Review Elle Cafe - Canterbury

Delicious BLT c Chips $17 and worth every cent. Also loved the chicken salad. Views of the park.

Was about to ask about juices available as I was buying five of them. The man who unbelievably is the owner was rude and impatient and left the juice bar window obviously disgruntled to go back to his empty cafe area. He lost my business and i will never go back there again. On other occasions i have found him to also be cold so it's not like he was having having a bad day. Not that that is any excuse.

Just fabulous! A very generous serve of fresh & delicious juice 💓

Cant believe the attitude i got after asking about the juice witch is still advertised but he in a fit couldnt stop telling me about how he makes no money off it, than was very rude and felt like he was on drugs who us the actual owner!! Dont recommend it anymore, such a shame as it used to be a lovely cafe.

Great little cafe, with great customer service. Well priced and worth every cent. I suggest a milkshake, one of the best I've ever had. The young boy (son of the owners) is a special talent.

Always friendly, amazing smoothies and delicious lentil soup. I come here quite often with my kids, due to close proximity to playground, gluten free treats and good coffee.

I purchase my coffee bags from here. Sometimes get a coffee if I'm in a hurry. Great service and friendly staff. I would recommend.
Tony Freeman
Great menu, tasty cakes and friendly service.

Rude service - overpriced and bland. Had to pay an extra $3 for "table service"? Making my dry, boring, bland chicken focaccia cost $14. Try the cafe twenty meters up :)

20 minutes to cook bacon and egg sandwiches. Only one staff member on but still....saturday morning, cmon put another staff member on, its not rocket science. Also while its cooking maybe multitask and make the juices at the same time? Very expensive for average food.

Poor customer service, i was first pointed rudely to sit down! Pricy little potion for take away, ordered a salmon sandwitch and end up with putting inside a take-away box . The powder in the iced milk chocolate still on top of the ice!!

If only zomato allowed a zero rating. <br/>OMG - where do you start!<br/>Perhaps it's the hairy chested owner who thinks he's god's gift to women. That level of sleaze has not been encountered for many a year. <br/>Service and food were atrocious. <br/>I won't bother saying anymore!<br/>Don't waste your time stopping in here.

negative.<br/>Price is too high and the food is just “OK”<br/>I spent almost 40 bucks in such a cafe for just one small plate of what?carbonara, two cup of “squeezed juice” and one portugous tart?no way.<br/>never come here again even though this is the closest cafe around my home.

I recently had a hankering for lasagne and thought I would give Elle one last go - how bad can lasagne be? unfortunately, it can be pretty average. For $15.90, the lasagne was approx 10 layers of pasta but inexplicably only one layer had meat sauce in it? The rest of the layers were dry, just pasta, bizarre. The slab of pasta was covered in a meat sauce. A mean serve of salad on the side, with a horrible commercial dressing - Elle guys, olive oil vinaigrette is probably cheaper and much nicer. <br/><br/>The service was odd - overly fussy without being helpful. Like what I imagine a mid-80s English b&b to be like. I was seated and asked for my order before I'd got the menu, the staff didn't know if they had lasagne or how much, I was asked twice how my food was (just leave me alone already!).The guy on the coffee machine didn't make eye contact and left me feeling cold.<br/><br/>So, all in all, disappointing and I won't be back. It's a shame - it's our local, in a great position, and could be so awesome!

Rude staff, bad coffee. Surly staff (the owner I think), very rude. Bad coffee. Stay away.

This kind of sums up the place that has been our favourite local go to place for years. Elle cafe has everything going for it, great proximity next to a park, easy parking, an local ageing population that love it, and for us a short hop, skip & a jump from home.<br/>They were packed today and so are clearly doing something right and I suspect that for many it continues to be an easy option rather than doing battle with nearby Mailing Roads parking... <br/>Our food was bland and uninspiring, from the unappetising salad, frozen calamari to the ribbon chips & the cold chai lattes...It is way overpriced. <br/>Having said to the waitress 'what's changed this used to be so good?' she offered to get the Owner, who she tells us has been running the business for five months. He arrives with a "You got a complaint?"<br/>However today's message from the Owner was clear when we tell him that the food has really gone down hill<br/>'You're welcome not to come back'<br/>Thank you we won't - now anyone know where we can get a good park at Mailing Road?!

Should've read the latest reviews prior to heading in for lunch today and wasting $$. Surly staff, average, overpriced food and feels like you're in a foodcourt with all the promotional "win a hp printer!" signage stuck to the tables. Really the only thing the place has going for it is its location, and judging by the lack of customers when I pass by even that's not working anymore.

Over priced coffee. Cafe is in a great location, near a playground and parking. However the coffee is over priced and awful. I ordered a take away for $3.90 and had to throw it away. I won't be coming back again.

Coffee is better than a lot of places but still not great. The baristas attitude is far from pleasant.

Don't think I'll ever go back here despite it being the nearest cafe to my home. Since the change of ownership a few years ago, this cafe which I and many other used to frequent often, seems to be in slow decline. Food, coffee, service all average despite being virtually empty when ever I've visited. <br/>Sad to see as Elle cafe was Very popular and used to always be full. What's with the decor, signs everywhere!!! The park view is lovely but sadly not enough to entice me in any more!

Found a really nice Cafe. I really enjoyed the coffee and breakfast. I was served by the owner and she was lovely....friendly and helpful. I look forward to going back for lunch....what was being served looked great.

Great atmoshpere. Check out Elle Cafe. Great food and coffee. Must try the vanilla slices. I love going for my fruit toast. Not sure why last review says Mango salad was small, as I can't beleive the amount of chicken the add to the dish. The focaccias have always been the same size.

No longer good value for money. Have been going to Elle for over 10 years now , but probably wont again. One favourite the dish , the mango chicken salad was less than half the size it used to be, and the open focaccia was about the size of an english muffin, I would not have wanted to pay more than $10-12 for either dish but they were $15-18.<br/> We were surprised to see it so empty on a Saturday but I guess word of the poor value for money is getting around.

OK doesn't cut it anymore. I have been to this cafe a few times prior to it's current incarnation.<br/>Since my last visit there have been a number of good cafes opened in the immediate area which are similarly priced, offer better breakfasts and carry more cache than Elle Cafe.<br/>Coffee - bitter, overextracted - both cappuccino and latte<br/>Breakfasts - $15.90 for eggs florentine and nothing else is a bit steep. I would expect something on the side for that money. Omelette isn't available prior to 11am - wtf !<br/>Breakfast combinations are limited and work out expensive when customised. There is nothing "different" /standout on the menu.<br/>Big breakfast comes in at ~$24 excl. coffee.<br/><br/>Prices need to be lower for standard fare.<br/><br/>Elle Cafe is now on my list of places to forget for the time being. Its a cafe that a local will frequent for convenience rather than for a rewarding experience.

Must try harder. I am very lucky to live in a part of Melbourne where I am spoilt for choice if I fancy having a cafe breakfast. Sad to say that Elle Cafe is now on my list of places to avoid if i'm after anything more than a coffee. Over-priced scrambled eggs that taste like the ones you get on a hotel buffet, served on soggy toast by a surly waiter just don't cut it in such a competitive climate.

Great for lunch or coffee. Delicious, authentic Italian cuisine, friendly service, very welcoming of families with children......... and excellent coffee!

Awful! don't go there!. We used to visit this cafe on a regular basis. since it changed ownership, it has steadily gone downhill. now they don't even turn their lights on when open! Such a shame it was once a terrific place to go for breakfast, lunch or even coffee. The cafe has a lovely view overlooking the park still, but everything else is very disappointing.

Love it. Gnocchi to die for!

The turkey, Brie, avocado and cranberry focaccia is THE BEST.
