Review Simply Pho - Canberra

We love Simply Pho. Dining there whenever we can. Usually numerous times a week if we can make it!. Staff are so friendly, treating you like family, remembering your name and order and the food is fantastic. Highly recommended

My wife and I shared a meal at this Gungahlin restaurant tonight and we were very happy with our meal. We both ordered the Pho Xtreme, which features rare beef, tendon, and tripe. Served steaming hot, it's a terrific meal for a winter night like tonight. Flavourful and not too salty, which is the tendency for a lot of these types of soups, it had just the right amount of flavour. Served with bean sprouts and basil leaves for additional flavour and nutrition, it was quite the treat.

Best Pho, Vermicelli Salad and BBQ Chicken with Rice. Been visiting Simply Pho for many many years and it’s quality and flavor is always excellent. It’s consistently a family favorite. Their menu keeps it simple and fast. Atmosphere is calm and cozy. Staff are friendly!

One if the best vietnamese food I have ever tasted. Really generous serving and worth the value. Really do recommend this place.

Fast, simple and amazing. The people there are just so lovely and welcoming. Ordered the combination Pho and it was great. The Vietnamese coffee was also amazing. Definitely recommend checking it out.

Nice place to have pho or bun bo Hue in Gungahlin. Food is tasty but portions could be a little more generous. Friendly owner and staff. Car park under the Big W.

Great Pho!! This tasted just like we’d loved recently in Hanoi, probably because they make their own broth on site. Herbs and other elements were plentiful and fresh. Meats were tender and fresh. Service was friendly, quick and polite. Also had the spring rolls which were delicious. Prices very reasonable.

I don't often go out to Gungahlin but I love Pho and so was drawn to this restaurant like a moth to the name. I was a little disappointed to see that the place had all the charm and ambience of a Subway (one of which is located next door, for those interested). But we were there for the food, not the decor.

When we ordered our pho, the waitress advised that they were out of bean sprouts and had not been able to source any more and asked whether that be OK. What the pho? We said it would be OK, but we didn't really mean it. Come on, pho without bean sprouts, really?

We spent a minute pondering this apparent Gungahlin-wide bean sprout shortage and the possible existence of a billionaire bean sprout trader attempting market monopolisation. I then walked the 30 metres to the supermarket DIRECTLY ACROSS THE ROAD. To my absolute amazement, about 10 bags of bean sprouts had magically appeared in all their leguminous glory. I purchased one bag for all of $2.20, returned to Simply Pho and advised the waitress of this unexpected change in bean sprout market conditions. As you would expect, she was as surprised as I was. So surprised, in fact, that we didn't see her again.

The cook delivered the bowls of pho to our table together with two of (and I am not exaggerating here) the most wilted shoots of Thai basil that I have ever seen embarrass a bowl of pho. And I have eaten a lot of pho.

The Thai basil proved to be the proverbial canary in the culinary coalmine as a gastronomic tragedy unfolded before us. This pho, even after adding the Sriracha and hoisin sauces, the chilli, lemon juice and the basil, was easily the worst pho I can recall having. Ever. I could name at least half a dozen places I have had pho in the last few months and Simply Pho is simply the worst of them all.

The broth, the key component of a pho, had the flavour of dishwater. Clearly, they do not add enough bones and/or do not simmer the broth long enough. Nor do they add much of anything else to provide any interesting complexity to the flavour. In fairness, the place is called 'Simply Pho', not 'Complexly Pho'. And, in keeping with their name, the pho is weak and one dimensional.

After consuming perhaps a quarter of it, we just couldn't see the point in continuing. This is the first time, in the dozens of times I have had pho of all kinds - from great pho, to good pho, to fair pho, and even to poor pho - that I have not finished my pho. Because this was not even poor pho. It was unpleasant pho.

On the bright side, we had ordered the regular, not the large. But even that was as or more expensive as similar or larger, but definitely better, pho elsewhere. Speaking of elsewhere, much better pho is available at (surprisingly) Majura Park. But the best pho in the Canberra region is still Sai Gon Pho in (again, surprisingly) Queanbeyan. So, if you live in Gungahlin, the Majura Parkway is your gateway to a better and brighter pho future.

It's not too bad. I had the combo pho. Soup tasted alright but minus the pickled onions which I like. But that's just me. Canberra's pho has always been at best, average..

A good option for pho as their brand proudly states. The broth is clean. Noodle is soft and springy. Beef is cooked to good standard. Keep you warm this winter too.

Nice, clean flavours and simple menu. Friendly service. Good for a quick local Pho fix if you are not looking for an extensive menu offering.

My favourite. Simply Pho is my favourite place for Pho in Canberra (and I've been to many Vietnamese restaurants!). Their beef broth is outstanding. Friendly and helpful staff. Awesome place.

Lives up to the standard.. I've been having Pho, whether it be homemade, or straight out of one of many Vietnamese Restaurants on Barkly Street in Footscray VIC. From my experience today, and given the location and general demographic, the few points I will say:

- Slightly more expensive than VIC, and a slightly smaller serve by price comparison.
- Ingredients are your classic standard. The interesting thing is you can also mix and match ingredients by request.

I got the small combination variant. If you've been to any restaurants offering Pho, you shouldn't be disappointed but be prepared to pay a bit more. It is the ACT after all. There are not many places that offer this sort of food, and I have yet to try the 2-3 other odd places which are few and far between.

Omg I love pho and I love this place! With the most freshest delicious pho being delivered to you by Vietnam's own Fabio what's not to like?! Prices are very reasonable and atmosphere is very casual and clean, I highly recommend any pho lovers to check this place out - Fabi-pho will make your day!

Gave it try. Never again!. I have lived in Gungahlin for a few years and decided to give this place a go. The pho I had was luke warm, not hot, and my rare beef was not cooked which is usually done with a hot boiling broth. The pho broth was not clear and had no real flavour. I suppose the only people that would rave about this place are non-Asians as they do not know about good pho. I will never go here again. $12 for a tasteless noodle soup? What a rip off! I would be better off getting instant noodles from the Asian grocer.

Damn great! Eat it at least once a week and they never let me down. Happy chappy

Delicious, authentic food!. Love this restaurant! We don't often visit Canberra, but will certainly remember to head here again when we come back. The food is delicious and very authentic. Healthy too - didn't leave feeling bloated, but like I just had enough.
Very relaxed atmosphere, clean with friendly and efficient staff members.
Would highly recommend to anybody else looking for a delicious feed.

Simple, cheap and tasty. Have been here a few times now. Very casual dining, but definitely "cheap and cheerful". The staff are very friendly and remember their regulars.

The pho is quite good, I like that the meat is wafter-thin sliced. Not overly salty and a nice mix of spices.

The entrees (spring rolls, chicken wings etc) are also nice but seem a little overpriced for a basic cafe. Still good value overall.

A gem. We've been coming here regularly since it opened in the space formerly occupied by the wonderful and now lamented Mama Sitas.

The chap who opened it is still there but now gets some time off I hope. His mum or auntie is in the kitchen.

A simple menu centred around pho (of course) with all the accompaniments as one expects. Always fresh, always tasty, always quick. Broth is always clear, non-greasy and flavoursome.

Beef Extreme is my favourite

You can even grab a gelato on the way out.

Big portions and great taste, have been going here for years and have never had a bad meal. Simply pho is super tasty and loads of condiments and sauce on the table so you can flavour to taste.

This neat, clean little dining establishment proved to be more than I had expected. I have been meaning to try this eatery for a while now, particularly after tasting my first ever Beef Pho in 2010 in Cabramatta. Although this Pho didn't live up to the authentic Vietnamese expectations of my previous encounter, this particular bowl of goodness was still delicious, satisfying and clean on the palette. Both Chicken Pho's ordered on the day came with a complimentary (mountainous) serving of fresh beansprouts, red chilli, a few small wedges of lemon, as well as a few sprigs of fresh Vietnamese mint and what appeared to be fresh Thai Basil (I prefer lime instead of lemon, however one of my working colleagues cleverly pointed out that maybe it's not the season for limes). The chicken was poached perfectly; the noodles were of a high-quality; and the clear broth had that sensuous star anise flavour, common to the traditional Pho. Another big

So, the verdict? While it may not have the same thick collagen-rich broth as Gumshara, or the same chewy noodles as Ryo’s, Ramen Zundo will have me coming back for the pork – it absolutely has the best chashu, hands down!
