This is my go-to Laos/Thai restaurant if other popular places were booked out. Spicy Aroma is always not too busy and their pad Thai is also tasty. The green chicken curry was authentic Laos which is different to your usual Thai curry, it had predominantly baby eggplant and bamboo. Dishes are reasonable priced and service has always been quite good for me
The food here is great, similar to how my mama makes it. This restaurant is very under rated! Love the Lao papaya salad and Lao sausage here, much better compared to other local Lao/Thai restaurants with quality of the food. Every dish is so flavorful. Staff are friendly and very attentive. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
GOOD / CHEAP / BIG PORTION are the things all locals love!Spicy Aroma has been here over 10 years and it serves up great food, I felt a little bad going to Holy basil because I usually go here but now I stop going to holy basil because its more expensive and portion got smaller! This place over holy basil any day! (In Canley heights of course)
Great little restaurant in Canley Heights. Food is tasty and at reasonable prices. There's a mix of Thai and Lao food on offer, but i personally prefer ordering the Lao options such as the Lao sausages, salads, bbq meats etc. combined with some sticky rice and it makes for a very satisfying meal. Servings are generous and spice level easily adjustable, upon request. I have also tried the usual Thai noodle dishes such as pad Thai and pad see ew and they are equally as tasty. They also have some lunch specials, though i have only been for dinner.
It is located slightly away from the main group of Vietnamese restaurants so can easily be missed, but it is within walking distance, so definitely not a hassle to get to. Worth a try.
Spicy Aroma has quickly become a favourite among my family, with my family visiting the Canley Heights restaurant 4 times in the past month. This is mainly because my Mum loves Thai/Laos food and when she is introduced to a good restaurant, she will keep revisiting it time and time again. Let's start off with the BBQ Ox Tongue pictured in the bottom of the photo above. This is probably one of the best BBQ Ox Tongue dishes I have ever had.
...The Laos Style Papaya Salad ($10.90) at Spicy Aroma is the first dish to arrive after we place our orders. Spicy Aroma’s Laos Style Papaya Salad is a spicy and pungent mix of thinly sliced papaya, diced tomatoes, spicy crab paste, fish sauce and chilli. It is served with a side of cabbage. It is a whole lot spicier and saltier than its Thai counterpart, so I wouldn’t recommend this dish for anyone who can’t handle chilli. Despite that, it’s a completely refreshing start to our lunch, and by far one of my favourite Laos dishes.
Excellent food and service. Always drove past here in the canley area but never took notice of it because of location. However after tonight will def be coming back ! Menu and food is on the same level as holy basil (maybe even better). Decent priced. Seated straight away. Will never line up for holy basil again
Love it. Good restaurant, very neat presentation in the restaurant itself and the food. I would recommend it to anyone. There was also a lunch offer where you can get a meal and can of drink for $10, but I am not too sure if it's still running.
Ultimately the best Thai in Canley Heights. Title says all. Service is immaculate, staff are super friendly. Portion sizes are just right and also it's such an authentic thai/laos restaurant. A regular.
A wonderful restaurant that my family and I patron often. We have never had to wait, the service is excellent and the food, especially the pineapple fried rice, are uniquely presented and delicious. As it is located towards the lower end of the strip there's also no need to hunt for parking in the congested part of the precinct which can be a nightmare.
Lovely place!. A friend recommended me this place, and it didn't disappoint. Delicious food, generous portion sizes, and the place was nicely decorated - it was refined, yet still casual and quite cozy.
Staff were incredibly lovely - so patient, helpful and polite. And when we were short about 20cents (we had enough money, but it was large bills, and we wanted to use our smaller change if possible), the man just smiled and said don't worry about the 20cents, and took our small change. So cute! I would've tipped him if I had any more spare change...
We had a quick lunch on recent Saturday at this place. We ordered a few dishes i.e. pad kee mao stir-fried rice noodle, pho Lao rice noodle soup and mango salad. You can order your dishes with your preferred level of spiciness. The stir-fried noodle had less spicy level than we expected but still taste quite good. The mango salad was quite spicy, but less sour and more sweet than we expected. The best order of the day was the rice noodle soup with beef (pho Lao). The taste of the soup were nice and a nice alternative to Vietnam-style pho soup.
Ambience and customer services are reasonable for a casual restaurant in a suburb like Canley Height. Prices on menu are competitive with similar style restaurants in the area. You can pay by cash or credit cards.
Best dried beef (a little sweet, and not tough), with sticky rice. I also love the soft shelled crab. The Nam Khao is also great (crunchy rice salad) The service is always amazing. My very favourite Laos/Thai restaurant.
Magnificent fresh food at reasonable prices. Be sure to have the Mango salad.
I had dinner here last night. Service was good. The waiter was very helpful in suggesting the best dishes. Took around 5 minutes for the first meal to come. The fish and the ox tongue are must have dishes. Superb experience.
