Review Dolce And Salato - Canberra

KK
Very busy cafe, but soooo many options for dessert. Came back twice during our 4 days in Canberra. Opens later than more cafes too which is great. Portions are decent sized too. We had a group of 7 and sat outside, which is.a bit dirty (ground need to be swept a bit, and tables weren't being cleaned fast enough). No service outside except for when they bring the food to you - you have to order inside and take a number.

Fun and packed cafe in the middle of Canberra next to the Canberra Central mall. Great place for desserts 🍨 and gelato which is what we had. You order inside and they will bring your order out but no outside table service. Dessert 🍨 counter displays were gorgeous and decor was nice with wine bottles displayed. Fun place to sit outside and people watch.

Huge range of deserts and cakes. This place is in huge demand. Sitting arrangement is in open area, they do have few tables inside the store too. Staff is always on the go due to high demand, but on time and good service. Open till 11 pm. Kitchen closes at 10 pm. Yummy and tempting cakes and deserts. Lovely dinnerware.

Best dessert place in Canberra. Slightly overpriced but quality, taste and customer service makes up for it. Owner looks after most of the customers individually which is commendable !

Huge heart portions, perfect for a cold night out. The lasagne is so rich and comforting yum. Not many dairy free options so keep this in mind if you’re lactose intolerant. Drank the best hot chocolate, try a dark hot chocolate next time 🤤 My friend’s hot choc didn’t come in a mug (and he wasn’t asked either). Space was quite cramped, not entirely sure it’s covid safe to be sitting to close to other people but if you like the cozy vibes this might be a positive instead.

Yummy gelato, 2 scoop for $7.90. Love the setup with plenty of outdoor seating. I find it cute the waiters are dressed fancy and there's classical music playing

One salad and one pizza took 55 minutes for the restaurant to serve. By that time we had finished drinks. Awful service for such average food. And with weekend surcharges the meal was $75 for a simple Greek salad and procuitto pizza. Would not go back at all.

I have been twice to this store and so far I have tried their vegetarian pizza, penne Napoletana, Spinach & Ricota Ravioli, multiple pastries, small cakes and coffee. All these food items specially the pastries are made to perfection. Their sticky date pudding will give stiff competition to Jag’s restaurant in Sydney. Next time I am going to try different gelatos.
Quality! It Shouldnt Be That Hard! Love A Wonderful Mouth Full Of Wholesome FOOD!
It’s is a nice cafe, good coffee and the best ice coffee iv ever had.

The avo poached eggs had hits over some kind of curry seeds it wasn’t that nice.

The açai bowl was amazing and fresh!

The position of this restaurant is sooo good for selling gelato! I cannot just pass by their colorful ice cream! The cakes here are also amazing! Each of them looks delicious. Bought twice for birthday. The brunch menu also has various options to choose from, vegetarian friendly as well. Kinda italian, I saw many people ordered their pizza!

Dropped by for ice cream on a hot summer's day. Ice cream was yummy, service was great and fast. Don't have anything bad to say from my experience.

Tried the peri peri chicken pizza. The base was very very soggy. Friends tried the meat lovers which was much better. Slightly pricey. Good desert and gelato options. Variety of cakes.
Patricia Soch
We had the Via Dolce special pizza, it was served pretty quickly, which is important as someone with just a 30min lunch break. The pizza was not too thick, not too thin but the base was a bit soggy in the middle. Will definitely have to try out the desserts next time we visit!

Went in to take away a slice of cake and paid $8 for an one inch thin slice of a dry old cake.

Way overpriced for the quality and the service staff's disgusting attitude made the experience even worse.

Considered walking out after receiving the worst customer service ever but thought I would give them a chance - only to find a paper thin slice of a awful tasting cake when I got to the car.

Threw it straight out after one small bite and drove straight to the Cheese cake shop for $10 slice that is 5 times bigger and 100 times tastier.

Save your time / money / inner peace and give this place a miss.

This place feels very Italian from the moment you walk in. The layout, the tiles, the way the counter is laid with all the different cakes and pastries, the great smell of wood fired pizzas, the selection of gelati at the from the window, and the cups and saucers and the black and white uniforms of the wait staff. Great gelato and wood fired pizza! Coffee was a bit mild for my liking, but i do like a strong coffee. I couldn’t fit the ricotta cannoliin but will do so next time!

Perfect location for this venue on the corner, perfect for summer when the doors are open to serve Gelato. As soon as we walked in all we saw were cakes, chessecakes, cannoli, slices so many to choose from but for this time we just had these three which were delicious. I would recommend if you around civic and wanting dessert to check out this place!
Featured below are the Vanilla Slice, tiramisu cake and a chocolate vanilla cream filled cannoli.
Edmond Rosario
Always my go to place to get my share of sweet fix. The ambience is warm and inviting and one would have a difficult decision to make while choosing for an array of cakes and pastries on display. For someone looking for more savoury delicacies their wood fire pizzas are a big hit.

Actual rating 3.5/5

We went here for dinner one night and boy was it packed, both indoors and outdoors. Luckily we got one of the last few empty spots. Via dolce from first glances would appear to be a gelato and cakes store with a decent display of the above. However, on their food menu they also serve pastas and pizzas. We ordered the lasagne, hawaiian pizza and vis dolce special pizza. The pizzas were nice, but not amazing, and the lasagne was a lot smaller than expected. Food took a long time to cook and service could be better.
Jo
We got two take away pizzas from here - the verde with spinach and another with salami - which were very good. The base was fresh and crunchy and the ingredients were good quality and not packed on (a good thing).

Absolutely disgusting customer service for overpriced tasteless food. Rude staff and manager. Save some time and and don't even bother visiting this place.
Hung Ton
reading the reviews here make me wonder why they go so hard on the service. service was very good, even for young staff they have been trained well. prices are very attractive and coffee and cake was good. would go here again.
Scott Dyce
If there was an option for negative stars I would I have selected that. But unfortunately minimum is 1 star. Where should I start - WORST SERVICE EVER - RUDEST STAFF . Save yourself time and money, just avoid this place. Trust me you won't be disappointed.
Lorraine Hawkins
Worst Place, will never recommend it to anyone. Worst food I ever had absolutely tasteless, awful customer service. Sloppy staff who could not even get the order right
E
I have been here several times and have enjoyed their cakes and gelato. Service is prompt and on the most part good, staff do like to stand around and chit chat. There is crowded seating inside but plenty of seating outdoors. Cakes are beautifully presented and the taste is alright. Gelato is good too - nothing outstanding but is probably the best in the area. Coffee is alright but the temperature could be warmer. Worth a check out if you are in Civic.
Dimitria
The gelato is quite nice, we had the mango, lemon and cookies and cream. The rest ranges from average to below average. The crepes are edible but the frozen ones from the supermarket are better. The cakes we chose were stale - chocolate mousse cake and strawberry brĂťlĂŠe tart. The sorbet mocktails are served in a champagne glass and need to be eaten with a spoon - so actually a sorbet sundae.
I will not return.

I’m kind of obsessed with ice creams haha
And by far this one has been the best I have tried here in Canberra
Must try the cassata flavour it’s very different but tastes good.
Richard Ross
The worst most tasteless, overpriced gelato I've ever eaten. Will not be back, very dissapointed. My wife and kids had a strawberry cheesecake gelato which tasted like a bland vanilla, and the sorbet was like water in flavor, with the consistency a mixture of hard chunks, and a gooey, half frozen ooze that can only be compared to mucus. It cost 15$ for the lowest grade of gelato we have ever eaten, leaving a horrible taste in all of our mouths. Please avoid this shop.

A great ice cream on a warm warm day! 😍😍

Delicious ice cream! Would recommend the chocolate one! Go get some! :D

The ice cream options are plenty and the ones I tasted were all super amazing!
R
I would give a higher rating but the price for the cakes are a bit too overpriced now. The cakes however, are still great - one of best, and it's definitely my go to place for dessert, as it has a wide range.
The Red Velvet cake & Cannoli are my favourite atm. red Velvet has a smooth texture and not ever too dry, but tonight the portion given was way too small for $8 a slice. I've had some pretty bad cannolis, and this one is just right- not too thick or sweet.
The drinks and coffee here is reasonably ok, and the price is not too bad as well.

As much as I would complain about the price, and my disappointment with the size of the red velvet cake, I'm still going to pop in here every once in a while because the dessert selection is too hard to resist.

(Accidentally took a bite out of the cake before taking the photo, my bad)
Anastasia B
Beautiful cafe, service wasn’t great. Overpriced. Incredible selection of cakes, had the chocolate continental cake, wasn’t aware it was a cream opposed to a frosting which I didn’t like that much. Cake however was very fresh and tasted great. The mudcake was great, incredibly rich.

We came here specifically for the waffles and we weren't disappointed. Light fluffy batter and freshly made; all three that we ordered were uniformly sized and made, and consistently struck the right balance between a crusty exterior and a light soft interior. Wit Via Dolce have quite an extensive menu and with waffles being just one line item, we did expect premade, so being freshly made was a pleasant surprise. Our waitress was very pleasant and attentive, and as a first timer here, I was glad we came. Good range of gellato as well, which went very well with the waffles and fruit compote.

My go-to happy place for fantastic gelato! Consistently great. Having tried the Ferrero Rocher, and Rum and Raisin flavours, I can say that I'm excited to make my way through all their flavours - I've yet to find a bad one!
Kelsie
Stopped by for some dessert. Even though they were busy they found us a table and staff were very lovely. The gelato and the chocolate pudding were delicious. The only issue was the side of cream - not real cream, it was the artificial whipping stuff. Otherwise a really positive experience and definitely satisfied the sweet tooth.
Aaron Mangos
Great desserts, I have had gelato from here many times and it is always great, the coffee, tea and small cakes from here are great too, will definitely be returning.
EatLiveEat
I almost always drop in here for a dessert fix after dinner in one of the nearby restaurants. They have an amazing range of gelato (and sorbets) and a fantastic display of desserts.
I have tried their cheesecake and found it to be amazing. The gelato are fresh, and although a tad expensive, are a treat!!
Recommended.
Karl Schot
very poor service, we waited for nearly 1 hour for less than average yet overpriced food. Do yourself a favour and stay away from this place. We feel we should have been advised about the wait. Apart from that the food was very disappointing: poached egg overcooked and salmon clearly not fresh.
Cecilia
Fantastic cafe In ACT!!! Great cake and coffee. Love Black Forest best and flat white. Impressed by their style and atmosphere. Though a little bit noisy.
Adventures In Winterland
Oh, hello #icecreamthurs, aka I’m-in-denial-summer-is-over. Canberra’s dessert scene has its own little hub in Civic – after shopping with a friend, we decided to have something sweet and ended up standing on the corner that encompasses the tough choice between Koko Black (chocolate), Oliver Brown (chocolate) and Via Dolce (icecream). Of course, we went for the icecream. The display cabinet at Via Dolce is always beautiful, and with such exotic flavours as Prickly Pear and Blood Orange, it was hard to choose. In the end I went for the Raspberry sorbet, wanting something refreshing. The portion was a good size (although it did look small in the cup) and the sorbet ticked all the boxes – good texture, just the right amount of

Via Dolce was packed when we stopped by for pre-dinner cake. The counter displayed an impressive variety of cakes, desserts and Italian biscuits. We settled on the hazelnut-chocolate mousse (we'd actually asked for the chocolate-hazelnut torte but we didn't mind the accidental swap) and a slice of the St. Honore. These were typical pre-made cakes, not horrible but certainly nothing memorable. Didn't try the gelato but there was a steady line of people queuing for it. I thought the tables were a little too close for comfort; we could easily hear the conversations at the neighbouring tables.

Stale cakes - tastes like they have been sitting there for weeks! The owner was very abusive to staff, extremely rude and super unwelcoming to guests. I watched my pasta get re-heated in the microwave and then served to me after waiting 40 minutes. Staff were nice but as the male owner continued to verbally abuse them (in front of guests), the nice staff turned blunt and unresponsive. After dinner I paid $5 for 'gelato' the size of a golf ball, very runny and gritty. Would highly NOT recommend to anyone!
Liz Zhao
The worst restaurant ever!! Tasteless pasta and crab dessert... There are also many flys inside... Staff are rude and careless... I will never back again :(
Jack Fitzgerald
Rude staff. Sour owner snatched my incorrectly delivered order from my hand and silently returned the correct slice. I waited for her to say something and she simply held it out and stared at me. Hardly the Willy Wonka type the media typically portrays dessert purveyors.
Poorani Bala
Gelato was extremely average. Texture wasn't right at all, it was really grainy. Cakes were pretty standard too. After having gelato from Cow & the Moon and Messina, it's hard to look back!

Do yourself a favour and steer clear, I have never felt more indifference in my life then when I enter this place

3 times now to be exact and always because the group insists and each time the same scenario.

Really people who could like a place that serves pre made cakes that taste like they're a week old !, even the Coffee is terrible !

No thank you and in future I'm changing my group lol
DianaW
Seemed to be waiting forever for my take away flat white. Will probably have to excuse them as it was Xmas! They made up for the coffee with their great array of deserts & sweets however. The raspberry & chocolate slices were amazing but at $8.5 not exactly el cheapo! Also highly recommended the Chocolate Continental Cake-indulgent stuff, but hey we were on holiday!! Oh almost forgot keep walking past the ice cream (gelato) on the way out you will have sugar overload otherwise!!

Such a let down. The ambience was fabulous, the setting outside was beautiful in the sun, a busker playing acoustic guitar, we honestly thought it couldn't get better as the place was quite busy.
We ordered the bacon and eggs benedict for $14.90, cafe latte, hot chocolate and pancakes with caramelised banana and maple syrup $17.90 (charged an extra $5 for a scoop of ice cream and cream). The E&B benny appeared on a very small slice of sourdough with a small piece of bacon and 2 very small poached eggs. The hollandaise was a very peculiar runny frothy milky liquid which was entirely reminiscent of not Hollandaise.. The pancakes...well devo. When paying $18 for pancakes you expect homemade, fluffy cakes of goodness right? Not Tip Top, straight out of a packet from Woolworth's, cheap and nasty. Was guttered, really with such a spectacular location i really had high hopes. The place looked pretty, the service was friendly but clearly this place is about making the most profit it can. Im sorry i won't be back.

Lovely presentation .. I don't think I've ever had espresso coffee from a tea cup before. It didn't make it taste great, but it looked nice.

In fairness - this was Boxing Day and the place was pumping (you know .. Canberra Style ..), so they were a bit distracted - but did their best to seat us and serve us.

The apple strudel was delicious - although the rum and raisin ice cream was a little too methylated spirits. The coffee was .. OK.

Via Dolce is on the corner of Garema Place and Bunda Street with many competing cafes nearby. It offers breakfast, coffee, pizzas and gelato. This is the third in our series of breakfasts and since we are enjoying them so much we may add a fourth.

Alexi
I ordered the Mega Breakfast ($22.50) because I am a big fan of big breakfasts and a Freshly Squeezed Orange Juice ($6.00). The first thing I really liked about this place is walking in you can really smell the gorgeous smell of the wood fired pizza oven. I was incredibly hungry this day as we got there later than normal, for a breakfast. When it came out, I didn’t think it would fill me up and (spoiler alert) it did.

We have been once before and loved the pizza crust so much I knew we’d be back one day. Their menu has changed (the menu on their website is actually old..) and I don’t believe this pizza was on it last time. I think I would have noticed. I love potato on a pizza and I won’t say no to Italian Sausage so this was perfect! The crust was a bit crunchy but mostly nice and chewy, the potatoes soft and the italian sausage slightly spicy. It was delicious and I wish we’d bought more than one!
Stella.lx.diao
Nice wood fire pizza and ice cream, recommend the Italy dessert, worth a try. Nice place to be with friends and family to have dinner together here.
Elaine Kwok
The service here is awesome, and the dessert here are really lovely. We ordered two ice chocolate and chocolate cake. It's a really nice place for afternoon tea. I would love to come again.
Faye
Came here for breakfast. Good service. Coffee was alright and so was the food. Cant say its amazing but it's not bad. I would recommend this place, but not to coffee snobs. ;) my friend ordered eggs benedict - looked and tasted great (plate was empty)!
Bec Harrison
The best scrambled eggs I have eaten in Canberra. The basil accompanied the eggs so well.

The french toast was well cooked as well though the bananas could have done with more carmelisation to top the meal. The berry coulis was great!
Vanessa.sidhu
Love the cakes. I went to via dolce first time on wednesday around 8 and NY cheesecake was amazing and great customer service .
Jen
Rude manager and tasteless coffee. Never return!
Jsm171
I wanted to really like this place, with the nice ambience and amazing display of cakes, but the experience was disappointing for the price. Piccolo, latte and flat white were fine, if not memorable. New York cheesecake was quite tasty, with a good selection of fruit on top but for $7.50 I was served the saddest, thinnest slice of cake I've seen in a cafe. Staff were friendly though.
Gillian Napier
Very Pretty, but not much else. I've been watching this place for a while and meant to go in for ages, the place looks so lovely and I could see pretty cakes from afar. I finally got around to heading in there with a friend, we were overwhelmed with how beautiful all the cakes and slices were and at all the range, we bought about 6 pieces to take home and try because we were so excited.
Every single cake was a big "Meh". From tarts to slices to strudel, it was all very beautiful but lacked any real flavour. I was expecting this party in my mouth of delicious sweetness- but instead got plain cream and tasteless dough. Huge disappointment.
Service was adequate but not spectacular. It's also very awkward if you would just like to purchase cake; their layout is organised as such that if you're browsing, you stand in the main walkway the staff use to serve other customers and they're constantly squeeeeezing past you holding things.
All in all, I won't be going back there. I prefer as cake that's ugly and delicious over a beautiful piece of cardboard.
Adventures In Winterland
Dolce and Salato has rebranded to become Via Dolce, so of course when Mum and I walked past on a wander through the city, I had to check it out and see if the gelato was as good as I remember it. The range of flavours seems to have remained the same, with several sorbets on offer, much to my delight. We decided to try the mango and got a small cup to share. The sorbet texture wasn’t quite as smooth as I remember, being a little bit icy, but the mango flavour was strong and genuine and didn’t fade the more we ate; a very important criteria for assessing quality gelato/sorbet. We did have an odd moment towards the end of the cup where the flavour changed – it took us a while to realise that it was actually a passionfruit flavour, which must have been on the scoop from before our order, but it was a bit strange expecting mango and suddenly finding passionfruit! Despite the name change and the flavour mix-up, this remains my go-to sorbet place in the city, even now that the weather has cooled down.
Hello
Best Pizza we've ever had. We are a family of four who were in Canberra for the long weekend looking for an Italian place open on a Sunday night that was reasonably priced, no easy feat mind you. Came across Via Dolce and made a reservation. We ordered 2 Pepperoni Pizzas and a Topical as well as a serving of Cannelloni. It came really quickly and everything was so fresh and light that we gobbled it up. Service was great and lovely to meet the owner. Definitely somewhere that we'll return to and reccomend to any one we can!
Elspeth Kay
Yummy eclair, good service. We stopped for a milkshake, cup of tea and a caramel eclair and sat outside. The setting was very pleasant and shady under the plane trees, and the service was professional yet friendly. My eclair was delicious, and our request for a paper cup for the toddler's milkshake was promptly and pleasantly met. The only downside was that the music (classical) was uncomfortably loud, so that we had to raise our voices to hear each other, and it wasn't exactly relaxing or calm. Would happily make this a regular haunt if the music was at a more pleasant volume.
Jo Oliveira
The worst dessert I had in a long long time. How can you get pistachio ice cream wrong???
The triple chocolate cake was disgusting and even the salted caramel ice cream didn't pass three tea spoons.
Very disappointed!!!
Jamesstrang1
Strange, strange place. I followed the opening of this place with interest - and stuck my head in a few times. They have an impressive range of cakes and pastries - but they're all double the price of Dobinsons down the road. I finally ate here just before Christmas with my family. Strangely, they do not have a wine list, don't offer any recommendations on wine - but said we could choose from any of the bottles scattered around the shop. Just bizarre! Is this some kind of loophole to get around the need for a liquor licence??

The pizza was average and overpriced - and their gelato is very poor. Ever since it first opened as Gelato Joes, the ice cream's had a gritty, icy texture that they haven't managed to fix.

Breakfast starts at 9??. We went into Civic on a Friday morning, especially for breakfast at this cafe as we had stopped in a few nights before for some takeaway gelato and pastries. We normally try a different cafe each week. We arrived at about 8:10 to find it was closed, despite a sign out the front saying 'Open for Breakfast' and it was obvious that it wasn't going to open anytime soon with no staff movement to be seen. We have since learnt that they open at 9. Very disappointing. Perhaps they are doing so well that they don't need to open any earlier? Opening at 9 - I would have thought that most of your clients or potential clients would be at work by then.
Vivi.riches
Where's the flavour?. Meh no flavour in the main meals

Great place. Don't know wha.... Great place.
Don't know what's with the negative comments about this place.
I eat at this place every tuesdsy before I start my shift as a cabbie.
My standard apple rhubarb crumble followed by a wood fired pizza.
Always great, staff always accommodating and friendly and it's always pumping.
Nothing but praise for this place
Alexandra Craig
Worst service EVER. Came in on a Saturday night (13 September) with my partner. It wasn't especially busy, easily 4 or so tables were free. I had a particular craving for profiteroles and noticed that they had a cake with profiteroles on top. My partner asked a staff member if they happened to sell profiteroles separately. We were met with a very rude "what?", almost in a bitchy tone of voice. As we started to explain again, another staff member approached the staff member we were talking to who then started a new conversation and ignored us. A third staff member approached and we were ignored for longer, then the original staff member just walked off! We got up and left. Worst service I've ever experienced. So incredibly rude.
Tips And Tops
Went there a few times and it hasn't been the same since the new manager arrogant, poor service and Waited far to long it's a shame to say quicker and better at mcdonalds

Tonight I purchased the Mars bar cheesecake and the carrot and walnut cake. I was utterly offended by the taste of these hideous cardboard creations. Dry and flavourless. I will never eat here again. They ruined my night.
Etroy10
Worst In Canberra. I visited the establishment on a Thursday afternoon and was immediately turned off by the staff who closely follow and watch you as you look at the deserts/passteries, I found this invasive and uncomfortable. After feeling rushed to make a decision, I ordered a slice of Mars bar cheesecake and a coffee. The coffee was so disappointing I refused to drink it. Finally the cheesecake came, as delightful as it looks it was not at all appetising. It was extremely dry and there was not a slight hint of Mars bar flavour in it, it tasted as if it had been sitting there for months. To top the experience off I was ripped off and charged $5 for a coffee (which is the incorrect price) and the owner was extremely rude towards staff and shut the door in our faces as we were leaving. Would not recommend
Bresolution
Absolute crap. Dry and tasteless cheesecake probably mass manufactured.
Audrey
I've never been to a restaurant with such poor customer service, the manager was the rudest person I have ever enountered. The food was average and over priced expensive.
Nealg
A disappointment. I had high hopes for this place. Nice European atmosphere, pleasant music, but I waited 45 minutes for my pizza. It was probably one of the worst I have eaten. Hard overcooked prawns, burnt base with ash on the bottom. Yes I know it was a wood fired pizza but maybe they should clean their oven occasionally.
Alanajohn
Words cannot express how disappointed I was in this cafe. I cannot tell you what the food was like as it never arrived....... After over an hour. The manager was arrogant, rude and unwelcoming, the worst customer service I have ever received. Would not recommend to anyone.
Ashley LIU
The service was alright, the staff was very kind and polite. I had 2 flavors in a cup to go, and it is the least amount of ice cream I have had. It was such a small cup and 2 tiny balls she gave me. And charged me $7.50. Also the ice cream was very soft, almost melting, it wasn't a hot day at all! Well, I don't think I'll visit again...
Fail
Fail. Place sucked - the coffee was cold and filthy. Most amazing location - just has the worst coffee
Hmph.
Unhappy cheesecaker. Incredibly average cheesecake - tried the mars bar cheesecake, the new york cheesecake and the berry cheesecake, and all lacked flavour despite being visually appealing. Would not recommend.
Lipgloss38
Has the potential to be amazing..... This little cafe has the potential to be a Canberra hotspot however a few things need to change. The manager is rude and incredibly unwelcoming and most of the staff have absolutely no idea what is going on and can barely speak english. The cakes are amazing, the coffee fabulous and the gelato brilliant however the ambience and authentic feel is ruined by the stress and chaos throughout the cafe. A few staff changes and some direction could do wonders for this cafe.
Craig
Have been here are few times and really wanted to like it as I live nearby, however the staff are terrible. An arrogant manger and staff who are inattentive, lazy and unwelcoming. A shame as this place could be a real gem.
Joanne.low
Foodcriticnokidding. Looks good as a shop, gelato was average...bit over priced. Tried the macaroons, I'm sorry I'm no baker but what were those? It was over baked and over whipped this is why it's hollow inside and hArd. You probably added too much flour to the filling too...it was too hard to be called cream. Won't go back, can only imagine the what the cakes would be like...
Foodie
Great shop beautiful look and lovely staff who are enthused to be working in a great location selling Canberra some of the most beautiful Italian cakes . Not to mention the wood fired. Pizzas are Italian style well done and all the best Canberra needs this
Scaltere
Authentic Italian. A bit pricey, but first class Italian coffee, gelati and pastries. Pastries are the best Italian pastries I have come across in Canberra. Have been numerous times.

Great icecream!
Allira Barnes
Overly loud music, manager appeared arrogant and abusive toward his staff.
Sara Boonthasin
Macaron is crap. Apple frangipani is aight.
Lauren.a.cunningham
Visually appealing, nothing else. Both the desserts we ordered (raspberry tart & tropical cheesecake) were well presented, but the taste was well below average. Frozen raspberries, nothing resembling cheesecake present in the cheesecake (just curd) and generally just lacking in flavour and ‘wow factor’. For between $6.50 and $13 per piece it is reasonable to expect something more. Add to this the appallingly slow, unprofessional and inefficient staff, I would certainly recommend going elsewhere.
SnowyKiara
Very nice and very trendy. Deserts taste awesome just the ice cream was a bit melted.
In summary canberra needs more places like this
Adventures In Winterland
I’d never had anything from D&S before, and was pleasantly surprised by the range of gelato and sorbet flavours available. I will always pick fruity over chocolatey, so went with the peach sorbet and raspberry sorbet, wanting something refreshing. It was a good choice – the raspberry was nice and tart, but the peach was the standout, somehow managing to convey a really strong peach flavour. The sorbets had substantial texture – they weren’t too smooth, and were just what we wanted on a warm arvo.

Dolce & Salato Pasticceria is an Italian patisserie, bakery and cafe that opened up in Civic today. I've been patiently waiting for this place to open and have been watching the shop (formerly Gelato Joe's) transform into a glamorous looking cafe. Located on the corner of Bunda Street and Garema Place (near Koko Blacks), one of the first things you notice are the big French bi-fold glass doors and arched windows that open up to display the cafe's selection of gelato. The cafe has made use of the outdoor space, placing 12 tables underneath sun umbrellas which are all surrounded by lush green hedges. That simple idea brightens up the whole corner and makes it really stand out. I was impressed. (Photo sourced from Dolce & Salato facebook page). Photo taken from Dolce & Salato facebook page Inside, there is a long glass display counter with a shiny white coffee machine on one end. Too late in the day for me to try out their coffee though. A shelf of baked breads also lies behind the front
Tales Of A Confectionist
Over the weekend Canberrans were out and about, enjoying the sun, doing a spot of shopping and a lot of them were having a sweet treat from the new dessert hot spot in Civic Dolce & Salato pasticceria , which had only just opened up less than a week ago. A quick look inside- there are very cute tea-cup lights and a very big cabinet full of Italian desserts but I’m always a little wary of Italian pastries because there is nothing worse than stale pastries, so I went with a gelato instead. Lots of friendly staff ready to take your gelato orders. I am a fan of the indoor and outside seating area. Tiramisu gelato ($5.00) and Yoghurt berry ($5.00) . In the first instance of tasting the tiramisu, you could really taste the liquor followed by a coffee flavour. There is no mistake that it was tiramisu but the texture of the gelato when I went in for my first mouth full had me worried as it had the consistency of thick cookie dough batter. The yoghurt berry in comparison had a completely diffe
