Review Max Brenner Chocolate Bar - Canberra

Reasonable, but looking a bit tired. The cakes were pricey and didn't hit the spot flavour wise for me. I had a choc hazelnut one, it seemed to be a lot of cream and gelatin and the chocolate did not taste that good. The tea + cake deal is still a reasonable deal @ $15. The long opening hours means it's a convenient place for a catch up.

Tried many variety of desserts and drinks many times and overall it’s a great place with amazing ambience. The service sometimes is very friendly and sometimes the staff looks tired and agitated. Overall loved this Max Brenner!

My go-to place almost every weekend in winter. Can"t go wrong with the classic hot choc. Lots of dessert options. May have long wait for the order to come in rush hour.

The food was pretty average, considering their high prices. Their fondue was definitely overpriced for what it is, tastes like melted Cadbury chocolate with dry banana bread, packet marshmallows and strawberries that weren’t fresh. Could definitely make your own at home for a fraction of the price with fresher food. However their new renovated shop looks quite nice, and seemed to be clean when we went in, compared to their older store before renovation and although service could’ve been much faster for what the food was, and the fact there was hardly any other customers in the store, the employees seemed to be friendly.

The quality of the place has significantly dropped, but prices are still high. The dishes were dirty, from the cups of water to the plates the food came on. The staff seemed annoyed that we wanted clean dishes. The fruit with the fondue wasn’t ripe, bananas are meant to be soft. The $10 shake was just ice, milk and some chocolate syrup. Would’ve preferred milo to be honest. Very sad that once a fine restaurant has become so poor quality.

Since this store reopened with different staff, the quality has dropped significantly. I have tried 3 times since they reopened to get a decent hot chocolate (like they used to have) but it is not to be. The hot chocolates are now too cold (even when I ask for extra hot) and so weak that you can't taste the chocolate. It's not worth it anymore, the prices are the highest they have ever been yet they are using less chocolate in their drinks. Do yourself a favour and grab a better quality hot chocolate from one of the many nearby cafes. *Edit* - I tried a hot chocolate from Max Brenner in Sydney and they are still the same as they always were. It's just this canberra store that's getting it wrong.

Not as great an experience as I had been looking forward to. Cups provided for the jug of water were not clean. Cutlery was provided but only for four. There were seven of us. Two of the tea light candles to heat the chocolate went out less than five minutes into "the experience," and I had to relight them. The initial contact at the counter was a very young inexperienced lad, who was very hard to understand. We needed another server to take our order. All in all, a very much overpriced and disappointing way to spend some time.

I had hot chocolate and it was not good at all. It was not thick enough and was watery with a little bit chocolate and too much sugar. I won't go back there ever again and don't recommend this place to anyone
