Review Bollywood Masala Kingston - Canberra

Amazing Indian restaurant in town. All dishes were mouthwatering and beautifully presented. Loved the quality and quantity of street food and mocktails.

Simply the best Indian in Canberra. I feel like Bollywood Is criminally underrated. Every dish we have had has been superb. For me what puts them apart is the taste of fresh herbs and spices. There just seems to be so much complexity of flavour to the dishes and you just know they have worked hard to get each dish right.

Worked here one night. Everyone was so nice, got a free meal (cheese naan). The cheese naan was SO good!!! I really like this restaurant, everyone from the owner to the chefs were kind hearted and treated me, a casual kitchen hand, like a family.

We really enjoyed our meal at Bollywood Masala. It was an interesting and enticing menu that, in addition to the classics, had a number of regional and signature dishes. I look forward to returning in order to try more of the menu! The Bollywood Dhal was delicious, and the Tandoori Mushrooms were a revelation! The restaurant does appear to be a little understaffed (not uncommon for the times we’re in), and so service was a tad slow. However, this was absolutely no reflection on the lovely lady who served us (Puja, I believe?) who was simply delightful and doing the work of 3 people! We’ll definitely be back 😊

Ordered a spicy curry and one non spicy curry, both turned out mild (almost sweet). Offered green chilli to spice it up, but it’s not the same isit? Rice serving was tad small, so was naan. Overall quality was okay, pricey side.

I love Indian cuisine, in particular Dahl. My wife an I attended this restaurant. The Lamb was ok but the Dahl (traditional Indian dish) was disgraceful, tasted like some kind of stock. I went to pay and was only offered more of this terrible dish over a deduction in price. Will not attend again.

WOW! Just had an absolutely wonderful meal. Tandoori mushrooms are superb. Butter Chicken, Beef Vindaloo, Safron Rice and Garlic Naan. Really superb taste and good prices.

The restaurant is definitely more than a 3 on rating scale. This was our second try from this restaurant, the first time we tried the food from deliveroo. This time we decided to eat at the restaurant. We started with the paneer tikka and samosa chat. Both were nice, the paneer tikka was better between the 2. The samosa chat was ok, not too sweet thankfully.
For mains we had the Bollywood dal which was the black dal and mixed vegetables. Both the mains were good, dal really nice and creamy. The only issue was the portion size between the 4 of us we got one spoon of each main. The lacha parathas were more like home made roti’s which was really nice for a change not too heavy.
We ended the meal with fig and almond kulfi, which I must say is one of best kulfi’s I have ever had. Overall really nice meal, good ambience, good service, just need larger portion sizes and more vegetarian options.

Delicious food, a more sophisticated & modern take on Indian cuisine (though the favourites are available too). Freshly made & delicious. Pleasant ambiance. Service was polite but a little slow & disinterested.

Good Ambience. Tried the lamb with garlic naan. Prompt service. Food was tasty and authentic as compared to other places in town. Highly recommend

This is the only decent Indian restaurant around Kingston which does actual Indian food.
The portions are generous and they have lunch specials as well.
My personal favourite is the Dal Makhni.

Dined in on a Thursday evening. Very busy, but service was prompt and attentive.
We shared the Bollywood leg of lamb, the daal bollywood and the palak paneer. The lamb did, as promised, "melt in the mouth", and was generously sized. The daal and paneer were also well proportioned.

Nothing we ate tasted bad - far from it. It's just that none of it had the kick that one would expect from Indian food. Indian food in Canberra seems to generally be very mild; even though the dishes we picked are generally on the milder side, I found that they were a bit on the bland side, especially the daal. The creaminess could have been dialled down on all three dishes.

Recommended for an inoffensive midweek meal - very family friendly.

Very thoughtful of them to give me a cup of kheer in my take away pack. Food is great. Will be back again. The daal was great and so was the cheese naan.

Back again for a cracking Butter Chicken, paired with two lamb cutlets. Delish. Can't go past it. Best Indian in Canberra.

Only one downside, got a whole meal roti rather than a normal one, not for me.

I was surprised how nice the food was here. We had the eggplant which was amazing and also the rogan josh curry and some naan. All excellent and ample enough we took the leftovers home. Service is a bit slow but hey, it's Canberra!!

Best Palak Paneer of MY LIFE. Words can't describe the flavours of the palak paneer - a humble spinach dish, who knew.

Always has friendly service, my boyfriend loves the lamb vindaloo - great balance of chilli, spice, herbs.

I could eat the saffron rice by itself, it is that delicious.

Beautiful atmosphere!. Gorgeous fit-out! Much more contemporary and different to any other Indian I've been to. Service was also very friendly and professional

Had a lovely dinner here last night. Loved the new starter menu, the chicken three ways (12) was delicious and excellent value! Usually butter chicken is my favorite here - it's the best in canberra- but the korma is now A close contender! I also reccomend the cheese naan, so so good!
All coupled with some great service. I'm certain that we will be back soon.

Clarification re Entertainment discount. Hi there. This is Bollywood Masala Kingston management. We just wanted to respond to the person who was expressing dissatisfaction with not receiving the Entertainment Book discount. We have confirmed with the Entertainment Book people and they have admitted their mistake. We are definitely not in the Entertainment Book since December, but they left us accidentally on one of their web discount sites while they took us off the other. So while we do apologise to the relevant customer, Entertainment Book colleagues have confirmed that this is their error and have addressed this now. We note that you liked the food and we thank you for that feedback.

OK but don't expect an Entertainment Book discount.
Visited 12 March 2014. The meal was quite good, Seek Kebab shared starter nothing special, the lamb and chicken mains quite nice and the naans were very good, soft and not at all greasy. The evening was spoiled when we were refused the Entertainment Book discount. We were told that the offer was "only for a limited time" even though the establishment is still listed on the EB web site.

Went Bollywood twice in one week with different groups of friends. All of us have raved about the food. The banquet ($39) was excellent value. The second night we had eggplant and a barramundi dish (now our favourite meal). Food was sensational. Good friendly service. Would be nice if there were candles on the table and the lights dimmed a little to create a bit more of an atmosphere.

We had the $39 banquet which took 2.5 hours to serve everything on a Thursday night. Food wasn't bad but not fantastic and it just took far too long for the food the come out.

Nothing special.. We went here for dinner. We ordered the usuals: Roti, Dal Makhni and some veggies in Navaratna Korma. The spice was not right for out palate and not as many options for vegetarians. The food is overpriced, with about 5$ higher per dish, compared to other restaurants around Dickson. Service was good and they allowed us to stay longer in the restaurant. But still, I will not go back.

Beautiful Indian Cuisine. Bollywood Masala has been a favorite of ours for a long time whilst traveling to Canberra, so I was excited to hear that they had opened a new restaurant. However, after reading a review from the Canberra Times I almost gave it a miss.

I am so glad I didn't - I love the new restaurant. The fresh and authentic flavours they deliver made me crave for more and the service as always was excellent. The fit out of the new restaurant is refreshing and elegant. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to friends traveling to Canberra.

Tasty but quite simple; - Lucknavi biryani - mildly spiced and flavoured rice, this one served with goat. Much less impacting than the Pakistani biryani that changed my culinary life at Needoo in London. Bukhara is supposedly the most famous Indian restaurant in the world with a menu that hasn't changed in 35 years. It specialises in north-west frontier cuisine and largely tandoor based. Sikandari raan (whole leg of lamb marinated for 24 hours in malt vinegar, cinnamon and black cumin and fin
