One of my favourite sushi bars! Food is always so fresh & filling! I got the $10 salmon takeaway roll and it was super generously stuffed with fatty salmon sashimi which was impressive as many places are very stingy upon their salmon servings! Really recommend dong hae for cheap & delicious eats! Follow @hungrymons on IG for more food reviews and posts!
Been there many times. There is limited items on menu, but their sashimi is fresh and very tasty. Price is reasonable. The special roll is a must try too.

This is one of my favourite sushi shops for freshly made sushi in Campsie!

There's always a lunch rush, and the cute design of it reminds me of tokyo and the tiny little restaurants where you walk in just to sit/stand at the bar eat your food and then rush for the shinkansen! 😘🌸

Best for takeaway or a cute lunch date! 😘
Though their whole menu is decent and tasty, I highly recommend getting a "Special roll".
The tempura prawn inside is so crispy!
The venue is small so don't expect to always get a seat if you're a 2+group.
They make the sushi in front of you.
Korean chef, Charlie is passionate and endeavors to assist/ make changes where requested.
This place is a small nice cozy place with a variety of food excluding ramen as its prime focus is on sushi and udon.
They have little trays on the table for every individual with a spoon, wooden chopsticks and tissue along with a sauce plate to dip soy sauce and wasabi etc. When you first come in, they give you a cup of hot tea and a nice small salad with a this delicious tasty sesame dressing. I normally do not have salad but this was very nice as an appetiser.
They have a range of sushi rolls to choose from and i highly recommend the Special roll for $15 as it is very nice and delicious. It is an interesting sushi roll that has smoked salmon, fried soft shell crab and more. Additionally, there are plain udon sets with sushi or tempura for around $14-$15. The plain udon is decent with tempura fried potato chips as a topping which i find very interesting and unique. There is also rice such as Eel rice that comes with a miso soup. There is a lot of fancy sashimi boat sets which have different sizes. They also have takoyaki, gyoza etc.
Great little place tucked away on a corner. Just started working in the area and came here after work. I was greeted with such friendly staff and the owner seemed to know everyone. Only a small venue but a great vibe and food. Ordered a few rolls, sashimi, and udon. Everything was great. The sashimi were fresh, rolls had a good balance of flavours and udon was perfect for a cold night.
Got recommended this little Sushi Bar by and friend and I was very surprised with the quality of food.
Everything came out quick (maybe a little too quick) but the taste and I felt the quality was there. takoyaki were crispy, special sushi roll was amazing.
A solid little sushi bar tucked away right next to Campsie station. Cosy, and I mean cosy, seating and attentive and friendly service gives Dong Hae an edge over the glut of other Japanese offerings in the immediate surrounds.
As to the food, it's very fairly priced/bordering on a steal for quality and quantity that you receive. The menu is expansive so you will not be left wanting for anything.
Come for the sashimi and takoyaki, stay (and return!) for the warm atmosphere.
Gentlemen this is a must go to place when you're low on cash and want to impress a pretty girl.
Food quality: its bloody on point (I'm not a huge fan of king fish or tuna, but DAMN SON it was LIT!)
Service: average, but I'm not there for the service, I'm there for the food and price 😋
Price: these 3 dishes only cost $43! And boy was I stuffed.
Showtime✌🏼
I absolutely LOVE Dong Hae.... This tiny tiny Japanese Sushi Bar is an absolute gem! Even though it's owned by koreans, it's sooo good. The sushi is made fresh right in front of you. You can pretty much alter the sushi however you want, and the chefs are more than happy to do so for you. The owner is always so friendly and attentive. They have really cheap sushi udon sets.
Limited menu and limited seating so not great for large groups.
You will be paying for service, and food presentation. Sets are good value but although sushi is made to order, it does taste very much like those u can get at food courts. Takoyaki stands out as the best order for us.
Wonderful and good value sushi platter!! They can make the platter in a very short time. We love it so much. Outside looks a bit old but inside is full of yummy food. Their friendly staffs always keep their smile while making sushi in front of you :)
One of the best sushi bars in Sydney, hands down. The staff are prompt, kind and welcoming. There is never a smell of trimethylamine (that fishy odour present in a lot of sashimi at other places) in any of their fresh fish, which leads me to believe they get the freshest of the fresh. I've brought friends, family, and my partner to this establishment on multiple occasions, and would highly recommend it to anyone who wants consistency in their sushi dining. The place is quite small, but if you can get past that, you won't regret it.
The best sushi ever ... lick your fingers and plate .... best place to take your girlfriend. ... baby youll love it ... all night long. .......
Always love coming to Dong Hae. It's a very small joint that has a seating limit of 30-60 minutes which is good for an in and out kind of meal. The sushi is consistently fresh and tasty.
If you are looking for a great but cheap sushi place in the west, this is it! Located on Beamish St in Campsie, it’s easy to find parking on small roads or a simple 1 minute walk from the station. This corner sushi bar is very small, with a main bar and a round table at the back, probably not ideal for a huge group. I’ve tried most of the sushi places around this area, and this would be my favourite and most recommended. Even though it looks like a run down sushi joint, you can’t judge it until you’ve tried it. Not only is the price cheap and the food is amazing, but you also don’t have to wait as long as you do for Manmaruya (down the road). The service here is also very friendly.
I use to live around the area and this sushi bar was and probably still is my go to sushi bar. When you walk in, it feels like you're in Japan eating sushi (Despite the owners being Korean). The presentation is marvellous and simple, sashimi is fresh and service is always good. Although the price can be a bit expensive, I would still strongly recommend this place because the sashimi sushi boats are phenomenal.
Fresh and delicious food. Long established restaurant with same owner/chef. Still one of my favorite sushi places after 15yrs.
The place is small but clean. Raw fish was very fresh but for the price, the portion can be bigger. I rate it 8/10.
Fantastic food for a decent price with friendly staff and well presented food would definately reccomend this place
A great little sushi bar on a corner in Campsie. Seating is limited but makes the place feel extra cosy. It's great that you can watch the sushi chefs make your dish right in front of you. The special roll is exactly that - special. Beautifully cooked and so tasty. Salmon and avocado is another fave.

Best sushi and sashimi place around. Fresh fish delivered daily and prepared in front of you. The salad and tea feels very homely. A
I ordered the Sashi large set, California roll, Eel rice and chicken Terriyaki rice. Our food was prepared in front of us and was very fresh and delicious. Friendly and attentive staff. It was busy when we went for lunch but nonetheless a good experience overall. Recommended if your in the area.
Nice Japanese sushi bar. Very tiny but sashimi is nice.
If you're reading this review, you must go here. I would come here 2-3 times a week. The food they make is always consistent, haven't had a bad experience ever. You must try the 'special roll' and 'teriyaki chicken roll' and their sashimi taste very fresh. Udon was average. Sometimes things aren't on the menu but don't be afraid to ask. They pretty much make the food in front of you and their quick at it too. During peak times it's preferred to spend I think 30-45mins there so other people can get a chance to eat too and to be honest I don't see why you would need to spend more time there anyways. The food is super affordable and for two people it would probably be less the $50. They prefer cash but do accept card.
Nothing flash, just delicious, affordable and fresh sushi and friendly service. I high recommend this lovely little hole in the wall. 🌸💖
