Review Hangari Kimchi - Canberra

First time Korean BBQ with our two young kids, they enjoyed the experience. Love it that they cooked for us, it's hard otherwise to eat together with 2 young kiddies. Super recommend the steam egg, best I have had and yummy side dishes, get refills of your favourite ;) Great experience!

I’m a Korean, and it was my first time to eat Korean chicken after arriving in Australia. To be honest, before eating the chicken, I was doubtful about the taste of chicken as it will be a bit different from the real Korean chicken taste. However, it had 100% the same taste compared to real Korean chicken. It was really delicious. I strongly recommend you guys to try eating Korean chicken. With a wonderful memory, next time, I will have some other foods.

Food was good! But you will need to wait abit of time. Reception staff was rude and not helpful when asked when the last dish going to come (becoz others guess already finished their meal but mine still not show) Good flavor, if the staff can give it a good training would be great! And also please turn on the Airconditioners in the room !!!!!! Is very frowsty in that private room.

It was a fantastic experience. The ambience is both warm and inviting. The dish was presented beautifully and tasted delicious. This warm and inviting eatery has made a lasting impression! Highly recommended

The moment I entered the restaurant, I was greeted by professional and well mannered people and ushered me to my table. The place has the best cuisines where I was served promptly and it’s so good that even you will starting booking for days. I would recommend this restaurant at ease : )

When I discovered the Van Gogh Alive taking placing in Canberra, thought how awesome it would be to spend a weekend with my dear friends after forever long lockdowns. I do not come down to Canberra very often as Sydney has everything you could look for. Especially finding good Korean restaurant is not very easy these days and I only saw the sign of Kimchi which I thought interesting, when I got closer, I saw the full name 항아리김치, how cute is this?? When I saw the name of the restaurant, I was able to picture that grey hair of master chef getting some of homemade chili paste out of big ceramic pot in their own backyard somewhere country side in Korea. Well, the owner of the restaurant seems to be quite young and I am quite mesmerised how she is able to maintain the restaurant so tidy and manage numerous customers with big smiles. Once seated, fairly quick delivery of foods, lovely gourmet meats(wow.. so yummy) and happy faces shown at the table next to me. These show why they are super popular and people queued up to be served. Location wise, quality of food wise and price wise, this restaurant hits the top of the list. I am so satisfied with this beautiful dinner unexpectedly that made me forget any of Korean restaurants instantly in Sydney. Petite size of display of Korean musical instruments was bonus. Very proud to see they are doing so well with dignity and pride and I suppose this is how Korean restaurant should be. I don't know when I return back to Canberra in the near future but I will come back to try other food for sure. Well done guys.

Food was delicious. The staffs were friendly and helpful. They were very considerate to squeeze bookings for 10 between their already busy and fully booked weekend which meant a lot to me(It was my birthday😊)

Korean BBQ done right. Great BBQ and very good hotpot. Have the wagyu if your budget extends that far, totally worth it. Looking forward to the next visit.

Went around for dinner on our first night in Canberra and saw the fish roe soup on the menu. That made us chose to go in and try without second guessing.
Ordered the snow cheese boneless chicken and the fish roe soup. The side dishes came and we all enjoyed it, even the kids. Main meal came and first slurp of the soup gave us a satisfying feeling. Though it wasn’t a ten it definitely was decent enough flavour for us to enjoy.
Although the flavour of the chicken was good, it was slightly overfried as what follows crispy outerlayer was a dried- hard to bite chicken. Thank he inside still succulent as thighs were used but the parts that got exposed to the frying oil was overdone for sure.

Overall it was a good meal.

Excellent choice to have Korean food for dinner this evening. My kids enjoyed the pork schnitzel and chicken. I had Bibimbab with pork. The food was incredibly amazing. I am very tempted to come every day.

Cheap as food. The boss and workers were so impolite. Like the other reviews suggest, they do rush you while you are still half way through your food and remove the heater while the meat is still half cooked. It is way overpriced for meat that is size of your pinky finger. They only give you a massive bone in the middle to make it look "big". Absolute dissapointment. DO NOT GO. YOU WILL REGRET.

absolutely DISGUSTING AND REVOLTING FOOD. DO NOT EAT HERE.
The service was absolutely terrible with extra money charged for things we did not order. They rush you to eat quickly so that they can get more customers and the food itself tasted like my dogs meat. NEVER EAT HERE. YOU WILL REGRET

Tried various Korean dishes here. The seafood Korean pancake was really big, about a size of small pizza and quite thick too. Assorted steamed dumplings were average but tteubokkis were nice! Half a chicken of soy chickens were also pretty nice, it came with few pieces of white rice cakes :) really nice side dishes on offer too so worth coming here if you want to have some Korean food I reckon!

It was a popular and packed restaurant. My partner and I were randomly seated on a four person table with another random couple. Then after being seated was rushed to another seat on another table. Staff were frantic and this really brought down their service. Selected the BBQ meats, very underwhelmed with taste and cut of meat and portions were small for the price paid. The Japchae was delicious and was the only thing I thoroughly enjoyed here.
The dolsot bibimbap was really good, I only wished that they would have given miso soup on the side.

My friends also enjoyed their tteokbokki

Ditched B for this one, and tried my first Korean in Canberra. We had the Kimchi omelette, pork with kimchi, pork dumplings, prawn dumplings (both steamed), and I tried some hot ginger tea - which was AMAZING. The prawn dumplings were probably the highlight of our experience, but there was nothing on the menu I could fault. The kimchi omelette is massive too! Definitely recommended.

Terrible service.
We came in for dinner on a Monday evening.
We were rudely asked to change table to make room for a table of six (without apology)
I asked for a refill of two small side dishes. No action taken at the first time and when I asked again, a guy told me that they were "too busy and could not do it". What kind of excuse it is?!
As a waiter, if you think that you are busy, tell your manger, not the customer!
Rude service.

So I had been to this place on a regular basis, usually ordering a few of the fried chickens each time.

Our order had been wrong a couple of times previously but had just passed it off as a one off mistake, however, recently I ordered two chickens over the phone (in Korean) and my husband picked it up, when he picked it up the staff were rude but he has become used to this from this restaurant.

When he arrived home I found that both the chickens were not what I ordered, I called the restaurant to see if they had got our order confused with someone else, this is when the person on the other end became rude claiming my husband had made the order and ordered what we had, I then told the person that I had made the order. The person continued to make excuse after excuse for about 5 minutes and then abruptly said "bring the chicken back" she even inferred that because my husband was Wester he was stupid.

Very very rude, average chicken and very very poor service, to start an argument when I called up to just see if there had been a mix up and continued to deny any mistake had been made. Eventually apologised the next day but by text message, damage done, will never go back.

Used to love this place, they recently moved to a bigger place but the service became terrible. Hope it gets better and organised soon otherwise they’ll lose their loyal customers.

I've had a ridiculous craving for fried chicken lately so on Friday night one of my foodie friends and I decided to do a little food crawl in Dickson. Breaking my Korean fried chicken virginity, we headed to Hangari Kimchi in Dickson. It was about 6:30pm on a Friday night and we didn't have a booking. We were seated quickly and given the menu. There were a few things on the menu that I wanted to try but we were there for the fried chicken so we ordered the Incredible Gangjung chicken and a few beers to wash it down. The restaurant itself is quite small and the tables are very close together. There were quite a few people in for the Korean BBQ. The meal came out quickly and was served with a little bowl of picked vegetables. The sauce was sweet and sticky, perhaps a little to sweet for my liking. The pickled vegetable were a perfect side dish and cut through the sweetness of the sweet sauce. The chicken was crispy on the outside and moist and succulent in the centre. A half serve of chicken was $18, a little pricey in my opinion but Canberra prices tend to be a higher. I'll definitely be back to try some of the other fried chicken on offer. I also want to try the Korean Pancake and the Japchae. A good restaurant to sample some Korean cuisine in a cosy, casual atmosphere. Perfect for a catch up with friends or a casual celebration. I'm no expert in Korean cuisine but the food was tasty.

The food was ok, but i was disappointed to not be allowed to cook my own BBQ, I asked politely twice. Also, this review shouldn't need to be 140 characters.

The snow cheese chicken and the ganjung chicken were really good. One of its kind. However, the other dishes were pretty average and lacking flavor.

Food was pretty average. Not bad but nothing special. The soups (i had the Kimchi soup and the Spicy Beef) were a let down. Bill was around $260 for 8 people, typical for Korean food. Wouldn't come back.

Great food, friendly service. I love this restaurant. I am a regular for eat in and takeaway and am never disappointed. Love the rice cakes, dumplings and soups.

Extremely slow service, came with the really salty seafood soup (barely could see any "seafood" inside), and gooey "crispy" chicken. Kind of disappointing and will not come back again definitely.

BibimBAD. I have to say that I'm not a connoisseur of Korean food but I have liked what little I've tried so far. My go-to dish is the ubiquitous bibimbap. I love it in a sizzling hot clay pot so I can swish the runny egg around and let it cook a little before adding lashings of chilli sauce.

Unfortunately, Kimchi failed to get this one right. I received a plastic bowl with lukewarm everything. To me, that just ruined the whole dish. Everything ended up feeling a bit sloppy and - if I'm honest - unpalatable. I have had a purposefully cold bibimbap before but that was on an aeroplane. And I would go so far as to say that it was better than this tepid one. When you'd prefer airline food I think it's a bad sign.

I also ordered some pork and prawn dumplings which were lovely but not good enough to redeem the main dish.

Oh, and my coke was flat. Won't be going back.

The worst restaurant I ever had. It seems there is only one waitress who works as reception also. She's incredibly rude. She’ll just put your dish at the side of table without saying anything except an unhappy face. When I tried to ask an extra tissue. She even pretended not hearing me after I said twice 'excuse me'. The food tastes terrible. We ordered beef and mushroom hotpot. There is only 5 -6 small pierces of beef. The rice cake looks disgusting.

Overpriced but decent Korean. Food is decent but certainly not worth $30 that we paid (2 of us) for lunch. Flavours were distinctive Korean and the food was well cooked, presented, hot and prompt.

However yet again today I found myself eating something that I have madr a few days ago, namely the "kimchi's own spicy pork dish" - just a bit of Gochujang paste, garlic, onions, carrots etc... and mix into a stew.

I like it but I won't be going again.

Fine meal. I found the staff very professional and friendly.
The menu is good and the food is excellent.
I often eat there and have only good recommendations.

Sadly this place used to be a lot better.
The waitresses speak very little English.
The drinks we ordered weren't in stock (twice). They brought very little sides out with our 2 huge BBQ platters. To bill was over $150 yet they charged us for extra lettuce. Avoid

Absolutely standout! Headed in keen for some spicy food and dumplings. We had tofu vegetable dumplings and pork kimchi dumplings, which are some of the nicest dumplings I've ever had. We also had spicy japchae noodles, sizzling spicy squid, and a gorgeous rendition of dolsot bibimbap. Super authentic Korean, super fast service. Also, don't overlook the tea at the back of the menu. The "citron" in it is yuzu, which is kind of hard to find in AU. And the ginger tea is super restorative, according to my mum, who had a cold which was definitely somewhat remedied by the combination of hot honey-ginger tea and copious kimchi!

Food very average! I have been to many other Korean restaurant which is much better. The waiter keep hiding behind the counter and not interested to serve us! We have to pretty much walk to the counter to get her attention and order our meals!! Never going back there!!!!

As per the custom I discovered in Seoul in December 2008, Korean restaurants like to give a lot of free sides with the meal. Here we were presented with kimchi, beanshoots, grated potato and some sliced sausage & onions.

A fairly new restaurant opened on the main strip of Canberra's Chinatown, Dickson, Hangari Kimchi is a cosy small restaurant with the typical Korean BBQ set up of the stoves on the tables Picture menu with the typical hilarious engrish Entrees mainly consist of various types of dumplings, steamed or fried, there's a small selection of Korean BBQ meat dishes, hot pots and noodles When at Korean BBQ - the main thing is to keep hydrated as it tends to get a little hot! Cute little teapots with a bamboo handle Deciding on what to eat can be a long task at a never before visited restaurant!
