Review Morks - Canberra

Poppy Rose
I used to love this restaurant. Beautiful, elevated Thai cuisine with great service. The service on our last visit was good but some of the wait staff unfortunately lacked attention to detail. Noting we were a party of five, we ended up with several different dishes that came in serving sizes of four. At no point did the waitstaff think to recommend that we maybe double the portions so everybody could sample each dish. Needless to say, some of us missed out on sampling. Also, with share plates, to serve mains at $60 a pop with 4 thumb sized batons of fish is not amazing. We are all foodies including our friend visiting from London and know restaurants have done it tough. But this wasn’t a post pandemic business model change - this was simply taking the customer for granted :-( I hope the restaurant takes this review on board and implements some changes - until then, I will not be going back.

I went to Morks for dinner with a friend the other night, and was looking forward to being mistreated for rocking up with no booking and hefty dietary requirements. Unfortunately, the staff were absolutely incredible, mixing friendly and professional. Equally saddening was that each course of the tasting menu was absolutely delicious, and the cocktails we were suggested were lovely and well chosen. Looks like I'll need to find something else to complain about. Thanks to all the staff for a great night

Yes takeout! What I loved was how fresh everything was. Pork buns were perfect. Chicken was crispy and delicately spiced. Fried eggplant with plum sauce and greens was a favourite. Even the fried rice was the best I’ve had. So well done Morks team in these tough times. Highly recommended.

Very tasty but I just spent $95 for a tasting menu, I’ve had $2 noodles that were more filling. Left the restaurant hungry. Don’t fall for the same trap of spending $95 pp for a tasting menu. Big mistake

Omg this place is the bomb! My second time visiting from Sydney and just as impressive if not more than the last from the smoked Hapuku on brioche to the cauliflower potato Haloumi curry everything was delicious! And don’t even get me started on the roti! Flakey deliciousness! You can tell a lot about a place by the effort they put into their roti! Service was also excellent Thank you Morks for a great night out in Canberra

Morks had been recommended to us and this often makes me a bit nervous. Not in the least that the restaurant may not live up to expectations, but then the duty to inform ones friend of this. Happily, Morks restaurant not only lived up to its recommendation - it greatly exceeded it. Singularly, it one of the best dining experiences I've had. Full stop. Not had this year, or in years, but had - ever. It was brilliant. We decided on the sample, or degustation, menu and Morks delivered in style. There were nine sample courses and each was exquisite with balance between flair and taste. The waiting staff were wonderful and allowed time between courses for conversation. Two of our party had dietary needs, which this was understood and communicated to the Chef. They modified two of their courses accordingly, but with that wonderful sensation for the palate. When I left the restaurant, I wondered why Morks *only* had one hat award -- and I suspect this situation will soon be rectified with the appropriate two hats it deserves. It is exemplified by one dish in particular -- the duck. On tasting this, my mind brought up memories of my youth living in South-East Asia. It was akin to the scene in Pixar's film, Ratatouille, where the critic is whisked to his childhood a dish's taste and smell. That experience, although fleeting, was vivid and made me smile and reminisce. Yet even without this, the dishes, staff and restaurant are superb. I highly recommend booking for a night's treat.

The food was alright. I think they have overdone the garnish as it felt like a coriander plus mint salad in every dish. The soft shell crab was good and very crunchy. The eggplant was also very crispy and tasted good. The 12 hour beef short rib is really good though and flavours blend. The fried rice was nothing special. Service was top and felt accommodated instantly.

The food is a little spicy but very delicious! Edit- came back here for a second time! The entrees were a little pricey, and okay but the fried icecream, lamb Curry & the beef short rib were amazing! Must try!

Not value for money. I really did not enjoy the experience and my friends were left quietly disappointed. Despite being very pretentious, the meals were very dry and bland. The food was also overpriced and the portions are also very small. Standard Option was supposed to be shared between 4 people, How it could happen? I went there for a special occasion, celebration of my Birthday. I couldn't bring my own wines because they charge for corkage which was an insult price of $ 18.00 per wine bottle and yet we got charged $ 15.00 extra for they had to cut my Birthday cake and it was served in some plates on the table. I should cut it on my own and I could bring in couple of plastic plates and forks as well as I would serve my friends if I knew that they would charge it. I just found it out after got the bill. We will not be going there again and will not recommend this establishment to anyone! Overpriced and poor menu. They don't even have "Pai Thai" or "Phat-si-io" which are typical dishes in the real Thai Restaurants, small portions that will leave you waiting to get food somewhere else because you will leave that place hungry and still even after technically eating 3 dishes: Entree, Main Course and also Dessert. For Thai Food this restaurant has illusions of grandeur.

Not value for money. Wine list ridiculously expensive. The food was also overpriced and the portions are also very small. I went there for special occasion but the duty manager was given feedback about the food portions and the overpriced menu as well as the charge for corkage which was an insult as we poured our own wine. It was the size of a can of coke and yet we got charged $10. I should have charged them for opening and serving my own wine but the duty manager had the audacity to justify the fee.! We will not be going there again and will not recommend this establishment to anyone! Overpriced menu and small portions that will leave you wanting to get food somewhere else. Wine list is also overpriced and not worth buying by the glass either. For Thai food this restaurant has illusions of grandeur.

A wonderful night out for my birthday, all the food was delicious - especially the ribs! Early in the night i checked in on facebook - not 5 minutes later the waiter came over asking if it was my birthday and gave us all a complimentary glass of Champagne. Very attentive and friendly staff, and they brought my dessert with a sparkler, wishing me a happy birthday again. Great night from start to finish, would definitely recommend to anyone.

We went there last night, beautiful food & wine. Fantastic service, the staff were absolutely lovely. We were super impressed with the separate vegan menu and the amount of gluten free options.

Daniel, our waiter, was very attentive in a busy Friday evening service. Loved his recommendations for food and wine. The banquet was excellent value for money. Each course was beautifully presented and tasted yummy. Hard to pick a favourite but you can’t go past the pork buns!

We had lots of recommendation to go to Morks. Very impressed with the menu and service. My husband was blown away, he couldn't make up his mind about the wine so the waitress gave him a couple of tastings. Wine list is great including the french wines. Highly recommend you put it on the bucket list.

We’ve been going to Morks for years, even before they moved to their present location. They never disappoint. The food sublime the service friendly and attentive. A great restaurant.

Thanks to Mork, Ben and the team for their hospitality and making Mother's Day super special today. The food was amazing especially the Pork Buns, and the Confit Duck with Rhubarb Salad, not to mention the Grandma's Apple Crumble to finish. Oh my God, my mouth is watering again!

The food is amazing, service is fantastic! Highly recommend! The scallops are mouthwatering, I could go on, but I think you get the idea!!

Great restaurant in every way. Contempary Thai at its best. Great ambience, attentive staff. Three courses of great food.

Morks is always inspiring, contemporary Thai in foreshore setting. We enjoyed a wonderful lunch there with an overseas visitor, which she loved! Angel Prawns, sublime. The seared barramundi with shiitake mushrooms was fabulous, wonderful umami flavours. Sweet spicy ribs, delicious, and our lamb shoulder massaman so tender and comforting. A glass of local voignier, lovely. Goodonya Mork.

Another sensational meal.... there's simply no place better if you enjoy true Thai flavours served in a contemporary way. Delicious!!!

Fabulous flavours in the food. Great service. Shame we had to complain about the tiny glass of wine that was delivered
