I was introduced to this place by a friend when I first moved to Canberra. In the 5 months I lived there, I have been here atleast 5 times.
I have tried everything vegetarian on their menu and have loved it all. My favorite though has been the veggie pizzas. Full of taste and cooked to perfection.
If you don't mind paying a little extra every once in a while, La Rustica is a great choice for good food with the right ambiance.
Headed here for dinner to catchup with friends, very noisy restaurant and seating is a little bit cramped but the food was great. Very nice Italian.
I absolutely love this place. Always busy, not the quietest place however the food and service is exceptional. The Balmain bug spaghetti is one of my favourite dishes. Also having tried the risotto, ravioli and antipasto plates and I really think this place is an all rounder. Wouldn't recommend going if on a budget but if you're after great Italian, good wine and great location and service La Rustica should be at the top of your list.
"La Rustica by the Lake" is a big Italian restaurant/bar that opens out onto the Kingston foreshore terrace. The fit out is lovely dark, warm wood tones and has a genuine Italian feel to it. I love a good wrought iron chandelier when used appropriately. Apparently the owners are from southern Italy so I guess the place is legit. There is heaps of seating so I doubt you would need to book to get in, we certainly didn't. The staff placed us quickly at a lovely table centrally in the restaurant. No sitting next to the toilets today thank you! This is especially risky with a pram as they like to keep you out of the way. They were also really quick with menus and service in general which was great because, as always, I was staaaaaarving.

Wow!!! Amazing food coupled with warm gracious service. I would love to go back again and again. This is the restaurant we visited on our first night in canberra and it was a great experience!!!!
Went for a work lunch and was pleasantly surprised. The lunch took a lot longer than expected, but they were very accommodating and weren't in our faces about still being there gas bagging over a few more vinos when all the other patrons had left. Love the old family restaurant type service!
I went to La Rustica thinking it'd be your typical traditional Italian restaurant with high prices and small serves but the serves were quite generous and the food was all really well made. Surprisingly, the pumpkin and potato mash was probably the highlight for me and I don't generally even eat mashed potato at all.
The service was quite good and the staff were there when we needed them and gone when we didn't, they were also very pleasant even with how busy they were.
The only let down was that all the windows/doors were open and on a 36 degree day that made the restaurant VERY hot. They might need some ceiling fans if that is business as usual. We were all hoping to go somewhere and escape the heat but instead were sweating at our table.
La Rustica yet again provided our group with a great dining experience encompassing both great food and friendly service. I've yet to be disappointed by La Rustica, it manages to provide great authentic Italian food that is always served with sharing in mind.
The meals are always fresh and you really can't go wrong with anything on the menu. Be sure to call if you're hoping to get a large group in as the restaurant is prone to being full due to its popularity with the canberra crowd.
Amazing food, great service but very awkward bowls.... Great pizza and pasta with a perfect serving size, although pasta was served in a very awkward sized bowl. Ravoli was delicious, but very hard to cut as they are so large, and the bowl is so 'steep' and tall.
As a table of 6 we were fitted in without a booking. All of the staff were friendly and helpful. We were well-looked after, never waiting long for assistance. 3/6 ordered pizzas while the remaining 3 ordered pastas. Having the Spaghetti Pescatore myself, I was left full and very satisfied with a dish that was full of flavour and texture.
Very impressive and would definitely go back.
Simply delicious. I celebrated one of my birthdays at La Rustica with friends and family, and from the minute we arrived to the minute we left, staff were very attentive. Win!
The food was exquisite. No one had anything bad to say about it. Win!
The overall atmosphere of the venue is warm and friendly. Win!
Signage should be well lit and visible; especially at night. Fail.
Overall, worth a visit.
Breakfast - Wow! First time here and blown away. I thought the prices were expensive until I saw the portions. The Benedict was good and the Breakfast Bruscetta rocked. Service was great. A pleasant surprise on a cold, wet, Sunday morning.
It's open at last! All the old La Rustica favourites are here, in a bright new setting on the Kingston foreshore. It's busier and roomier, but the service is still friendly and the good is delicious. Gnocchi Sorrento is a standout dish. I find the pizza a bit ordinary, but the mains and salads are generally very good and the desserts are very...Italian. Worth a visit to reacquaint with this old Kingston favourite.
The menu offers many Italian favourites, in generous sizes that are well suited for sharing. Spacious and airy, it is nicely situated on the Kingston Foreshore
