Review Bean And Grain - Canberra

Great little cafe, excellent bread. Coffee seems popular and the service was good, well mannered and quick. The serving sizes are generous and it was all well cooked

First time here. Coffee is nothing special, however, they have pouring cream which is a plus for me as I like it I'm my long black (a lot of places don't have). Ordered scrambled eggs with some smoked salmon. Got sacramled eggs with wilted spinach and had to ask for the smoked salmon, which was brought out quickly. Bread was very nice and eggs good. Smoked salmon was really good ( I'm very fussy when it comes to smoked salmon). Spinach needed to be washed better and did have a lot of liquid under them. Staff seemed to be a mix of having no idea what they are doing to understanding their job. Having said that, friendly enough.

Mind blown! Best brekky I've ever had. As a complete foodie from Brisbane I've had a lot breakfasts and this was by far one of the best. The young fella taking the order and serving the food ought to be commended. Excellent customer service, amazing manners and a friendly welcoming smile. I'd be there every weekend if it was closer to home! Can't recommend enough!!

Best bread in Canberra. Fabulous baristas and great coffee. Breakfasts are special, and the pastries delicious! Love this place and that's why I come here every day! Staff are just lovely!

Went to Bean and Grain this morning for brunch with my partner. Clearly someone in management is looking to pay the lowest Sunday penalty rates on Sundays, because all the staff working were teenagers. Nothing wrong with that, but they all clearly needed some more guidance. We sat and waited for about ten minutes before anyone told us to go inside and order, there are no signs telling you to do so. They stuffed up our drinks order and our food, so more waiting. Then, once we got our meals, one of the staff harassed us by trying to take away our plates and cups about five times until we left. Not going back.

It's SO cold at Bean and Grain, I had to keep my coat on, when I let the guy behind the counter know he gave me a lengthy explanation as to WHY it was so cold, however I would have been happier if he just offered to turn up the heat a bit, so I could enjoy my time there, also the cold wind came whistling through every time door opened with no compensating heat increase..... please turn up the heat during the cold Canberra winter - which although officially over is still very much with us. I looked around and saw lots of people kept their coats on while eating their breakfast! Is this OK for people in Canberra, if not why don't people speak up! In the European winters you go into a cafe and it's toasty and welcoming, and you can enjoy your outing without shivering!

Felt I had to give my first rating ever to Bean and Grain Dickson. People need to know that coffee can be this bad. I suggest one visit so you will forever appreciate the decent coffee available literally anywhere else in Canberra. One Star.

Worst service I've experienced. This ones a long one. We sat down, and had to work out that it was counter service as there were no signs and no menus out. Once we worked it out, I went to the counter and saw the menus, which say its counter service only. Why they are at the counter and not on the tables I'll never know. From there, I took the menu back to our table. During the first 20 minutes we were there, I watched 3-4 tables of people having to clear plates from their own tables, staff clearing tables where there were no people and staff walking out to open bottles(?), serve meals and coffee and still walk back empty handed, passing dirty plates on the way. Once someone actually did come and clear our table (we had to request), it was done with a big plastic tub to dump them in, a noisy experience . You might think it was busy but there were still 4 or 5 tables empty and the place isn't big. I watched staff bring food and drink out and just dump them in front of the first person they saw at the table. No attempt to actually give anyone their meal or coffee, you just have to sort it out for yourselves. The staff have no idea who ordered what and at what table, having been asked twice if the orders they were holding were ours but were for other tables. Our meals arrived with confusion and before our cutlery did, and when the waiter noticed we didn't have any, she told us she'd be right back with them. 3 minutes passed until someone arrived with knives and forks, our meals getting cold. She had delegated the task of bringing our cutlery to someone else! My partner had wanted a burger, being that it's Bean and Grain. neither the Chicken burger, Aussie burger Pork burger were available from the menu. Neither was the pumpkin salad or the penne chorizo. Sadly, these were most of the cheaper items on the menu and more suitable for a mid morning visit. I ordered the Paleo meal with wilted spinach, pouched eggs, bacon and tomato. What I got may as well have been a soup. It was served in a bowl and the water from the wilted spinach pretty much drowned my bacon and tomatoes and left a pool of murky water at the bottom of the bowl. My partner ended up ordering the Bean and grain breakfast which she enjoyed. All round, not only is this one of the worst places I've had to eat at, it tops the list. Never again will I go back. Just atrocious. I'll add this note. I don't write reviews. I generally can't be bothered and I believe that any place can just have a bad day. It's generally not fair to write a review on a single visit in my opinion. This time, I just can't let it go. If the manager/owner ever reads this, take note. You're staff aren't the ones responsible, they were working hard, just not efficient, obviously were untrained, inexperienced and understandably frustrated. The system that's in place is clearly not working.
