Review Lonsdale Street Roasters - Canberra

M T (Dryasadingo)
A main stay of Lonsdale Street serving great coffee. My flat white was super frothy! Scrambled eggs were light and fluffy, cooked to perfection and the side of bacon was generous and just crispy enough. Some outdoor seating plenty indoors. Staff were friendly and service was fast despite the crowd.

One word: YUM! My hubby and I dined at LSR for breakfast this morning and we really enjoyed ourselves. Our coffees were well made and the food was delicious. I had the Haloumi and Corn Fritters and the meal tasted as good as it looks. The sweet potato crisps were a beautiful addition and the flavours went together well. My hubby had eggs benedict which he enjoyed. Highly recommend.

We had 〜 Lonsdale Breakfast, Eggs Benedict with Pulled Pork, Brioche French Toast Simply delicious. Perfect poached eggs. No overbearing flavours. Generous portions. Thank you.

Great food and coffee with friendly staff. Our favorite brunch is baked eggs and smashed avo.

Really nice Cafe. The coffee here was the best! And the brunch was pretty good too! Would definitely go to Lonsdale street roasters again. Friendly staff and comfortable seating. Highly recommend visiting this spit

The guy taking my order told me it was a 20 min wait on coffees. Fair enough it's a public holiday. I told him I would go home and come back in 20. Came back in 15 And coffees are sitting on the window separated and going cold. They also tasted weak and bitter. I get that you were trying to slow down your orders or turn people away because you were busy but some honesty would have gone a long way because I was trying to be an understanding customer on a busy public holiday.

Fantastic, friendly and fast service. Helpful staff and delicious food with a great vibe. Kids loved the art work.Chili jam … divine. Even got a great tip on where to take the kids next. We’ll be back.

Wonderful place and a Canberra icon. Great service with wholesome food, prompt and table service. Music was probably slightly too loud and hard surfaces amplify background sounds so the acoustics could be better, it would be difficult to hold a comfortable conversation when busy (hard surfaces and poor acoustics seems to be a general cafe trend) but overall a great local Canberra icon.

Hands down the best coffee in Braddon! Try have just spruced up their menu, so make sure you dine in to taste this delicious meal!
The atmosphere upstairs is so comfortable; it is my favourite study location!
Kennnny
The coffee is not burnt! Hoorah! It actually tastes good. Well balanced flavour.

This little place on Lonsdale Street has an inviting atmosphere when you walk in. It feels intimate with the service counter stretched all the way down the left wall with a staircase that extends to the heavens on the right. At first it seems like only a few pockets of seats and tables to sit at (I particularly like the communal table at the front) but there are stacks more upstairs.

Come inside and try the coffee out. I haven’t tried the food yet but I can assure you that I will in the near future.
Shannon Le Roux
Quality used to be perfect but I feel as people leave they arnt training new staff to their full potential which leaves you with bad service and a coffee that suposably had 4 shots in it that tasted like milk
Michèle Bode
One of the Braddon greats has fallen. Got the breakfast fritters and just absorb this picture - tasted like defrosted Indian samosa with a balsamic glaze. Sound good? Didn’t think so. Save your money
Dominic Svensson
Great coffee for Canberra. Still a little weak but hot with a rich and interesting flavour, so very unlike almost all Canberra coffee. Interesting foods with good veg options and sandwiches going beyond the norm. Very distracted service though.
Yue Wang
Ordered zucchini fritters and Spanish breakfast. Fritters are good and well seasoned with crispy skin , but a little bit oily. Go well with avo and cherry tomatoes though. Sausages are good!
Eatwithmyfoodsafari
Large cafe offering plentiful indoor and outdoor seating, as well as a takeaway window for convenient ordering of coffees to go. Service was fine and the coffee was much-needed for the return drive to Sydney.

Coffee, food, location, service, ambiance, value for money- ALL ✔️✔️✔️✔️✔️

One of my few favourite places in Canberra to get breakfast! I honestly have nothing to complain about. I will be back for sure :)
A disappointing brunch. Too busy to give any service and no warning of how long food would take. Ran out of eggs Benedict before 11am. One of our meals arrived about 15 minutes before the other (and the same happened to the table next to us). The bruschetta took an hour and the ice chocolate was missed completely - after a reminder, it was just milk, chocolate and ice (no ice cream or cream!). When I expressed disappointment in the food delay, the waiter rushed off and no one came to offer apology or explanation. What a mess!

A good breakfast spot, great coffee. Nice atmosphere, very busy. Service was satisfactory and quite quick considering the crowd. Liked the hollandaise, salmon was fresh but eggs were underdone. Nutella French toast was quite good. There's better places but I'd come back.

We were ignored by the staff when we first entered, leaving us standing around like dinguses. Once seated, however, everyone was quite pleasant. We had the corn fritters and eggs Benedict. Not the most interesting, but still delicious! I don't know what happened with my latte, though. It tasted like the foam was just scooped out and thrown on top. It was decent flavour-wise. Overall, it was OK. Not the worst, not the best.

Stopped by for a life saving early morning (6:45am) coffee on the way to the snow... heard a lot of hype about it and the fitout looked trendy and the baristas looked hip. The quality of the coffee and milk were very good, but coffee not strong enough. I'm a barista myself, and drink a double shot latte - and unfortunately the one I got from here was weak, just a single shot :/
I'll give it a one more go though next time I'm passing though.

In the up side - THE BEST CROISSANT IVE EVER HAD!
Update: coffee was excellent. Food was not amazing, but still ok!

Yep. Get here. Stopped for a coffee and doughnut. Yep. Delicious. Melbournites approve of this coffee. Breakfast looked pretty spot on too. Looks like a little Canberra gem

I love the coffee beans here -- I came in for breakfast mostly so I could pick up coffee on my trip back to Sydney. I ordered the eggs benedict with ham. It came with a wodge of steamed spinach, which is odd: that's eggs florentine. The ham was chunky and tough and appeared to have been scorched on a flattop. The eggs were overcooked. The muffin was soggy from the spinach. And it had chopped spring onion on top of the hollandaise; that's not something you can substitute for chives, it's a really different flavour. I have eaten here many times but always ordered the brekky roll and I'll stick to that in future.

They were pretty busy but managed to get our food and drinks out in no time. The food and coffee was great as a usual.
The chips with the steak sandwich was especially tasty.
Very popular coffee roasters on Lonsdale St. I wanted to try their breakfast, but did not get a chance to try anything on the menu. The coffee, though, is great. I tried their house blend in a latte, and absolutely loved it. The roasters and barista know and love what they are doing.
I will be back to try their breakfast.

This was the worst cafe experience I have ever had. Food took 1.5 hours to come out, they brought us the wrong orders and when the stuff actually came out it was completely cold and tasteless. Staff were rude about us asking why the food hadn't come out and only checked on the food after we asked 4 times over 30 minutes. Don't bother with this place, there are plenty of good options in Canberra and this place isn't worth the time or money
Peter Dee
Coffee is the highlight here. It is some of the best I have had having lived in Wellington and Melbourne, both coffee city's.

Food was also very good. Price is a little expensive when compared to Melbourne but that is to be expected in Canberra. The capital is not the cheapest place to visit.

I got the beetroot and sweet potato fritter with eggs. Was delicious.

Others comment about the service which I found fine but I was here at 10am on a Tuesday.

Would definitely visit again.

As a visitor to Canberra I was looking forward to my brunch, but was disappointed. (Don't always believe the hype!)

On arrival I was totally ignored by 4 staff members who clearly noticed me standing there.

I ordered scrambled eggs on gf toast with vegemite on the side. Eggs were a big pile of pale unseasoned eggs with a strong flavour of cream. I only got 1 slice of toast (!) which was small, thin and uninspiring - so many other superior gf breads out there. I got 1 tiny sachet of vegemite.

My drinks were better - latte and tea were fine, despite the dirty tea cup.

People who arrived after me were served before me so I had to ask where my order was in the queue.

Overall impression - careless service, cooking and presentation. They didn't care whether I enjoyed the experience.

Sorry Lonsdale St, I won't be back. I found much nicer cafés in Canberra.
YUM! Great staff, awesome breakfast selection and damn good coffee. Love the ambience of the place too, laid back and vintage. I ordered the Eggs Benedict, their hollandaise sauce is made from scratch (rare nowadays) and the flavour is delicious with a velvety texture. I shall return!
Jane Doe
Really disappointing that a place like this that has constant traffic moving through charges and eftpos fee and a Sunday surcharge (even on take away coffee). Coffee was average and the extremely long wait for the food does not make up for these extra charges! Do yourselves a favour and try one of the many other great cafes in Braddon!
Thefoodbotherer
Yummy corn fritters with bacon, avocado, sour cream and tomato. Super corny. Hubs got the scrambled eggs with bacon and spinach. Really great good coffee.
Bec Harrison
Overall was a nice eating experience but the highlight was definitely the coffee.

We ordered variations of the eggs Benedict with sides of smoked salmon and pork belly. The smoked salmon was way over smoked, over cooked and chalky. The pork belly was nicely seasoned but could have done with some more rendering to avoid the inevitable chewiness the layer of fat gets went it hasn't been taken far enough. The brown butter hollandaise was interesting and quite enjoyable - as a self appointed hollandaise aficionado I like my hollandaise well seasoned and quite zesty with lemon to add a freshness. The brown butter brought a different texture which I enjoyed but the hollandaise was over seasoned with pepper which really over powered the dish. The cornbread was nice but the dish really needed some fresh relief from the heaviness of the bread and the poached egg.

Would definitely return for a takeaway coffee but the food needs some improvement.
Firstly the coffee was great
However we had to wait a very long time and ask for it as they forgot to make it
The service was a bit average all round
The food was a bit hit and miss only 1 out of 4 of us enjoyed theirs - me - I loved it
So the points here are for the coffee
Parkee01
The lauded coffee was good, but the non-egg options for breakfast were a bit lacking! The environment is relaxed and friendly, if a bit stark.
Tony
Popped in this morning for a cappuccino. Very average coffee, I must say. There are much better options on the strip.

On the plus side, they have some pastries great-looking sweet pastries.

Today I quickly ducked into Braddon's fabled coffee gurus for a quick drop of coffee, I definitely wasn't disappointed - I wasn't blown away either.

I figure that Canberra's roasters are all getting closer together in their skills and that makes it especially hard to truly stand out, in saying that, it also makes it way better for us as caffeinholics to grab a good coffee!

A bit too much froth on my flat white, it was still far from a bad coffee!
Arne
Today I thought I'd give LSR's lunch menu a try. It was Easter Saturday, the place was busy, and my partner and I sat up in their serene second floor eating area. Such a good atmosphere up there. Really relaxing.

I ordered the beef short rib tacos and my girl got the beef royal burger. Both were top top quality. As good as anywhere you could hope to find. I really hope lots of people from all walks of life visit this cool little joint. I love it when you are served food that meets/exceeds your high expectations. Top work.

And at $16.50 or so for each plate, the pricing was really reasonable for the quality that was on offer.

As for the coffee, I have been going to this place for an espresso most days of the week - and am of the mind that their short blacks from those freshly roasted beans set a standard many cafes should aspire to. Super creamy, full bodied, full of flavour. I recommend getting one when the morning public servant rush has died down though.

I'm new to Canberra and stumbled upon this little gem. The coffee is incredible. I love the outside seating area. I found the staff rally friendly. Definitely one of my favourite spots so far.
The Doctor
Would it kill the guy to say hello instead of glaring at me until I realised he was waiting for me to order? Or to tell me how much my order came to, instead of just holding our his hand for my money? Dude just plonked my coffee in front of me without even looking at me or saying a word. Decent coffee but there is plenty of that around - avoid the cruddy service, guys. These folks give zero shits.

Definitely my favorite Sunday morning reading place. Lonsdale street boasts a relaxing, homey atmosphere where one can easily read a book or get some work done with a delicious cup of coffee. It's conveniently located so you can access the city-wide wifi. The second level is spacious with a great view and a few couches for a more casual dining or cafe experience. It's seen quite a bit of change in the last couple of years and I've only grown to love it more.

Went here for lunch. Waited a while for coffee. Waited even longer for food (lunch menu largely comprised of salads and burgers) honestly it wasn't worth the wait. I would have been better off going to Grilld. The only saving grace is they have pretty good coffee.
Eliana Negri
Had a piccolo and some avo on toast. My partner ordered a mocha and the salmon dish. Food was alright but nothing special. The coffee blew us away though. Delicious! Will definitely be back for more coffee in the future.

Canberra has some pretty good coffee and I want to tell you about Lonsdale Street Roasters. Not only do they have some pretty good coffee, they have some pretty good food. . Located on Lonsdale Street (funny that!) in the suburb of Braddon, the smell of coffee leads you up the front stairs into a large piece of real estate consisting of a ground and upper level. The walls are adorned with huge, colourful murals which add an amazing splash of colour to the already bright premises. The area is popular as a hip hang out, a place to unwind after a spot of shopping or perhaps for that post bike ride coffee fix.
Sepp
Hmmmmm - that is how my coffee was delivered to the table this morning (at least it didn't take 40 mins like my wife's cappucino). The accompanying hard-boiled Eggs Benedict were living proof that Canberra's dining scene has really improved in the last 10 years!
Jules
Usually go there for a quick bite in the afternoon before closing time but held off writing a review till I tried breakfast there. Food and coffee is good, nice selection at the counter (both savoury and sweet) and while the current breakfast menu selection is small, what they do they do very well indeed. The place occupies a two story shophouse along the road so if you sit upstairs you get a nice view of where Civic and Braddon meet. An all round nice breakfast or tea time experience for anyone who goes there.

Went for breakfast, middle of Braddon, so expectations are high. Was with one friend and we ordered at the same time. His food and coffee arrived a good 5 minutes before mine did so I enjoyed watching him eat. I was then informed my food was delayed and they'd bring my Kevin bacon sandwich soon. I however had not ordered a Kevin bacon. So after another delay my correct food was brought. The coffee was no where to be seen. Questioned by the waitress if I'd even ordered it makes one wonder what my 21$ bought, clearly not professionalism. Overall food was good standard breakfast food. Experience poor.

Really disappointed with our visit to Lonsdale Street Roasters - staff were inattentive and food didn't taste fresh (had the Pulled Pork roll which was extremely dry). I'm sure their coffee's good but for food do yourself a favour and walk 25 metres down the road to Elk and Pea.
Tales Of Rose
Consistently good coffee, friendly staff and some great food! An easy go-to and a great one to reccomend. All my visitors have loved it here :)
Saffiegoo
Oh Lonnys, your coffee is pretty good, which makes your skimpy servings all the more depressing. I ask for a large flat white and I get an inch of foam and an inch of air from the top of the cup. Why am I bothering to purchase a large serving if I get a medium serving size at best?
☆☆
The coffee is great however the service of Lonsdale Roasters 07 is going downhill of late. Please do something about this! There are plenty of other coffee places around that I can make my regular coffee haunt instead.
TheHungryRanga
LSR has been pumping out reasonable espresso in Lonsdale street for a few years now, and while sometimes it can be hit and miss, generally the coffee is pretty consistent and the food is good.
Love the Kevin Bacon roll with an Espresso for $15. Great value
Authenticity
I asked for soldiers & eggs when I saw 'any eggs on toast'. No? Then don't put 'any'. Disappointment. Egg benny served on big cold plate. Obviously the fat solidified within seconds. The corn is dried as, is that from yesterday leftovers?
He
What a lame place. Dirty spoons. Shithouse service. $9 for coffee and Croissant. Trying too hard to be cool. Overall irony of the place is its pretending to be hipster but actually is a over expensive business with dirty tables and cutlery.
Jamiewhalley
Not great!. It's been an hour and we're still waiting for coffee! We've seen someone get a bowl of hot water but that's it.

Can't rate the coffee because it's still yet to come after an hour.

My friend Jeremy has started crying and he's really butch normally
Bruncher
Disappointing. I have previously enjoyed coffees at LSR but my last visit was a real let down. I ordered avocado on toast and the toast came out stone cold and rock hard, with a tiny, browning amount of avocado. Not great value for $15, and the coffee was unfortunately rather average. One great waitress, the other really lacking customer service skills :/ Really want to like it but quite disappointed with poor quality.

Every venue has a bad day but my experience has been messed up orders a meal that was close to dead cold and when a wrong meal went back it took more than forty minutes for the correct one to turn up minus the side of advocado. Oh and it was cold. I like to eat out and have had some bad experiences but this place was a disaster
Ian Forlan
Worst muffin experience ever!. Went in there early today to grab a coffee and a couple of muffins......The coffee was nice and strong, but I guess that is what you'd expect when you ask for a double shot in a small cup - the muffins however were unbelievably salty and inedible. To give you an indication of how salty these things were - I am the one in my family who adds salt to everything! Im forever being told my food is too salty......but even I couldn't handle it!
Stay away from the savoury muffins unless you eat coarse rock salt as if it were tic-tacs...
Epicurious
Great coffee, poor value food,. I've previously' liked' this place..the coffee remains great BUT the food has seriously declined in value & variety.. especially given great places open & opening nearby.
Yesterday was the last time I'll eat there. $16.00 smoked chicken salad, served in plastic takeaway container ('cause after 3pm) just a bit bigger than the coffee cup saucer!! See PHOTO. Spoke to staff that $16.00 for 1 cup of salad (+ 50c for Sunday) was not reasonable but just shrugged shoulders. Friend had $14.00 burger no chips, no salad & also relatively small size. Go to BentSpoke or Autolyse or Elk +, Farmers Daughter or ......
Also music SO loud had difficulty chatting; I know it pumps up staff but defeats purpose of meeting friend/s to chat.

Need better bread!. Excellent coffee, but food not so great. Eggs Benedict bread was advertised as rye, but was a hard wholemeal bun. Just go for the coffee!!!

Although the atmosphere and premesis is great, very disappointing food. I was visiting Canberra for 2 days. I went for breakfast here because although the recent reviews here on Urbanspoon were not good, I thought the place looked impressive. It had a really great, open atmosphere and lots of light inside and great outside seating. I wish I had listened to the reviews! The poached eggs and toast were disappointing. The salmon was the type out of a tin (not a slice of salmon), which really lowered my expectations before I even had a bite. The coffee was good, but overall, a disappointing experience. The staff were cheerful and freindly, so, no complaints there. However, I won't be going back if I'm ever visiting Canberra again.
Sarahg
The coffee was okay but the food was disappointing. We were told that poached eggs were not available as they had run out as they pre-make them, we had to have fried instead. When the order was mixed up the waiter blamed the girl who took the order, csll her f***ing hopeless. Totally unnecessary and inappropriate.
Brett
Okay coffee, horrible service!. OK, so the coffee is good but definitely not worth having to queue for 10 minutes on a pretty quiet morning while the staff stand behind the counter and bitch about being at work. Food is average at best but the poor service is a killer. Several people walked out this morning as nobody appeared to be serving. After getting to the front of the queue and raising the wait time with the staff member, she was unapologetic and rude so I decided to walk out too...
Ben_jess
Great coffee - alas, the food..... Stick to the coffee.

The blueberry foam on top of my yoghurt tasted like dish liquid and and creamed spinach looked like it had already been eating at least once. :(
Alice Mackie
Food was bland, unexciting and overpriced!. Despite an excellent cup of coffee I have consistently received appalling food by lonsdale street roasters. The first time I dined I ordered the procuitto panini that was overpriced, over salted and overly expensive costing me $17 for a cup of coffee and their equivalent of a ham and cheese toastie! I always give cafes a second chance so the second time i ordered the quinoa and avocado toast. This proved to be just as bland and unexciting. Dining with friends on the third occasion was definitely strike number 3. The american style cheese burger and chips was positively awful! After one bite of the overcooked pattie i had to double check and make sure i wasn't eating the sole of somebody's shoe. The chips were just as terrible as a friend bit into one oil squirted onto her face. Will continue to get my t/a cup of coffee with lonsdale but will NOT be dining-in again.
Fiona Martin
Uninspired food in ungenerous portions, dirty cutlery provided, no basics in the rest rooms and staff to hip to provide quality service. Coffee was not bad.
Dew1025
No order to wait for the coffee (bad service). There is no consistency to wait for the coffee.

I had to wait for the coffee until the big group (5-6 people), who ordered their coffee after me, took their coffee.
When I asked the reason, they simply said whether I need the refund or not without replying for my question.
I replied I don't want to get the refund, she just did their work without reply for my question or apology.

I had to wait for more time even after the big group disappeared.
When I went back home, my leg was burn from the sun, because I had to wait for a long time sitting on the bench under the sun.

VERY unpleasant experience.

-----15 Oct, 2014-----

No order to wait for the coffee (service is not good). Very underwhelming. Had heard wonderful things about this place so finally decided to try it, well wished we went else where. Terrible service and lots of attitude from staff. A surcharge for eftpos! The sandwich was delicious but didn't actually match the description of anything on the menu and the corn fritters were just awful. Very wet and unpleasant to eat. Will not be going back.
Cantovan
Sub par service!. I ordered two coffees to dine in.....the girl at the register had a bit of an attitude. We waited 20 minutes for no coffee, then when we asked a waitress about our order, she said it somehow got lost! I wonder if the snarky girl at the register decided to lose our order on purpose?! I'm over it now, but the coffee and service at Lonsdale Street Roasters should not be immune to criticism. Bad service....coffee was okay.....
Ellaokeefe08
Great coffeehe. The cafe's a little bit loud and stuffy for me, but the coffee's great with good values for money and they serve an amazing all-day breakfast, good for the family
Dion Factor
I really don't get the hype. Had eggs florentine and it was terribly salty. Quinoa, tomato and avocado on toast was wonderfully ordinary. No herbs or spices. Agh how I miss Melbourne. They did replace my meal which was nice of the guy, but he did mention that they did get that feedback about the saltiness a lot.
ChoppedLiver
How many hipsters does it take to make a latte?. Have bean thinking about boycotting this overrated establishment for some time, but due to convenience I keep coming back. Last Sunday was the last straw. I just wanted to pick up a couple of takeaway coffees, it was not at all busy and waited 20 minutes while the hipster staff spat out more attitude than coffees. Of course there was no apology or recognition of the wait, as the ‘too cool for school’ staffed planned their Sunday session. The breakfasts are lousy and overpriced, if you’re charging $17 for eggs benedict how about learning to poach an egg? Hopefully with more competition from Ona and Penny University, LSR will be forced to lift its game, don’t hold your breath.
Kvs34
Tea and two toast. Excellent coffee, the staff are more pleasant than they used to be but please note that an $18 breakfast with two eggs requires two slices of toast. Don't make me ask.
Melissa
Embarrassing staff and lukewarm half-filled coffee. Living so close, this was a quick decision to get coffee before driving to Sydney. I was first in line, the girl who took my order looked annoyed that I was there at all. The barista made a few I'm house coffees as well as placing my take away cup under a filter. It stayed there for the next 10mins while the staff complained about their shifts and rosters. I was kept looking at them to let them know I was right there. Then a girl with a black apron came out to place more cakes in the window and as she was bent down the girl who took my order started HUMPING her. They were all laughing and eventually worked their way around to my coffee which was given to me warm and only filled half way.
I am all for having fun at work, especially in hospitality where it gets busy and can drain your energy. But, the staff here were inappropriate and put me off my morning. I really wish I went somewhere else and will not be back again.
Ariel
"The Roasters" coffee does not live up to its hype. It seems the baristas have be told to avoid heating the milk above 50 degrees at best. And while its decor and "organic" vibe is actually super comforting, I can't recall having ever seen a genuine smile on anyone working at the place.
Epicureans
Pretty good coffee, stock standard 'hipster' decore but not overly wanky. All in all not bad
Rinchent
Great if you're 26 and ride a fixie... not so great if you love the taste of coffee. Love the atmos. Pretty good service. Great for that... but served the worst coffee I have tasted in years - threw it down the sink. I have had an okay coffee there, don't get me wrong, but reputation or no, I won't bother going back - there are plenty of places I know i'll get a fantastic shot every time. this is not one of them.
Sigmapie
Lukewarm. Every coffee I have ever ordered has been lukewarm - even after I have politely and specifically requested hot milk.

Was prepared to give them the benefit of the doubt a few times but I give up.

I won't be throwing my money away here again.
Brighty
Typical hipster joint. Visited early sat morning and was hoping for spmething other than the usual industrial-chic-grunge decor with inappropriate music that is always too loud more suited to a nightclub. Or so overcrowded that you can't talk privately whilst being asked to decipher overpriced dishes with exotic names. C'mon guys someone do somthing different like just serve good simple breakfasts in a nice quiet atmosphere! Oh and try and have tables big enough to at least fit more than one plate on...sigh.
Anaphase
Best toasted sandwiches. It really says something when they can have two Lonsdale Street Roasters on the same street. Fantastic toasted sandwiches and excellent coffee. The service is good, considering how flat-out busy they are. Super excited they've opened a coffee place southside.
Tali Ryan-Atwood
Disappointed. My partner and I visited the Lonsdale Street Roasters on our trip to Canberra after recommendations from friends, however after our experience we were left very disappointed.
We went for breakfast and ordered eggs, only to be told we couldn't order anything with eggs since they didn't have any. You'd think they could be more organised to ensure they had staples like eggs in supply!
We ordered two coffees (a latte and a flat white) and both left a bad taste - the beans were burnt and the coffee gritty. I ordered the sourdough toast which came out cold with a slab of cold butter on the side that was impossible to spread (cold butter on cold toast???) and vegemite. My partner ordered the chorizo panini with pesto and boconcini but the chorizo was so overpowering he couldn't taste any of the other flavours and didn't enjoy it at all.
The staff were running around like they didn't know what they were doing, walking up to each table and asking if the order belonged to them, hence it being cold by the time we finally got it.
Overall very disappointing, the cafe itself is nice and has good vibes but bad service, bad food, and bad coffee. Lots of room for improvement.
Jjaass
Awesome. On holidays stumbled across this place. The coffee is the best, and thats coming from someone from Melbourne.
love this place. 9/10
Alistair
Was very unimpressed with the response from management in regards to staff failing to have drinks and food arrive at the same time. There was not enough Cutlery available at the table. When staff spilt my drink, they did not replace my drink.

Bunch of muppets, I ride past here everyday and will no longer want a coffee from here.
Anon
Okay coffee. I honestly wanted to like this place because of the good reviews (and it is down the road for me). However each time I've had a lonsdale street roasters coffee it's either been burnt, or too milky.
Mark From Melbourne
Nice spot. Good music, good coffee, excellent variation on a Cuban sandwich. Good service.
Elliott Bledsoe
Canberra's first hipster cafe. It was the first hipster place on the Canberra block. But backs up all the hipster attitude with a great coffee.
Foodiesseiur
First of it's kind. These guys have been killing it for years and they aren't going to stop any time soon. Strong support from canberra foodies and cafe-hipsters alike.
Thtguy
No deal. I only want to comment on the coffee the place itself is cool, great vibe but the coffee is not acceptable dry, under extracted and roasted so dark theres nothing left flavour wise a pity..
Camford13
Good coffee. Nice coffee here - enough said.

Will try food one day

Paninis!!!!!!. The BEST paninis ever! I prefer the old shop to the new one... But I would recommend either as I enjoy the coffee and the all round feel of the place :)

Great coffee!! I love the ghetto interior and punk music played just at the right level. Trendy friendly staff make it an all round funky, great-vibed hub for young and old. Limited menu, I didn't eat, mainly because I was too hungover but the toasties looked and smelt awesome! Get here!

Slippery. Very good coffee, reasonable food (if a very limited selection), pleasant setting inside and out - but way too noisy inside. Turn the music down please.

Out-of-this-world coffee. Iced Coffees and coffee in general here is absolutely top-notch. I've not had a better iced coffee anywhere in Canberra - it's served with a flavoured syrup of your choice, a twill of orange and a little jug of milk to add yourself.

The sandwiches are so-so, not huge nor filling, but very reasonably priced, so not bad at all. It's difficult to get seating so don't come during peak periods.

Fantastic Beans for Sale. I read about this place on another website and was keen to check it out as I just moved to Canberra from Melbourne. I have started grinding my own beans for added freshness when making coffee at home and I wanted to try some new ones, preferably single origin beans. The staff here were friendly and efficient and happy to recommend their latest beans - 100% Arabica from PNG. They are delicious! I also ordered a take away coffee and the service was fast and the coffee was great. Will be a regular from now on. The vibe in the place was on the trendy side, which I think there is a shortage of in Canberra.

Pretty good but always busy. I've been a few times now, and the coffee is excellent but not always made well. When it *is* made properly it is excellent, however. The food varies depending on what you get - I love the Baby Elvis and the egg/bacon/other things panini, but wasn't impressed with the muesli (I have noticed this menu item has been changed up since I had it, so maybe it is better now).

The place does get packed, especially on weekends, so if you like your breakfast with some space and on your own, this might not be best for you. But if you're with some friends and don't mind jostling for room, then it's worth the cash and noise.

As a Melbourne coffee snob I can say that roasters make INCREDIBLE coffee. Best strong treacly espresso with amazing character. I always buy their beans (which they roast themselves) to brew at home in our stovetop espresso maker..... bliss!

Three visits, three bad coffees.

Big coffee cups for weak milky coffee.

Great coffee.. They produce a solid cup of coffee. In no particular rush but its good nonetheless. The food well - its not for me but others seem to enjoy the sandwiches. Paninis just dont really cut it for me.

Went there for brunch on new years eve and it was busy as usual. Lovely food and great service. Ordered the pulled pork panini which was yummy and very moist, the pickled jalapeño also added a nice kick to it. The other panini that we ordered was the prosciutto with bocconcini - it was nice but just a tad salty but that was expected. The hazelnut ice coffee was lovely and refreshing - No cream and ice cream, just milk ;)

I'd heard so much hype about this place that I wanted to see for myself - the coffee is pretty good, I can say that. It's all terribly hipster but that isn't necessarily a bad thing. I like the souvenir spoons they use, it fits in with the whole inner-city, funky vintage vibe that Braddon is going for these days. I didn't have food as it was late arvo but the menu and specials all looked pretty nice. My only (mild) criticism was the lack of snacky options - all they has was giant muffins and Danishes. But it's not a big deal at all. i also thought the service was great considering how busy they were. I liked it and I'll be back.

Quick lunch turned out to be a protracted affair on account of the challenges presented by a lack of parking. If not for the greater patience & keen senses exhibited by my colleague who was driving, I would have been inclined to give up prematurely. 20Min later, four laps of the block, we found one. Coffee fantastic, as the name suggests, panini with grilled pumpkin, rocket and basil pesto was simple but delicious. My associate enjoyed a "yummy" chorizo cheese and relish ensemble. nice decor, vibrant atmosphere. Thumbs up.

Mediocre. The breakfast panini was big enough for two people to share, and it was yummy.

The service was pretty bad. Ordered a coffee and panini. My coffee came out and the spoons they use are like the tourist collection spoons so I looked at that first. I was about to take a sip of my coffee when the waitress came out and took it away saying it was the wrong one. Erm...ok. She brought another coffee out several minutes later. The coffee was burnt. Urgh. It then took about 15 minutes from getting the coffee to getting the food so my burnt coffee was almost (note, almost) done by the time the food came out. I am there, eating this massive breakfast panini and the waiter comes over to take my almost finished coffee away. I politely decline and he leaves. His colleague came no less than two minutes later and does not even asks - just takes to which I then have to tell her abruptly that I was not done.

Seriously, the place is packed full of young uni students who probably do not know any better. However, those with common sense should avoid. There are better places for coffee and service.

The coffee was good. Portobello mushroom truffle was awesome. Highly recommended
