The food was awesome and excellent service. Highly recommended.
We ordered the mixed entree, chicken Thai fried rice, seafood tom yum soup, beef massaman, roti with peanut sauce, moo yang (marinated pork) and coconut rice.
My favourite dish was the seafood tom yum. The seafood was cooked perfectly and tasted fresh. Calamari and prawns were prepped elegantly. Flavour of the soup was well balanced and so delicious!
The curry puff in the mixed entree is a must try!
The coconut rice had the remnants of kaffir lime leaves, which gave it an interesting taste and texture.
Overall, the execution of the food was on point and was a true representation of Thai flavours.
Service was a bit slow for my liking but probably suits the demographic well.
What do you do when it’s 40 degrees in Melbourne ? Let someone else cook that’s what. Ordered Deliveroo fro Blue River tonight which I have driven past hundreds of times but never gone in. Their menu is reasonably priced and today we ordered a pad Thai to share plus vegetarian curry puffs and chicken satay. The satay was delicious and had a good heat kick while the curry puffs were soft on the inside and light and crispy on the outside. The curry puffs were actually very sweet which I didn’t mind but Kellie found a little too much sweet. Pad Thai was the standout... nice and lemony with Tofu and chicken and more of that chilli heat that I love. Would certainly order again.
Delicious Thai food and the ambience is lovely! Great for a relaxing dinner and chat. BYO wine and corkage is only $3 per person. We were originally interested in doing the set menu but decided to just order a la carte. Got the Pad Krapow, Pad Kee Mao and green curry. My favorite was definitely the Pad Kee Mao because the level of spiciness was just right and the dish was so flavorsome! The other two were good as well and the green curry was slightly mild compared to the other two (only level one spice compared to the other two which were level three) so we asked for some extra chopped chili to add to the bowl. It went well with rice. At the end of the meal we were super full and had a wonderful time! We were there for just a bit over three hours which was unbelievable. Would definitely go again!
I have followed this restaurant since they were located in Glen Waverley. My family and I absolutely love the food here, dinning is very cosy and staff are always very engaging and attentive. Authentic Thai food here never disappoints.
It was a really nice restaurant the food was delicious had the pad see ew and loved it will definitely come back, my favourite Thai place at the moment absolutely worth a try, and the customer service was great
Came to Blue River craving Thai food on our date night. A more modern clean look which was nice to walk into. Staff were super friendly with big smiles. We ordered a number of entrees such as the spring rolls, satay chicken, calamari (highlight). We also ordered the panang curry and pad sew ew noodles (highlight) and of course some naan bread on the side with satay sauce. The food was absolutely delicious. Possibly on the pricey side but worth it for the atmosphere and the quality of the fresh food. Definitely recommend!
Could it be the storm ....
As recommended by Liven ........ good recommendation this time.
White linen, nice and proper, comfortable ambiance and only 5 of us dining in for lunch, what went on here?
Oh, no Lunch Menu .... a single menu all day.
Lots of take aways though, even I was given a Take Away menu after I've ordered my lunch, hint, hint :-)
Anyway .... my 8/10 $20.90 Krua Kling (Pork Spare Ribs) Turmeric was tasty and just deliciously balanced with all the elements, it went well with a bowl of Jasmine steamed rice (clumpy but was okay), super well with a chilled tap Singha beer.
Not the storm that kept people away, it need to have a Lunch Menu to be busy during the day. JT-01/12/2017.
My partner and i order takeout from Blue River every now and then. No complaints here. Quality has always been consistent and the portions are fairly large. Tasty dishes too 👍
Edit: ordered delivery from here the other night and tried the Tom Kha soup. It was pretty bland and watered down. Everything else was okay though.
So good! My visit was wonderful and so worth the wait. The food, service and decor were fabulous. The environment was spacious and elegant. Every dish we had was over the top excellent. I used Liven App and got a $50 cashback! One of the best dining experiences we have ever had. Check it out!
Dined here on Sat night as a group of 4. Last minute booking
so good we could easily get in. Food was tasty – we enjoyed the satay chicken
and tom yum soup with prawns for entrée (nice and spicy), panang lamb curry,
pad khing (ginger) with beef and red curry with tofu & veges for main along
with coconut rice and roti – I loved the rice and roti – really done well. For
dessert one of us had vanilla ice cream – get 3 scoops so good value – I asked
for only 1 scoop of coconut ice cream and it was a nice way to finish a good
meal. Service was slow and a little unattentive – had to ask for things
ourselves but staff seemed friendly when they did give service. This place is
in the entertainment book so we got a nice discount off the total bill at the
end. Would return again as the food was good.
Ambience was a bit bright. Could do with dimming the lights and adding candles. Decor could do with a revamp. Lovely Thai flavours with reasonable portions. Chicken in the Pad Grapow very nice and tender. Pad see ewe beef also delicious. Very busy on a Saturday night.
Was very pleasantly surprised by this place. Went here the other night off a whim. It was great. The restaurant decor is pretty standard, with white table clothes, and carpeted floor. The waiters are nice and attentive without being obtrusive. We had several dishes each were wonderfully made and excellently presented. The flavours were fantastic and portion size was great. Would absolutely recommend this place and it will become a new favourite.
Great value and great taste on the banquet. Good atmosphere and friendly service even on a busy night. No charge for BYO. but glassware was fairly dirty so maybe it's not too often!
Nice clean place, warm service and acceptable food. They didn't do anything vegetarian in curries, so that was a bit of a disappointment. What we ordered was pretty nice, but a meal isn't complete without a curry for us.
It's a shame that this place doesn't get many customers because the food is very good. Salads are fresh and tasty and the fried items aren't too oily but light and crispy.
So, let’s spice things up a little before Friday comes. Blue River Restaurant is no doubt one of the best Thai places I’ve ever been to in Melbourne. This time I ordered the Panang curry that is dry curry cooked in thick coconut milk with capsicum. The prawns are big and cooked perfectly, not too tough and the curry, PERFECT! The restaurant is also very easy to access with parking available at the side street. This restaurant definitely deserves way more attention than it does now!
The best pad Thai we have ever had, better than any in Thailand!! Ordered many of times and never disappoints other dishes we have tried have also been great including the Massman Curry
Very reasonable priced and quick service
Love the Penang Curries. Good takeaway but lacks atmosphere for dine-in
Delicious every time!. We have gotten takeaway and have eaten at blue river thai numerous times, as well as had a party partly catered by them, and every time we have been very happy with the service, and the food we have received.
the spring rolls and cashew chicken are particularly delicious
Authentic Thai flavours. Fish cakes were certainly homemade & nicely done. Love the 'chubby' cute vegetarian spring rolls; flavoursome. If u like lemongrass, try the stir fried with fresh mixed seafood. Perfect match. For chilli lovers, try Pad Ped (mixed veggies, lime leaves, red curry paste & peppercons) and Pad Khee Mao (flat rice noodles with veggies, egg, chilli& basil), u would not be disappointed ^_^
Delicious and consistent. I have ordered form here for many years since they first opened.
definalty some of the best thai food in the area. always fresh and flavoursome.
have occasionally branched out and ordered from elsewhere, and am only ever disappointed. there is always plenty of fresh vegetables in all the stir frys, noodles and currys (and even the BBQ items), something i find is missing completely at most other thai restaurants.
Best Thai restaurant. Blue River has been our favourite Thai restaurant for years. We haven't found any better Thai restaurants in Melbourne, and both agree that the food here is better than what we ate in restaurants on holiday in Thailand!
The food is consistently brilliant. I particularly love the golden bags, and my partner is a huge fan of the massaman curry. The staff are very friendly and we've always had really good service.
The restaurant is on a busy road so there's lots of traffic whooshing past, and the decor of the restaurant is fine although nothing special. The proximity to the train station is excellent if you feel like having a few wines with dinner. And the exceptional food and great service totally make up for any lackings in the decor area - we love eating at Blue River!
Love this food! Not a dish that I haven't enjoyed. Friendly delivery persons.
Fresh vegetables
Fantastic takeaway! Loved the online ordering service, easy & quick. This is a great local place, will definitely be a regular!
Great food.. Even better service!! Favourite thai restaurant !! Al2gthr great Experience.. I Will go back there over and over again :)
Lovely food, we had a Good experience
with great service !!!!!
Specially pad Thai was so good !!!!
All round good food. Hate it when they don't give you enough rice though! So stingy. Apart from that, the food was good but the place was cold with little atmosphere.
Ok, good value though. If you're having a mid-week, I just don't feel like cooking moment, Blue River is a good cost effective local option.
If you're willing to spend a bit more, try somewhere different.
Ps - it's not actually in Surrey Hills. It's in Canterbury, opp the train station.
Lovely little restaurant with consistently good food. Very clean flavours, fresh and nicely presented. Lacks a little atmosphere. Service obliging but not outstanding.
A fan. I have never written a review before....but this is the BEST Thai i have ever had, my work introduced me to this place on a Friday arvo ...and we havent look back... i live far away and when i oder Thai from another place i am alway disappointed as it never up to Blue Rivers standards....the 'special' scollop for starters, chicken cashew and duck curry is amazing. Love love love this place
Good value local Thai. We've eaten here many times and the quality is always good. Prices are very reasonable for this standard of food and the service is friendly and efficient
Ive been to this resteraunt a few times because its in the area....but since being taken over by new owners OMG it is without a doubt the best thai in melbourne! I love my chilli more than i love most things in life and when asking the food to come out "thai hot" it came out just that way! For those that only prefer it to be slightly spicy...this place caters to western tastes while still serving up authentic thai with a spin.
Its a shame that not many people know about this resteraunt because it isnt really in a prime location...but if you are around canterbury or doing a drive by...make sure that you check it out...amazing!
Takeaway Heaven. We had the takeaway recently which gave us a great indication of what the in-restaurant food would be like...and it was awesome.
We ordered the Penang Chicken Curry, Pad Nummunhoy (a stir fried veggie dish), Curry Puff Puk, roti an a rice. We normally don't get through a whole takeaway but there was nothing left this time.
The Penang curry was out of this world and gave us a really good feel for what the in-restaurant dining will be like. When we picked up the order the place was very clean, fresh and well set out. The staff were friendly and eager and as a result we will definitely be back to eat in soon.
Very recommended.
