Review Sakura Sushi - Canning Vale

Sunwoo Kim
A small local Japanese restaurant. Did not see anyone dining in but saw a couple of take away order. Had some sushi rolls and sashimi for take away. The quality of food is okay and reasonable price for a local place.

Located conveniently in canningvale, lots of parking devent sized menue. 0 street appeal, the window and front of the store is very unappealing, but inside your greated with very friendly staff members and cute eating area. Decent portion sizes, but average tasting food and due to this? the prices seems a little high. This place can easily be improved with fixing with street appearance and either lowering the prices or improving the food quality. Overall it was ok but not terrible, still enjoyed my time there

A nice little Japanese restaurant around the corner, with enough choices on the menu. My favorite is the Tonkotsu Ramen; very tasty broth, nicely textured noodle. Roomy sitting area and friendly staff. We've been back for a few times and will do so again.

Ordered a range of food from here tonight for dinner via ubereats. The order took a long time to be prepared (more than half an hour than originally estimated - total time was 1.5hrs to get our food) and the quality was not great at all. The sushi rice was very soggy and not flavoured. The sushi fell apart very easily and the tempura was bland. For the price, I'd expect better quality for what it is. Thought we'd give this place a try but unfortunately won't be ordering from them again. There are definitely better Japanese restaurants in the area.

I order through Uber eats for this restaurant. I am always satisfied with the curry. I have made alterations to the order (no rice, asking for cabbage instead) and they were happy to fulfill that request. It is always good (ate from here 4 times now)

The food at Sakura Sushi was excellent. Did take about thirty minutes for the food to arrive, however that’s because there were only a few patrons and I think the chefs make it to order. I would highly recommend any of their ramen dishes or their soft shell crab sushi roll!

Friendly, fast and delicious every time! I'll be back again for sure! Closed at 7pm on Friday?? 29th April - no warning

Change in owners for Sakura has sadly seen a big change in taste as well. The spring rolls looked and tasted like a packet you can buy from the supermarket freezer section and the tempura vegetables were a bland, flavourless mangled mess. The whole time we were in the restaurant we could hear the microwave going on and off, but very few sounds of any other form of cooking.

I have been coming here for the past two years as frequently as I can. The most authentic Japanese tastes and flavours I have experienced in Perth. Highly recommend.

Great Ramen one of the best I have had! Also recommend the Tempura bento box.

Regular attendee. I keep wanting to try other things but fell in love with the chicken teriyaki bento box with tempura and miso soup: delicious and great value. Must try something new next time. Perhaps the highly acclaimed ramen noodles. 👌🏼👍🏻

Great place to dine , the restaurant must be doing something right, we've been going for the last eight years,

Best. Sushi. Ever. I live 30mins from this place and still makes the drive there. It's worth it.

Fantastic food, amazing friendly service and the best katsu chicken around. Always love going and seeing the friendly smiling faces.

Fantastic Japanese... the best in the area. Been coming here for years, always fresh & authentic.

I go pretty regularly, like the traditional greeting on entry, and on exit. Always love what's on the plate clean and fresh

Been coming here for years love the food especially the Ramen, owners very friendly, fast efficient service by all.

I love the man that owns this place! He always makes me and my boyfriend laugh and thank you God for answering my prayers and making him put Ramen on the dinner menu as well!❤️❤️❤️ No more traveling all the way into the city for decent ramen. This guys ramen is the business.

Food is always amazing... The half hour drive is worth it

Great Japanese food and I'm a vegetarian and there was plenty of options for me :)

Only my second visit in 6-7 years but the quality of the food that Sakura Sushi put out is second to none and has only gotten better over time.... top notch and I will make sure that we visit more often from now on!!! :)

I have lived in Canning Vale since 2007 and other places in Australia but i always would get a bento set from here. The original owners were fantastic always greet you in japanese and wish u well leaving even tho i didnt speak japanese. Food was fantastic. Recent visit, terrible!!! Cheap tough beef with bits of bone in it, no tofu in soup, sushi with canned tuna instead of salmon, salad was just shredded cabbage. Seriously declined changing owners n cost cutting. Disappointment beyond belief!

Your neighborhood Japanese restaurant. Foods Were pretty good could tell it’s authentic although nothing to shout about. However price was expensive compared to similar joint. Service very slow
Matt
Food is good however slightly pricey in comparison to peers. Would recommend to try if in the area however would not drive all the way here just to dine.

Nice for a local. Food is freshly prepared and staff are accommodating. Sushi rolls are sensational. Teriyaki fish is okay. Not the best Japanese place but certainly not the worst.

Not a bad place... and I usually go here if I am craving Japanese and can't be bothered going far. The teriyaki fish which I usually get is quite nice and I usually get it in a set. The Miso soup though is usually lukewarm... so feels like I am drinking a bowl of salt. I am not sure if this is the norm or not but at other restaurants it is usually piping hot. I consider this more of a takeaway fast food style Japanese than a restaurant type experience.

One of my favourite places. The decor is cute and the staff are nice. We go for lunch and the meals come out really fast. The desserts, especially the kakigori are really nice too. :)

Tried the Tonkotsu Ramen and Chicken Katsu Curry Rice here. The ramen broth was pretty good, although it lacked that silky smooth texture that defines a top class tonkotsu broth. The biggest disappointment here was the chasiu provided. It was dry, tasteless and bordering on inedible.

The Curry rice was decent, nothing to write home about. The katsu was crispy but a bit too thin for my liking.

This is a decent Japanese place, but definitely nothing special.

Nice little Japanese restaurant tucked in Canning Vale. I have always been having their ramen ( the one with corn), Couldnt have enough of their lovely broth! The setting of the restaurant is cosy, but somehow half of the restaurant is blocked by a wall whereby the front counter is, so I guess when you’re ready to order just make sure you grab their attention. Service could be a little bit slow compared to other casual japanese restaurants but hey it’s worth the wait :)

I ordered Beef Udon T/A and my partner ordered Chicken Katsu Curry and Gyoza's T/A, both meals were very yummy and they satisfied our taste buds. Customer service is excellent, friendly telephone manner. I will continue to make orders from Sakura Sushi in the future :-)

Went back to Sakura after 6 months to have my dinner. It took half an hour to serve even though it was not busy at all. The Ramen I ordered was just like normal instant noodle and was soggy. Soup was tasteless. Another disc we ordered was salmon Donburi. With much disappointment the side salad was so so watery and the fish was soaked. Told the staff about the problem and they seem alright without much concern. Totally disappointed and will not go back again.

This is our go to ramen joint when at home as its just around the corner. So for convenience they get top marks. Their broth and noodles and great and the egg is always cooked well.

I'd say they are a little on the pricey side though for the size you get, especially as the ramen costs few dollars more for dinner than lunch eventhough you're getting the same size meal.
El
Very very good ramen! The butter corn ramen was fantastic. The soup was delicious and the beef was so tender. The beef tataki was also extremely good - very soft. Really enjoyed the green tea ice cream mochi which I've never had before, very fresh with a true green tea flavour. Found it very reasonably priced for the quality and portions.
算了吧
The serve of the food is extremely small even for kids, the sashimi like a shit the thickness was tiny like a paper and it costs $19 for a few papers. We been told the small absorbed sashimi souls have 16pieces but it came out only 12 pieces and tiny like a almost transparent. However, all combine together is only the 2-4normal sizes of sashimi outside. The ramen soup is made from instant paste, the add on side for ramen costs $4 for a few pieces of shit. Strong warning to whom is try to be this suck place. And the staffs wasn't speak basic English. Is a hell.
Danielle
Very delicious but very expensive. My boyfriend orders the Chicken Katsu Bento Box and I order the Salmon Bento Box. He adores the chicken and loves it. I like the salmon however, you get it as 2 huge fillets. Most Japanese restaurants/take away joints will cut the salmon in to smaller pieces. I like it smaller as it has more flavour and I think the two fillets are too much. The sushi is always fresh and very tasty. One of the bestJapanese restaurants in the area.

Went here for Fathers day (6 of us) and was my first time eating in as have only ever had take away, which is how I knew the food was good and decided to book. Unfortunately, as per previous reviews the service was awful as they dont have enough staff. We ordered 5 entrees and they took approx 30 minutes to come out. When they did finally arrive they were sent out staggered with the last one being delivered after the rest of us had already finished. It then took another long wait for the mains to come and again they were staggered - considering 4 out of 6 dishes were the same thing (Chicken Katsu Curry) this baffled me - and again, two people were almost finished by the time the last 2 were delivered. The restaurant wasnt that busy at all with only 3 other tables taken. A shame as the food IS good, but our experience was ruined due to the bad service and without so much as an apology or explanation. Will stick to Take away in future.

Ouch! Burnt a hole in the pocket. Go for authentic Japanese cuisine whipped up by authentic Japanese in the city for less the price. Long wait for food and small serving for that price.

One of the local Japanese places. I went here for a quick dinner last weekend. Chicken Katsu and Yakisoba were both good. There was a steak item on the menu. . Can remember the name but it was DELICIOUS! ! We all had food envy. Quick service and yummy food. That's really all you need.
Jay
Service is soooooo slow. Tables are sooooo dirty. Still waiting for food. Can't believe they only have 1 waitress. This is the 1st and last time I'll be coming here.

One of the yummiest ramen in Perth, definitely the most memorable south of the river. I can always find seats as the place is spacious and very family friendly for those of you who have kids, they have cute Japanese toys to distract your little ones. Other standout dishes are the Sakura Salad, Agedashi Tofu, Grilled Squid and their deserts. Love the atmosphere too with their very traditional bambooey interiors. Price is reasonable for the quality of food they provide!

Another hidden little gem - it has a very japanese feel in the restaurant, like being in the country. It gets very busy here not surprisingly as their food is actually quite nice. Had the tonkotsu shoyu ramen and the chicken katsu curry udon. The ramen broth was rich and flavoursome - all other inclusions were standard. Ordered a side of the takoyaki top - this was yummy, but would've preferred it not being deep fried. The curry udon was warming to eat, glad they kept the chicken katsu separate from the udon so it doesn't get soggy. Overall quite a tasty dinner and would definitely come back for their other items - menu is quite extensive for a local restaurant.

The service is fine at this joint.

The Donburi is definitely mediocre at best. The ramen tastes like Chinese instant noodles, and the $4 add on serving sizes for chicken etc. is a joke.

Fresh and decent Japanese food. Average service as they are too busy and not have enough floor staff. For the local they consider good price with reasonable portion. Red beans green tea ice cream. .....Yummy😍

Top quality, made fresh while you wait.....what more could you ask for!
Have been here several times and enjoyed it immensely every single time......consistently high quality!
We ordered a few dishes to try. The ramen, okonomiyaki, sashimi, takoyaki, teriyaki chicken. They were all average and the serving portion wasn't that big. Not really worth the money you pay. Provably won't come back again

We love our local Japanese, they never disappoint. Sakura bento box is our favourite. If you're getting takeaway make sure you call ahead as they can get very busy.

Good food. Local and quick.

Thumbs up from all the family. Sakura Sushi is our restaurant of choice for special occasions such as birthday celebrations. All the food is superb and beautifully presented and the staff are friendly. We have been dining out or ordering takeaway from there for years, and have never had a bad experience. Definitely recommend it.

Love the freshness. Great little place. Lovely fresh food and great service!!!

Decent. I've only ever had take-away so I can't say much on service but food is pretty decent. Personally I prefer Yuki in Willeton, but it's too far for take-away for me.

The portions are large enough - the chicken katsu curry has a huge bed of rice (same with the donburi). Although I find that the katsu chicken is always a bit over fried (dark brown rather than a golden batter), not that it's a big deal since it will be covered with curry sauce.

The bento's are pretty good as well, meat is juicy and the teriyaki sauce is delicious. The tempura batter is nice and light, nothing heavy. Personally, I wasn't happy with the sashimi as I only like it fresh, so I just stay away from those.

Entrees are a bit pricey for my liking, but I would recommend the chicken skewers. Also had the takoyaki, potato cake and tofu - would only recommend if you are not a connoisseur of japanese cuisine, otherwise you will be extremely disappointed..

Tasty, cheap Japanese food. Love the potato cakes, got plenty of vegetarian options to choose from. Regularly get takeaway from here, great weeknight dinner. Recommended.

Sakura Sushi always delivers the goods. It is always delicious, great customer service and food is at a reasonable price. I cannot even fault their restaurant decor. I truly recommend this place to anyone wanting a japanese craving anytime.

It used to be good but recently it became more expensive & less serve. I was so disappointed. I won't recommend to anybody anymore.

Return customer - Always!. My friends and I will always choose Sakura as the go to Japanese restaurant. The food is always delicious and reasonably priced and the staff are always super friendly with their warm welcome at the door :)

Sorry guys but was bitterly disappointed with serving portions (lots of rice but not much else) quality was ok but this leads to a thumbs down on a value for money basis for a casual dining experience.
Mrs Foodie
Ordered takeaway. It was average for the cost. And wait times were longer then expected. Maybe consider it again but doubt it.

First time here. Very impressed, had takeaway and was very happy with the service and the quality of the food.
Just under 50$ for two people, entree and main. Portion sizes were huge.
Would certainly recommend.

Food was delicious and service excellent thank you !!!

Eat in. We have frequented this place a few times and the food and service has always been reasonably good. I made the mistake of getting take away one day. Ordered and paid for the sashimi set. Came home only to realise they only gave me the chicken karaage, no sashimi in sight. Was quite disappointed as the quality of food did go slightly downhill. Never mind the food was almost stone cold as it was sitting on the bench for nearly 10 minutes waiting for one of the workers to pack it and put it in the bag. Lesson learnt, if you want to eat here, eat in, never take away.

Love it! Authentic flavours!

Chinese chef and staff , food and price is ok!
Ricky
It's a japanese food in chinese style. Had a bulgogi and beef tempura set. One was too salty and the other was too sweet. It was a pretty warm night but the aircon was off. Portion was generous though.

What a local!. I love this place. It's casual, simple, comfortable. We always get greeted with a smile and the food is quality (better than your typical suburban casual japanese).
Prices are also just that little bit higher, but well worth it.
Their salads taste fresh, bento set portions are generous, and the salmon sashimi is just yummy. If you like creamy dressings, try the Sakura salad. It's like a coleslaw, only better :)
Just writing this has given me salmon don cravings... :o

Went to Sakura tonight for the first time and was impressed with the food (for a local restaurant). It was tasty and servings were generous for the price.

Local Delivery. I have woken up at 12pm and suffering an AFL Grand Final hangover. Usually craving grease I have decided that sushi is at the top of the list. Hit the shake button on Urban Spoon App and headed down to the local Japanese Sakura Sushi. The place is small, clean and well presented. Staff are friendly. Ordered the Katsu Don and Tuna Sushi Nigiri, it was the hang over cure. Will be back again to try some other dishes. Big thumbs up. Until next time ... 7/10.

Great food and service, just a little bit pricey

Will eat in next time. Ordered a takeaway by phone. When we arrived at given time, most of food was already waiting but we had to sit and wait for a further 10 minutes for other items. Consequence... a lot of ur food was stone cold by the time we got home. Not ideal for tempura or miso soup! Having said that, we will eat here again, but will eat in next time. Teriyaki was excellent. Tasty and quality meat. Sushi great, salad fresh.

Absolutely love it here! Cute little restaurant, I regularly dine in or get take away. Service is always great. The meals are always delicious and inexpensive. Hidden gem!

Local Gem. Sakura Sushi is our local Japanese spot. Its a great little restaraunt that makes great sushi. All the other food on the menu compared to other "Local" japanese restaraunts is quite high in standard. The chicken teriyaki is very nice compared to other local spots. We usualy get the "Set B" which is a Sushi bento set. You get 6 pieces of sushi, miso soup and a bento tray with chicken teriyaki, rice, pickle and salad. And there is never a bit left at the end.
As for the atmosphere, it reminds me of when I was in Japan in a local restaraunt. They greet you as you walk in, they greet you as you leave. Very friendly service
Von
Favourite local place. The staff are very friendly and helpful, they are often seen busy behind the counter but they do not hesitate to assist when asked. The food is fresh, great tasting. I especially like their yaki udon dish and the chicken kaarage. The chicken pieces are really nice and doesn't have fatty bits. A nice, family orientated environment though the eating area is quite small. Sushi was very fresh and reasonably priced at $7 for 6 pieces.

Food's average and slightly pricey for the quality... But still good to have a Japanese restaurant around to help with my occasional craving. Downside is their irregular opening days / hours.
