Review Hog's Breath Cafe - Canberra

For a Tuesday evening it was quiet. Maybe it was Covid maybe it was normal? Either way it needs to be occupied more. I truly miss crowds despite never liking them. The food was served so quick, hot and tasty. I had the scallops and steak. My wife Tropicana chicken which both were awesome. This kids a cheese burger and Tropicana burger. Both hoovered up without a breath. The staff were amazing, friendly and attentive. Even though one of our meals was taken wrong, they replaced the meal so quickly and without hassle. The rocky road dessert was huge and as you can see more than enough for four of us. My wife and 2 daughters included who all have a huge sweet tooth. I did my fair share as well. Thankyou. We will be back.

Arrived early in a Saturday night and was served straight away. Meal came out quick and was delicious. There was a big crowd on a table in the corner bit it didn't affect the speed of our meal. My steak was cooked just how i like it and the sweet potato wedges crisp and fluffy. The lighting is a little dark.

Fast efficient service. Excellent, well cooked meal. Great tasting steak. Good staff. Great atmosphere. Clean facility. Located downstairs, a few metres from the bus station. Convenient location. Parking located across the road.

Dropped in on the chance we could get a table with no booking. Got seated. Had an hour. Two awesome steaks and drinks later. Left with 10 minutes to spare

Tres delish - decent keto option if you're in the area. Party of 3 went for lunch and we were seated quickly. Service was prompt and attentive and offered table water straight up. We ordered steak with no entrees or anything else. Food was served at the same time. Steak was cooked medium rare, with good charring around the outside. Caesar salad and steak toppings were good, although the avocado felt a little small. Would definitely return for another steak there!

We have eaten everything in the photos and my sundae has not yet come. We waited another half an hour and still didn't come. Finially,we paid the bill and the sundae still didn’t come 😡

Good value for money. Family friendly. Good for large groups. Steaks were a bit hit and miss - some cooked perfectly, others over done. Got our orders a bit mixed up, but graciously corrected it.

Staff here were very attentive. Food was delicious. And the prices are spot on.

What a rip off. Bad food and prices. Entree, two meals and two drinks totalled $95! My “avocado chicken” had ONE slice of avo on top of my minimal chicken. Hardly any garlic sauce either. The juice in my Mai Tai tasted like cheap $2 orange juice. My partner’s “Coca Cola brisket” was dry, tough, and did not taste strongly of coke at all. Total waste of money, we should have walked out without paying. Wait staff were lovely. Will not return, ever.

My first time to a Hog's Breath Cafe. Went to the Civic restaurant in Canberra on 3/03/16. One word, DISAPPOINTED and ANGRY. My friend and I sat down at approximately 6:30PM, we ordered around 6:35PM, we both ordered a medium rare premium steak with chips and salad. After waiting for 30 minutes, our meal still hadn't arrived. We saw other customers at a table of 4 who came after us, got their meal before us. We then had to ask the waitress to check how much longer our meal was going to be ready because it felt like she forgot to put the order in. She came back 5 minutes later telling us it will be another 10 minutes. Finally at approximately 7:20PM, an entire 45 minutes later, our dishes arrived and you can see by the photo it was definitely not worth the wait at all. Comparing my photo to other photos, I probably got half the serve of chips on my plate, so disappointed for such a LONG wait. Let's just say I won't be back.

I haven't been to Hogs Breath Cafe for awhile and today was my first time and it was great. I had my traditional cut hickory sauce steak. The service was also very very good. The wait for food was not very long which is always a bonus. Two thumbs up!

Haven't been here for long time, very disappointed . The soup is cold, the cheese stick is burnt and stick together, the service was bad. We won't go back again . Save money for somewhere better

Had a delicious steak as per usual. I ordered medium rare and I got medium rare. Also got some of those delicious curly fries.

A thing that could be added to my experience would be a larger selection of non-alcoholic beverages. As my medication makes it a better choice for me to not grab a beer, I am given a pretty limited choice of the standard 4 softies, no boutique selection for me. My friend's had a large variety of beers to make their decision... I did not.

Good thing the Steak was great!

Hogs Breath has a wonderful selection for diners who want to have a killer meal.

The menu has a variety of options like Steaks, Chicken and amazing sides.

We ordered a Steak and Rib with Barbecue sauce, a Hawaiin grilled chicken and a Chicken with Mushroom and Feta.

All the dishes were great. We ordered three different sides of Potatoes Mashed, Baked and Fries just to try them all.

I didn't like the such that came with the Hawaiin Chicken though
It was too tangy for my taste buds.

The service was great at this place. All in all a nice place to eat at.

My experience didn't match the other reviews so perhaps service is variable. The steak was very, very good and the service was the fastest that I have experienced. I am not a big fan of the HB chain but my daughter loves them and we have been to about 10 of them across Australia and 3 of their restaurants around Perth several times. This was 1 of my better experiences.

The worst service I have ever encountered with Hogsbreath!!! My family and I are from Victoria and we recently went on a road trip around half of Australia. We love our Hogsbreath and I will admit, every state we recently visited, we dined in a Hogsbreath and they were all top notch. First of all, the Canberra branch has no wheelchair or pram access to the underground restaurant. My partner and I carried our pram down the stairs to the outside dining area. Second of all, when our drinks arrived my son was asking where his colouring sheets were as he ALWAYS has these given to him upon arrival or shortly after. I asked the lady and she said "If you want the colouring sheets, you can just grab them next to the bar" and pointed down another flight of stairs when she could see I had two little babies and a child. Thirdly, my sons KIDS meal was nowhere to be seen after more than half an hour waiting. My partner asked if our food was arriving any time soon and we were informed "shouldn't be more than 5 minutes" 20 minutes later, our sons kids pasta had still not arrived. We ended up leaving as we could not wait any longer due to our young children. But by far the worst hogsbreath experience I have ever had. Definitely will not be going back and will be telling all my family and friends about this.

Shockingly below par. Expected a lot more from Hog's breath, having had some great experiences in the Wagga Wagga branch. However, my first and only visit to the Canberra CBD's branch was met with dry, barely edible steak served with burnt chips and soggy half-boiled salad.

GREAT FOOD BUT SLOW SERVICE. This outlet is not accessible for disabled diners.I had to struggle downstairs and get someone to carry my wheelchair. Not good for a popular restaurant celebrating it's 25th anniversary in Australia,. Very friendly and helpful staff help make our visit an enjoyable experience. Food was guaranteed to be free if it took longer than 15 minutes to arrive. It did take longer on a very quiet sunday afternoon and it was not free. Slow service is common in Hogs Breath outlets but the food and ambience is well worth it.
