I cannot rave about their Gluten Free pizza bases enough! The food is fresh and vibrant- even the simple classic Caprese salad is a flavor sensation!

This traditional Pizzeria is definitely one of the Finest Italian I've had. The pizza melts in your mouth and so does their Calamari Fritti and by far the best I've ever tried. Staff are so friendly & Service is second to none! What a beautiful restaurant and friendly atmosphere. Loved the whole experience from the minuite we walked in. Definitely will be returning
A weekly superstar for us. Adam is the best and can pick a great wine to go with your meal.
Amazing food and outstanding service. Such a great atmosphere! I would recommend to all that enjoy great food and top service!
Always love Locale. Our waitress was fantastic and the food: uh-mazing!!!
Hands down one of the best pizzas i've had in Canberra. Great service to top it off. Thank you for making my birthday that much more enjoyable.
They have a great menu here with superb gluten free pizzas. The wait staff are great and add fun to the dining experience.
Favorite place to dine in Canberra always great food and friendly service. Thanks
Thank you for making my birthday evening so special. Your ability to service our needs was greatly appreciated. The children were happy and sitting outside in your heated area with warm blankets, delicious food and yummy wine was so much fun. Oh and the dessert was to die for. Thumbs up to the Locale team.
My Husband and I (this is huge to write as we only got married last Saturday) had lunch at Locale Pizzeria today it was incredible. Amazing service and absolutely delicious food! A must if you are in/foing through Canberra!
Great food, great wine! The desert was a winner.
Love getting lunch here. Great food and excellent service every time.
Really nice setting, good range of options for starters and specials, pizzas are fantastic and service is really good. Nice place for a Saturday lunch with good wines and cocktails too. Thoroughly enjoyed it and will definitely be back with friends!
Good pizzas, including a nice vegetarian option. Got kicked out after 90 minutes on a Wednesday evening because we didn't have a reservation - they must be doing something right to be this busy!
Absolutely delicious food, wine, and desserts. Must try their affogato. It was a stand out. Tasted like ferrero rocher chocolates. Pizzas are great. Pasta is good. Great wine menu. Small restaurant though so if you want to sit inside, make sure you book early.

Canberra is arranged in distinct suburbs, each serviced by their set of own restaurants and stores. For Deakin, which sits inside the Parliamentary triangle at the gateway to five prominent Canberra suburbs, it’s a local shopping centre on Hopetoun Circuit. This suburban strip mall boasts a pharmacy, a bottle shop, an IGA supermarket, a café and Locale Pizzeria. Locale looks like the kind of place that – if you were a local – you’d hit up whenever you felt like an easy, midweek dinner. The food is everyday Italian – simple, generously proportioned and enjoyable to eat. Where Locale nudges into something more impressive than a locals-only, suburban Italian, is by ensuring they don’t miss a beat…

A Saturday night in Canberra with a hungry 9-year-old and my ever patient wife, Locale did not disappoint (Thanks to previous reviewers). Great pizzas and plates of pasta. A true neighbourhood gem, reminiscent of the great local neighbourhood joints throughout Italy.
Great for the family. Easily as great for date night.
Not been here for a while. Forgotten how good the pizzas are. Very traditional Italian pizzas. Thin crust with varied and tasty toppings. Nice atmosphere. How good is this for a local shopping centre?
The family enjoyed the location and ambience. Staff were friendly and helpful. The kids loved their pizzas but mine was disappointing. The capricocia was light on cheese and toppings. The ham (supposedly Italian) tasted like packet woolies and cheap. The base was great though with wood fired taste. It's ok but not the best pizza in Canberra as it was sold to me.
Good menu and nice decor. Food was nice and fresh but lacked seasoning. It was also pretty overpriced for what it was. The gnocchi was drowning in sauce and for $28, you'd expect a better dish. Desserts were small but good options. Side dishes and starters were all dry and under seasoned (chips, polenta chips etc). Companions enjoyed their pizzas. Service was passable. Worth an eat but not going out of your way for.
Mid week casual business lunch. First time visit on a recommendation and not at all disappointed. If you appreciate value for money and very authentic Italian cuisine this is the place.
An absolutely fantastic array of very appetising antipasto brim full on a large plate, a mouth watering and oh so tender basket of calamari and two magnificent pizzas stopped five of us in our tracks.
Excellent food however staff a little distracted at times.
There's a great feel about this place. Warm and inviting. In terms of food, the folletto pizza is amazing - a thin and crispy base is layered with a fresh tomato sugo mozzarella, Italian sausage, porcini mushrooms, truffle oil and parsley. The zucchini flowers and salt and pepper calamari are also terrific. A must try Italian restaurant in Canberra!
HIGH COURT OF CONSUMPTION
BETTY COCKER CJ
SUMMARY JUDGMENT
1. First of all, let the COCKER just say that the Food is AMAZING. Wood fired pizzas. The Judge LOVES WOOD. HARD THICK WOOD. SO HOT.Â
2. Everything is in Italian, so you know it's above board. As the Judge has said many times in the past, her seventh husband was a long fat Italian sausage, so she knows her way around a RISTORANTE.
3. Let's talk about the SPACE. Judge Betty loves eavesdropping and this is the perfect place for it. On one of her nights here, she heard about this secret thing called GRINDR. What is that!?
4. The only problem would be the wine list, though. Did they source the La Vendetta Sangiovese from the local IGA!? It's a bit of an outrage, but everyone's doing it these days. PIGS.

A friend and I managed to get an outdoors table at Locale for a weeknight dinner – the waitress inside wasn’t particularly attentive and seemed a bit befuddled, but the waiter who looked after our table was friendly and professional. We started out with the hot prawns – a bowl full of prawns in a sauce with chilli (deseeded, so not particularly spicy) and tomatos, served with a delicious flatbread. There weren’t many prawns (about 7 in total), but they were perfectly cooked to tenderness, and anyone ordering this dish should lap up every drop of that sauce. Yum. We then shared a Prosciutto e Rucola pizza – buffalo mozzarella, prosciutto, rocket and parmesan. We both commented on how the simple toppings was the hallmark of authentic pizza, and with such thinly shaved prosciutto and scattered rocket and parmesan, it looked to tick all the boxes. Flavour-wise, this pizza was superb – the prosciutto added plenty of salty flavour, which was enhanced by the bite of both the rocket and the parmesan. The base was lovely and thin, and the mozzarella went beautifully stringy! One between two was just right for us and we left with happy tummies.
This is the best pizza I've had in Canberra. The place was absolutely packed on the Thursday night I went, which made it a little difficult to be served at first and if you've got personal space issues I'd suggest sitting outside! We were seated at a long bar along the front window next to people which was fine.Â
Ordered 2 pizzas and some red wine. Both pizzas were almost perfect - the margarita was up there with the best I've had (could have done with a little more basil) and the sauce...wow...so great! Full of flavour and not too sweet. So delicious! The mushroom, truffle and Italian sausage pizza was also really good but I wish there was just a classic truffled mushroom pizza on the menu. Wines were top quality and just gorgeous.Â
Service was friendly and relatively quick considering how busy it was. Looking forward to returning to try the rest of the menu (although not sure I'll be able to go past that awesome awesome pizza!)
Very excited to attend on second night opened. Arrived at 6.20 and they could only sit us at the bar but that was kind of fun seeing all the actions behind the bar and kitchen. Calamari entrée was delicate and soft. The pizza main - base was thin and toppings fresh - we watched as they freshly sliced our salami and you could taste the fresh tomato explosion in the sauce. Was a bit soggy in the middle but we put that down to teething issues and it didn't matter bc it tasted amazing. Bit more exy pizza than other places based on size but service was great drinks were wonderful - we walked out of there satisfied - entree, pizza and tops tom and fresh mozeralla side Salad and two drinks each for $40 a head. Pretty reasonable really. Can't wait for summer!
In the suburb of Deakin, a new Italian pizzeria has made huge waves in the community. Locale Pizzeria is a small sophisticated bar and pizzeria offering wood-fired pizzas, authentic Italian pastas, charcuterie boards and classic Italian desserts like tiramisu. The pizzeria takes up one small corner of the Deakin shops next door to the popular Double Shot cafe (and I found out via This is Canberra that the owners of Locale also own Double Shot). The black motorbike parked out the front signals an edgy hipster vibe. The dark timber framing around the large windows is reminiscent of the small bars in Italy where you can look out at the cobble-stoned town and people watch. It looks like the windows can be opened up fully in summer to let in the cool breeze which will be much needed with the wood-fired oven roaring at the back.
Really nice ingredients and nicely balanced. A little bit floury and the base was slightly undercooked. But you probably won't have an issue with that! 😂
I have it on good authority that the Riesling ain't great so avoid that.
I went here by chance and was really glad I did. You know you are in a great wood fired pizza place when they list the type of tomato that is used on the pizza base. The pizzas were really good, with a decent selection for any taste. I'm struggling to thing of a better wood fired pizza place in Canberra. But the really nice surprise was the number of Italian beers that they had. The desserts looked delicious, but I was to full to order one. I'll definitely be going back.
The place is a bit small, but has some good ambience. Staff were attentive. The pizzas were good and the ingredients are very fresh. However, could use a bit more toppings for the price you pay as it's very little. The eggplant entre taste funny and a bit of a letdown. The winner for me is the canoli which I would come back for. 4 stars because of it, 3 stars without the canoli.
One of the best Italian restaurants. Thank you for the incredible experience. One of the finest talented chef’s I have ever seen in action, the food was amazing. A must when in Canberra.
This place was a happy surprise. I knew nothing before walking in other than it was a pizzeria. The staff were super welcoming and friendly, the penne alla arabiata was delicious and the chocolate self saucing pudding was nom nom nom. Also the toilets were oddly cute with a chain and steampunk-esque cistern. I'll definitely come back here when I'm in the area.
Absolutely beautiful food. Loved it. The pizza bases were next level amazing. Lovely staff too.
