We have eaten at A Bite to Eat a number of times, but Saturday night was the first time we had booked it for a private function. Could not recommend it highly enough! From the start Steven was easy to deal with and helpful. The food was delicious and there was plenty of it. The staff were friendly, courteous and efficient and everything went very smoothly. Will definitely book the venue for future events.

We just had brunch to try out the new owners and food. The food was amazing, all 3 of us enjoyed our meals. 2 had the zucchini stacks and one the smashed avo. Service was excellent. Foid was prompt. Coffee was great. Had the maple chai and loved it. So good as made with real chai tea not the powdered stuff. We ended up being there for 3 hrs, never bothered by staff. Was very pleasant and will go back to being on of our favourite places. Thanks. Can't wait to try the lunch menu all the food coming out looked yummy

I absolutely love the atmosphere and the querkiness of this Cafè. The staff are always friendly and helpful, plus the selection, flavours and the presentation of the meals are always top notch. Yesterday we arrived at midday for lunch in the sunny courtyard, then moved indoors for yummy big mugs of hot chocolate. We were there for 5 hours in total workout being rushed to move on or vacate our table. I highly recommend A Bite to Eat to anyone, even dog's are accommodated in the back courtyard

Had breakfast there a couple of weeks ago the “smashed avo” was amazing best breakfast I’ve had for awhile. Went again on Sunday - live music was great, meat board was as extremely generous and delish will definitely make this a regular venue to enjoy well done

Dear Gregarious Greg and Serious Steve. Thank you for giving us a “our” space. For fluffing the pillows on your first visit and encouraging us into our favourite corner spot, for the wine and whisky suggestions, for the chats, the warmth, the welcoming and for bringing us back every time with a smile. We are excited to come back for mulled wine and more far too big mouthfuls of blue cheese (my fault and not a reflection of your beautiful antipasto portion sizing!!) Your gal pals, Sparkly Steph and Jovial Jane “Aka the giggle girls in the corner asking for the story of how olive trees reproduce and giving you 45 minutes to report back”.

Holy shit, what a find! This place is amazing, the food was incredible. So delicious and I was very excited to see such good quality options and a focus on real, nourishing, yummy wholefoods. Great atmosphere, charming staff and I loved sitting in the garden, enjoying my coffee and brekkie with my mates and our dogs! A Bite is an absolute gem.

Loving the revamped vibe guys... Fresh new look, fresh new beers and fresh new menu... All winners with me... Pleased to have you in the neighbourhood... Everyone should get down to check it out... Can reccommend the cheesy -- in a good way -- macoroni balls with a cool pint of Bentspoke's GF ginger beer...

Great atmosphere, delicious food and great entertainment. Salad Buoy were such a cool band to listen to. Great music with a perfect volume where I could talk and listen to my friends. Lovely, friendly staff too. Would love to come again when Salad Buoy play and eat your delicious tapas food. Oh and the chips with aoli are THE BEST in Canberra!

As an eggs Benedict connoisseur, I have to say; best Benedict EVER. The charcoal bun just takes it to a whole different level of deliciousness and everything works so well. Big things to come for this awesome joint #FoodComa

Our family went in to A Bite to Eat today for a hot chocolate. We not only ordered our drinks but a huge plate of fat chips with aioli. Both were awesome. We were served by very friendly staff and thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience. I absolutely love the décor. Our cutlery, chairs, china, everything were mismatched and it worked perfectly (even the lights were all different). We'll definitely be back for more fat chips.

I've been coming here for years now, and only just thought to leave a review. I've worked in the hospitality industry as a manager for around a decade now, and have come to realise just how difficult it is for a business to receive positive feedback and good reviews. A customer who enters a premises and has a good experience isn't often motivated to leave a review of any kind, whereas a customer who has a bad experience will froth at the mouth with self-entitled rage and leave a one star review, comment publicly, and tell their friends, before they leave in their Volkswagen tiguan with spit-froth still dangling off their chin. Canberra is a difficult demographic for businesses in hospitality, due in part to Canberra's painfully bourgeois population and the associated expectations with this age and wage group. In my experience, the staff have always been lovely. The food is always top notch and the portion sizes are quite large, which I appreciate greatly. I've never had a bad coffee here. The menu has an excellent range of options which changes from season to season while maintaining a level of consistency so I can always find something that I like.

Very impressed with this cafe. There are plenty of seats both inside and outside. I liked that they had lounge style tables. I am a big fan of my campos coffee and this place does it right! I also had my usual banana bread - I liked that the butter provided was whipped. I will definitely be back again to try their menu.

We had lunch here on recommendation from a local. They didn't have too many vegetarian options but were happy to accommodate. We started with freshly squeezed orange juice with a ginger shot. The juice had quite a strong ginger flavour.

For mains I went for the tortilla with beans and omitted the scrambled eggs. Instead I had a side of mushrooms. My husband ordered the soup of the day which was pumpkin with a slice of sardough. He too ordered mushrooms on the side. The food did take a while to come which was over 20 mins but they were busy too.

Both the meals were good, I would have preferred a salsa with the tortilla to add a bit more flavour. Overall it was a pleasant meal that cost us 34$.

A Bite to Eat is one of my favourite Canberra cafes – the eclectic vibe here is so relaxed and the food is reliably good. I took Mum for a late lunch one Saturday afternoon. I ordered the ‘Morty’, which is part of the all day breakfast menu – clay-baked meatballs in a spicy, roasted tomato sauce with a poached egg and parmesan. Yum. Unfortunately we weren’t told there was a backlog in the kitchen, and after waiting for 45 minutes we were pretty frustrated and hungry. The food took another 10 minutes to come out after that, but, to be fair, both of our meals came together. Topped with crusty toast and a sprinkling of sprouts to lighten what would have otherwise been quite a heavy dish, the serving was actually

One of the hidden gems, local secrets Canberra has to offer. An interesting menu that provides options for vegetarians to meaty and hearty meals. Consistent quality of food and big servings that will ensure you are full and satisfied. Services can be improved as sometime you have to wait a bit longer than usual. Also quirky decorations. They don't serve the same looking cup set twice on your table.

A bite to eat is a great place to grab lunch and venture back in time about 40 or 50 years. On our visit we tried the Wanda, the Mint Condition and a side of chips for good measure. The salad in particular was fresh and delicious, and full of the good bits (ie not padded out with huge amounts of lettuce). Worth a visit.

Very nice food (not spectacular but above average), interesting menu and pleasant service. I thought the decor could use some work (it's just too shabby). Had the honey bunch and it was good (but a bit dry) but was covered in fruits which weren't on the menu (and I hate banana). Good serves and value for $$. Will come back to try some other breakfast items.

It's interesting that people have such different experiences of this quirky restaurant - revisited it today, and it was better than ever before. FIgaro, Figaro omelette - with brie and caramelised baby figs was....just beyond words. So I won't attempt any, other than to say it was better than the goat's cheese omelette at the European in Melbourne.

It has always offered an eclectic, casual and friendly atmosphere that’s very popular with locals. The lunch menu offers a range of differently sized and priced salad and bread-based meals. The larger meals can be shared and this is a good idea as they can be quite heavy with dressing… like the Cos and Effect for about $17.90 with Tumut smoked trout, baby cos, crisp beans, cherry tomatoes, dill dressing and boiled egg.

The last time I dined at A Bite to Eat at the Chifley shops was during my pre-blogging days. I remember ordering a home made jam doughnut that was served warm and straight out of the fryer. I must admit it has been a long time since I’ve been back and the cafe is much bigger now. An eclectic mix of retro furniture, prints, cushions gives this place a cool vibe while remaining cosy and comfortable. Inside there are two dining areas – a lounge area filled with couches and cushioned seats the wrap around the window, and a slightly elevated area in front of the main counter. There’s more seating in the courtyard out the back as well. As a sign inside indicates, I waited by the front to be shown to a seat. The waitress provided me with the menu and told me since there was only one reserved table, I could sit anywhere I wanted. I chose the corner with all the soft scattered cushions along it. Orders are taken and paid for at the counter. I started off with the China Jasmine tea ($4.50) which was brought out quickly with a strainer above my mug. Still thinking about that jam doughnut, I was naughty and ordered the Bobo ($15) consisting of cinnamon doughnuts, citrus curd, passion fruit and fresh banana salad with mint. I received two cinnamon doughnuts with this dish (no jam inside but I wasn’t expecting it). The citrus curd and passion fruit balanced out the sweetness of the doughnuts. The fresh bananas helped to provide an element of healthiness which made me feel a little better. This is more of a dessert than breakfast but who can say no to freshly made doughnuts? During another trip to the Woden Valley area, I made a beeline to A Bite to Eat to try another breakfast item that had caught my eye. The Chav Merguez ($17.50) – clay baked eggs with lamb merguez sausage topped with fetta and corn salsa and served with toast. When this was placed in front of me, I could smell curry spices and the yummy lamb sausage still cooking away in the hot clay dish. The two eggs were ove

This place is my local and I'm here most weekends for breakfast. I'm never disappointed with the food - always fresh, always tasty, the gluten free bread is among the best I've tried in Canberra, and it's good value. And they get the basic things, like scrambled or poached eggs, consistently right. The coffee is always very good. Some other reviewers have commented on service - I always find the staff friendly and helpful, and welcoming. As a solo diner a lot of the time (my breakfast out is my down time), I have often found myself ignored completely at other cafés. Sometimes the wait staff suffer from being too task focused (they come to your table to clear dishes, rather than to check if you want another coffee, for example) but that applies to almost every dining establishment I go to. Overall I love this place and will keep coming back and highly recommend it to anyone who wants a delicious meal in a warm, relaxing atmosphere.

My local haunt- cozy, great breakfasts, awesome vibes!. I love a bite to eat! I understand where some of the below commenters are coming from in that the service can be hit and miss, but they are mostly friendly once you get their attention. That seems bad perhaps, but the cozy atmosphere, cute mismatched furniture, interesting food, good drink selection and live music on sundays makes up for it! The pizzas on Wednesdays are super delicious, and the breakfasts are awesome!! I think a la carte menu on regular days is a bit overpriced, but for breaky, coffees and cakes (or the amazing fat chips with aioli), pizza or tapas (on sundays with the live music 5-7)- this place is the best! Love love, from a loyal local.

Excellent Brunch. This place does suburban dining expertly! Whilst for a Saturday brunch it was busy, the staff were attentive and the wait for the food was not long. The brunch menu is quite an interesting mix, it's nice to see alternatives to the usual run-of-the-mill egg dishes. The pearl barley fritters with poached eggs and artichoke salsa was an unusually delicious mix, as was the kedgeree, which came with a very generous helping of mackerel and ladles of thick curry sauce. The smoothies were also delicious (and huge!). Most definitely will be back.

Never had bad food here.. And a special mention for the chips. I have eaten with kids who regretted choosing the chocolate porridge, and thought, "Serves you right."

I'm unused to strong coffee and they used to make an iced coffee concoction here that made me feel like I should go to A&E.

The only criticism I have of this cafe is that the carpeted front section, which has heaps of little kids dining there with their mums on the benches and lounge, does attract flies.

Trading on past performance. I've been visiting this place for nearly 5 years now, for work and social lunches and once for a group breakfast. Back in the day, it was fresh, quirky, eclectic and you could expect to get interesting food, pleasant if not polished service and generally have a bit of an experience with your food.
Now, though, it seems that the unique quirkiness that was a positive hallmark is being used as an excuse for average food with a side of uncaring or inattentive service. I still go there, mainly out of nostalgia, but the interval between visits is increasing. It's still a quirky and interesting place in the suburbs, and there aren't enough of those!

A Bite to Eat is one of my favourite southside lunch spots. I’ve also heard it’s good for breakfast and dinner. Serves are generous and ideal for sharing dishes. The decor is relaxed and casual with an eclectic collection of chairs and crockery. It’s always full of people enjoying each other’s company, so it pays to book. Service is friendly and the menu offers interesting options. The Malabar – an Indian style pilaf with mixed veggies, coconut curry and beetroot raita $17.50 is visually beautiful and I’m told, also delicious. One serve can be easily shared by two people. Chiquita – mini slow smoked pork burrito serve with herbed tomato salsa had some very flavoursome pork and was one of my favourites. $13.50 It’s serve size was not mini at all, but possibly not quite enough for two. The Mario – beef meat ball open sammich with boccocini, torn basil, olive and tomato sauce $14.50, is also a good choice, well complimented by the olives. This was also especially good. Lots of room inside and out, seems to be very kid and dog friendly but is big enough that you could it away from them too. Food wasn't too long and was delicious. Coffee was decent but the staff didn't have any idea about the beans so it's not for coffee lovers. I asked for a dessert which I saw in the windows which I never received and was sold when I asked about it again.

As a meat eater that loves lots of flavour via yummy sauces, cheeses, seasoning while going light on the (healthy) vegetable and salad side, A Bite To Eat wasn't my cup of tea but I'm damn sure they're somebody else's. We ordered the chicken burger and stake sandwich (we were after some battered fish but only pickled salmon on the menu). In short A Bite To Eat is a vegetarians paradise and I'm sure perfectly suited to such tastes bit for the meat eater, expect to be out of your comfort zone. Juices were amazing, chips were fantastic, coffee was OK.

We visited this Cafe for a private function and it was superb. They served a wide, and plentiful, range of finger foods that were all?delicious. The function had an open bar tab and a number of waitresses and ancillary staff who were all really switched on and very pleasant. Probably the best of this type of function that we have attended.

It used to be better. There was this random, eclectic collection of furniture that made it feel a bit Boho and Melbourne alleyway-esque. It's all been replaced with standard cafe furniture and has lost its edge a little. However, service is friendly and the coffee is on point. Get the B&E roll, it's good!
