Yummy real thai food, better try
Thai milk tea and parang curry recommended. You can really feed yourself with a relatively economic price here. Four people within 90 dollars.
Fresh authentic Thai food. I have a few favourites, but am always happily surprised when the staff make a recommendation. I admit I am hooked on their quality tasty dishes at a very very reasonable price.
Rice Tapas is up a rather steep flight of stairs in Garema Place. The food is Thai and it provides take away lunches, with a loyalty card giving extra value. They also have lunch specials and a full a la carte menu which contains dishes from Vegetable Tempura to Bangkok Duck Curry. An on-line take-away service is provided.
Roasted duck salad is good, curry is just ok.
Hidden Gem. Very pleasant experience here. Tucked away upstairs and nothing flash to look at, but excellent food and friendly service. We were only here on holiday, but if we lived in Canberra we'd definitely be back. Both food and drinks reasonably priced too.
Great food and friendly staff. Staff were very friendly and food was delicious and quite reasonably priced as well ($55 for two mains, an entrée and two drinks). Would definitely recommend it and will definitely be going back.
Good lunch speacials at Rice Tapas bar and restaurant. I've enjoyed the $8 take-away boxes at this place, as well as the $10 sit-down curries. Have also tried their large Tom Yun Goong, which, whilst far from being the best I've had was still tasty and worth buying if you enjoy Thai food.
Nothing exciting, just good cheap lunch food.
Nice Thai food. This restaurant is upstairs in civic and can easily be missed. All you can really see are the stairs leading up. There weren't that many people on a Saturday for lunch. I found the service really friendly and welcoming. The two Thai mains were a decent size and tasted great. The banana roti dessert was light and fluffy and hit the spot without the guilt. I'd like to go back and try the tapas next time.
After being in Canberra for 3 weeks, I have pretty much made a list of restaurants I would like to try near Civic and “Rice Tapas Bar and Restaurant” is one of them. The place is located upstairs on Garema Place with not much advertising, there was only a signage near the staircase. The customers here seem like regulars, it was slightly empty for a Wednesday night, a booking was probably not necessary. Looking down onto Garema Place Even though the name of the place is “Rice Tapas Bar and Restaurant”, there were no Spanish influenced items on the menu (at least none when we glanced through it). The place actually does Thai cuisine, the menu selections were huge with all the curries possible. Rita and I took awhile browsing through the menu. We ended up with “Stir fried chicken in Rice’s sauce with cashew nut, vegetable, onion and shallot” and “Bangkok Duck Curry- Roasted duck fillet in red curry paste, coconut milk, lychee and pineapple”. Stir fried chicken in Rice’s sauce with cashew
This place might be hard to find for first-timers, it’s upstairs near Impact Comics and apart from the small sign above the staircase and an A-frame in Garema Place there’s not much advertising. Eat-in lunch specials are only $10 and the is an $8 per box selection of curries for take-away enthusiasts. I’ve tried a couple of curries and it is consistently good value and service is pleasant.
