Review Pho @ Dickson - Canberra

Lovely staff, amazing food with great portion sizes, and I would come here again for the iced milk coffee alone! The chicken noodle pho and stir fry egg noodles with beef were excellent and the prices were very reasonable. Highly recommend

This restaurant was delightful. The staff were kind and helpful and we had a wonderful meal. Do try the chicken noodle soup, subtle flavours and plenty to share. A great place. šŸ˜ŠšŸ˜ŠšŸ˜Š

Great food, lovely staff, good range, clean. Served by the most delightful lady with a beautiful smile. Even the jasmine tea was nice and free. I had crispy chicken and egg noodle soup. Very content

The crab spring rolls here are exclusive to this restaurant and are excellent. I would totally recommend this dish to anyone. The noodle soup was OK without being fantastic as I felt it was a bit diluted compared to many others I've had. Yours truly @fooderarri

Fresh, quick and delicious. We stopped in on the way from Thredbo to Sydney. Staff are so helpful and efficient, we got everything so quickly. I really love the decor, particularly the coin koi fish art on the wall. When the food came it was delicious and I inhaled it all, so unfortunately no photos. Something different was the rare beef salad, which we enjoyed. It opened before 5pm as well so it was perfect for my kids having an early dinner. Will be back again

Pho taiā€™ nam was served with thicker rice noodles than usual. Some like thick noodles in pho but we prefer the thinner ones so the rest of the ingredients can more easily blend in. The place feels like it could use some light renovations or upgrades, e.g. the menus could use new folders. Hoi sin sauce bottles could be replaced with containers with lids. Friendly service.

Fabulous food and fantastic service! These guys run a gorgeous family business. Theyā€™re friendly and accommodating and provided our group with exceptional service. Will definitely be back!

This is probably one of those, constantly busy places. It was packed when I got in. The smoke from the kitchen was spreading through the dining room.
I was excited to try their beef Pho! And it was good, however, I have had better. The initial taste was a bit salty and the meat was not thinly sliced. Instead, Pho is made with large slices that included too much fatty bits, at least for my liking.
It was ok, but I won't be back in a hurry.

To be honest, the food is above average for Vietnamese cuisine for Canberra anyway and I can appreciate the bit of effort they put in. I would know, being of Vietnamese descent.

However, after my partner had a few bites of her pho, she noticed a long hair in the bowl. Now, we all make mistakes and not everything at a restaurant or any workplace can run perfectly smooth every time, but when things go wrong like this, it is the opportune time to show what the restaurant can do for customer service.

The waiting staff dealt with the situation well and allowed us to order a different replacement meal. However, the head waiter came out letting us know that the manager has a policy that if we were to order a different meal, they would charge us, and that in order to be free it would have to be the same meal. The look of disbelief and utter dismay fell on our entire table upon hearing this news. My partner lost a bit of her appetite and did not want to have the same meal, and who's to say they won't just take the hair out and reserve the same bowl.

This really does show what type of restaurant they are running - a shameful, money-grubbing one with no self-respect for even the manager to come out, show her face and say sorry. As I said, these moments can be a time to shine for restaurants, so it is disappointing that our first visit here will also be our last. So keep your hairy pho and the few dollars you save and as a tip, have a few poor reviews on us.

My friend and I had a craving for pho, so on a Monday night after work we headed up to Dickson to indulge our craving. Pho @ Dickson is unassumingly located on Woolley Street ā€“ if I hadnā€™t know it was there, I might have missed it. The restaurant was quiet on a Monday night and we received excellent service. I ordered the ā€˜bells and allā€™ beef pho ($14.50), which included rare beef, beef balls, beef tripe and cooked beef brisket (so, basically, all the beef). The bowl was huge, and this was

A very light pho with deep dark broth colour. The broth is also light in spice flavour but elegant. Good meat-noodle portion. Good and fast service.

Not exceptional but good, reliable food. I'd put it into the same category as Timmy's in Manuka for food quality. That is you get Vietnamese food rather than Chinese-Malaysian.

Best food I've had in Dickson in a long time. The sexy calamari was fantastic, paired well with the garlic rice and yummy sizzling chicken. Highly recommended!

Had the pho, fried whole barramundi, clay pot rice with duck, and mixed vegetables. Everything was delicious and service was great - they kept topping up our water, explaining a bit about the food, and the owner/chef came out for a chat at the end.

Fresh & delicious food, delightful owners: my favourite restaurant in Canberra!. This is a wonderful little restaurant. We've eaten here more than a dozen times, and it has never disappointed.

The food is fresh and tasty, cooked with care and attention to detail. Our favourite dishes are the soups (not just the pho - which is always excellent - but also various other more spicy variants), but the other dishes (e.g. the stir-fry chicken & lemon grass, or the traditional Vietnamese "beef stew") are also excellent. All the dishes are fresh and flavoursome.

It's also such a friendly and warm place to eat. The restaurant is owned by husband & wife team (Tri and Fun, I think) who do all the cooking; the only other staff member (Anh) is also always friendly and helpful.

When you're hungry on a cold Canberra winter night, this is the place to fill the tummy and cheer you up!

Best Vietnamese in Canberra. Attentive service and fresh, delicious food ... And cheap! Highly recommended.

Pho@dickson is delicious! Was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the food, as the interior looks quite basic from outside. Sexy calamari and the Prawn coconut curry are two favs. Will keep returning!

Although they didn't have a vegan pho on the menu, the man serving us was quick to say that they could make one for us. It was absolutely delicious and they even put in special tofu balls that were homemade in! They tasted magical! The lemongrass tofu was also delicious as well as the homemade chilli sauce it came with. They told us that they try to make as much as they can homemade to make sure it is organic or without chemicals, which was great to hear! A recommendation for vegans!

Excellent Pho, great service. We've had the rare beef pho a couple of times now from Pho @ Dickson. On each occasion it has been a real joy. Some other Vietnamese restaurants in Canberra serve pho with a broth that tastes like little more than beef stock. By contrast, the broth at Pho @ Dickson is rich and delicious. The pho comes with most of the usual condiments, including fresh chili, but if you want a little more kick, ask for some chili oil.
The service is attentive and very friendly.
All up - highly recommended!

Last week we headed out to Dickson to try out a newly opened Vietnamese joint that specialises in pho. I absolutely love pho, I grew up on it. Hence, in Canberra Iā€™m always on the look out for the perfect pho. One that is done right with a deep, dark, meaty and delicious broth plus noodles that are done properly and served soft, of course there are other factors that people rate a good pho on, like amount of meat, portion size, amount of fresh Vietnamese herbs but for me itā€™s the soup and noodle, portion and price plays a factor but if you get the first two right, Iā€™m happy to pay. In Sydney, I probably wouldnā€™t be willing to pay a lot for a pho but thatā€™s because there are plenty of Vietnamese restaurants that can make a good pho. In Canberra, its been a little hit and miss. However, it looks like thatā€™s all about to change.
