Review Origin Turkish Kitchen - Canberra

Sherry Mackay
We three Brisbanites headed here for dinner on a Saturday night. it was quiet, but then again, it WAS Election night. Service was friendly; meals came out promptly. I had chicken skewers - a very generous serving. Meat was a wee bit tougher than I like, though very tasty. Delicious flavours. And the rice was fabulous - well-cooked and well-flavoured. A few pieces of wonderfully tasty potato were also on the plate. Would have enjoyed more of that! Hubby had a massive spinach and cheese pide, which covered the whole plate. He happily ate it all, plus the salad on his plate. The friend had Chicken Kavurma, a chicken, mushroom and capsicum (with rice) dish. She said it was a great choice by the waitress, who helped her decide what to have. The drinks were Coke, Uludag (Turkish? fruit drink), and I had a sour cherry juice which was deliciously cherry-like. We shared a Coban salad which was fresh and well-dressed. We took home a doggy bag with salad and my second (huge) skewer as the portions were sooo generous. A great find on a cold Canberra night.

First of all, I would like to say that the following review is as per my personal experience. You may feel different and or best food of all. It depends on the taste and originality of food experienced by different person. To the owner: Burnt and squished. Please do not sell burnt pide to customers. I opened my Pide box when I got home and the Pide was burnt like a charcoal (pictures). Called the restaurant once I opened the chicken pide box and the guy on the front desk told us they wil make us a new one. I went there next day but he said chicken was not available and offered us spinach and cheese Pide. Anyway, it was NOT BURNT this time. The guy was so rude, and put my food on the desk and walked away. that he did not even accepted his mistake by being friendly or giving a good gesture. He looked very angry at me and was sighing. He also did not know what he was selling. I asked him what goes in your salami and if it was a chicken or a lamb salami, he said, I don't know it is all mixed up. I did not order it as I do not eat beef meet. He should have told us that it is made up of beef meat or any other meat so that it would be clear when we order. It is our right to know what goes in our food. Also, I do not like to order the chicken snack pack again there as chicken was dusted (picture), quantity of chips was low for the price charged, and it was below expectation. Every other place sells good kebabs but this place does not have ethics (as sold me burnt Pide even you knew about it) I suppose. I recommend to do some research by going and testing food of other places and see how they sell their products. To the customers: They cook chicken in oven and sell as a kebab (as per the guy on the front). I don't know about other foods as I wil not order from there again. This is my longest review yet as I have not found 1 star foods yet.

Excellent food every time we visit and very reasonable prices. The mixed grille is huge and cooked to perfection. Love the Turkish murals of numerous famous sites too. They do takeaway but I prefer eating in.

Great food. Mini Banquet for two is the best value in town, could feed 3-4 easily Scrumptious!

Enjoyed the banquet meal. So much food we couldn’t eat everything. The pide, bread and dips were good. The meat and prawns were amazing.

The best Turkish in Canberra. A wide variety of great dishes outside the traditional pide and kebab.

Wow! A hidden gem. I had never heard of this place but let me tell you, as I bit into the succulent, perfectly seasoned lamb, all I could say was, “What? How.”. They also had uludag gazoz which is a Turkish lemonade but about 82,865,154 times better than any lemonade you have tried. If this place did kebabs they would surely be the number one kebab in Canberra because Yarralumla kebabs were quite rude, but when we asked if they had kebabs they said “No Kebabs”. BEETROOT DIP

What a great lil find. We thoroughly enjoyed everything we ordered from the pide which was huge and enough for 2 ... to the lamb shish with rice, salad and potatoes..the lamb mince with salad n bread. The bread as starters with dips was absolutely delish, warm n freshly made! Highly recommend.

Four of us ate at the Origin Turkish Kitchen tonight. The whole evening was excellent! The food varied and tasty, the service friendly and helpful and the atmosphere good. I would highly recommend this for lunch or dinner, or take-away.

A must visit! Fresh, authentic & delicious Turkish cuisine. The best I’ve had in Canberra. Highly recommend the Lamb Shanks, Iskender Kebab & anything that comes with their delicious pilaf & salad!
