After reading various reviews, I was reticent about what to expect here.
Needless to say, good service, and nice authentic food.
I had fish and chips which was hot, tasty, and tender.
It's decor is dated but its warm and intimate.
Best to bring your own wine, their selection is OK.
I would go again.

Staff were lovely but that's the only good thing.
Food was extremely overpriced for what you get, and you could easily make better for less at home.
Cheese balls were okay, but bland and nothing special.
Sausage and pea fettuccine was frozen peas (still hard, starchy, bland), cheap sausages and really bland.
Prawn spaghetti with lime and coriander tasted like a couple of prawns with tinned tomatoes and a tiny squeeze of lime. Overall very bland as well and uninspiring.
Pasta was undercooked, which was surprising considering how long it took to come out.
Ordered a side of veggies as well which never came - even though we were one of only three tables in the whole restaurant. Didn't end up paying for them.
Restaurant looks and feels like an old 80s bistro in a club and really does not match the menu prices. Of which, the menu still looks and sounds like something from the 90s, printed from Word '95.
Overall? Avoid completely, don't waist your time or money - there is so much better in Braddon, and more authentic.

The pasta meals were delicious and the chef came out to check with me when i mentioned that I had allergies. Service was excellent, meals came out quickly and i thoroyghly enjoyed my fruit tingle cocktail. There was however a limited wine list but you could byo with a small corkage fee. Enjoy

I went here for dinner with my partner and it was absolutely delicious. Lots of choices on the menu, with a number of great cocktails to choose from if you love cocktails like me!
Service was extremely kind and warm, always checking to see if we were OK or wanted anything. Its a great little place tucked away in the heart of Canberra. We loved every bite if our dinner with great starters and filling mains with a great desert list to finish off a great night.
I would recommend The Haig for anyone who's looking for a great food and service and great value for money. Thank you to all the staff that made it a perfect night for us.

First time here in 2.5 years of living in Canberra. Wish someone would have told me about this place sooner. Food was great, so much that my 4 year old ate almost an entire adult serve of Bolognese. Waitress was very friendly and its sad to see the end of it. 😟

ordered through uber eats after a very long day, 1/2 a star for it arriving and 1/2 a star for each Arancini ball which was the only thing in the $90+ spent that we could eat, mushroom pasta dryer than a nun's bits, apple salad with brown apple, pork belly with hard flesh and soft crackle and roast potatoes that tasted like they had been left in the bain marie at the food court. was such a shame we had heard such great things about this place, I can do better at home after a night out.

Sadly I can’t give zero stars on the review. Ordered through Uber EATS and received one of the most disgusting looking meals I have ever seen. Paid $70.00 for two half filled bowls and some arancini. Gave the restaurant the benefit of the doubt and called to ask for this to be corrected. Was first told there is no manager on duty and then received a call telling me it is Uber EATS problem and if I don’t like the food to throw it out. Great location though.....

Just had a scotch fillet and the salmon. Both very nice. Steak was big and cooked well. Wine was so-so bit that could have been my cheap taste.
