If you’re missing Vietnam & looking to teleport then this is where you’d go 😂. Everything from the decor to the smell and the works will bring you straight to Saigon. My parents & I love going here for celebrations. The fresh seafood & authentic Vietnamese dishes are so great here! Would highly recommend ginger & shallot steamed oysters and grilled cockles 😋

I ate with my family on the weekend and the beef with beetle leaf is so good with the wrap!! All the seafood is so fresh and yummy😋If you want to eat authentic Vietnamese foods whilst trying other new things, I highly recommend!!!!!!! The staff is great but sometimes hard to reach, and there’s also an area upstairs for kids to play with and to keep them occupied when the adults are eating.

Food was enjoyable. Hai Au Lang Nuong is a Vietnamese restaurant located in Canley Vale, serving a range of authentic Vietnamese dishes ranging from grilled meat to clay pot fish. Ample seating inside and outside the restaurant. High chairs available. I have been wanting to eat here for some time but never had the chance. I came on 2 separate occasions, lunch and dinner as my friend did not eat fish and all I craved for was the clay pot fish.

When we came for lunch, I didn't know what I was walking into as it felt overwhelming. The decor was excessive and the restaurant was in desperate need of a renovation. The tables felt sticky and the staff members were difficult to wave down as they were not around. There were so much decorations either hanging, stuck on the walls, or as part of the table numbers that there didn't seem to be an area not covered. Throughout my dining experience, my eyes were wondering all over the restaurant, it was very distracting.

After we settled and decided, we ordered for lunch salt and pepper tofu and combination fried rice noodles.

The food took a while to arrive but the noodles were worth the wait. The serving size was decent. The dish was yummy. It had the smokey 'wok' flavour. The meat and seafood were cooked well. I love lots of sauce and this dish had more than enough.

The salt and pepper tofu however, was a disappointment. It was crispy on the outside but lacked flavour. The type of tofu they used was also the firm tofu which was not smooth. I was hoping the garnish of onion and capsicum had flavour but that too lacked flavour. A real disappointment as s&p tofu is one of my favourite dishes in general.

We came back for dinner with my family instead and dinner was much more enjoyable. Customer service was still lacking. I could not tell who was staff or a customer as they were wearing black t-shirts and because they were sitting with the customers, I could not tell who was who. After we figured who the staff were, we were ready to order. I wanted to order the noodles again as they were so good but unfortunately it was a lunch menu item, shame as I was looking forward to it. Instead we ordered half a dozen of steamed oysters with ginger, shallots, in XO sauce, stewed silver perch in clay pot, and sour soup with silver perch fish, and steamed rice.

The food was packed with flavour and so yummy. The decor did not bother me this time around as I was overwhelmed by the flavours.

The steamed oysters with ginger, shallot, in XO sauce was yummy. It had a nice balance of flavours but it was not spicy, a bit of a let down. Otherwise a good dish with the added vermicilli. Very moreish. Even my kids ate it which was very uncommon.

The stewed silver perch in clay pot was nicely caramelized. It was salty, slightly sweet, and a little peppery but it did get a bit salty towards the end, you definitely need steamed rice to balance out the flavours. The fried pork fat was a nice added texture to the dish but a bit oily.

The sour soup with silver perch was yummy. It was packed with lots of ingredients - tomatoes, bean sprouts, ba kha (vegetable), pineapple. The soup was sour, sweet, and salty - satisfyingly good. The fish was fresh and the flesh was soft.

I did notice however, there was someone singing karaoke at the restaurant and the ?manager talking on the microphone in Vietnamese. Both which were distracting and unnecessary.

Verdict: Food is packed with flavour and very satisfying. Decor needs updating. Customer service needs improvement. Staff probably should wear another coloured top to stand out.

Worth visiting for the bizarre, eclectic decor alone, but the food is pretty special too. The menu leans heavily towards fish and seafood, with quite a number of dishes not often found in Vietnamese restaurants in Australia. Unique and delicious

Stop by here for dinner after recommendation from a friend. The place is really funky with Vietnamese vibes. It was jampacked resto and we had to que to get a table. We ordered grilled silver perch, steamed oysters with shallots, hot and sour prawns soup, and sugar cane prawns. All foods were fresh, tasty and flavorful. We called back our friend who recommended this place to say thank you for good foods :)

Very nice place for vietnamese food, you can smell the aroma from metres away. But the wait is so long. Love the sweet and sour soup here, tastes so similar to the ones in VN. Desserts are also good.

Mmmm... authentic Vietnamese food! Delicious. This place is a must try if you love Vietnamese food. I highly recommend their crispy rice and ca kho. They do the best ca kho I’ve had in Sydney. Food is relatively affordable as well and tastes really authentic and delicious. Their bo la lot is also really yummy and they give you huge pieces.

This place is the one of the best that serves up Vietnamese cuisine. It can be a bit expensive so come here if you’ve got a small group and share the cost while having tasty authentic Vietnamese food.

Come here for some authentic Vietnamese dishes that you cannot find in some other Vietnamese restaurants. My favourite were the cockles and betel leaf beef. Both were juicy and delicious! I also enjoyed the chicken with sticky rice.

Exotic and a great place to experience Vietnamese cuisine. We really enjoyed pork and beef rice noodle wraps and the papaya salad with snail. Two dishes would be enough for 4 ladies and no need to order rice. Quick service, close to parking, and friendly staff.

This far away place that I found on this app, insanely drove for an hour just to try some truly authentic Vietnamese food.
I wasn’t disappointed. Was it worth the distance? My stomach thought so...
The restaurant is cramped and looks as though it is hasty decorated.
Despite the interior of the restaurant... they served some damn good food!
We ordered the spicy noodle soup and their fried quail and that dipping sauce of theirs. That was something remarkable and memorable.
If only it wasn’t on the other side of the world, I may forgive the bad interior and frequent my patronage.
So they do say... you really have to travel for the good stuff.

I never would have thought to eat at this place because it looks a bit daunting and the food looks unfamiliar. It was selected to be featured in a marketing push to promote postcode 2166 as a dining destination, and I was the face of the campaign so I had the opportunity to savour some of its signature dishes including the stewed fish in claypot and the sweet and sour catfish. The beef salad is pretty amazing too. My meal was topped off with Vietnamese-style creme brulee, which is served with ice cubes. The creme brulee is a holdover of the French colonial days, I'm told. I thoroughly enjoyed the food at this place and am very motivated to go again.

Upon entering Hai Au Lang Nuong, you first think, wow...this place is messy, but soon you realise this is Vietnam. Not in terms of the messy decor, but the volume of decor that all seems to complement each other mutualistically. You enter smelling the fresh aromas of meat being bbq whilst being hidden behind the masquerade of the decor. We ordered a variety of dishes today and they were great! The only thing I disliked were the tamarind cockles, but that’s true to my own personal preferences. Overall, a great dining experience.
The only downfall of this restaurant is the overwhelming number of menus and choices.

My first time here. Great Vietnamese food. Wide variety of unique dishes. Food was great. Service was super fast. Downside customer service could be better. The staff sorta ignored us when we first got there I think we interuppted there lunch which isnt my problem. The boss lady seems like she has an attitude lol. One more thing is the cutlery is kind dirty. Other then that the food is amazing.

Love it here! Very authentic northern Vietnamese cuisine cooked on hot coals and served so fresh. Love the rice paper rolls and salad most of the grilled meats come with.
The prices are probably more expensive than your usual vietnamese fare but it is worth it! Bring lots of friends and family to share the dishes. The roasted quail, pork skewers and claypot rice are amazing!!

Hai Au Lang Nuong is the place to go when you desire authentic northern Vietnamese food. Sadly, my mother and I visited during lunch time when they didn’t serve their famous grilled chicken but instead we got the two Vietnamese classics.

The marinated pork chop with broken rice and mined prawn on sugar cane. The marinated pork chop was something I would definitely order again! It was tender, juicy and flavoursome. The charcoal taste combined with the sweetness and hint of saltiness from the fish sauce was to die for. We ordered it alongside shredded pork skin and homemade steamed egg.

The mined prawn on sugar cane was served with a bed of fresh salad, vermicelli and rice paper. You soften the rice paper in a warm bowl of water and spread it on the plate. As it dries and becomes tacky you would place a small portion of vermicelli, salad and a section of the mined prawn onto the rice paper. As you dip the roll into the fish sauce you taste the umami of the prawn mince, with the freshness of the salad giving you hints of mint, spice and bite and the softness of the vermicelli. It was enjoyed by both my mother and I.

The best Vietnamese restaurant in Sydney! Not an understatement! The food and the decor is literally imported from Vietnam. Do your tastebuds a favour and get a group of diners together, and share some of their grilled/bbq dishes and or soup. Their lunch menu of rice dishes and noodle soups are good but don't bother. But definately get the beef betel leaf or 'bo la lot' to wraps with noodles and herbs. Simply devine!

This restaurant is hard to miss, as you can smell the barbecued meats wafting out of this place whilst walking along the strip of Canley Vale.

We ordered the fried quail, oysters with ginger and shallots, steamed fish with ginger and shallots and rice to share for three people. Servings were generous - plenty to feed us all. The food was incredibly tasty and full of flavour, and cooked just right. The quail was a bit on the drier side although the marinade was great. Sauces for both seafood dishes were also really nice.

Service was alright, food came out pretty quickly. We were seated inside however it fills up pretty fast, but there is ample seating upstairs as well as outside. They do have quite a selection of food so be sure to know what you want ahead of going to the restaurant!

This restaurant stands out from the rest in the area. Situated on the corner, the interior is cluttered up with trinckets, plants, fish tanks and there are even rickshaws out the front for display. Hard to miss them.

Their menu is not like your usual pho and fish cakes. Its pretty extensive and luckyily there are some pictures to guide you.

We ordered the seafood hot pot. Spicy to start off with but as the seafood and vegetables cooks into the soup it sweetens up. Really enjoyed that dish.

Suckling pig and beef in Bettle leaves were really tasty. Salad, vermicelli and rice paper roll sheets are provided to be eaten with the beef. Pretty much every second table also orderedd this. Only criticism is that the crackling was a little too chewy for my liking.
Definitely do try the scallops. Nice sweetness to them and goes great with their claypot rice.

Overall pretty good value for money. Portions are big and food tasted great. Suggest booking on weekends because their dinner service is so chaotic. The whole time we dined, waiters were running around left right and centre. Can't wait until the next dine.

Seriously good. We went with a group so that we could try as much as possible and so glad we did. Everything was light, fresh and very delicious. Beetle wrapped beef, sugar cane prawns, and whole bbq fish were some of the bbq tinged highlights. Even the tofu was good (allegedly ). Sadly we missed out on the chicken in banana leaf because it took too long to come out. On the plus side it left room for dessert . The service was a bit haphazard but we were so excited about the food we hardly noticed.

First to arrive at the table was the Grilled Suckling Pig. It's always a treat having suckling pig as opposed to normal roast pork given the price tag. Also the meat to fat ratio in suckling pigs is much better so you never experience biting into a mouthful of fat that can sometimes happen with roast pork. While the meat was tender and still retained its juiciness, unfortunately the crackling was quite rubbery and not at all crunchy. A big disappointment given the crackling is the best part!

Hai Au Lang Nuong is probably the most authentic Vietnamese restaurant I've been to in Sydney. From the bright neon lights to the smell of smouldering embers, it instantly feels like you've arrived in Vietnam. After my girlfriend and I took some time to study the extensive menu, we decided to order the goi bo tai me and the popular whole grilled chicken with sticky rice. The goi bo tai me was exploding with flavour, and had the perfect balance between sweet, sour, salty and spice. The grilled chicken was nice, but quite pricey for what it is. I'll definitely be back again to try something new; there's enough on that menu to keep things interesting for a very long while.

Really authentic Vietnamese restaurant in Canley Vale. My wife & I both love their DIY grill meat set, especially the grilled beef & deer. Rare beef with lemon/tamarind sauce is another of our fav. This place remind us of BBQ restaurants in VN.

However, fried items from this restaurants really lack flavours. Come here for the grilled stuff & sour soup (Canh Chua).

Homely Vietnamese food in a bustling and casual environment. They also have a charcoal area set up outside for those after Vietnamese BBQ dishes such as cockle, snails, pipies etc. These are like Vietnamese beer snacks, rather than an actual meal. Quite expensive, especially if you are planning to order a few plates.

Many families come here for dinner, where they order a bunch of different dishes, a pot of rice and everyone shares. We usually like ordering the DIY rice paper rolls with beef or pork varieties and it's great that you also have the choice of nuoc mam cham (fish sauce for dipping) or mam nem (fermented fish dipping sauce). The fillings provided with the grilled meats are vermicelli, Vietnamese herbs and lettuce, pickled carrots and daikon, cucumber and pineapple. My favourite is the Bo La Lot, which is marinated beef mince wrapped in betel leaf and then grilled. Expensive, at $30 for just 2 skewers, so best to order a mixture of other dishes too, to share. Their famous char-grilled chicken with sticky rice is only ok, as the chicken can be quite dry. If you would like to try, but not commit, half chickens are available.

Yes that’s a life-size buffalo resting outside, next to the cluster of cyclos glowing under green and blue neons. Where’s the delicious aroma coming from? That’d be the flaming charcoal pit next to them. Seafood (pipis), chicken, sticky rice, they’ll cook just about anything to order in that spectacular open furnace.

I really like this place, the BBQ food is quite expensive but worth it, Charcoal grilled crispy rice is sooo crunchy and yummy. They also put different shell fish on BBQ. The skewers are very nice too, you do your own rice paper rolls, it's fun. Not a very fancy place, go with your family or a group of friends.

...it was a Friday night and the Ga Chay Bo Nuong Than (grilled free range chicken) was on the menu! The chicken is freshly grilled in banana leaf and is served with a slightly sweet Vietnamese glutinous sticky rice. Despite being grilled, the chicken retains its juiciness and was incredibly soft in texture. It was perfectly charred and you get the hint of sweetness from the banana leaf. Oh gosh, it was good.

We order the Bo La Lop Nuong Than. Although the betel leaf is very subtle, the grilling of it brings it to another level. It adds another depth of flavour whilst the marinaged beef absorbs the (light) smokiness.

You can smell it from a block away. It’s the smoky hiss of charcoal and the tantalising aroma of slowly barbecuing fish and chicken wrapped up in banana leaves. Truly authentic. Felt like I had been teleported back in Vietnam when I came to Hai Au. Everything about this place ooze authenticity, the menu, the ambiance, decoration, even the way everyone eats and talks and orders.

Food is really yummy, though can be pricey. I highly recommend their grilled chicken with sticky rice ($40 enough for 3 people). This place serves food from the Southern region of Vietnam; hence the taste can be a little bit on the sweet side. Sounds weird but I actually prefer this way

Didnt really like their desserts, maybe it's just not their forte

What can I say? Their service always comes with a smile, they are attentive and the food, it never disappoints me. I'm Vietnamese, and this is as Vietnamese as you can get without the fanfare, without loads of MSG and without the hefty price tag that you can receive sometimes in some other restaurants. Their decor, with the hut right smack bang next to a window, where you can see what they are roasting, very much reminds me of Vietnam. Always a good flow of people in and out. They also have an upstairs dining area for larger groups. This is a nice, cosy, relaxing type restaurant. Think of eating Vietnamese food, with a beer in your hand, leaning right back into your chair, and looking around seeing pretty much the same behaviour as yours. Love it.

DIY BBQ of specially house-marinated meats (incl exotic things like deer, crocodile, as well as your usual beef and chicken) on a charcoal grill at the table.. The Vietnamese ladies there even help you grill when they see you can't do a better job than them :) the best thing is all BBQ meat orders come with unlimited vermicelli, salad and rice paper to roll up your own rice paper rolls... Dipped with their house-made fish sauce... Heaven!! Our fave BBQ meat was definitely the lemongrass beef wrapped in betel leaves - MIST TRY!!
They have an open rotisserie on Fri sat and sun nights serving charcoal free range chicken wrapped in banana leaves ad served with sticky rice - just like what you'd find on the streets of vietnam! However we didn't find the chicken as tender or as tasty as we were anticipating...
Another must-order dish is the hot and sour fish soup (not so much spicy but the combination of special herbs and spices makes for a very intense feast on the taste buds!) Vietnamese beef salad with lemon on prawn crackers is also very very good.
Need to go as a party of at least 4 to savour a good variety of dishes. Will definitely come next time for the hot pot that we saw everyone else ordering.
Easily one of my top Vietnamese restaurants in Sydney (if you want something other than just pho).!
