Review East Of Everything - Camberwell

Good food, good people, and of course good place to chill. Went east of everything for friend birthday party. Before 6pm, there's a tappy meals, meal with a brew. The crispy chicken is nice, crispy from the outside juicy from inside. Staff are friendly. Environment is good. Enjoy the weekend there.

What a perfect place if you're in the mood for unique beer, tasty cocktails, and a bite to eat. Went there towards the end of the evening and managed to snag myself some of the most amazing Nashville Hot Chicken Wings, careful though, when they say hot they mean it!! They were absolutely some of the best hot wings I've ever had, and that beautiful satisfying burn it gave was delightful. If you're game and have a chilli-tooth definitely give them a go!

A pretty embarrassing performance from a business who probably think they’ve got some monopoly on the Camberwell drinking scene. The lack of care was phenomenal and the service was incredibly rude. Despite it being boiling hot, the manager refused to turn on air conditioning and fans - probably to save coin or drive patrons’ hydration into the ground. Every time we went to order food/beverages we were met with a grouchy response. If you’re going to run a pub/bar shouldn’t you be wanting to vending drinks? Was a strange way to conduct a business. In summary, this place just isn’t up to the level.
Andrew Pym
Burgers tasty, Diego fries really good. Came for the quiet deeds trap takover. Good selection but no paddle option which was disappointing. They need to label up the taps as despite ordering the same beer I got one of 2 different beers each time.
Laurence Newcome
Very chilled out venue, with a good selection of craft beers on tap. The food menu is reasonably simple and compliments any choice of drink.
Adam Brown
Cool little bar. Very friendly staff. Some very tasty and interesting beers. Probably very popular in warm weather as it has giant windows and a cool terrace. I'll be back for sure.

So jelly I’m not a local. Really great beer selection with top notch casual food.

An amazing (truly) retro bar. This is one place you must give a go. Bangalore folks, think Pecos!
Emily
Regular customer here since moving to Camberwell. Great ambiance and very good selection of beers. The beers on tap are replaced everytime the keg runs out so expect different beers! Food wise ..good choices mainly bar food. Definitely recommend trying the onion rings. And if you are a fan of spicy hot sauce- you will be spoiled for choice here! All in all definitely would recommend this place for a good chilled hang out spot.
FoodieFlayva
Great rotation of seasonal beers, good food, good vibes, 5/5.

Hidden Gem above another Hidden Gem in Camberwell, right near the station - Highly Recommended.
Quince And Cheese
Hidden gem in Camberwell. This place has an incredible craft beer selection and some very beer-knowledgeable staff. The spot offers a great city view and several veggie-friendly dishes to accompany your drinks. Can't wait to go back.

Had a great night here with friends last week. A small but excellent selection of beers on tap and great food. The view to the city is phenomenal and a total surprise!
Tabb
Really great bar, decently priced, nice atmosphere and surroundings. Can be sometimes hard to get a table during peak times so try and book in advance if you can. Good happy hour selection too and staff are friendly!
MF
Came with friends and ordered their fries, wings and onion rings and some beers, fries and wings were good but the onion rings wasnt my cup of tea as it was a bit soggy and too much batter until cakey. They have a very good selection of beer and we were happy with the one we ordered. Service was good as well, have a bit chit chat with a girl that end up introduced herself as the step daughter of the owner of this place.
The place itself was very comfy and most importantly not too loud so we can chat, will definitely come back.

East of everything is a well hidden bar/ comfort food dining establishment that is located in the street right beside the train line in Camberwell. You would never just stumble onto it as there are no signs indicating it’s presence just the sound of chatter from above. Up a stair shaft to nowhere and through a partially obscured door we were greeted by a pleasant dining area and views out towards the city as the sun was setting. The room itself was nicely decked out with art work and light fittings and the bar sleek backlit and underground.

They offered a range of on tap craft beers... I would say an impressive range. I grabbed a pint of Two birds double sunset beer which was wonderful and a glass of presecco and took menus back to our table. Food would be described as American comfort/soul food and southern/Mexican. They had happy hour food/drink deals which we just missed as arrived bang in 7pm. Happy hour offers very good value on the pint/sandwich front.

We didn’t intent to order fried everything but it sounded so good. We picked the fried chicken, fried Mac-n-cheese croquettes and (you guessed it) fried fries. All came out reasonably fast and each with varied accompanying sauce. All looked delicious 😋

On taste though one dish was not like the others. The fried chicken was edible but incredibly salty and very dry. It was accompanied by a sweet-baby-rayesk style sauce which was essential to enjoy. Kelisi likes her salt more than me but even she didn’t love this dish.

The mac-n-cheese croquettes were flavoursome and also quite darkly fried but this didn’t cause the dryness we experienced with the chicken. I loved these croquettes. Didn’t quite get the pairing with the aioli style sauce with hot sriracha sauce but we didn’t really need the sauce either and the cheesey content was flavoursome enough by itself.

Chip/fried were beer battered and well cooked and well eaten.

Overall a bit of a mixture of good and bad food wise but they certainly hit the mark as far as craft beer goes. I liked the venue and would come back and try some of the more substantial dishes and I’ll say it again was really was a fan of the beers behind the bar.

I went this place for friend birthday party. This place is little bit hard to find. There are a lot of selection for beer. I had Hargreaves hill super sour beer. I did not like it but apparently this beer for someone knows about beer well. I had few nibble which are small chicken burger, pulled pork burger and eggplant tempura. It was all nice except eggplant.
The City Lane
Located a few floors up in a nondescript office building in Camberwell, East of Everything rewards those who walk up the unmarked stairs and through the saloon doors with one of the best drinking experiences in this part of town.
Soph
Really enjoy this place. Tasty soul food with a good amount of spice, a nice atmosphere and great beers. The only downside is that it's a small space, so it can get very loud if it's busy. Definitely worth a visit
Dominique Felix
A friend was having farewell drinks and after making a harmless joke with a group of arrogant 20 somethings simply said, "Who the F do you think you are?!". She spoke to one of the bar staff to explain her bad experience and another man; the propietor/manager/staff member interjected, "You're talking about MY friends!" Sorry mate, the customer is always right. You never ever speak to a customer and blame them for the rude and inexcusable behaviour of someone else. Friend or otherwise. She and the regulars from my place of work will not be back. You've lost business.

Eggplant wedges were mostly batter and not pleasant. Po OK, ordered the chicken one, lacked flavour, not amazing, bread was dry. Poor service.
Nic
Brilliant little bar, great views and a wide range of craft beers on tap. The menu is perfectly matched to beer. One of my favs is the cheesy mac croquettes. The quesadilla are also very tasty.

I went here for the first time last night and loved it. If you didn't know what you were looking for, you'd never find this place, as the entrance is simply an open door on Auburn Pde with a set of stairs heading up and one heading down, marked with a nondescript number 72 on the external door. Staff were sensational - friendly, helpful and knowledgeable - despite not having our booking (thankfully we were a small group and easily accommodated). Food was delicious and four share plates were perfect for the three of us. A small selection of interesting beers on tap as well as a cider would have excited my husband so a return visit is on the cards. Loved the range of hot sauces and will be working my way up in intensity next visit!

Love this place. Have been there twice.Food is good. Beer options are even better. Music isn't too loud so you can have some conversations while sipping on great beer.
Lazy Turtle
Unfortunately this have changed. Beers are still rotating and are pretty good but food prices have increased and serving sizes are smaller. I feel like it's no longer reflective of Southern American sizes. Still tastes good but is now a costly night out.
Chewing Is Exercise
East of Everything is truly a hidden gem out in the suburbs, being accessed via a door with no sign and some non-descript stairs. The only reassurance that you’re in the right place and not walking up into someone’s private residences is the trail of beer kegs you pass on the ascent.
Chloe
Came here last Saturday night and.. there is almost nothing to complain about. The food was amazing and portion sizes were perfect. It is somewhat more casual than what we had expected but it was lovely inside.
The only problem I think we came across was making conversation, as the music was quite loud.
We didn't stay for drinks but the ones that came out for other tables looked lovely. But yes the food was delicious and definitely worth it!
Jenny
We had so much fun at their Havana Nights NYE party. The food and drinks were awesome and plentiful, if you've never had a Cubano sandwich do yourself a favour and track one down...amazing!
I also want to say a big thankyou to the team of staff behind the bar, they were working very hard but still having as much fun as we were.
We'll be in soon for some of the magical cheesy mac croquettes!
Daniel
The only thing that is a bit annoying is the lack of air con/fan. Other than that, it's hard to fault.
Fantastic selection of craft beers, tasty food and a very chilled atmosphere. Service is very good and the waiters are extremely friendly.
Can get a little noisy and definitely not a place to drag young kids.
Will definitely be back.
Binula
Great hidden gem in Camberwell! Almost impossible to come across unless you're looking for it, the place is tucked away on the top floor of an otherwise unremarkable building off a side street. Perfect spot for a catch up with friends with dishes that can be shared.

Great place for those who like spice in their meals as well - there are numerous hot sauces to be tried ranging from mild to explosive and the Spanish dishes all have a great taste to them. Definitely worth a try!

Has potential...unfortunately the only outdoorish area is full of people smashing the cancer sticks. The indoors great if there are a few people however when it's full it's a different ball game...LOUD NOISES
Lisado16
Food was mediocre at best. The fritters and quesadillas were disappointing. They didn't really taste like anything and lacked flavour. Otherwise the place was great!

So Close to a 5.

This place has it all, the quality craft beer, amazing service and beautiful american goodies on the food menu.

The only thing that lets it down is the lack of a quality air conditioned outside area for the summer. They do have a small space but it feels like a sauna.

I am in love with the Chicken P.O Boy! This is fried chicken the way it should be done. Great hidden gem perfect for an early evening meal with views over the city at sunset. Great selection of hot sauces too and beer on tap. This along with Bar None downstairs is by far my favourite place in Camberwell.

Perfect shrimp po' boys - great portions and I really liked the amount of spice and freshness.

We came on a public holiday and the service was great regardless. The decor is lovely too!
Nick The Greek
Another hidden gem. Absolutely invisible from the street level , worthy the climb up the stairs . Good selection of craft beers and very casual , laid back environment.

Tasty bar food at a reasonable price, great cocktails and the ciders on tap are really good despite not being much of a cider girl. Staff is very friendly and atomsphere is cosy.

We love our beer venues and EOE is definitely one of our favourites. The staff are friendly and the food is great value for money. My partner is a bit obsessed with the chili fries, personally I think the smoked pork quesadilla is the pick of the menu.
Signage to help find the place would be great, but once you find it you'll be glad you did.

I have eaten at East a lot. I used to love its but as the years have gone by the quality has slipped.
Often items are crossed off the menu, which is quite limited as it is.
Our last experience was on a Tuesday night, their first trading day of the week. They ran out of chips.
They ran out of the beers they were advertising on social media.
My friend ordered a pork po boy, he got chicken.
Another friend ordered a cocktail and after about 20 minutes had to remind the bar tender that she had ordered it in the first place.
When it works, it works well. The portion sizes are generous, the food is tasty and always a good selection of beers. But lately it seems to be more of a hobby than a business.
DAMMIT JANET I LOVE FOOD
Quietly hidden away up a small flight of stairs, East of Everything know how to serve up some great Southern food. The menu is small and simple, the atmosphere relaxed and the staff
Andrew From Ashburton
Great food, great beer, great service!
Loved the draught Theakston's Old Peculiar - went really well with the food. The Cheesy Mac Croquettes and Corn Fritters were to die for and the Shrimp Po Boy was yummy!

Awful food! Tasted like garbage! Overpriced drinks too! -2/10 would not recommend

Really yum bar food; very cheap but delicious. Good Yankee menu of all the good stuff. Paddle of beers are cute idea. I only liked No 1 as I'm not a huge fan of dark beer but my husband loved it.
Two Fat Cullos
Awesome!!! Loved the fit out, loved the food, great atmosphere and really lovely, friendly staff. It's definitely that hidden gem as people have been reviewing hidden two flights of stairs up but so worth the venture up, you won't be disappointed we weren't. We went on a Sunday evening so was a really casual & not so busy which was nice. Highly recommend trying The Dom, it's so flavoursome & spot on soul food.

Cool!. I liked everything about East of Everything. I loved the vibe. Staff were friendly, food was tasty, prices were reasonable.
Vinny
Spicy bar. A mix of spicy Mexican American style food with a large array of drinks. The place is like an apartment made into a bar type atmosphere. Food is pretty well priced and good portions as well as tasty. Loved it.
Ron
Our local, we come here a lot. Friendly service, cool vibe. Hidden gem

Tasty Tasting menu and Great Beers. I am part of a group of 12 who regularly eat out, looking for foods from different regions from around the globe. We have had many great meals from interesting and quirky eating places. The staff at East Of Everything presented our group with a great nights meal, a tasty sampling of various things from their menu, (including some lovely BBQ Ribs, not from their regular menu).
Everyone loved everything, including specials for our vego's. The favorites of the night were the Cheesy Croquettes, Shrimp Quesadillas, and the Sweet Corn Fritters. But all things were tasty and enjoyed by all.
I would highly recommend it as a great night out to anyone looking for something a bit different, with the great range of local and overseas beers, just adding to the experience.
Highly recommended.

Food ok; drinks expensive; cold & noisy

Pleasant surprise. Nothing like the entrance to the building. East of Everything was one great surprise after another.

On walking up the stairs and entering the room... Surprise! It's pleasant decor and size is inviting. The bar has a great selection of beers yet I had an English cider...... Yum! The menu had a reasonably small selection, but the quality of each meal was superb.

We had the crumb macaroni chees, corn bread, chicken quesadilla and some southern fried chicken, all of which was really tasty and well portioned: all of which went great with chilli sauce.

Thanks guys, great place, we'll be back with friends.

What a gem, a great find.

Friendly Service and Boutique Beers. Friendly service, lovely owner, great range of beer and cider.

Friendly staff and awesome food. East of everything is a quaint little bar hidden in Camberwell, basically it's a Camberwell gem! Their frequent tap changes make it a pleasure to go in and try out all the different beers and to top it all off the food amazing, if you don't believe me, go and try it out for yourself! All of the staff who work there are friendly and personable, they make you feel very welcome and it's always a pleasure to see them. EOE is one of my favourite foodie places in Melbourne.

A hidden Gem. I'd heard good things bout East of Everything, hard place to find but once you find it its like your at home, went with a Group and bought nearly the whole food menu to try and have to say it was some of the best southern food I have tried in Austalia, was not disappointed with one bit of what we had, I'd Highly Recommend the Mac and Cheese Croquettes and the Beef Debris, Southern Fried Chicken and Fried Shrimp Po'Boys, they were absolutely Magnificent.

The service was brilliant, the Girl serving us has to be one of the friendliest people we have met in a food establishment , she genuinely looked like she loved her work and a Real people person, made for a great lunch experience.

We will definitely be back for more, couldn't recommend this place anymore highly !!!
Nassim
Just give it a try. Awesome everything.

Amazeballs!. Such a hidden gem! went last Saturday and had the southern fried checked poh boy and gumbo soo delicious! staff were lovely and drinks great - they make a mean margarita!

Literally just went back to New Orleans. What a gem this joint is... So hidden away with some of the best city views from the east!

I have recently returned from a gaunt in the south of the US and I can't believe I found a place with such authentic food. Great selection of beers too.

Plus... I am not single but this has to be one of Melbourne's best kept secrets for single women - guys everywhere!
Foodie3123
Yum. We had the Gumbo and Catfish Po'Boy for lunch today and they were great! As close to the food I ate in NOLA that I've been able to find in Australia.
Staff were really helpful, they have 6 beers on tap and I hadn't tried any so they were happy to give me a taste. Settled on a Garage Project "Death from Above"...tasty.
James B
Superb food. Lovely space. Beef debris poh boy is so good! Top value and first class array of beers. Excellent, friendly service.
Wocksie
Delicious food and interesting beers. Third visit and the food today was absolutely delicious! Had the beef debris poh boy and corn fritters, whereas other half stuck with his favourite shrimp poh boy and a reuben sandwich. The friendly woman serving us warned us it was a lot of food but we had no trouble eating it all - it was so good! The corn fritters were perhaps the least nice but still lovely. That reuben was just so yummie. Decent prices too which makes up for the beers being on the expensive side. Great, interesting range off non-standard craft beers. Am starting to really love this place since they've increased their menu and will be back!
Aly
Cool little surprise!. Trying to find somewhere for a sunday night drinks and tapas, we stumbled across this place. Pretty small, but really great vibe and ambience. Chicken quesadillas were great as was the selection of wines and beers.
Richard
Great bar. I like the way there is no sign - just a staircase and a white door. Behind the door is a cool bar. Some very fancy craft beers on tap - maybe the best I have had in Melbourne (Although the Ale House Project wins here I think), but in this location it is just a great change from the usual.
We also tried the gumbo - spicy!
The service was a little cold for my liking - just could have been more welcoming and friendly, but this is Camberwell.
The only problem - the most expensive beers are $18 for a "medium" - I think it was a pint. But the cheaper beers are around $12. It's not a cheap night out and the most expensive beers I have had anywhere in the world!
But I still liked it and recommend it.
Sean
Start off with the corn fritters, yum! Fresh taste of corn and paired so well with the chorizo very fresh and a lot of flavor. I also had the chicken and sausage gumbo which was my first gumbo as soon as it came over u could smell it, and it tasted as good as it smelt spicy but not too much enough to warm you up on a cold night and great mix of meat and rice. Will be coming back again to try a po boy. Also I had a perfect mojito here. Relaxed dining
Mumneedscoffee
Nice bar in Camberwell, great city views!
Eat Australia
The combination of quality beer on tap with spicy, tangy and delicious food to match is a hard one to beat. While there are Southern-style eateries popping up all over town, this spot in the East is one worth visiting, even more so if you live just around the corner from this hidden gem. Grab a cold beer, a plate of nibbles and settle in to watch the world pass by from up above the trees.

The first thing we were served was Cheesy Mac Croquettes. They were OMG so fingerlickin’ good! It’s pretty much eating a piece of deep fried mac and cheese! Golden and Crispy on the outside and cheesy, melt in your mouth in the inside. Heavenly.
Ashley
...We're talking mac n' cheese croquettes, pulled pork and the piece de resistance? A fried chicken po'boy. Awwww damn! The mouth waters on sight, with a rich barbecue sauce spread over a perfectly crunchy and fried piece of chicken. It's surprisingly juicy, off set with just a bit of slaw hidden at the back, to make sure you kids are still eating your veg.
