Review Queen's Terrace Cafe - Canberra

Dean Pengilly
Beautiful food, great coffee and wonderful views. All within Australia's Parliament House. Take a look around and soak up the history. Read the Constirution of Australia and see Austalia's copy of the Magna Carta that helped shape our political system and the evolution of our Human Rights and freedoms. Sense the atmosphere of purpose and decision within this magnificent architectural monument to democracy; past, present and future.

Lovely cafe within the Parliament House. An excellent terrace area to enjoy a autumn cappa ☕️ with superior service👍

One of the best pie and sausage roll I have ever had. And these three mini desert were cherry on the top.

Queen's Terrace Cafe is lovely and I went there today for the first time (in a very long time). The food was great prices and I got a Long Black Coffee and the Open Bagel. I was very happy and it was fresh and well put together. I saw other people too buy incredible items that I want to try next time. Great spot and highly recommended for when one visits Parliament house!

A great selection of food, with both healthy fruit options and cake. There were even some macarons available too, and the coffee was decent. Friendly staff, and great for a quick break when touring Parliament House.

Really enjoyed high tea with friends of mine. Nice customer service and cosy environment to hang out with friends

I stopped by to have a hot chocolate for morning tea whilst visiting Parliament House. I loved that it came with marshmallows. I didn't have to ask or get a no answer it just same. I didn't have any of the cakes but they looked good. The staff were friendly.

After having high tea at both Parliament House Canberra and Sydney this month, I would recommend Sydney. Canberra need to have some hot savoury food and scones and jam and cream. Not all cakes.

Came here for an early lunch at around 11.30. It wasn't busy yet but it quickly became busy with tourist and workers alike.
Basic cafe, food was probably priced but quality was good. I had the shepherds pie, great filling, creamy mash and lovely mushy peas at $15. I personally hate mushy peas as they are often overcooked but these were great and still had that "fresh pea" taste, also with a hint of mint. I bought an overpriced juice at $4, but I knew what I set myself up for.

Went to this cafe after a tour or government house.
Wow. Sorry but not in a good way wow.
Just ordered two coffees. Service at the front was caotic.
The gentleman who was taking my order was not paying attention at all, and got me to repeat an order of a cappuccino and a flat white coffee THREE times. Honestly if I had to repeat it one more time to him because he was getting distracted by other things I was definitely going to blow my top.
He also was yelling at his staff in front of everyone.
He informed me it was going to be a 10-15minute wait on the coffees, which was fine, we had the time and had already finished our tour so we were in not to much hurry.
I could see there were about 5 people waiting for takeaway coffees and some tables waiting for coffees also, so 15mins wait was probably a good estimate on wait times with three people making coffees.
35mins for two coffees, that is a huge wait time!
Also I saw a gentleman waiting on his takeaway coffee in a keep cup looking angry at the wait time also. He received his just after ours, and he ordered before me!

Coffee Unfortunately was not great, milk was thin, coffee shot burnt. For the only cafe in government house I expected it to be on top of their game, but what a disappointment.

A relaxing decent cafe, clean and spacious. Healthy food, attentive and friendly staff. Must try the dessert, delicious and under priced LOL, I ordered the freshly made chocolate mousse which is just $4.3!

Huge place with plenty of tables, we got here at 1:15pm on an rainy day for lunch. There were a lot to choose from! Got the Beef cheeseburger and it arrives promptly. The patty is medium rare and the burger came with Salad and fries. Definitely a very filling meal.

Definitely something for everyone.

It was pleasing to finf that despite the absence of any competition, the QTC does quite well as a large and high traffic flow cafe. The meals were generously sized, and the staff were polite and efficient. Decor is comfortable, but the range of alcohol options was surprisingly limited. Overall, it was nice to be able to visit Parliament without feeling the need to then go elsewhere for lunch.

Lots of seats, whether indoors, outdoors on the terrace, or there's also a more secluded indoor section with couches. Those inside seats by the windows get a nice view north. Counter service, self service water and cutlery. Originally thought about a bahn mi but upon seeing the items on display, decided they didn't look anywhere near authentic and went instead with a house made lasagne. Food was served within 15 minutes nice and hot. The actual lasagne was very dry (as in no sauce) - taste was ok though I would've preferred more sauce.

Somehow, you expect the cafe in Parliament House to be dire. With a captive audience, they've no reason to try. And anyone who works there can duck off to the members dining room (but the public can't)
Surprise, surprise! The food is pretty good, and so is the coffee. There's a bakery on-site, the prices are really reasonable and apparently it's the same kitchen that caters the members dining room, anything that's on in the Great Hall, and the PM also
I find it hard to object to my taxes subsidising QTC. And the staff here were all pretty cool, too!

Good for a light lunch when visiting Parliament House. Quick bite required and delivered. Salad, rolls or wraps an option. Polite efficient staff.

A fairly large cafe with modern decor set inside Parliament House. I ordered the lamb burger with sweet potato chips. The lamb was way too over cooked and dripping with oil which ruined the burger. The chips were delicious and the coffee was decent as well. The staff were friendly, helpful and courteous. Worth a meal if you're visiting Parliament House, but nothing really to make it stand it out.

Nice eatery above the entrance of Parliament House. Ordered the Oriecchette Pasta and a Hot Chocolate. I really enjoyed my meal. The veggies were all really well cooked - the pumpkin soft, asparagus and peas had a fresh crunch to them and the sage sauce worked well with the dish. Whilst it is a cafe, it has a cafeteria style vibe - you'll need to grab you're own cutlery and water. The staff were great, friendly and helpful and happily gave me a takeaway container for my leftover meal so I didn't waste any food. If you're at the Parliament House, I'd definitely recommend popping in for a bite!

20 minute wait for 2 teas and 2 milkshakes seems excessive. Forgot our food order total chaos, very disappointing totally and then threw it down on the table....never to return I swear

Picture Perfect. It was a busy day and the cafe was full but enough tables and we found our spot. The service was quick and their performance was of a high standard considered the lines of people. Our kids misbehaved and the staff were very supportive, helping with amazingly presented milkshakes and coffees to catch their attention. The chef's special was duck. It was cooked perfectly. We will come back with our friends on a weekend when P house is a little more empty too and enjoy this space again.

How embarrassing!!. I had guests visiting from Japan so took them to Parliament House. They were very impressed..until lunch that is. The menu included takeaway pies, schnitzel that looked (& tasted) a day old, kids fish and chips, vegetable soup that taste like it was out of a can and Cesar Salad. We ordered a serve of each and some drinks. They mixed up the food order twice and by the time it came to the drinks which they mixed up again, they seemed angry at me as if it was my fault for mixing up the order so bad!!! The service was so bad, the food doesn't even deserve comment - I have never been so embarrassed to be Australian!

Although a tad expensive, the Angus beef burger and handcut chunky chips were satisfactory. Look out for the Ninja Magpies. They hunt in a pack and have no qualms about joining you for lunch.

Ridiculously expensive. Good view though. Ordered a chicken burger and it came with no chicken....

Pariliamentary Meal. Quite a nicely layed out cafe in Pariliament House. There is a wide selection of pre made sandwiches and rolls as well as a variety of hot meals which change daily. The meals were tasty and were good value. A nice break from the screaming pollies in the Lower House.
