Review Papparich - Canberra

Aasifa Ruhani
Papa Rich - Paradise for Malaysian Food in Canberra located on the ground floor of Canberra Centre! If you are looking for some great Malaysian authentic cuisine, i would highly recommend this place.. In frame - Roti Canai with Chicken Curry, Sambal Eggplant 🍆, Dried spicy Shrimp đŸ€, Satay Chicken and for dessert we had - Roti bomb. Served with sugar and condensed milk..trust me it feels like heaven..đŸ˜đŸ„° Absolutely amazing customer service and with some yummy food 😋

PappaRich is a casual Malaysian restaurant located in the center of Canberra between Bunda street and Cooyong street. Popular restaurant that was fairly full on a Monday night. The service was friendly and extremely quick. The food was presented well but I thought it was just ok, a little bland. The dining area is one large room with lots of tables so it gets really loud.

Really good experience. Ordered and had my drink within 3 minutes and food within 5 mins. Food was excellent for a fast Casual eatery. $22 for a main and a fresh watermelon juice. Highly recommend this if you want a quick casual meal in Canberra.

We had two meals, one of them was pretty mediocre & the other one was so-so. Overall my wife & I were not happy with our food at all! I wanted to give 1 star but I changed my mind, cause the 2nd star is for the portions which were not small so at least you won’t leave the restaurant hungry if you finish your food (if you manage to finish it tho!) Btw, one of the meals was noodle with beef; the beef was literally like plastic & not tender, and the noodle was nothing special. The other meal was fried chicken with rice, eggplant, prawn, and cucumber. Chicken in this dish was bland & tasteless. Anyway I don’t recommend & we’ll never get back to this restaurant again, although I hope they make changes to their food quality. Respect

A great place to go when you’re having a late lunch. Went around 2:30pm and everything was still available. One of the best places for Kang kung - lots of wok hey and never disappoints! Because it was a rainy day, decided to have their laksa for the first time
you definitely get your money’s worth, $15.90 for a large bowl of laksa!!! We also had the Hainan toast with condensed milk and the kaya and butter toast, super satisfying as a dessert!

PappaRich excels at their chosen style of food - quick, well-priced, and tasty Malaysian food. The menu is expansive and I love all the beverage options. The restaurant is bustling with noise and the ordering beep going off but it adds to the atmosphere. I feel like I’m in Asia whenever I dine here.

Just as expected, super quick service and delicious food. Always a great place to grab a quick feed!

Ever since lockdown started, the food portion has been getting smaller and smaller. I always ordered nasi lemak from this restaurant. They started being skimpy on giving adequate amount of sambal sauce for nasi lemak. At most they gave two tablespoonful of sambal for yr nasi lemak which is not enough at all. Recently, the sambal sauce was less thick and very watery. Seems like they started to dilute the sambal with water. My photos show the nasi lemak I received (before i ate it) and how little the portion is compared to eating in the restaurant before lockdown. Very disappointing.

I have been about 15-20 times since Paparich Canberra opened and have enjoyed consistently delicious food each time. The serving sizes and quality of food are quite generous for the price (as far as Canberra food prices go), and there is a wide selection. I also love the variety of drinks, and they make a nice strong [hot] milk tea. After reading some other reviews, I agree it's probably not the most family friendly place for young children and babies, as it can be quite crowded and noisy and you do need to wait in line for a table if it's busy. Food comes out one at a time, because it's just that type of restaurant - but it does come out fast. If you are looking for affordable, quick, hearty Malaysian food in a casual setting then I definitely recommend.

Tonight's dinner visit was a huge disappointment. Although I've voiced this out to the person in charge, it needs to be brought up again that the staff was extremely rude and pushy to my kids and I. If my kids weren't involved, I would chalk it up to bad luck. But first of all, the skinny waiter with glasses (one of the twins) shoved his way between tables and pushed my 8mth old's chair so hard it slid and hit out table and he never apologized. Secondly, yes I know the place is busy therefore we've always made it a point to eat fast and leave so others get a spot, but to have two waiters (short girl with specks and another guy I can't recall, both in blue) block our way and start stacking plates messily right above my children's heads while they struggled to get out of their chairs is ridiculous! And they proceeded even though I said stop and let my kids out first! It's sad because we frequent Papparich so often as the food is closest to authentic Malaysian food, but the lack of respect for families with young kids is appaling. I was not asked who the staff were that caused such a horrible experience, and that is why I'm directing my complaint here.

Worst Papparich we 've been too! The service was horrible. They just shove the plates on our table without even telling what it is. And we found a hair on my hainanese chicken rice. When I told them about it, the waitress response was "We didn't put hair in the kitchen". As if I would put hair in my own food. Yuck!! And she then argued taking it back to the kitchen. It is disgusting!!

We are regular visitors for Sunday lunch. Great food, excellent staff and service and reasonable prices.

Some would say that i clogged your toilet, but I like to believe that your beef rendang clogged it. Either way, I give this place a 4 flush rating. Well done

Last night trip was very disappointed:( the place was all empty and once seated and order food we noticed empty seats away from the door as it was wet and cold in Canberra yesterday but supervisor on duty was very rude and forced us to eat food at our table as we can't move seats after order taken n food still not served..If this wasn't a birthday dinner I would have left the place without waiting for order. .very Rude and unprofessional service

I love Pappa Rich. It's the best, can recommend.

This place is great. Very popular as it was constantly full. At one point, the line waiting almost reached nandos next door! The food is excellent. Recommend Pappas special nasi lemak and tandoori dish!

This is a great casual dining restaurant. Lovely food. Brings Malaysia to the heart of CBR.

Great place with most lovely staff. Clean n tidy

Waited and worth it. Food is great service can be iffy but hey, they are young. Been back. Magic again and best laksa in town
Juan Manuel Villatobas
Went there for the second time and food and service was excellent on both occasions
Cadda Mush
Food was delicious and very reasonably priced for the location. We'll be going back.

Bad customer service the waitress was so rude and the food was very late to come out

First time try this famous restaurant! Hainan bread with kaya jam is sooo good! Fried rice noodles taste like my favorite Canton cuisine. Love it!
Hansolo
Not bad. Like any other paparich I’ve been to. Not sure what more I can say about it. Average Malay food at ok prices. Service is hit and miss.
Mo Benedic
I very much dislike the way we were treated by the supervisor art this restaurant. It's like eating at a third world roadside restaurant in Asia.
The dead fly in the chili sauce was just disgusting.
Candice
The worst restaurant I’ve ever been! The female supervisor named Cat is extremely rude! I’ve never seen any service like this before! We were kicked out when we were there for lunch! Kick your customer out?! That’s the worst restaurant ever!
Savio
Visit this place very often when in Canberra. Tried the biryani rice with beef rengdang and egg plant. Delicious meals as usual, good portions and pocket friendly. Also tried the chicken skewers with Roti. Highly recommend
Kriti
This has been the venue of most of our office get togethers. The menu is extensive and has something or the other for everyone.
I like their prawn and chicken combo served with sambal and rice as well as their roti Kaya
Tintin Francisco
I am a true laksa fan and I believe this is where I found the best laksa I have ever had in my life. The serving is huge, I love the texture of the dried tofu against the creamy coconut based soup. Eggplant is a favourite and I liked that too. Seafood like shrimp and mussels were huge so I definitely left with a happy belly. Total value for money.
Salonie Dua
The portion size is large enough to fill you up. The flavours are nice and mild. The decor is comfortable and its a good place to chat while eating.

We saw PappaRich so many time in Melbourne and every time wondered why there’s always queue outside! It took us a long road trip to Canberra this Easter to find the answer. We didn’t order much. Only Nasi Lemak. The taste was really good and meat was so tender. Star of the dish was prawn sambal. Quantity was good. Would definitely return there to try on other dishes.
Marista Gilang Mauldina
The food is a bit lack of spice. I ordered nasi lemak ayam goreng, deep fried chicken skin, and char kwetiao. The best among them is char kwetiao, but still miss some flavors.
Sebastian A
PapaRich’s signature fried chicken wings are always a hit with us.
Their char kuay teow was always on point. Wish they could make it spicier.
Service is always prompt and serving sizes are generous.
Foodieee
Have been there a few times and always got good quality food. Be prepared to wait for a few minutes for lunch as it can be really busy. Over all good food and good service. I ordered some items I'm not familiar with and I didn't like but that was my mistake.
R
Coming here, it's always busy and full, which is heart warming and reassuring. The wait staff are generally pretty good, they get you what you want (sometimes they forget to bring you water so you'd have to ask).

Tonight we had roti with beef curry and some sweet chicken dish rice mixed with sultanas. The curry dishes never disappoint, but today's beef was a bit, and too stiff to eat (chicken curry would be better) but the roti is 👌 nice and crispy- not too sweet or salty.
Was not a fan of sultanas mixed in rice, but the chicken was fried in a way that the inside was still juicy and soft, but the skin somewhat crispy 😍. The sauce was great- unexpectedly sweet, but still good, and the spicy prawns topped it off nicely (cucumbers were a bit old though).
Plus there's a large drink selection, and I never know what to drink cos I wanna try them all. But you can't go wrong with a lychee and soda.

Overall, my experiences here have been quite well. The food is super flavoursome and sweet and salty. So if you're a person who prefers food on a plainer scale, probably not the restaurant for you.
Magic Sapphire
As per previous reviews I also received condescending, appalling service. The wait staff seem to have an attitude problem and would prefer to ignore customers than help. Firstly the cashier didn’t acknowledge us, then a waiter told us to wait 5 mins which turned to 20mins. Had to ask three times for table water; I understand the restaurant was busy but it was a simple request, I didn’t ask them to “turn water into wine”. The food was below average and the Assam laksa tasted watered down.
I will never go to this store again, you can get better Malaysian food and service elsewhere. If I could give a zero or negative rating I would as they don’t deserve a one.
Javed
Had a nice time when we went for lunch.
They had a cozy ambience, not too lavish but not too simple either.
We had a variety of dishes. I liked their chicken satay, especially the mild-spicy sauce that accompanied it was a treat for me. Next I had a Nasi Lemak which was both tasty and had quiet good quantity.
Overall I would recommend this place if you want to try Malaysian cuisine.
Jamesfoodies
Very Disappointed! They served raw chicken meat in the rice noodle dish. And I found a sizeable piece of plastic in a pudding I was eating. The food was not expected! Not recommended!

So let's start with the obvious: PappaRixh is a chain restaurant and there are plenty of them right across Australia (and other countries). Fortunately, that's for a good reason.

The restaurant was bustling after work on Friday night. After queuing for 5 minutes, we were seated. The ordering system is quite efficient, but don't expect much assistance in navigating the menu. That being said, ordering is simple enough.

The Beef Rendang with Roti Bawang was excellent. Hot and soft roti served with a fiery, flavoursome rendang, with accompaniments. To be honest, I was expecting a slightly larger serve, but the size was certainly reasonable.

The Teh Tarik was also reasonable enough, but not a standout.

Overall, PappaRich offered good value for money, quick service and a fast, tasty meal. I would return for a quick, casual meal.

Supposedly closes at 22:00, but arrived at 21:06 for them to condescendingly tell me the kitchen is closed! More than 50 minutes to close a kitchen? What a ridiculous restaurant. Staff are a joke and rude. I'm boycotting this franchise.
Aaron Mangos
The food is really good, the prices are great and the service is really quick, their doorbell system for each table works really well, will definitely be returning.

Today you are going to get an extra special treat. We are going to discuss a favourite food haunt and get not one, but two copycat recipes. Amazeballs right? Let’s get into it. Pappa Rich is a chain Malaysian restaurant located everywhere in Australia and New Zealand. There is a reason it is so extensive, for fast food they offer some really interesting choices on their menu. They also have a very efficient concept where you select your food, write it on an order form and ring the bell so they will collect it. This means no faffing around waiting for service. You choose food, they cook food, food is delivered at maximum speed. This I love. I hate waiting for food because I am always staaaarving.

On the ground floor of Canberra centre in Civic, this branch is packed with people at all times. Service is attentive and super efficient. The nasi lemak is great, the roti telur bawang divine (especially with the beef rendang or the chicken curry). I usually have a lychee soda to finish off the meal. Great value for money for good food. Recommended!

Quick fix for Malaysian food craving but sometimes too long of a queue. Quick and efficient services. Flavour combination screams Malaysian loudly. I've tried a few options on their drink list and haven't come across any disappointment yet.
Feinschmecker Kerl
We come here for some Malaysian food from time to time. Our favourite dishes hands down are the fried chicken skin and the chicken congee! The ordering style by writing codes on a piece of paper is great as it is quick and reduces possibility of errors. Most of the dishes offered are of good quality, but without much "wow" factor. Given there's not much competition in Canberra, it's still a go to place for us. The worst thing is they place a surcharge on credit AND debit card payments. Pappa Rich, surely you are already making enough profits to spare your customers from this "sour tasting" policy.
Adventures In Winterland
I haven’t been to PappaRich in years, but on a chilly day I stopped by on a whim for lunch. It took a while for me to attract attention to order, but when I did, went for the Roti Canai with Tandoori Chicken ($15.90), plus a lychee soda ($4.90). The lychee soda came out first in a huge glass with a few whole lychees inside. This is quite a sweet drink, with refreshing lime and a nice fizz to it. The roti arrived shortly after, with a reasonable-sized portion of chicken, the roti itself, and two dipping sauces – one a spicy sort of chutney, the other a cooling raita. Let me say, the roti is to die for. Soft, fluffy and easy to break apart, this was a pure delight to
Eat Canberra
PappaRich is conveniently located in the Canberra Centre and is good value for yummy Malaysian food and quick service! The satay was delicious and they have heaps of different drink to try. We also had the sago pudding for dessert and that was really yummy! Oh and they also have fried chicken skin.... #treatyoself
Julie
I ordered Ipoh kuay teow soup with steam chicken. They use the chicken breast, doesn't taste as good as chicken leg. The soup is salted but satay chicken is really good.
Shijing Wang
A good place for quick lunch. The chicken here is very tender and nice. I also like the rice with coconut milk here. By the way, try the beverage here!
Lourdes Ji
Laksa used to be nice. Now, it is greasy, fast service and eatable. Recommend drinks (milk tea kinds) here. Will not be going there for a while..........
Baz Juan Pablo Sanchez
Still my favorite Malaysian place to eat.

I love the fact this place eats like I'm in Malaysia, there's no political correctness at work here. It is what it is and I love that.

Food is incredibly well priced and service is fast and efficient, throw in the great food and this place wins hands down
MoodandFood
When this place first opened up the portion sizes were large and affordable, not to mention delicious. However, I've found that the quality of their food has significantly decreased, along with the size of the meal, but yet the price has increased. The roti canai has shrunken in size over time, and the last time we came, the curry chicken that came with it was quite cold. The kway teow has a lot of bean sprouts and eggs, probably the same amount as the noodles but it still has a great flavour. The chicken congee is hit and miss. On some days the congee is too salty, and other days it can very bland and watery, like soup. The chicken that is served with the congee has often been tough and full of tendons large pieces of fat that aren't chewable. It's a shame that the quality of PappaRich has fallen from how it was before, it's quite average now.
DianaW
This food is far from authentic, but is reasonably priced so hence the busy lunch trade.. We opted for the nasi goreng which is hard to get wrong & we thought it to be passable. Pass on the coffee though weak & watery brew. Watermelon juice a safer option, but not cheap at almost $6 a glass
Jason Meaden
Pretty standard for Paparich. If you haven't been to one before, this one is as generic and balms as the next one - so you might as well check it out.

A great many people love these restaurants - I am not one of those people. But your mileage may vary. The milo dinosaur is a treat.
Andrew Stewart
I didn't realise this was a chain I assumed it was a one of owned and operated Malaysian restaurant
Service is non existent you order yourself press your little buzzer and the come and take from you which you have written down for them, no explanation as to what various meals are the response to "are there any favourites" was "everyone's different" nah you don't say.
Poor form of want chain food I'll head to Better ones which aren't as pricey
James Cheng
Had Nasi lemak which had only a pinch of sambal. Coconut rice which had no coconut taste. Sambal tasted awful as well. Teh Tarik was yuck.

Wouldn't go back for Malaysian food. Would rather pay for a flight back to kl to eat something more authentic. But i suppose for canberra's standard of Malaysian food, must be pretty ok cos it's pretty crowded..

Update: went back again after 2 years and surprise surprise!! The Nasi lemak has improved!! Better rice quality and better sambal. Seems that they must have changed chefs..
Pooja
Amazing food... The roti canai is to die for and the curries are perfectly cooked as well. The drinks are to die for and the experience is incomplete without ordering one. Very reasonable pricing with consistent good quality food
Blacksheep
Burnt chips anyone?

These waiters and waitresses need to focus on their customers and stop the chatter amongst themselves just because the boss isn't around.
Jack
Meet and curry cooked beautifully. Chilli spices often overpowered the delicate favour. Dried "side" dish makes no sense and doesn't add value to the overall dish.
Clean The Plate
PappaRich is part of a chain of restaurants which offer Malaysian style food. The one in Canberra is usually very busy at lunch time and has the odd honour of being one of the few restaurants which will not seat anyone if they are waiting for someone to arrive. The menu is outside so you can determine if there is anything that appeals to your taste and includes a wide range of noodles, satays, rice and bread dishes including eggs and bread. Some of the drinks include Teh Tarik (hot milk tea) and Kopi O (strong black coffee with sugar).
David Heacock
Great laksa and curry, nice fast service. My regular lunch spot. Try the roti with egg and red onion, it it amazing. My favourite drink is the iced coconut and lychee.

Disappointed. Food was not good as expected :(
Hulio
Dissapointed and unhelpfull.. Went for a family birthday and was very disappointed. The food was bland, expensive and the portion size miniscule compared to other restaurants I have experienced.

A quick review on the web says it caters to Coeliacs(Gluten free friendly. See above), but when we went there, all that was offered was one dish, plain chicken rice with no flavour! We had to get aporto chicken for my daughter. Other Malaysian and Chinese restaurants we go to are very helpful in this regard with multiple dishes.

My biggest peeve is paying a premium for small portions and poor quality. The Roti and chicken for $12 was laughable. One tiny Roti and one tiny piece of chicken that looked like a quail.

Very disappointed.
Food.reviews2012
Delicious food and beverages :). Good service and yummy food!
Michelle M
Ok, but limited. It does not have a big selection. I find the meals ok, but lacks very good flavour. You can't vary selections easily. It is fast service and cheap prices. You get what you pay for.
Javier Frances
Rude Cashier/Manager today 14th November. Have similar experience of other diners. Cashier was rude very rude. She treated me like sh*t. Maybe because I'm Asian? And I think she is a racist Asian, hah! Dined & ordered take away Beef Rendang & guess what? when my daughter open the food container I was given the wrong food. I feel that management must retrain Papparich staff regarding good customer service. I have read so many negative feedback regarding their Manager/Cashier, wait staff. It couldn't get worse than this. Papparich you owe me a refund.
Grumpyaccountant
Early dinner @ PappaRich Canberra Centre today 14 November 2014. Similar experience with the other dinners. Staff are insensitive to customers especially the Cashier. She's rude esp. to Asians. Nice to Non-Asians only, what's her problem? She must be a racist Asian, hah! Asian or not, we pay the same, we even give them a reasonable tip. Management needs to retrain their staff regarding good customer service, because if a business establishment lacks the proper decorum toward it's clients, chances are, they won't go back to dine there again no matter how good their food is. I ordered take away Beef Rendang with Chicken and guess what? When my daughter opened the take away container they gave me the wrong food. So annoying!!! Maybe management should teach their staff how to read as well. Hhhhhhhmmmmmmpppppp!!! Fail Fail Fail.
Checkmeout108
We had being to this restaurant twice, first time was the day this restaurant opened - staff were pleasant and decent quantity of food was served. Second time we were seated near the entrance, we requested to be seated elsewhere because of the cold weather and our baby was all shivers. They were reluctant to move us in spite of other tables becoming available. Food quantity has reduced compared to the first time. Third time they were rude and told us that we cant take the pram inside, how are we supposed to seat a sleeping baby. We decided to never eat from here ever again. This was the worst experience we had in all of Canberra.
Missperfec
Chicken Tandori very dry. I went to Paparich with my family. We ordered a few dishes to share. One of the meal was the Chicken Tandori. There was one piece of chicken maryland which was so so dry and awful. Not edible. ...for $14.90 and not up to the standard, we felt that it was a waste if money. Paparich should check the meals before it leaves the kitchen more carefully or risk loosing potential long term customers.
Madeeha.mehfooz
Disappointed. Its the second time we have our food at paparich and what we have realized is to visit this place only when its super busy. As you wont get fresh stuff if its not bz. Drinks were not of usual standard as well.
GluttonY
Rude and Ridiculous Service. Members of the ANU Malaysian Students Organisation (MSO) are entitled to free drinks when membership card is shown to the staff upon collection of docket. My friends and I presented our membership card and specified clearly that we wanted the free drinks. The staff that collected our docket, the owner, took down our drinks order (2 Pappa Mocha and 1 Ice lemon tea) and jotted down “MSO” at the ‘Remarks’ section of the docket for the Pappa Mocha and made a Ditto Mark for the Ice lemon tea. When the docket was returned to us, we realized that we were charged for the ice lemon tea and immediately notified this to one of the staff. The staff then came back and told us that they made a mistake about it. However, no new docket was given to us.

When we went to pay at the counter, we related the problem to the manager. She then said she could not issue a new docket and we had to pay for the ice lemon tea. Though we told her clearly that we did present our MSO membership card to the staff who collected our order, she said it was our fault for not making it clear. We insisted that we were not at fault because we did show our card and we should not be paying for the mistake that they made. It’s obvious that the manager lied through her teeth when she said she could not issue a new docket. I have seen them issuing new dockets when they made a mistake about the orders. The manager proceeded to say things like, “I know you are Malaysian, I am also Malaysian but I cannot help you. The ice lemon tea is only $3.90, it’s not that I don’t want to help you but I cannot issue new docket.” What a cheap trick; it seems to us that Papparich isn’t keen at all to offer free drinks to MSO members. If they aren’t generous enough, why must they act as though they are generous?

Because of our persistence, the manager relented at last and refunded the money. She clearly was not pleased and said things like “Last time you also like this right, argued about the same thing. Now I have to deduct my staff’s wage etc”. Not a single apology was given despite them being at fault and the manager appeared as though we had bullied her.

What a rude service. Will never visit again.
Mili
Disappointed. After seeing photographs on Instagram I was so looking forward to going to eat there. Staff were friendly. We ordered several dishes including a bowl of rice. The rice came to the table more than 5 minutes before the other dishes. Beef Rendang was cold. Had not been heated through properly. Satays and a vegetarian noodle dish were tasty . Winner on the night were the rotis.best
Caitlin Naidoo
Perhaps a bit too rich for my liking. But good if that is what you are looking for.
Thomad
Authentic. Pretty authentic. My friend is Burmese and he finds the food pretty authentic.
Phoneline
Never again!. Worst food ever. Bad customer service and were not attentive to our order.
Fee Jegs
Cheap and cheerful. As long as you don't mind waiting in line to get in, the service is fast and the food is yum and affordable. The only deterrent for me is the mosh pit out the front and having to waiting around to get in.
Kitty
I walk past PappaRich multiple times per week and it's always packed, with a queue of people waiting out the front to get in. Based on this, I was keen to try it. Maybe I missed the point, or ordered the wrong things, but I really wasn't inspired – the food was average (except the roti, which was excellent) and actually quite expensive for what is effectively food court eating. I really wanted to like this place, but was disappointed.
Yap LeeWei
Terrific service and food not as described. I was craving for Malaysian food since Brisbane doesn't have Paparich. After a long wait, I was told that I have a seat for me but it's at outside ( due to the cold weather and they didn't have heater, most of the customers werr waiting for the table inside). Since I didn't want to wait for longer, I have decided to sit outside. I have ordered a chilli pan mee and toufu fa with brown sugar . The wait staff asked me to order by written the order in the paper, after tha pressed the "call" button and they will attend. From the beginning, I was so patient waiting for attendance but no one attended my table.Even I would like to ask questions and pressed the "call" button many times, still no one was answering the button but standing inside the restaurant doing nothing. I was pissed and I have to call them by myself. So what is the point of placing a call bell on the table if no one even want to bother about it? Another thing was the chilli pan mee, taste not as what it decribed, quite disappointed. The chilli pan mee comes with a so called blended chilli instead of dry chilli. In the menu it has written with add $1.50 for extra chilli as I expected they used dry chilli which decribed in the menu. So I asked the staff if the extra chilli is the dry chilli as shown in the picture, he said yes, so I added extra chilli after the meal arrived.Ended up it was the same type of blended chilli.I was so pissed because there was no point for me to order it if it's the same thing and paid for $1.50 for that. Asked for cancellation and they replied that they could not put it back or such excuses. I didn't mind to pay if it was my fault at the first place but it was not! Anyway, it was a really bad experience. Visited the branch in Melbourne,it was so authentic and great service. However, this branch in canberra needed a huge improvement.Especially staff training. Will never visit again!

Order, eat, pay, go. The reviewer who mentioned that diners here have to expect an up-market food court experience is right on the money. Food mainly authentic Malaysian judiging by the many Asian patrons they have here. I say mainly because some flourishes are definitely not Malaysian, but may cater more for the Australian palette. Very tasty hawker style food, almost as good as the street food you get in Malaysia/SIngapore. Prices in the $12-$15 range so standard Australian prices. Service is authentic street Asian too - very hurried, perfunctory and cursory. Polite but not attentive. Functional service more than anything else. Great if you have the occassional craving for rendang (which even my very very fussy mother, who was trained in nonya cuisine by Lee Kuan Yew's mother, approve of) . Just order, eat, pay and leave with little fuss.
Not so good if you have a big crowd to celebrate a special occassion or if you have fussy, fidgety children, all which require special, additional attention and catering to.
Ostrichfarmer
It was ok provided you think of it as a Malaysian food court. I was expecting a little better. Mainly, food looked nothing like the glossy picture in the menu and it felt quite cramped (not in a cozy way). All a bit rushed too.
LindaDee
Authentic and delicious food - no wonder this place was full everytime we walked past. Beef rendang and roti was so good!
CK
Good value and lots of enticements on the picture menu. Suitable for a cheap eat and families. Don't go if your looking for great attentive service. It's about order up and quick turnover!
Canberra Gourmet
Slow and cold. Perfect restaurant if you want slow service and cold food.
Philler123
Cheap and satisfying. Papa Rich is a great place to visit if you’re looking for something cheap or on the go. It’s not a 5 star experience but the food is really tasty and generous given the price and the staff a very polite and friendly. My partner and I ordered 4 dishes and it was far too much for the two of us. If you’re a family with kids I imagine this would be a great little place to go. A downside for some may be that they don’t serve alcohol or well recognised branded drinks but that didn’t bother us. Give it a go!
Sideshm
First time eating at PappaRich on my wife's recommendation. The food was authentic and extremely tasty. Service was prompt (perhaps a little too fast and delivery of meals not very well timed between me and my lunch partner). Besides this, I would definitely go back, a hidden treasure in Canberra Centre.

Poor services. My english is not well but really want to give a feedback,i been there many times since open, first really impressive about food and price also services was ok,then after a month food was less than normal,i used to ask more sauce, they never charge but after they were busy it been charged if i asked more sauce $1.50.and today, i went there with my BF i asked her to bring all the food included the dessert come out in the same time, she told me we are always do that, i said i been here many time ,it was always come out different time with a dessert.and she still argue to me wuth her strong reason that food always out in the same time, the ways she talk quite rude to me,she should say Yes!!! i will be fine if food not come out but why she keep talking and ignore what im saying, really bad services ever!!!!!!! I DO NOT RECCOMEND THIS RESTAURANT TO EVERYONE!!!!!!

No Bookings Allowed. Tried to arrange a work lunch for 8 people - not a massive amount of people, but not a walk in and grab a table number either. First Question; Do you all want to sit together? Umm, of course we do. "We don't take bookings. If you want to sit together you must all be here and then we will try to find a table for you - might take 30 minutes". Pretty bad attitude and response for a Friday lunch time service in my opinion. Don't think I'll ever bother trying again.

Changes in portion of food. Have been going to the restaurant since it first opened. Love the food and the whole casual atmosphere. As expected, the restaurant was extremely well received and almost always during the peak hours there was a waiting time to get in. Nonetheless, their portion of food and the standard was always maintained in the beginning. I went back to have my lunch last week and the portion of food has been literally halved. Ordered my usual chicken rice and realised the chicken given was less and also the amount of sauce they gave was almost non existent. I mean to charge an extra 1.50 for sometime that ought to be complimentary right from the start is outrageous but to not provide enough of it to begin with is worse. I am unhappy about this because marketing themselves as a value for money restaurant so when all of a sudden you change to charge premium prices is misleading.

Good so far. I've eaten here twice and have had the combination noodles both times - while that might be boring, I went back for seconds because it's a really, really good dish. The chicken satay I had the first time was good. The roti, maybe I'm not that familiar with Malaysian roti, I just found it a bit sweet at Papparich. But all good for the very cheap price!

Delicious food, drinks and desserts!. Been there twice, all the dishes I've tried there are really good, including the drinks. The ones I still remember standing out are roti and egg sago pudding (in the dessert section). It's a long wait for tables (esp for big group) during peak hours, so try to come early before the rush of people starts pouring in.

Food is alright, service is awful.. Been here three times now, twice as sit down, once for take-away. The food is good, but it's nothing special considering it's a Malaysian restaurant you are paying to eat at. I've also found the food to be quite inconsistent. The beef satay can be melt in your mouth one day and tough as leather the next. The spice makes the food, not the prep. Service is downright awful. Long waits in no apparent order, some old school ticket reservation system and a table bell service that gets overrun by any other table in the place when they try to order. The staff are very brief and too hurried. On each time visiting mistakes were made, despite the fact that you actually write your order down and the check it before processing it. There are a billion rules over payment, no bill splitting and forget getting dishes in any particular order you were hoping for...they'll come when they're ready, like it or not.

Not bad. There's still a long wait for a table, especially if you are going as a group. However, I'd go back again because it's good standard Malaysian food.

Really average food. Rushed service like eating in a food court. Curry accompanying roti's was small portions so no real balance of flavours. Wouldn't go again & wouldn't recommend you bother.

Yurrmy. The food is great for its price! ahh the bread and roti was so good, and the chicken were tender and soft. I like the service system too, just ring if you need them! its best to go super early because the place is alway packed

Don't expect too much and you won't be disappointed. This is pretty good fare for what it is essentially Malaysian fast food. Satisfies as a no-fuss, quick and easy meal. The ordering system is efficient and easy with order sheets and a call button, and the menu choice is extensive, particularly in relation to drinks. Just don't expect the food to blow your mind and you will walk away a happy chappy

$1.50 for extra sauce.. Food here is fine if you don't mind a lot of MSG and occasional rude customer service (customer service issue can be overlooked however, as they are quite busy). Last experience with this restaurant was when I asked for extra chilli sauce with my hainan chicken, and was told (rudely) that it was going to be an extra $1.50. Never in my life have I been charged extra for SAUCE at a restaurant, this is not a takeaway store! Also, $1.50 for a tiny amount of dipping sauce is far from a reasonable price.
Extremely disappointed.

Yummy. This place is all about asian food done authetically, sort of reminds me of sydney china town foodcourts. No wonder most of the customers are asian. For a franchise its surprisingly really good tasting food at great prices too. Its definetly giving the asian noodle house a run for its money. Service and vibe is lacking, but hey, no restaurant can manage the trifecta of , cheap, tasty, service/vibe.

Its a mad house of a restaurant. super buisy. Theres this door bell that keeps ringing. Doesnt help that every table has the button for it.

Overall a breath of fresh air to the canberra dining scene. No hipsters allowed thank god.

Food is not great.

Not family friendly even when the restaurant was only 50 percent occupied. Was advised when I called that restaurant doesn't take reservations =walk-in only. On arrival at 4.00pm Saturday afternoon noted restaurant was half empty, therefore no waiting. Manager was very unaccommodating of my family. Our family consisted of 2 men, 1 woman, 2 kids and 1 newborn in pram. The manager was rude and was determined that we should not be given a table larger than a square 4-seater. When I asked to be allocated to an available 6-seater, I was told that because we only had 5 people, we had to make do with a 4-seater. Pretty much a take it or leave it attitude, eventhough there was plenty of tables available. We left very disappointed and won't be back.

We were visiting Canberra and had dinner with our kids. We loved it! Great price and awesome food. Only had to wait 5 minutes and the staff were very friendly.

Good Malaysian Food but expect a long queue and poor service. This is your typical Asian restaurant when you see a long queue you expect good and value for money food. You are there for just for the food and you know you would get terrible service.

We have been there 3 times in 2 weeks and food the wonderful and authentic and value for money (especially for Canberra pricy food standard). You also get good Asian style drinks and desserts.

Tips to avoid queue, arrive early or late, make sure all your companions are there, or simply get takeaway and go to food court upstairs or across the road at Supa Barn and have your beautiful Malaysian food in spacious food court area.

Chicken rice and nasi lemak. The chicken rice and nasi lemak are pretty decent for canberra's standards. Prices are very reasonable as well. Their drinks are quite authentic as well. Try the iced coffee and iced tea.

Food is only average, although it is cheap so probably what you could expect for the price and queues are long - not sure what the fuss is about - I wouldn't be coming back

Bit of waiting time. They could improve a bit more. Food is great! Worth trying.

It's a pretty sad reflection of a city's food when Pappa Rich does some of the best Asian food in town. That is not to say that the food at Pappa Rich is bad—it's of course usually pretty tasty—but I would never go to a Papa Rich in somewhere like Melbourne because there are just many better and cheaper options there. However, for Canberra, this is excellent. I'd recommend the egg gravy fried noodles (not sure what they call it on the menu), the chicken with mee and curry sauce, the rotis and the excellent satay sticks.

The restaurant is actually a Malaysian chain and the interesting ordering system is apparently quite common over in Malaysia. You fill out a pad with the dish numbers from the extensive menu (don’t forget the ‘0’ in a number or they get very confused [eg. C4 instead of C04]). Then you press a little buzzer, your table number flashes up on a screen near the entrance, and they come grab your sheet within seconds. Ordering pad and table buzzer [I'm sorry to say I didn't take note of the prices because I thought the menu was available online. It is, but it doesn't include prices. The following pr

Pappa Rich, ground floor in the Canberra Centre under Dendy, is a good spot for a very quick meal before the movies. And for a sit down meal, it doesn’t get much quicker than this. Even with a short wait for a table (no bookings accepted) you can easily be in and out in under half an hour. Plenty of well known Malaysian dishes are on offer, well-priced and well sized...
Mouthless Mutters
PappaRich opened two months ago in the Canberra Centre, and since then I have tried in vain to get a table at different times of the day – last night I finally got in! PappaRich is a Malaysian chain restaurant with Australian locations including Canberra, Sydney and Melbourne – with a Brisbane restaurant under development. I heard someone refer to it as a “Malaysian MacDonalds” and I wouldn’t go that far, but there is something of a “Nandos” feel in that there is a set menu and the food is cooked fresh to order, quickly and simply. A friend (J) and I had tickets to a 7pm film, so I suggested we get to the centre early and attempt to get in to PappaRich. We arrived at 5:30pm and had no trouble getting a seat
because no one eats that early. Actually, within 15 minutes the place was packed – so I guess people do eat that early if they want to get in to PappaRich! Canberra’s one and only PappaRich is located on the inside the North Quarter end of the Canberra Centre, opposite Nandos, next

PappaRich is a Malaysia-cuisine based chain of restaurants. It posed a conundrum to me. Urbanspoon ratings for Melbourne and Sydney vary between 50-65%. Yet the recently opened Canberra one is rated 85% and has very frequent queues.

I ordered the dry curry egg noodle with steamed chicken ($12.90). Initially, the waitress had forgotten to provide me with curry sauce and this came out a minute later in the little sauce bowl. I was disappointed by that as the dish is described as being a curry egg noodle so I assumed (incorrectly) that the noodles would be mixed with and sitting in a curry sauce.
Lily Ouk Eat Food
Dinner at PappaRich. A couple of our Melbournian friends were missing home, so they had PappaRich 4 times in its first week. Now its our regular lunch eat out place. Good stuff.

PappaRich , a Malaysian restaurant chain, now has an outlet in Canberra. Yum. I've been there a couple of times now and enjoyed the food. The atmosphere is a little reminiscent of a hawker centre. Last week I treated a friend to lunch for her birthday ...

Another week and another new restaurant opens in Canberra (or #CBR as we should all now be referring to our city)! PappaRich is actually a big Malaysian chain; first opened in Malaysia in 2005, they now have over 70 outlets all over the world from South East Asia to Australia. I wouldn't generally bother blogging about chain restaurants of this magnitude but Malaysian food is my absolute favourite cuisine in the world and I think there is a serious gap in the market in Canberra when it come to decent Malaysian food. So with this in mind and with a serious craving for a decent Roti Canai, Nik and I went to checkout PapaRich on the first weekend they opened for business. Having been to Malaysia MANY times over the last 10 years of my life and having dined at many grotty street side mamak stalls with the most amazing food known to mankind, I have very high standards when it comes to Malaysian cuisine. Not that I was expecting PapaRich to compare to the authentic street side thing, but I

The menu is full of interesting drinks, and we order a couple of different ones to try. Ice blended bandung with grass jelly This creamy pink concoction is sweet, with the rose syrup adding a floral touch. Soya milk & black sesame ice cream This is my order, and with the generous scoop of black sesame ice-cream, seems like more of a dessert than a drink. Red bean drink Nasi lemak with curry chicken I love nasi lemak as it gives you a bit of everything - fragrant curry chicken, spicy sambal, coconut rice, fried anchovies and peanuts, hard boile
Tales Of A Confectionist
After hearing about complaints that I went to PappaRich without certain people, off we went together to play the ‘line ride’ to eat Malaysian food after their official opening (see my previous visit before they officially opened here).

The hype surrounding the opening of PappaRich in Canberra made me think that it would possibly be on par to Mamak in Sydney . Mamak is a favourite of A and I, so we were keen to try PappaRich and hoped that it would meet our expectations. Unfortunately, my lunch at PappaRich a few weeks ago left me unimpressed. PappaRich was established in 2005 with its first outlet in Kuala Lumpur. There are now 70 outlets in Malaysia and 7 outlets in Australia and their menu features a variety of Malaysian favourites, including Roti Canai, traditional Hainan bread with Kaya and butter, Satay, Nasi Lemak, Fried Kuey Teow, Curry Laksa, Asam Laksa, Chicken Rice, Prawn Mee and Mee Goreng. After hearing about the long queues for a table at PappaRich, we decided to try our luck for Saturday lunch. After only a short wait, we were seated and provided with a copy of their extensive menu. The tables are packed tightly within PappaRich and you will easily be able to hear the conversations of the tables next
