Review My's Restaurant - Canberra

Thien Vuong (fooderarri)
The combination pho here do come with a lot of meat which might be a reason for being more expensive than other pho restaurants. The soup and noodles were a ok without being fantastic. The rice paper rolls with duck tasted nice but are not as neatly rolled as I would have anticipated. Regards @fooderarri

Some of my friends spoke highly of this restaurant. But I was much less impressed with the Vietnamese dishes that I ordered. The chicken pho in the photo attached is an example. The restaurant recommended it as a fav, but chicken pho broth should not have been that dark, nor should it have tasted like beef pho broth. The Vietnamese coffee was also surpar, leaving a taste of instant coffee. Price tags were the highest among the Vietnamese restaurants we have been to. Service was unfortunately not on par.

Vietnamese restaurant. Has a Chinese style influence and more shared dishes as opposed to individual street style meals that most Vietnamese restaurants lean to these days.

Great Vietnamese restaurant! First time there, with a group of 13 fo a birthday dinner. Place was fully booked - so obviously others think it's great too.Food was delicious and quickly served out. Staff very attentive and helpful. Will definitely be coming back!!!!

Dinner at My's for two. Had the doft salted calamari (main) as shared, followed by their curry lamb and rice. One of the best calamari around ( I try it every where as a bench mark) and this lamb curry is delicious. I have dinned here for lunch and dinner before and have never been disappointed. Licensed or BYO with friendly quick service. A must to try for yourself.

Decided to give this place a try for something different. Not your traditional Vietnamese restaurant but still ok. Not much authentic meals on option but what ordered for tasteful and fresh. Staff are friendly and food didn’t take long to arrive after ordering.

Lovely staff that accommodated our table with some odd requests while keeping a smile and going the extra mile for us. Food was amazing too.

Disappointing Vietnamese Laksa! - Prawn Laksa was rather boring, tasteless, lacking any real kick or curry flavour containing rice vermicelli noodles only, whilst also missing the usual garnishes of bean sprouts, coriander and fried shallots that one should expect.

I have always wanted to visit My's as every time I drive by it is busy and I knew the food had to be good! We were not disappointed and in fact were very impressed. We had spring rolls followed by seafood laksa, honey prawns (omg these were exceptionally awesome) and fried rice. The spring rolls were packed with yummy goodness and although small were delicious. The seafood laksa was very good but I forgot to ask them to skip the tofu but it was easy to remove. Would have been better with fresh fish but it was delicious. The honey prawns were huge mouth-wateringly good and the best we have ever had! The fried rice was average and we'll probably have steamed rice next time. The range of wines was good and the staff were very friendly and efficient. The restaurant was lovely and warm on a cold night and we'll definitely be back soon!

The dinner crowd with our waitress - Chalida! Wonderful meal of: Chefs Special Curry Duck (delish & should go on the standard Specials board), Rock Salt Soft Shell Crab (wonderful flavours), Campfire Beef, Caramalised Pork & Vegetarian noodles. Complimented by a fresh house special Paw paw salad (a MUST try). I was last heard to say, '...but I'm still waiting for my curry duck!' I did get it but I wanted more!! Friendly & efficient service. A very enjoyable meal.

The BEST!!!

Very disappointed. I have been a good customer of My’s for years. However, my recent experience with Prawn Laksa was very disappointing. The soup was surprisingly tasteless and noodles were over cooked. It’s certainly not worth the price.

This is my regular for a cheeky takeaway. I love the Char Kway Tao for delicious noodles with pork, chicken, prawns and vegetables. A little spice to the sauce and the left overs are fought over the next day.

Very friendly staff and a welcoming atmosphere. The food, however was underwhelming. Menu descriptions did not accurately capture the dishes themselves and the staggering of dishes was awkward. Reasonably priced; feels as if there are many 'regulars' here. A medium pitched takeaway or quick eat in - come with the correct expectations to suit and you won't be hugely let down.

Did not know there is a such beautiful Vietnamese restaurant in Weston Creek. Highly recommend. Very clean, great food and nice ambiance. Service is good, too.

Food is great, service can be a bit short and abrupt but not to worry because the food makes up for that. The international beer selection is good, I enjoy trying different beers and the price is really reasonable. I recommend this restaurant if you wish to try authentic amazing flavours and good food!

Apart from the beef pho, the dishes didn’t seem traditionally Vietnamese, rather they were leaning more towards Chinese Malaysian. We decided to go with the first banquet option at $26 per person that came with spring rolls, soup, three mains with fried rice and steamed rice.

Best Canberra Vietnamese. Fresh, spicy, delicious. Great service, they are always attentive and often suggest dishes that you might like, that are not on the menu, so its always a new experience. I go here often. Definitely a great choice!

DELISH. As soon as I walked in the smells took me back to Vietnam. To be honest the restaurant itself doesn't look anything special and isn't it a beautiful or interesting area but that is the only criticism I have...if you want AMAZING authentic Vietnamese food, friendly staff and speedy service, this is the restaurant to go to! I myself don't care what the building looks Luke, but if that's important then yea see above haha

...three of us decided to take a long lunch and check out the pho at My’s Restaurant in Weston. I’d never tried pho before moving to Canberra, although now it is one of my favourites and I’m always keen to try it at Vietnamese restaurants. My’s was busy but not crowded, and we were shown to a table promptly. We all ordered the rare beef pho, which came out together with a shared plate of things to add (bean sprouts, lemon, basil and chilli). Whilst the wait was a bit longer, it was considerate of them to bring all of our meals out at once. The beef was indeed just rare,

Great food and friendly service. Was introduced to My's by a friend and have been back many times since.

The fried fish with ginger is a particular favourite but have enjoyed everything i have tried.

Nothing is too much trouble for the staff and it is very good value for money.

Disappointing. Mys once had quite a good reputation. But on our most recent visit it seems to have lost its way.
The chicken and corn soup, and the chicken and crab soup, seemed to have been heavily thickened with corn flour and so were rather gluggy. I think it is time to move on from these 2 and offer some of the lighter Vietnamese soups with their emphasis on clear flavours. And surely any restaurant who takes pride in their food has stopped using crab sticks as crab.
Of the 4 mains, the 3 meat/seafood dishes were very disappointing. The ingredients were poorly prepared. The meat and pork were irregular large slices which made them hard to handle and the quality of the beef was poor. No attempt was made at presentation, the food just being dumped on the plate from the wok. The flavours (of coriander, mint, basil, chilli, lemon grass) we generally expect from Vietnamese food weren’t there.
The menu needs refreshing to better reflect current expectations of Vietnamese food, care needs to be taken in selecting and preparing quality ingredients, and there needs to be some attempt at presentation.
On the positive side the staff are still friendly but My's needs to reinvent itself or lose out to the new high quality eateries popping up all over Canberra.
We won’t be returning to see if they lift their game as there are too many other good choices.

Really nice. It was the best Vietnamese I have ever tried.

Reliable and always good. We have always been pleased and enjoyed My's even before their move. We are fortunate never to have been turned away but now perhaps we will need to have an alternative! Good value and reliable food

Be smart and book ahead.. Everyone likes eating at My's, but unless you like standing in line watching other people eat, please book ahead. The salt-and-pepper squid is good, but not so good with a line of drooling people watching you eat it.

Mouth watering beef hot pot!. The Chef's Special Beef Hot Pot is the best beef hot pot I've ever had. It has really good quality cuts of beef (not the fatty gristly stuff) and is extremely tender. Tastes like it has been marinated for a long time. The gravy/broth/sauce is so full of flavour - AMAZING. Highly recommend the beef hot pot. Can't wait to go back and try more.
Sam
Unbelievably good caramelised pork... Thank you, you made my night

One of our favourites!!. We keep returning again and again to this restaurant as we are always so happy with the friendly service & absolutely delicious food. We try different things from the menu every time & are never disappointed! This place is always full because people have caught on how great this place is!!

Food was delicious. We went to this restaurant for Sunday lunch. The food is fresh, fast and very tasty, we will definitely be going back.

Everything was ON FIRE & DELICIOUS! Definitely would recommend for decent, reasonably priced Vietnamese!

Great food. It's better to book in advanced on Fri & Sat. Food is so Yummy. I would recommend new dish "Crispy Duck". :P

Great food. We had takeaway. The food is fresh, tasty and fast. The Thai basil chilli beef with lemongrass is absolutely delicious. Every time we get takeaway, the restaurant is always full. A great local restaurant for Friday night when you can't be bothered to cook.

I'll just come right out and say it: best pho in Canberra. Until I tried the one at My's I thought Pho Phu Quoc in Dickson was the best pho in Canberra. When assessing a good pho, I look out for three things: the noodles (they have to be fresh\and they have to have a bit of integrity and chew—soft mushy noodles is a no no); the beef (it should be super thin and actually rare/raw when the pho gets to the table); and most of all, the broth (it should have a depth of flavour and you should be able to taste the spices—cinnamon, star anise etc). The pho at My's ticks all those boxes but at $14.95 a bowl, it is kinda pricey for pho, perhaps even by Canberra standards. Still, that and the fact that Weston Creek isn't exactly close to where I live are definitely not enough for me to turn me off—evidenced by my going back for a second bowl only a few days after I had my first. I wouldn't necessarily recommend their other stuff though, the two other dishes we tried (their beef hotpot and caramel pork) weren't exactly spectacular. Posted by R at 21:03 Email This BlogThis!

I was craving Vietnamese food a few weeks ago on a warm night so we headed south-side to My’s Vietnamese , which I’ve been wanting to try for a while. For entrees, we ordered the rice paper rolls, which are always my go-to entree, and the fried wontons, which we saw on a neighbouring table and thought looked tasty. As I had hoped, the rice paper rolls were light and refreshing served with hoi-sin sauce.

I've heard a lot of good things about My's Vietnamese restaurant. Located at the Cooleman Court shops in Weston Creek. I was able to duck in for a weekday lunch to check it out with a work colleague. There were only a handful of diners during that weekday. We ordered the Chef's Special Beef Hot Pot (listed under My's House Specials), and the Crispy Skin Chicken to share. The beef hot pot is the BEST I have ever had. Ever. The beef was soo soft and tender, and they were good cuts of beef, not the tough gristly fatty stuff some other restaurants provide. It tasted like they had marinated the beef overnight. The gravy/sauce it was cooked in was amazing! So full of flavour. I'm giving the beef hot pot a Foodgasm 10/10. The chicken was nice and crispy. We pretty much got a whole chicken chopped up into pieces. I found that it got a bit bland after a while, especially compared to the striking flavours in the beef hot pot. Service was friendly and prompt. I recommend the Chef's Special Beef H

The pho broth at My’s has a strong savoury flavour to it that you can smell as soon as it hits the table. The broth is super dark, deep and full of meaty flavour as the meats have melted away into the broth.

The place was a full house as we glanced pass the glass window from a distance. We entered the scene and were greeted by very friendly staffs who didn’t hesitate to give us a larger table (no smaller tables left) even though there were only the two of us. To be honest, in Melbourne we would have been kicked out by then!

The decor is much nicer than most of your plain Vietnamese 'hole-in-the-wall' types that you see every now and again. The table settings were simple yet nice, with larger tables decorated with asian-style tablecloths. We were seated at a small table for two, which was not ideal as it was located right next to the busy waiting area/counter/bar. I suggest booking a table before arriving to avoid being seated in that area.
