Review Typica - Canberra

Michael McRoberts
Popped in yesterday morning bright and early for a coffee, it was really good! Seating and general atmosphere is all lovely. Staff were helpful and friendly. Seating nice (just note some tables are not on flat ground). Would certainly considering making this one my local if I worked in Manuka!!!

We heard about Typica as "the go-to place for coffee". Being huge fans of Ona roasters, we were keen to explore the different options they have at Typica and have breakfast along with that. Coffee was a delight. They do take coffee very seriously, and we were able to have both single origin from Guatemala (they put 4 shots in a large long black!) as well as milk-based award-winning Raspberry Candy. Both were amazing. The food was good but nowhere as impressive as coffee. Perhaps our expectations were too high inspired other breakfast places we tried in Canberra. I felt the menu and meals lacked a twist (to match the coffees), and we're relatively standard. However, all ingredients were fresh, and the quality was good. The interiors are lovely and have got ample sitting area, and the service was ok - it was a hectic Saturday morning, and it says it all. All in all, if I could split the rating, I'd give 5 out of 5 for the coffee and 4 out of 5 for the food and service.

One of the best bacon and egg rolls I’ve ever had! Love the freshness addition of avocado to it without the extra cost. Coffee by ONA is also great and delicious, I just wished they changed their coffee cup / mug sizes since they are way too small. I like my coffee strong, so a double shot in the large size cup is too weak and double shot in a small cup is pretty much a small long black (can’t really fit any milk in). Staff are super friendly and is located in a great spot to sit outside basking in the sun. Highly recommended.

Great coffee. I also get my fresh beans ground here for pour overs and they do a perfect job. Lovely place in the mornings outside with the warmth of the sun. Good people.

I, my partner and our friend had a great time!! The portions are very generous and the food/drinks are really good. We’ll be back soon.

This has been my favourite cafe in Canberra for years. The fritters used to be an amazing dish - today I had it and it was so, so bland. I dream of the old side salad with rocket or pea tendrils, dressed deliciously with jalapenos and red onion... today I was served sad looking lettuce leaves with no dressing at all (why lettuce, on a breakfast?) and a thin herb mayo that had absolutely no flavour to add to the dish. I asked for assistance from the kitchen and was sent out some jalapenos, and the comment that sometimes the batches are just less spicy. Are the chefs not tasting their products? As Jasper mentioned in their review, the inability to create a tasty gluten free dish for my friend was a huge letdown for us all. I too don't understand how they can't provide spinach and herbs for a gf Benedict dish. Why is flour going anywhere near that? I paid $40 for my dish and two small coffees, which just isn't justifiable with the quality waning.

Lovely cafe with great service. They have high quality coffee with a selection of beans on the menu. The food was wonderful too - the cherry porridge was a highlight and perfect for a cold winter morning. Outdoor seating and takeaway coffee (and a smaller takeaway menu) are available.
