Review Tikka Take - Canberra

It was our third visit to Canberra and so to this amazing restaurant. We never leave Canberra without eating at Tikka Take. Delicious food and super quick service even on Easter weekend. Make sure to book a table during holidays. Thoroughly enjoyed the food and ambience. We have tried lot of stuff and everything has been great.

Great Indian cuisine! We had a fantastic experience, it was our first time trying Indian and it was very tasty. The food leans on the stronger side of flavours, and there are spice indicators as well. The menus a bit overwhelming, but our server helped us understand it all. The restaurant has a nice open feeling - great atmosphere.

Havent tried much Indian restaurant, but were looking for something different in Canberra. Tikka Take took our interest, it was a big place with nice bar of offer. The service from staff were great, they were really helpful in recommending what was their speciality. Food came up real quick and was really tasty and fresh. The drinks we order weren't particular to our taste.

Great Indian restaurant in the centre of Canberra. Fantastic variety of curries and other dishes, plus a great range of drinks. Always very busy so recommend making a booking.

I love the street food concept here. The menu is extensive, and there are a lot of different options to try. The pani puris and chaat dishes we tried were very good. We tried the special grilled club sandwich, and it had a strong spice flavour, a bit of an acquired taste. The lamb vindaloo was okay, it was like a cross between vindaloo and butter chicken. Great place to come with a group to share all the different street food options.

22Apr22: Dinning in again here after 3 years. Still the taste is good. Ordered : Chicken tikka skewers- 8/10 Chicken Momos - 5/10 Not great but ok, Chicken lollipop sizzler- 8/10 Idli Sambar - 7/10. It was very good 3 years back Sambar vada- 6/10 Masala puri - 9/10 Floating pani puri -9/10 chicken schezwan noodles - 4/10. I don’t like the taste. They are specialized for tikka and chat I guess. Very quick service.

You will definitely be spoiled by the options on menu. Easily crowded and make sure you book beforehand! Loved their butter chicken the most.

The food was very disappointing, the ordering system used by the business requires customers to write their own orders on a paper order form which was very lazy and inconveniencing for customers. When the food arrived the staff tried to push the plate of food over our head nearly dropping it on me. My butter chicken and rice was cold, and my garlic naan was under cooked. My wife's naan was burnt and covered in grease. Most of the food is ok, but it isn't worth the money. They also told my wife that they had no orange juice and then I saw them carrying a large orange juice bottle to the bar.

This place was amazing! The food was excellent, yummy and great serving sizes. Ordering is easy and fun. The staff were so friendly and let us sit and chat for hours. Occasionally someone would check in to make sure we didn’t need anything else. I thoroughly enjoyed this place and will be going back!

What a wonderful concept. And the food was oh so good! And staff - really, really helpful. We’ll be back again - the Lamb Korma was to do for! First mouthful took me back to the (olden) days of the Shalimar restaurant in Hobart Place.

Great concept for ordering food, all dishes are defined by alpha and numeric symbols, little note pads on tables that you pass to staff, food comes as you want it and is delicious. Reasonably priced as well.

Today I had dinner with my family and food served was not fresh , all stuff seems to be micro wave food. Not happy with service when complained to staff they said next time you will be served better food and that too fresh.... Not done.. Not happy at all.

I absolutely love this place! Delicious food and generous portion sizes. Quick service too!

Cannot fault this place. I walked in 30 minutes before closing on a Monday night with no idea where to start. A lovely staff member walked me through the menu and the food is spectacular and very reasonably priced.

We had the Sharing platter for two. It was amazing. The food was fresh and tasty! We could not eat all that was served. Try the Matsos Mango Beer! Yum

Checked out Tikka Take the very first time last night and it was soooo good! We ordered the "banquet" to try everything and I honestly couldn't pick which one is my favorite dish. Every single meat skewer, chicken, lamb and beef were juicy and succulent, mini nann soft and fresh, vegetable skewer and salad crunchy and yummm and the grilled paneer mouth watering. Highly recommended and can't wait to go back!

This place is fantastic - it's the Indian restaurant that dreams are made of, with all the favourites (especially from the south) in a very customer-friendly format. like the ordering method too, very novel. Staff are friendly too.

Healthy take on indian food. Will come back again. The masala rice dish with chicken tikka was wonderful.

Food served was stale.Naan was hard, chicken and lamb was not upto the mark. When complained received answer next time you will be served better and fresh food. This is not customer service.
Dandi Wisambudi
Very generous portion of the meal, tasty dessert, and great selections of beers & ciders

We were in Canberra for a foodie weekend and whilst our friends decided to go to an expensive hatted restaurant for a degustation, we were looking for something cheap and cheerful. We found Tikka Take via a google search and we are so glad we did. Located in the centre of Canberra CBD, the friendly service and quality food proves you don’t need fine dining to leave a restaurant happy and satisfied (nor with empty wallets).

I friend recommended this place, after having the food i can say that my expectations havent went wrong.
Really the food was awesome.i liked the indian strret food Dabeli and Dahi puri.
Morever their team members sakshi and others two female team members served us great with perfect suggestion..
I will visit again and a perfect recommendation for others😀

Very enjoyable expierence, love the modern looking restaurant and the easy ordering system. We had booked a table in advance yet still had to wait 20mins to be seated which was very disappointing. Food for each person came out very slowly so some people were waiting with food in front of them before their friends. Otherwise the food was delicious, not overly priced and easy to eat.

There should be a Tikka Take in every capital city in Australia. This is Indian food simplified and yet not watered down. Ordering is idiot-proof - every item is listed with a code - and you write it down on a chit and buzz a waiter to come collect. The Goan fish curry packed a decent punch and the mango lassi was deliciously laced with cardamom. While Melbourne has perhaps the largest Indian population in Australia, it is not reflected in the quality of Indian cuisine there. Tikka Take is truly a worthy ambassador of Indian cuisine.

Located at the Civic at Canberra,
This is a popular joint for Asian, Indian food!
And trust me it’s good!

I visited this twice
They have a unique system of writing down the order according to the respective codes given in the menu. Which is good, as you don’t have to wait for service. They have a ring bell buzzer that you can press to call for their attention to your table...

First time I had the chicken tikka wrap
Some sodas and sev puri
Wrap was very heavy and filling! But delicious!
The Kalakhatta soda and the ginger lemon soda were a treat!

Second time we had the vegan thalis and the mughlai chicken biryani...
Both were very extravagant and nice!
However the biryani could have a bit more flavour and spice! The onion and tomatoes were missing! Felt like I was having a plain pulao rice with pieces of boneless chicken!
So I was disappointed by that!
I hope they improve on that!

Food- 4/5
Cost- 4/5
Quality- 4/5
Quantity- 4/5
Ambience- 5/5
Service- 4/5

On our way back to sydney upon a friends suggestion we landed at this place and boy was it worth every dollar .....the food was absolutely delicious and something very similar to what we have back in mumbai ....the staff was very resourceful and prompt and the food flowed .....into our stomach.....and it was a wonderful experience .....Must have are the goan prawns curry and the chicken hyderabadi biryani along with fish tandoori skewer and chili pakoda chaat and among the desserts pista kulfi and kesar pista falooda are must haves....

This place usually has a line so we went for a super early dinner. The place is super warm (bit of a contrast to the freezing weather outside). And you get punched in the face with the smell as soon as you enter, so beware of your clothing! :) A huge selection of menu. We ordered thali, curry and a dosa to share. Highlights: different flavours and relatively inexpensive. Lowlights: service was friendly but all over the show.

It was a cold Sunday evening in Civic and this restaurant was pumping. Given this was perhaps the busiest restaurant in the area, our expectations were set high.

The restaurant is large but packed tightly to accommodate a big crowd. Our overall experience was mixed: our drinks order wasn’t delivered correctly and required several follow-ups with staff to get this resolved. Our entrees also arrived after mains, despite being assured by staff this wouldn’t happen.

The portion sizes are a little below average but the quality and taste of food was quite good overall. A great selection to choose from and an energetic environment to dine in.

Overall, Tikka Take fell somewhat short of our expectations. The food was reasonable, but there simply weren’t enough staff for the large number of customers and the strain showed throughout the night.

Awesome food. Great staff. Amazing variety. Been there 3 times in 2 days already. A Must go for India food lovers .
Thali, pani puri basket , amaras puri, papadi chat.. n much more ..

Terrible. Waited over 1 hour for our meals. If you have the capacity to seat 130+ people but can't keep up with orders then cut your table space. Ordered 2 dishes, one of which was lamb Rogan Josh. It was the absolute WORST we've ever had. Lamb was tough and chewy like a bad steak. They had obviously run out of slow cooked lamb for the night and tried to improvise with a lamb chop cut into cubes and thown into Rogan Josh sauce. We overheard the wait staff telling another table that they had run out of lamb later in the evening. Wish they had told us, we would've ordered something else. I've have better Indian in the UNSW food court. I honestly do not get the hype.
On another note, it's a bad idea to have an open kitchen at an Indian restaurant. You will leave reaking of curry - be prepared to dryclean your coat, and wash your hair afterwards.

The most incredible service and food. Beyond fast, beyond perfect, every meal and beverage is on time, with a big smile.
Price is very reasonable.

Of every different flavor cuisine I have ever had, this is my favourite, except for Hungarian, as I am Hungarian 😁

Needs more reviews, VERY underrated!

Super authentic. Really great value. We had the two mini curries / naan/ daal platter and some chicken tikka. But what really rubbed me the wrong way was that they seated a table of 7 before they seated a table of 2 and before seating a table of 3 despite both smaller parties arriving before the larger party. Not cool.

I tried the following Dishes; Korma Biryani, Lamb Vindaloo and Lamb Biryani. None of these dishes actually impressed me. The Korma Biryani was not a good select, in fact it was very sour, not sure it was Amchoor but I returned the dish as it was rather dry too. The lamb biryani had 2 pieces of meat and the rice was over saturated with cardamon and parsely. The vindaloo was too sweet for my liking which makes me think the entire menu is south Indian (and not labelled either).
Finally the ambience is terrible, they blast western pop music to the point where you drive past and think it's a rave, I couldn't it get a word in with my company so dont go there if you wish to chat.

Have been to this place a number of times.
They have some really good indian street food options.
Have tried many items off the menu but I like the south indian dishes more than the others.Do try their masala lemonade.

This place is the most delicious place ever!
All the dishes are tasty and beautifully presented.
The decor is pleased and modern.
Perfect for big groups and there is an option on the menu for everyone.
I highly recommend it, never disappointing.

This is a must go place for people who enjoy Indian cuisine.. Most of the dishes I have tasted is quite close to the authentic taste of the dishes except for a few. The ambience and service is pretty good. Dessert section is pretty limited though. Overall, a nice experience ...

Awesome food on the go. Yes, pictures on the menu are exactly served on plate. Snowfall at Thredbo and yummy food at Tikka Take made our day and trip. Why they r not in Sydney!?!? Definitely dnt mind taking a detour and coming here over n over.

The decor of this place is so nice. We instantly felt like giving it a try. Friendly staff.
Best mango lassi we've tasted in Australia!!! It was amazing. A total must try.
The Goan prawn curry and rice wasnt great. No where close to the authentic thing. The prawns were overcooked and the curry was extra tangy and definitely extra spiced. Didn't quite enjoy it. The chola batura was good. The batura was super fluffy and soft. Yumm.

I have been at this place a few times last few months and everytime this place makes me feel the explorer inside me come alive. I am from Mumbai- India and I keep my sense of street food always sharp and Cognizant. Let me take you to this place where at the very entrance you see the extensive Menu been served and you can't wait to get in and be served. The friendly and welcoming staff do add to the overall good score of the restaurant. As I was enticed by seeing the familiar street food menu, I decided to delve in and try my pick. The ordering system is also unique wherein you are given a pencil and scribble pad to write down the order and quantity. The moment you have made your mind on your order you press the buzzer and the friendly staff walks in to take your orders. The most impressive part is the timming of the service which is Swift and hassle free. My personal favourite street food is the Vada pav ( don't forget to try the green chilly which comes with it) and the masala chai along with Dabeli ( you won't be disappointed Gujjus). The BHEL and Chat are also worth trying. Honestly I always made it a point to go there to satiate my street food cravings but have never yet tried the curries and the traditional Indian dishes. I can definitely recommend the desserts if you have a sweet tooth like me, try the gajjar ka halwa and Gulab jamoon.!!! On a nice summer afternoon the Gola ( there are four different flavours) and the kulfi are also worth a try.

I would make a sincere plea to the guys who are doing an excellent job to add few more of the varieties in street food snacks like jalebi fafda, poha and upma if possible.

I would in future would definitely review the main course meal and let you know guys till then enjoy your food and stay blessed!! Cheers

Went for a relaxed meal with my wife and brother. It was the perfect venue. Food was absolutely delicious and customer service was extremely warm and friendly. Will definitely visit again on our next visit to Canberra.

Loved the spicy peanuts and Paneer Tikka. Friend had the Paneer Biryani which looked delicious. Rest of the menu read like a children's delight. Chaats galore and Tikkas left right and center. Service was prompt and provided with a smile.

We went here for my husband's birthday and ate till our stomachs were full. The spice level was just what you would get back home on the streets. We started with masala chaas and panni puri.

Masala chaas is a yogurt based drink with spices it's more like a refreshing drink. Panni puri are the small deep fried balls filled with potato and onions, it's served with a sweet and spicy water. You add as much as you want of each.

For mains we went for the mushroom skewers and a thali. The mushroom skewers were ok went well with the mint chutney. Thali has always been a dish with several curries, dal, rice, salad, roti, yougurt and finally a dessert. Its a meal from start to end. In this thali you can choose any 2 curries and the type of naan.

We went for paneer tikka masala and chole with garlic and coriander naan. The dal and chole was great. The paneer tikka masala felt like it was from one of the ready to eat meals you get. Too artificial and a lot of colour. The thali at 30$ per person is a bit steep but it's a meal by itself you don't need anything else.

Overall an excellent meal, great service. The dosa or the chaat are next on my agenda.

What a wonderful dinner! The service is excellent, the food is tasty and the prices are very reasonable. It’s not grubby or stuffy, everything was fresh and delightful. When you walk in you’re greeted by the best smell ever, so aromatic without being overpowering. We were informed that the menu is new - and I wanted to try everything on it! We had the chicken tikka masala, butter chicken, rice and garlic naan, and the rose and mango lassi’s and everything was delicious. Definitely would come back to try the dosa as the range of the menu is massive

You can find this restaurant from its savory smell of grilling meat and the spicy smell of curries.
There are lots of pictures in their menu book for you to see what you will get. Most of the dishes are served like the pictures on the menu. You can see how good to have the pictures of the dishes because you are able to see how much there is and how it looks. For that reason, you can challenge some dishes which you might have not tried before.

I hope the Tikka Take shop comes to Melbourne.

Will definitely redefine the worst version of a Roll.I always know that west has a different rendition of Asian food ;however this was the most horrible version I have come across.Ordered a Tandoori tikka roll and Korma roll and both were equally horrible.
Who puts so many irrelevant veggies in a non veg roll.Uncut lettuce, tomatoes and shit load of other veggies.
It was nothing but a debacle guys; just a piece of advice keep it simple with the base that somebody ask for alongside a bit of onions and shredded lettuce and chutney and Ul do wonders.
I'm really happy with the brand new menu, loved the paani puri and samosa chaat. The dabeli isn't my cup of tea but everyone else really enjoyed it.

Nice location, high ceilings, sunlight in the spring :)

The tandoori paneer tikka roll reminded me of an old-school frankie. Definitely trying out the south Indian menu next!

Fresh ingredients, the food has a bit of a kick, and the atmosphere is chilled out and well-designed. I'm looking forward to coming back here with some friends.

Delicious, fast, friendly and good value. I've eaten here a few times now, as I work in the city. If you haven't given this place a go yet, you are missing out on a good feed. The staff here have always been friendly and helpful.
