Fantastic Business..I have been ordering from here for years..Hot,Fresh,Delicious Authentic Food Asian...Singapore noodles are my favourite :)
It’s our favorite Chinese restaurant since it has been under new management about a year & half ago.
The seafood dishes always cook PERFECTLY never let you down! But you need to order what seafood(s) do you want when you make your reservation.
We had our family dinner here tonight for my father’s birthday.
Our must have dishes:
1), Crab & vermicelli in XO sauce
2), Crispy skin Pecking Duck (it comes with 24 pancakes, comparing other restaurants normally provide 12 pieces).
3, Tofu, Capsicum, Eggplant stuffed with fish cake, etc......
Good food & good service, everyone had their thumbs up. If you want to have quality traditional Chinese meal & not fussy about the “nice looking” of the restaurant. We strongly recommand Empress Of China to you!
Came here last night for a friend's birthday dinner after hearing about this place from another friend. It's recently under new management with a chef from HK Jockey Club, I hear. During this transition they still have their old westernised menus in English with new ones being printed (probably moving away from westernised Chinese food to more of a Hong Kong influence). We got recommended some special dishes which were not on the menu including charcoal grilled pork neck and thousand year old egg with tofu. Veges were a bit oily but was fresh. Food was good, average sized servings at reasonable prices. Service was really good. They served our cake at no charge (initially was told would be charged cakage if they serve it for us). Has great potentials so looking forward to coming back to see what else they have on offer. Make sure you call up in advance to order special dishes like peking duck, live seafood and charcoal grilled pork neck. And ask for specials as they offer more than what's on the menu.
Great value Chinese!. Ordered the special fried rice and beef and black bean, very tasty! Will definitely be back
Love this restaurant. Food is quite cheap, and so far everything I ordered have tasted great, especially the special fried rice. The lady is also very friendly.
Now Express of China at Carlingford isn’t one of the common Chinese Restaurants that you’ll wander into on a regular basis. Yes it’s been there for quite some time now, but few would just decide to pick it out and have a hearty dinner there.
In fact, even after this review and if you want to just walk in for a good meal you’re making a mistake. That’s also why you’d come across to the other ratings and comments that this restaurant offers nothing uncommon and the dishes on menu can be unavailable.
The gem of this restaurant lies in the fact that you cannot just simply pick things off the menu and order away. You need to pre-order the dishes at least a day prior to pick out the good food, otherwise you’ll be finding yourself among the gwei-los with the Hokkien fried rice or lemon chicken.
You’ve heard of Pekking Duck. Not only it’s a sumptuous choice of the restaurant, while other places provide you 12-15 wraps; Empress of China provides you with 24 - just look at the stack of wraps in my photo! It also packages this dish with the duck soup or the duck fried rice which are equally impressive.
You also can’t go wrong with the “fried milk”. Yes, Fried milk! It’s a dish that isn’t the most difficult to make but has been rare to spot in Sydney.
I also find their seafood cheaper, with larer portions in comparison to a lot of the others around town.
Next time when you go to this hidden gem, be sure to order a day ahead to enjoy the chefs’ special to the full depth!
Been told this is one of the best Chinese restaurant around in Sydney. So go there for a family night out. Didn't disappointed. All the dishes are high quality and you can see the attention to details. We have 胡椒豬肚湯, the 豬肚 is cleaned very well and very fresh. I think it's the best I had. The 北京填鴨 is great, skin is tasty and the meat is tender. The restaurant itself is old school on the outside, slight innovated for a moderner look for the inside but if you actually into food not just eating the view then this really doesn't matter. Please note, as it is really a small restaurant it is highly recommend you book and preorder ahead. Or you are likely to be disappoint of not able to pick their speciality.
You wouldn't notice this restaurant on your usual drive around the place but once you have a meal from this place you are bound to return. Generous potions and moderately priced. Make sure you book in advance for a seating on the weekend. They rarely pick your calls for booking and ordering by the way. I would suggest calling them past 9 and do your advanced booking n ordering.
Friendly Host Ricky. Limited dish selection but good quality. Signature dish is Peking Duck with pancake, and deep fried tofu & eggplant. Limited tables for big party so would need reservation in advance and pick your dishes too.
The place came as a surprise to me. It's a private Chinese kitchen (私房菜). If you just walk in, the will be nothing to order. 2-3 days of booking is usually preferred as well as food ordering given they don't keep stock. The ingredients used are of high quality. The Chinese broccoli was crispy and the sweet and sour pork is authentic (not the gwai lo version!) Really glad I found this place.
This is our fourth visits over the last few months. Very delicious Chinese food with fresh ingredients and not greasy. The boss Ricky always tries to meet our demand of special plate of seafood. Highly recommended.
Great Peking Duck with pancakes then stir fried with bean sprouts. Their salt and pepper fried flounder is also amazing. Run by a small friendly team so be patient because it's worth the wait.
