Review Blu Ginger - Canberra

I've been here a number of times. I'm picky about Indian food, and don't really like the taste of most Indian places. The curries at Blu Ginger taste a bit more authentic. The food today didn't taste as good as I remember though. The dhaal had a smoky flavour which I didn't like, I didn't like the vege ball entree ( ? Manchuria) , the cauliflower and potato was also not that great. The service is good, but mains are always slow to come out. It's dirt cheap for the portion sizes given. Another reviewer mentioned a week ago that the naan is crisper and flatter here - I don't think that's the case. You can see that one of my pics has both naan and roti, they are 2 different kinds of breads. The menus do need a wipe as our drinks menu had food all over it. Overall, another good experience, although I'm less wowed.

I’ve been regular recently. I didn’t know I would be a big fan of Indian food before I had their food. They do excellent food and consistently great mango drink.

Indian cuisine is my favorite, but I’ve never been disappointed with it like i was today. I’m new to Canberra, so I looked for the top Indian restaurants here, and I got this one. There’s absolutely nothing special about it and frankly speaking, idk how ppl gave it even 2 stars. The food had no flavor or taste, and all my orders were cold. What surprised me the most was the waiter, when she was taking the order she laughed in the middle so we asked her what’s the issue! She said “ your ordering too much.” However, after she brought the dishes, I felt glad that we didn’t order more because that food was not worth $106 .. in fact, $10 in another takeaway restaurant would’ve been better.

Excellent restaurant. Friendly, helpful staff. Our waiter recommended a better option than we had chosen which worked out much better. The meals were delicious. Busy, but not a long wait for meals to be served.

All foods were ver good in taste. Quantity was also perfect. Service was not as per expectation. It took 1.5 hours to complete.

Recommendation from a work colleague that the cuisine here is great and yes it was delicious. Pleasant surroundings and service the location is close proximity to everything within the centre of Canberra, advise booking for larger groups as they tend to be busy.

Extremely good Indian food. Probably one of the best I've ever had in Australia. The dishes have the real Indian flavour with no added sugar (most of the Indian restaurants add sugar to almost every gravy/ curry). The peas pulao was cooked in ghee and tasted awesome. It's a real gem and a food heaven for anyone who loves authentic Indian food. Great food, great service!

I liked it, and shall recommend. The Seafood Molly is to die for...damn yummy and good value. Granted the Goat Curry was tasty, we didn't find it good value so we shan't recommending it. Actually, we found the overall experience to be good value. BYO with cockage allows you to make it as special as you like. The service was attentive. See you again...

Wasn’t too bad but... the food wasn’t presentable like the chicken korma’s gravy was a grind paste ... it couldn’t impressed!! And quantity was very less .. four chicken piece and so much thin gravy!!! Would recommend to visit spice affair to you guys and try its dishes!!! It’s too good!!!!

I waited 20mins longer for my food then I was told it would be, and even then we got beef instead of goat. Living so far away we couldn’t go back and change it. Also the manager in charge was a little too friendly with me. Didn’t think touching my shoulders for longer than a brief moment is proper customer service. Also we were charged more for our food then what the listed price was on the menu. Food was okay but won’t be rushing back.

I have been there eigth times now also with family and friends. The Samosa , papadoms and Naan were great and up to their usual standard, ,however I could not eat the lamb Korma, the meat seemed to be overcooked and dry and then was sat in the "sauce", which also lacked flavour and spice. The safron rice was also dry and warmish and not steaming as usual. I addressed my concerns with the waiter who called the manager who went to the kitchen with my meal, to their credit they appolagised and agreed that it could have been cooked differently .And "when I came back to mention my particular needs so the meal may be cooked differently". A fair way of saying either of us could be wrong :) Having said this I will absolutly be going back , I am sure this is a one of ,and it was handled with grace.

Liturally the BEST Indian restaurant in Canberra! The food is always amazing, the service is always slow however the food is worth the wait and casual pace of the staff. I wouldn't recommend going if you are in a rush! The restaurant is also extremely loud, however if you are wanting a really amazing Indian you can not go wrong, i wish there was a restaurant in Gungahlin!

All ways good food, staff always friendly and make sure you have a good experience, nice for a after movies dinner 6.00 PM and it was obvious for a pre dinner meal prior to the 8.00PM movie session, the place was packed. We had reserved a table, luckily.A nice quiet one for 3 down the side of the kitchen, divided by glass, good viewing into the kitchen. Recommend for one of the best Indian Food in Canberra.

EDIT: the owner of Blu Ginger reached out to me after reading my below review and asked me to come in for a conversation. He encouraged me to stay for dinner, and he explained to me the issue surrounding the delay in the food order which came down to technology error. The staff were all very apologetic and I received great service. It was a very nice night. Absolute worst birthday dinner I've ever had. I had booked a table a week in advance and confirmed the booking on the day of. So they knew to expect a large group. Arrived at 6pm and ordered food and drinks at 6.15pm. There were 18 people on the table including children, hence the early dinner. Half the table ordered a banquet and the rest ordered from the menu. Our entrees came out at 7.50pm, and we didn't get our mains until.8.30pm. The staff were not attentive, taking an average of 20 minutes to deliver drinks, including water for the table. Everyone around us had eaten and left while we were still waiting for our entrees. I approached the manager about this and told him there were kids, who were starving and needed to go to bed soon. The manager then told me that it was "difficult for the kitchen to keep up with our order because we ordered banquet and from the menu" - no apology, no offer for extra appetizers or drinks, no sympathy. After we had finished, they charged us double on the bill (it amounted to $1400) and took them 30 minutes to fix their calculations. Other than the appalling service, the food was dry and well overcooked, everything was over spiced, and everyone left feeling sick. I've been here before and had a pleasant experience, but I won't ever be returning.

Indian food at its best. ESHA took amazing care of us. It is always obvious when Indian restaurants are authentic and this was. Thank you, it was worth a very long trip from the Caribbean to dine at your establishment.

After being invited back to Blu Ginger by Mr Reddy, we experienced great food and service. This has been one of our favourite Indian restaurants in Canbera and never normally disappointed. Mr Reddy is always keen to make sure his customers have a good experience and he certainly delivered last night. We will be back.

As you walk in the front door and breath in the awesome aroma...your satisfaction doesn't stop there. Staff are friendly and helpful even when its busy. Food was delicious. Good selection of choice in both food and drinks. Very reasonably priced. Great ratings and I can understand why.

I am a fan of Indian food and while I enjoyed the food it seemed over spiced with a lack of flavour The staff were friendly and attentive and the portions were generous
