Review Double Drummer - Canberra

Josh Holmes
I've tried this place three times. The food was good once out of three. The third time I don't know because they took my order wrong twice, refused to give me what I DID order without charging me more and didn't apologise for the mistake. Bad business. Edit: I DID order bacon but you're too ignorant to listen, communicate or accept your mistake. So you blame me?? DISGUSTING! The only misunderstanding here is that you don't understand how to run a good business. That's why you have the worst rating of all the cafes in Barton. You should be ashamed of yourselves.

Move to barton a couple of months ago and have been coming here almost everyday. Food to great. A little noisy at times, however if you jump outside in the courtyard you can escape it. Great for a Friday long lunch.

Excellent staff, great fast service, great food and coffee was the best.

Portions served are huge!! Excellent place. Outdoor seating available, excellent menu.

This place deserves all the bad reviews it gets. Rude, incompetent staff and very ordinary food. Go somewhere else.

Great Chicken Burger. Dropped in for lunch with a college and had the chicken burger and chips. Place was busy, staff were friendly and service was fast

Prices are very reasonable, nothing to complain. Coffee and tea were great as well. Friendly stuff, easy to recommend, specially if you're sitting outside

Good food, but only for a 45 minute window. No minimum eftpos signage, but a $10 limit, only option is a $3 atm.

Had a tasty meal today at the Double Drummer. Great atmosphere and friendly service. Will come again.

Horrible food and coffee was burnt

Heaps mad, brilliant place for a substantial feed and a good quality coffee to kick start a nice summers day. Kick back and neck some pints after work or even get a little bit fancy and have one of the fine young bar staff whip you up a mean cocktail.

Excellent service, good environment, delicious food. Basically everything you want from a cafe.

Now that's Gold, walking across the court yard to double drummer and Blake and the boys can see me coming and had my daily iced coffee prepared for me!!! Awesome Service best in Canberra

No place like it in the nations capital, great coffee, great food, great atmosphere!

The service is quick, even when it's lunch time peak hour, the coffee is good and there is a lot of variety on the menu. Everything I've tried so far has not disappointed! Very happy to have another choice for food and coffee in the area for those of us who work nearby.

Double Drummer is hidden away in the middle of office buildings, and is swarming with public servants during the week. They have an extensive menu - everything from soup and sandwiches to burgers and a cabinet of hot food with some interesting options.
Today I ordered the southern chicken burger, which was a little disappointing. The chicken wasn't that flavoursome, and the way it was cut in half made the burger slippery and tricky to eat. The mayo wasn't particularly punchy, and personally I don't think iceberg adds much to burgers. Chips were good and my meal arrived pretty quickly. I've had better food here than this burger suggests, so I hope it's just one average meal in a line-up of awesome.

Great lunch spot in Barton. As expected it's packed full of Canberra's public servants. Food options range from salads, sandwiches and rolls to burgers and even baked salmon. Coffee, teas, juices and a range of alcohol all available. Everything looked amazing. Service was great. Polite and efficient staff. Surprisingly cheap. Great space and atmosphere so I'll definitely be back.

I eat here a lot when I am on the road, and I like the fact that there is a really good range of fresh and healthy options, along with the indulgence of a beef and gravy roll for those days when health food holds no appeal. Big and airy, this place is pretty much always busy. Which leads to its only real shortcoming - hard surfaces everywhere, no discernable noise attenuation, and metal chair legs adds up to a whole lotta noisy, loud, unpleasant din. If they got this issue sorted, I'd rate as 5 star.

We're really lucky to have a good cafe in the office. Great range of salads, sandwiches, hot food, sweets, and juices. They also do breakfast and have great seating areas. Service is good but can be a bit noisy.

Double Drummer is a bit like a cafeteria. There's different stations depending on what you're after (hot food, salads, sandwiches, cake, coffee, fresh squeezed juice). We love their sandwiches. Normally we wouldn't be keen on a pre-made sandwich, but they're made fresh daily and super tasty. On the last visit we tried the Pastrami and Salad Baguette. Delicious! and great value at under $10.

Just had lunch at Double Drummer in Barton and it was top shelf...The Portobello Burger was just magnificent. I'm not a fan of brioche buns in burgers but this was sensational. A big fat juicy portobello mushroom, crumbed and fried with iceberg, tomatoe, pesto and garlic aoli. Just superb. My wife's chicken burger was also spot on. Accompanied with crunchy fries, gravy and washed down with a chocolate thickshake.
Defo be back again to try breakfast....

Grabbed a quick brekky from this cool place. A massive set of options as well as great coffee and freshly squeezed juices. I grabbed the pistachio and cranberry yogurt, cappuccino and apple, carrot and ginger juice. A bit too much food/drink for me but all was flawless. A great spot. Can't wait to come back again!

One of the nicer coffee spots in Canberra! Consequently, the place is always flat out. A good selection of food, all of which is really yummy.

Great place to swing by for a coffee and bite to eat for breakky - get in early and get the coffee and roll combo - $8.50 but get the bacon and egg wrap!

Don't try and hold a meeting there though - far too noisy and massive crowds from AG's and PM&C at lunch. $10 EFTPOS limit.

My colleague wanted to schedule a working lunch and so we went to Double Drummer, snapping up an outdoor table that had plenty of sunshine despite the chill in the air. I usually order something hot, but I decided to be a bit adventurous this time and try the chicken parmigiana roll from the sandwich bar. The staff kindly toasted it for me and brought it out to the table quite quickly, considering how busy they were. The bread was beautiful and crusty, but not teeth-breakingly so, and every bit of the roll was packed with filling (yes!). The chicken parmi hadn’t been warmed from the toasting, but was crispy and golden nonetheless, although not quite as tender in parts as I’d hoped. It went perfectly with the shaved parmesan cheese, thick tomato sugo and – my favourite – the grilled eggplant layered on top. The fresh spinach leaves added some nice crunch and I only just managed to finish the whole roll. Double Drummer’s food is great value in the Parliamentary Triangle – try it for tasty cafeteria-style meals.

Tasty, good value and good variety. A great large cafe with a good variety of food. You can order burgers & chips from the menu and they taste good. You can also choose from a variety of food from the counter ready to go or dine in ($11 only and good sized portions). Overall, a fantastic place, great service, tasty food, great value!

Soup so peppery it was inedible. Got the Potato and Leek soup for lunch today but it was so peppery I couldn't eat it!

I note another review saying the salads are too peppery as well. (why are you even putting pepper in a salad).

Seriously guys, lay off the pepper! I'm in no rush to go back now.

Salads. Please......hold off on the pepper in your salads - way too much!

Great new barton cafe.. Tried this new cafe in barton for breakfast before work. AMAZING bacon and egg rolls, great service and plenty of space for breakfast meetings. Will be back.

Really disappointed at the lack of gluten free options. With more and more people being diagnosed as celiac or gluten intolerant, and more and deciding to eat gf, why are there still so few options! For breakfast on the go you can have yoghurt or a chai cookie. For lunch there is usually 1 gf hot dish (often not marked as gf either, meaning one constantly has to ask). No mention anywhere of gluten free bread available on request (although I'm told they do have some out back).
Come on guys - get some delicious gf friands, some gf fruit loaf or banana bread and make a few more hot options gf please!

Cavernous space but good food. I found the ambiance here a bit cold for breaky. The food itself was great though. I had a stack of bacon, egg, haloumi, kale, and chutney. My request for gluten free bread was met with a smile. I really liked the coffee. The waiter was very precise. Main downside from what I could see was they had loads of interesting looking fruits and veggies in the cabinet but they only juice them, removing all the goodness; no smoothies available.
Hungry88
Good for lunch but coffee can be average (hint hideout is much nicer!). It gets busy but they are good at managing the crowds

Extremely disappointing experience. Paid 19 dollars for the world's smallest steak sandwich. Have previously enjoyed Double Drummer but will not be going back after this experience.

Pretty good, some teething problems. Double Drummer is a very welcome new addition on the Barton scene. The coffee is good, although the coffee service can be somewhat haphazard; the lunchtime food is sensational, reasonably priced with a great variety.
The only major issue - the sweets and pastries that are left out all day on top of the cabinet, right where everyone leans across to pay, coughs, sneezes, drops and retrieves coins from amongst them. Frankly it's disgusting, and prevents me from going there for morning tea. I still go there for lunch, and overal I think it's a great place, but this aspect really needs to be fixed.

I will definitely return and try some of the tasty-looking pastas and salads at the main food bar.
