be a gap. No BYO, but several wines available at the $35 to $40 mark.

Awesome south Indian and Indian Chinese food. Even the pasta tastes good. Good seating and staff, unlike the one in dandenong. Reasonable pricing.

Got a Groupon deal and seemed to be real good value. Booking process was fairly easy but seemed of no real value to the restaurant. We arrived on a hot day and appears the air con did not exist or was not working. It was 9:30 pm and everyone could be seen feeling a bit in discomfort. Food was okay, mango lassi not so good. The main issue was the masala in the dosa was bland with no flavour or spice. wife could have made a better one than what we had. dosa texture was good and crispy though. will probably not return or recommend.

I have been here 3 times now because I am vegan and appreciate the choice of dishes. I work nearby and the choice of places to go is limited. I usually order Vada Pav for entree which is really good and the mains so far have been ok. BUT, the service in this place is TERRIBLE. The first time I ordered take away they forgot to include the Dosa wrap. The second time I ate in and they spilled some of one of the sauces on the table and then didn't bother cleaning it up. The staff clearly have no idea about attentive and courteous service as evidenced constantly in their actions. The food takes FOREVER to arrive even when there is nobody else in the restaurant. When I complained, they really didn't care and gave me an explanation relating to food prep in time for lunch!! Wtf? So in summary, nice enough place, food ok, service woeful.

I should have read the reviews, rather than spoiling the evening. Royal Flooda Kulfi looks too tempting to resist but seriously don't fall for it. McDonald's vanilla ice-cream cone is much better.

Attended with a table of 4 and all our meals were served 20 minutes apart. No apologies were offered. Food was definitely not worth the wait. Idli's were cold and tasteless whilst the masala dosa was nothing special. Horrible service. Very disappointed!!

Good Menu, lots of Indian options, pure vegan, nice service. Good taste. Only problem with Mysore Masala Dosa, it seems they don't know the recipe of same.

Went there tonight with 6 members of my family as one member is vegan. Had an open mind and didn't expect a lot. We were all very pleasantly surprised, great value for money, delicious food, prompt service and enough variety to suit all.

Our young adult kids frequent hatted restaurants and enjoy fine food both here and overseas so we weren't sure how they would like the food.
Wahoo, they liked it all, having tried at least 5mains, a variety of of smaller snacks, ok wine.

Very friendly staff. Frequented by locals but also noticed many Indian background people here. Favourite dishes included vegetable jalfrezi, tasty dahls and lovely tandoori breads.

A great hit. Nice atmosphere!

Um. Ok here is the word which will describe this restaurant "Pathetic!". I was really keen to check out this restaurant and finally visited tonight and experienced the worst meal ive had in Melbourne. Eating in Restaurants is not just about food quality, there is one more important thing " service". And this restaurant is best in delivering worst service. Here you will experience eating main course before starters. We were literally waiting for 15-20 mins just for 4 rotis everytime we ordered. If you wanna go there go on your own risk, keep the free schedule. Dont plan for anything after dinner because you never know how many hours you will need to spend to have one decent dinner. So finally i have only one thing to say. - " DONT GO " visit dandenong branch.

The last place you want to go to eat ..... Make sure you clear your schedule for the rest of the day if you decide to go here. Its takes ages for Roti's to come and you will experience eating main course first and then you will see the starters ...... The worst part is the staff has made peace with the customers not being happy with the service and won't let you see the manager. Pl go and visit dandanong store as you will spend more amount of time waiting at camberwell for your food

Was keen to check this place out but sorely disappointed.
We were told upon being seated that we could be waiting up to half an hour for our food to arrive, which we accepted as they seemed to be quite busy for a midweek evening. around 40 minutes later the waitress returned and politely but awkwardly apologised and told u there would be further delay. After about 50 minutes we were contemplating leaving but finally the first dosa dish arrived. It was passable but the sauce it was served with tasted like poor quality microwave meal, a common theme with all the dishes. After another intermission of around 10 minutes, our thali arrived. It was lukewarm, poorly presented and each of the curries was utterly bland and flavourless. It immediately made us feel nauseous. We decided to leave before our final dishes arrived. Overall a very disappointing experience and waste of a night.

The service was pretty average but I shall only go there for dosa n Indo Chinese. I am sure with time it shall improve the service no complaints. Punjabi thali was waste of my $$ but on the otherside anything for dosa so all good

Was craving for Indian food so thought of checking this place out..ambience is nice, except that this place is close to shit in the mouth..there were four of us and we all ordered 4 different dishes..the order came after 45 min of waiting ..we were hungry like crazy but the restaurant decided to treat us with stale, bland, oily and the type of food for which I don't have words.it was smelly and gave us diarrhoea afterwards..we talked with the manager about the quality and refund but probably even he is too embarrassed working there so just left the restaurant after 5 minutes..if you wanna punish anyone or just playing dare with your peeps I would definitely recommend this restaurant because I can bet you are gonna win the challenge..thanks dosa plaza for ruining my hard earned money and also our delicious cuisine..cheers

Have been here three times with a voucher which makes for a great bargain. Set in a very pleasant restaurant with great ambiance. Very quiet at first this vegan/vegetarian Indian restaurant is now quite busy. Not quite like the standard Indian restaurant the menu takes a bit of getting used to for non Indian. However the food is excellent. The service is friendly, well meaning and helpful although a little inexperienced. As this place is 5 minutes from our hope with easy parking we'll come here regularly for a quick tasty, reasonably priced meal.

One of the worst indian places you can ever find in the eastern suburbs. The paneer dosa with cheese was absolutely poop. No quality in the service and no proper response from the manager as well. I wouldnt go to this place even when im starving to death. If given the chance to blow up a restaurant the Dosa Plaza camberwell would be right on top of my list. Wouldnt suggest this place to anyone.

Dosa Plaza is a warm and inviting restaurant, despite being almost void of people when we ate there.

For a restaurant that makes the customer take down their own orders, there were a lot of wait staff standing around looking lost. When we placed our order, the wait staff continued to return to the table to confirm our orders about three times. This made the ordering process longer than it needed to be.

The menu is VERY misleading. Two of us are unable to eat dairy, so we were looking forward to being able to order items that were vegan or dairy free. It quickly came to our attention that several items labelled (V) contained cheese. When we questioned the waiter about it, he told us that the (V) only stood for vegetarian despite it clearly stating otherwise. He returned later to notify us that (V) meant it could be made vegan on request.

However, even though we made clear that we needed our orders vegan, two of them still had cheese in them. One of us has a strong reaction to dairy and became very sick.

While this was bad enough, matters were made worse when we went to pay, and they tried to charge us for an extra entree that they gave us in their own error, despite telling us that we would not be charged for it.

There were many other small issues that made our experience at Dosa Plaza highly unsatisfactory. We will not be returning.

Waste of time and money
Do not bother to go
Food way to spicy and shit ever
Just the ambience is fine and 1 for that
Overall zero
Location is good thou but what matters is food which is unfortunately worst ever

Nice open and inviting interior, which was the only positive from my experience- the service was terrible. I ordered a masala dosa and was presented with something completely different. I turns out that my order had been misread. When I asked if I could please have the dish that I'd originally ordered I was told that I would have to pay for both the dish that I didn't order and the one that I did order (what the?!). I ended up eating the 'mistake' dish that I didn't actually order, which made me more annoyed because I didn't like it at all! I would definitely avoid this place, I'm still in shock that they'd make customers pay for their mistake.

I guess I rated this place as 2.0 just for the location and the decent ambience. Myself and my wife were here for a lunch and we found a buffet 'All you can eat'. We were overtaken by a temporary craving for Indian food and went for the so called buffet. The charges are less, I must admit but the food does taste as we pay.

The lunch was supposed went like this:
* The entree - so called - consisted of potato fries, which were served on the table 3-4 pcs each.
* There was naan and a muttor paneer - I admit it didn't taste too bad. But anyone who has tasted the MTR kind of ready to cook pack can identify the similar taste/smell. I guess it smelled more of readymade spices than anything fresh.
* The worst was the so called thai curry - watery tasteless gravy of cauliflower.

As part of the all you can eat deal, there was gazar ka halwa which was served in containers in which we typically serve dips.

The dosas didn't look so bad, but I wonder if I shall really have the courage to go back and eat there again.
Eat And Be Merry Crew
For starters we had mini idlis (12 pieces) with dhal and raita dipping sauce ($6.50). This wasn't as exciting as I had hoped. It was my first time eating idlis and I had romantisied them to some extent as I had heard so much about them. They were warm steamed rice cakes. Bland if it weren't for the dhal. I saw young toddlers at the next table chomming into idlis as their dinner so perhaps they are more suitable as nursery food. The garlic naan was sublime, loads of garlic. My pick of the night is the Makhanwala which was a delicious creamy sauce, reminiscent of a butter chicken sauce but sans chook.

Visited Dosa Plaza Camberwell over the weekend to see if it was as good as the one in Dandenong, and save me a long drive. For starters the Dandenong one is better!!
Prior to leaving the establishment, I need to use the restroom, and witnessed a staff member using the restroom with his latex gloves on (he was one of the many who served us) and left the restroom still wearing the same gloves. I departed the restroom about 30 to 40 seconds after he did, and noticed him behind the counter still wearing gloves and drinking a glass of water (I have worked in restaurants too and there is no way give the time frame he could have changed gloves on both hands and poured himself a drink).
Given the behaviour of the said staff I do question the hygiene and staff training that transpires there. When I asked to speak to the manager or franchise owner did not get a straight answer, and the lady was not even interested in what i had to say.

All the best Dosa Plaza Camberwell !!!
Prutha Pimpale
Ambience maybe inviting, but the service is dismal to say the least. The staff is unaware of the usual waiting time and just gives cock And bull story when asked questions about the same. It is baffling that a plate of steamed idlis takes 30 minutes to arrive.
Kindly refrain from coming here.
