Review Mee's Sushi - Canberra

Demoris Arashi
A new item on the dish. A Japanese Curry with a choice or Udon or Rice. And 2 choices of meat. Either Teriyaki Chicken or Roast beef. A nice mellow flavour with carrots and potatoes combined with the meat.

I didn't think you could get Chicken Jerky sushi. Not Mee's, not even close. No taste, overcooked chicken schnitzel, dry and tuna that tastes like it's straight from a can.

What happened to Mees Sushi Manuka? Ordered a miso soup. Waited 10 minutes and received the worst miso soup in a tiny cup with a lid that didn’t fit and it spilt all over me on the walk back to work. Overall the quality of all food ordered has dropped significantly since they re-opened. The guys in front of me asked for a cloth to clean an outside table. He was advised to take a napkin. The tables used to be cleared, sprayed and wiped regularly! You would think in a pandemic this would have increased. Such a shame. It used to be the best in Canberra.

I used to live this place but the sushi has gone down hill. I love the chicken and avocado but I feel like they don’t make it the same anymore. Disappointed.

Price went up and size reduced. You pay extra for card! Quality not what it was. New owners should take heed of the feedback.

Consistently great sushi that's been a staple in Manuka for years. A great quick stop for a tasty and easy lunch. They use a lot of plastic for takeaway though, it'd be nice to see less single use packaging.

This is Canberra's best sushi bar, without a doubt. It's been here for at least ten years, and in that time it's only grown in popularity rather than dwindled. The sushi and sashimi (and whatever else the proper words for these things are) is always fresh and always tasty. Mee's Sushi also does wicked bento, which is perfect for when you're feeling the need for someone thing more substantial. The service is very fast and efficient, although that doesn't stop the lines of loyal lunchtime customers wrapping out the door and around the sidewalk during the weekdays. Their prices are surprisingly low (~$3 for a large sushi roll) given the quality of their ingredients and the location. This is Canberra's favourite sushi bar for a very good reason. Try it and you'll see why.

This place is almost legendary at this point. Never had bad sushi here, prices are cheap and the sushi is of very high quality. This place however isn't "authentic" Japanese sushi but please don't let this put you off I highly recommend for a cheap and tasty eat in Manuka.

Excellent sushi, best in Canberra, and the service team are professional, polite and unusually good looking

First visit today. Went for the Udon which was fantastic - best I've had outside Japan. Lots of flavours and a great price. Will be back!

Easily the best sushi I've ever had! Staff are friendly and efficient!

Indeed Japanese style sushi instead of Korean. Their sushi rice is with vinegar not sesame oil! Soooo good! Love the slightly sour taste. Mr Yu loves their fried crab feet!

Was craving sushi after work so bad that I took a bus here from Barton. The place looks a little run down but the sushi handrolls were pretty good and came in thick servings with lots of fillings. I did find the place to be kind of expensive for just over the counter sushi but it's hard to find a cheap sushi place that's open after work in Canberra!

Mee’s sushi is my favourite spot for Japanese sushi hand roll in Canberra. Except hand rolls, they do serve simple rice bowls, noodle soup, bento boxes etc. but I would stick with hand rolls.

All sushi hand rolls are $3.8, the eel one is slightly more expensive($4.5). Each hand roll is big, you can tell they put lots of filling inside instead of giving you rice. All the ingredients they use are really fresh, and has nice flavours. My personal favourites are salmon and avocado, spicy tofu, eel, and chicken schnitzel.

To be honest, the price of the hand rolls are not cheap (Melbourne standard). But Mee’ sushi would be a great place to grab a simple and delicious and quick lunch/dinner with good quality of sushi hand rolls.

Not sure how this place receives 3.9 stars. Came on a Friday afternoon, the sushi rice is hard/stale. Avocado in rolls have turned brown. Worst of all, we found a piece of what looks like pubic hair in one of our rolls. Gross!!

Fabulous. Best sushi rolls we ate on our visit to Canberra. A decent amount of fillings, not overloaded with rice. Well priced at $3.90 too.

This is a great spot if you are looking for a healthy, quick and cheap mid week dinner. We decided to try the bi bim bap - and it was fresh and delicious - a full balanced meal in a bowl!

I work across the road from this place and end up getting their gigantic sushi rolls for lunch 4 out of 5 days. It's quick and easy and the filling to rice ratio is around 3:1, definitely why they are the best around, you don't just fill up with rice. 2 rolls will cost you just over $7 which is just the right amount for me. I see other people getting 3 or 4 if they're really hungry. To avoid the line up I tend to go there between 11:30-12 or after 2pm.

Mees might as well be a tourist attraction in Canberra and I suppose it's a bit of an institution for those who have grown up there. I have to say that the sushi rolls from Mees are officially the best sushi rolls I have ever eaten and I have eaten sushi around the world! Big rolls in comparison to other sushi establishments, so definitely worth the extra dollar or so. My recommendations: Chicken Schnitzel or Tuna and Avocado

When I was too scared to make my own, my favourite place to get my sushi fix was, and still is, Mee's Sushi in Manuka. I easily eat here once a week, sometimes more. Their signature dish is a chicken schnitzel sushi, which doesn't seem very authentic but is unbelievably delicious. If you are ever in the area check it out. If you can't get there I have some comforting news for you: I know how you can make your own.

Mee's sushi is always fantastic, especially the rolls and the miso soup. It is reasonably priced, and the staff are helpful as well. Mee's sushi is such a great sushi place in Canberra!

Mee's is a bit of a lunchtime institution in Canberra. We love their sushi, particularly the tuna, spicy tofu and fried chicken rolls. If you go right on lunch, be prepared to wait a little. They keep making it fresh for most of the day, so you don't have to worry about missing out unless you're arriving really late.

Excellent food and great prices. Made fresh to order if they don't have it ready.
Best sushi I've had in Canberra. Could even be a match for the awesome Sushi Train from the Gold Coast.

Mee's is probably one of the busiest sushi places I've ever seen. Each weekday lunchtime, the queue extends well past the next few shops. It's quite incredible considering it is sushi (albeit the only sushi in the area probably). They also serve some meals such as the prawn tempura udon. The prawn tempura is good, but unfortunately served in the soup where the crisp exterior is quickly lost. The noodles themselves and the dashi soup are nice and warming. It's very good for lunch on a cold day.

Mixed bag. Needed a quick bite to eat with my partner and decided to have Japanese. Small store and not really designed for dine in eating. I made the mistake of ordering the beef bulgogi. It turned out to be basically a big lump of beef that had been previously frozen? Slight flavouring to go with the rice. That was it.......Cost around 10 dollars which isnt expensive but i expected better.

Partner had a much experience with her Bento lunch box....that seemed to be much more up to standard.

I guess the moral of the story is......dont order anything that anyone else isnt eating!

The best sushi I have ever had, I pretty much have sushi once a week from all over Canberra and nothing even comes close to how fantastic this particular sushi is!
Ammy13
Addictive. I am so addicted to this sushi - the chicken schnitzel and avocado and the salmon/avocado sushi is so, so good. I eat this for lunch as often as I can.

The Best. Hands down the best sushi in Canberra... wish they would bring back the ramen though!

YUM. Mee's Sushi is the most affordable authentic Japanese in Canberra. It is also fast and efficient while maintaining its high standard. If you are not there at the peak rush hour (lunchtime mon-fri), it is worth getting some udon (noodles) or a bento box but otherwise their sushi rolls are top notch. Worth the trip if you are in Canberra!

Quick service-amazing customer service-fresh food delivered PRONTO. What more can I say

Best sushi around. The chilli tofu is fantastic. Plus they offer a range off quite authentic choices such as unagi (eel) and various seaweeds, as well as the more standardised Western offerings like teriyaki chicken. Freshly made too.
It can be quite busy here at peak times, but they seem to churn through fast enough.
Definitely better than the chains that sell sushi in the shopping malls.
