Review Oliver Brown - Canberra

Alireza Bahramzadeh (Ali)
Milk chocolate hot chocolate is good but only if you have one once a month, you can fill the sugar down your throat, but that’s just what milk hot chocolate is, but compare to kokoblack hot chocolates I rate this as 4/5, which is still acceptable, customer service is generally good, with girls engaged and make a quick chat unless they are busy. For winter in Canberra with 99% of shops closed, I’m so glad Oliver brown is open at nights and during the week

I ordered the hot chocolate and s'mores waffles, I was feeling like I could not have anything else after (in a very good way) Both things were amazing, I would highly recommend it to anyone with a very sweet tooth, might be too sweet for others

Absolutely delicious coconut hot chocolate and coffee!!!! My wife and I went on a Saturday night 35 minutes before closing. The ladies were SO NICE..the young man serving us...not so much, he was obviously over the shift and wanted people gone and was not impressed at more people coming through the door! Oh well!!! The fondant for 2 was DELICIOUS 😋 and well enough for 2. It's a must try. Overall It would have 5 stars if not for the butt-face serving us. ✨️

Really nice coffee! Real chocolate on their Cap! That’s my favourite!

What an absolute joke. Went in at 9:30 on a Sunday morning, ordered banana crepes and a milk shake and waited 40 minutes for my order. My partners milkshake still wasn’t provided after a 45 minute wait… got a refund and left.. If you’re happy to wait an absurd amount of time for a below average small serving of crepes and bananas and a milkshake, go ahead. If not, do not waste your time.

Good ambience. Great selection of beverages and ice cream options. Public parking nearby. Must try the heavenly hot chocolate. Very smooth and flavourful. Ice cream was a bit dry but tasty. All in all a wonderful experience did not know where my 45 minutes disappeared. Worth a try.

Loved it here, they serve a range of desserts from waffles to sundaes to crepes, not too badly priced, and also very tasty! Everyone working here was really nice too, so I recommend it

Have been before and really liked it, but the last 2 times have been very bad. Ordered banana crepe, which came with 2 crepes - one fresh and one old/half cold ( very noticable next to the fresh one)
Also had a cookies and cream shake which normally has chunks of cookie in it, but this one was just a regular boring shake and somehow was not even cold!?

Staff were rude and looked like they just wanted to chat amongst themselves rather than do their jobs

You'd think if you ordered ice cream as a side with your waffle and churros that they'd be served at the same as your waffle and churros. Nup! They bring out the waffle with two serves of ice cream, then 15 minutes later out comes the churros with no ice cream. Of course the ice cream had melted/been eaten by then. No apologies, just "oh we already served the ice cream." Seriously lacking in common sense!

COFFEE AND HOT CHOCOLATE 3.0
MACAROONS 3.5
SERVICE 2.5
AMBIENCE 2.5

A cosy place to hang out, they do some things well, however service is a bit disorganised. Overall not a bad place and a place to try and go back to for some things. Tried their Macaroons and hot chocolate, was pretty good.

Just an unpleasant experience. When you're indulging, it's nice to actually indulge! Here, the tables are grubby and slow to be cleared, water glasses were murky, the service is sooooo disinterested to the point of rudeness, and the cakes don't taste fresh at all. Hot choc was good but not as nice as I've had at other OB stores. Try elsewhere with your sweet tooth.

This cafe is literally the cutest Cafe in that area, one look and you are drawn to it!

I loved the ambience, it is so gentle, sober and calming at the same time really pretty and cute.

This place has the most amazing hot chocolates ever! One sip and I had foodgasm. They also have great cheesecakes and Brownies. But best hot-chocolate ever!

Coffee tastes good but please be careful not to overfill take away coffees. Mine was so over filled, I didn't realise and ended up spilling coffee all over my shirt. The lid was also leaking so was very difficult to drink and messy.

The waffle is good but the topping berry is not fresh, they are frozen ones which reduce the flavour of it. On the other hand, the sauce on it is too sweet!

This place is well situated and use Bonsoy. But the coffee barely tastes like coffee, there's caramel sauce on the cappuccino instead of powdered chocolate, the staff are morose, and there are limited chocolate options.

Nice ice cream. Though some of the signs for the flavours were missing, and there was no sign indicating the prices for ice cream either. Many of the tubs were 99% empty... But the staff are friendly :)

Have to admit I am a sucker for Churros & they happen to have really good ones here. Coffee not so good however & service was a tad slow, however once again I have to say it that word Xmas!

I breathe and live for the churros dipped in milk chocolate. I would go back there everyday of the week just to get my hands on those churros 😍

Some franchise that has set up shop in Garema Place outside Canberra (across the road from Coco Black). It's okay-ish, while nothing on the menu is bad, nothing really stands out either. The hot chocolate is great for a cold day and among the deserts I would recommend the waffle with berries (the other one with the banana/walnuts/chocolate is a bit too rich). As at the time of this review I believe they have added sandwiches/wraps to their menu as well.

The service was pretty good, which is the only reason this review isn't a fail -
The 'crunchy balls' and mint hot chocolates were OK, but not really worth the $6 they cost. .. most disappointing though was the babycino for our toddler! #1 there was more milk than froth, which is a rookie mistake - we all know that part of the beauty of q good babycino is the fact that it can't be spilled so easily... #2, and really the main gripe we had, the milk in the babycino was HOT! As in, the same scalding temp as you'd use in a hot chocolate. This could have been pretty dangerous and, as it was, we're fairly certain our 2.5 year old burnt her tongue slightly when she took a big mouthful... not cool guys!

Disappointed. Visited during a time when it wasn't busy- service was slow & staff rude. When we did eventually get our order ( had planned on eating in & getting waffles etc but rudeness from order taker made me reluctant to stay) my milk hot choc was really good, but the dark hot chocolate was terrible.
I'd rather wait at Koko black.

Bad service, cheating as well!. I loves the churro there, but one of the lucky day, I have an extra bug being bake with my churro as well. so I took it back to show the short, skinny girl who work there on that day. she quickly grap the churro and throw it in the bin with a grumpy face with out saying sorry.
Guys, just to let you know no point to use the reward card because you can never get the free one. This is the second time for me. When you bough your 9th cup, they will stamp your free 10th cup as well. If you don't know,it's looks like you have all the cups stamped so your next one will be free but it doesn't work that way. But actually, for the reward card, you will get the card TAMP for free NOT get the 10th cup for free.
As you can see from this photo my son bought a hot chocolate, a latte, he gave $20 and got $9.90 back with two stamps and sure enough one of the stamp is on your free cup.

-----08 May, 2015-----

Bad service, cheating as well!. Chocolate delicious. I thought I'd write a quick review on here because I've been to the city Oliver Brown a few times and never experienced issues with my order or wait times.
That being said, if you want to go to Oliver Brown and the wait times concern you then maybe try the store in Dickson. Not many people know it's there.. I went on a Sunday afternoon and it took

Delicious Waffles !!. I went to Oliver Brown with a friend last night. They were quite busy with only 3 staff working. We had to wait over 30mins for our Belgium waffles. But it was well worth the wait ! They were hot, crispy and delicious ! Generously drizzled with chocolate topping with the right amount of sweetness. They were obviously overwhelmed with the long weekend trade that night, I would recommend more staff. But I definitely look forward to sampling Oliver Brown again.

A long long wait. Had to wait 30 minutes for a hot chocolate!! Not acceptable. Cafe was not busy and people who came in after me, got their drinks first. I had to go up and ask where my drink was, then they made it. The staff were Ok. I just think they need more training.

Terrible service. Went for dessert Saturday night. They weren't busy. Ordered two desserts between us and they broughr out the first dessert but not the second. Had to go and complain twice over a period of about half an hour before they agreed to refund the second item. Staff struggled to speak English. Would definately not recommend or go back.

Very disappointing. Went for dessert lateish on a Friday night - not too busy and 4 staff on. They managed to forget our order and leaving us waiting for over half an hour, serving other diners before us who had ordered after. Forgot the icecream on the waffles, disappointing iced chocolates (much like Gloria Jeans frappes) and we had to leave with takeaways due to the time. If you're going to compete at all with over the road, you really need to pick up your game and provide MUCH better customer service and well presented food.

Its good :). So much better than Max Brenner & San Churros. Their Waffles & Churros are legit. Its great how its open till late too :)
