Stopped by for a seafood and beef soup and it was up to my expectations. Would recommend it as a starter or dessert durinf the cold Canberra winter. The main dishes here are also realy good such as the prawns, pork intestine, fried rice and pippies in XO sauce. Definitely would recommend. Yours truly @fooderarri
We've been going here for years, they remember us, even if it's been a while. Food is always excellent, good wine/beer selection. Parking can be a problem at Dickson, with limited parking and short time limits doing the day.
An icon and staple of Chinese cuisine in Canberra, we’ve been to Ruby’s for many decades. The inside decor hasn’t changed much over the years and is slightly more upscale than most Chinese restaurants here. The food was of decent quality and service pretty quick though the professionalism of some staff could be improved. I would recommended the seafood dishes as you can’t get this at many other restaurants. Overall a nice place to take family and friends for a more traditional/authentic Chinese meal.
Last minute booking on a Friday night of the long weekend.
The restaurant was full and they kept us a table for 3.
The menu is extensive and amazing.
So we ordered the mixed plate(3 pieces each) to start. Mains chilli beef, pork chop shanghai style and fried rice (cause who dosnt)
The mixed plate was very good spring roll, fried prawn gown gee, and a fried chicken dumpling.
All very good.
Mains came quickly after that the fried rice piled high even though it was for 2. The chilli beef look so good and the pork was covered in lots of thick plum like coloured sauce(as there is never enough sauce).it was hot and loads of it.
Service was great for 3 wait staff who were on.
We byo and corkage was $10.00 per bottle. Apparently that's the going rate in Canberra.
The food did not disappointment and I would go as far as to say one of the best chilli beef I have had( that is a huge statement for me)
The pork chop was extremely good but the chilli beef out shined it.
We ate drank our really good aged wine and were really full and happy by the time we paid the bill.
This restaurant is known for its seafood as it has vast tanks of different types. It's not a cheap place to eat fresh seafood.
But what we had was very good value and most of all fantastic food.
If in Canberra and want to visit their version of China town go to ruby's Chinese restaurant. It will be a superb night out.
Absolutely first class. We had a party of 5 including 3 kids 8/10/13 and had the honey chicken, Mongolian beef, curry chicken, ginger and shallot king prawns, roast duck and asian greens. Every single dish was the best I've eaten of its class. The service was unobtrusive yet welcoming and attentive. I cannot rate highly enough. Slightly unflattering photo as we had basically eaten everything before I could stop long enough to get my phone out. Well done guys we will be back.
Family friendly, good for large groups and the most important - authentic flavour and food!
We are from melbourne and wanted a special dinner before leaving. We received The best service and the most amazing food and please try the toffee apples and ice cream worth it.
Thank you to all at Ruby’s.
