Review Paradai Thai - Carnegie

Dinasha Wimalasiri
The interior is very aesthetic and I loved the design of the seating area. Initially looking at the menu the prices were reasonable and good. However as the food came out, the portions were smaller than expected. The beef massaman curry had an interesting flavour that was different from others and the beef was a bit tough. The duck red curry was great and the amount meat was good. Overall good vibes but portions a bit smaller than expected. Would go again.

Passing Carnegie, found lovely and cozy Thai restaurant while driving. We parked near-by with 2 mins walk. Staff were friendly and helpful. Menu is available by scan QR code but the system was simple and I can pay online via Apple Pay, which is very convenient. Food portion is medium but very reasonably. I’d ordered 4 dishes and thai milk tea but altogether was cost only $60! Will come back here again next time.👍🏻

Spring rolls were okay, I will bot order them again. Egg Noodles were amazinggg, Tom yumsoup was amazing l( if you dont like sour soup then this is not for you) Chicken and prawn dumplings were okay not that great!!

Curry base is ok but the beef & chicken is below average, Thai fried rice tastes too much water. Not recommended for Chinese foodie. Three stars for the interior atmosphere👌
James Lim
We ordered the Pad thai, Red Curry with Chicken. Serving size just enough for two people. If you’re super hungry, I’d recommend ordering extra dishes. Food overall was tasty just bit sweet!

One of the best spots for Thai food, a few mins walk from the train station, I found myself captivated by the charming exterior of this place. The interior space was modern and chic, and the staff are friendly, but the reason for my trips back here is really for their exquisite food 😍✨ Top Recs 🌟 The Thai green curry is remarkable - fragrant, sweet and savoury, topped with generous amount of veg and meat Their fried rice is also an absolute flavour bomb, it was a gratifying experience for me when I ordered it the first time and every mouthful was delightful! Tom yum soup was decent as well, it gets spicier towards the end and as a spice lover, this aromatic, sour, spicy soup was surely tasty! In the midst of a diverse food scene in carnegie, this place certainly stands out for all the best reasons possible, can’t wait to go back for my Thai-food fix soon. ✨

The food was good until we found the hair in curry beef dish. We’ve got the replaced one bonus the rolling eye from waitress. Also the rice was ordered Coconut rice but brought out the blank white rice. Have asked the same waitress and got the answer that’s the mix from coconut rice and white rice (probably with ratio 99% white rice and 1% coconut rice). We have tried the 3rd spoon of rice and I am pretty sure it’s just a white rice. Thanks for the really bad customer service, we never back again.

Loved this plc. Authentic taste with good pricing, big serving, yummo 👍
Michelle
Got takeaway from one of my favourite Thai spots. Lovely pad kee mao and papaya salad, reasonable price and good service. Will return

Delicious food and great dining experience. Love the crispy pork with broccoli and red chicken curry

This place is just my favourite restaurant in Carnegie. Great vibe, great decor, lovely staff and super affordable. Food is always reliably delicious! Surprisingly yummy breakfast menu as well. Can’t go past the chai latte.

The worst delivery service I have ever experienced. I've called 5 times. The first 2 times they hung up on me. The 2nd 2 times they told me the driver was coming. The last time they said they are calling the driver and they'll call me back. But they never call back
Steph
The restaurant recently underwent a mega renovation & the new set-up is simply amazing - sorta like a cafe vibe.

Food is always amazing, one of the best Thai food you can find in the Carnegie area and for such a cheap price, literally so worth.
Vivian
4.5

Such a busy venue but the food here is really delicious, my go to soup tom yum had good flavour but not enough prawns! Pad Thai was good but we found the curries we ordered a bit too diluted with coconut milk

I'm interested to try this restaurant since it is near my place. I ordered the tom yum seafood with the flaming calamari seafood. Both dishes have a rich flavor which i like! They give a lot of toppings and the flame gives me a new experience ❤️ the calamari are very soft, the other seafood are cooked well. The tom yum have mushrooms in it 👍🏻 but i suggest that it will be better if the tom yum add more chilly so that it adds the spiciness of the dish. Overall i really like the foods
Nick
Food and prices are not bad. They served my first dish and I waited more than 25 mins for my second one. Other than that, all good.

A classic- we come here time and time again. Cannot fault the food. Service is nothing fancy and you might need to wait for ages to order, but the food arrives quickly to make up for it!

We ordered the duck curry and stir fried vegetables. I was surprised by the various fruits that were in the curry like the apple and longan. Wasn’t used to having so many different fruits in the dish but went surprisingly well with the curry. I like the pineapple as well, the fruits gave a certain acidity to the dish to balance out the heavy flavour of the curry. Overall enjoyed the meal!

Got a park right out the front, and was drawn to the funky cool interior. Checked their menu outside and had my heart set on a chicken larb for lunch.
Walked in, was allocated a table & given a menu.
No chicken larb on the menu!
I asked the waitress when she approached me, and apparently it’s only on the dinner menu! WTF? It’s a salad!
So, ordered a Pad Thai with chicken.
A generous portion of noodles with dry chicken breast and sweet chili sauce.. No egg, no coriander, no love at all. Asked for hot chili sauce to at least make the sweetness subside..
Very ordinary Thai food.
Won’t be going back..

Once again an amazing experience at our favourite place. The moment we walked through the door, our experience was as amazing as any other. The waitress remembered us through our constant visits and greeted us with a warm welcome at the door. As per usual we ordered the Chicken Pad Thai, dumplings and this time decided to order a side or Roti bread to accompany everything.

The Chicken Pad Thai is our favourite on the menu. Best Pad Thai we’ve tried and the serving size is amazing for the price. (10/10)

The chicken and prawn dumplings are a must have! The perfect accompaniment to go with any main dish. When we’re feeling extra hungry, we usually grab 2 servings 😂 (10/10)

The Roti Bread & peanut sauce was delicious comfort food. Would recommend only ordering 1 serving per 2 people as it is very filling! (8/10)

Definitely worth visiting, best Thai in Carnegie!

-A&T

The food was okay but I've had it with these restaurants who, when paying the bill, tell you there will be a surcharge for using either a credit OR debit card. If a restaurant insists on the extra charge for using a card it should be noted prominently on the menu.

I know there is a minimal cost to the restaurant but at least let the customer know - or build it into the pricing.

I have been here a few times now, the first time the servie was very attentive and quick, and the curry portions were big and yummy filling my friends and I up! the second time the service wasn’t as quick but it was also very busy! Definitely book a table if you’re interested in going here as it is very popular. I do recommend a visit though it is worth while :)

First time i had food from here was through uber eats. But last week, i have been to these restaurant. I didn’t know they had other option like fish tacos and eggs and avocado crossiant. It was so good, even the thai food over here damn yum. Its not too expensive but it is also not in low. Its okayish as it in the price range.
El Panchettorino
Not too sure why this place is so highly rated on Zomato. Food here was at most mediocre. We were however really disappointed with the service provided where it was a massive challenge to get our food ordered and delivered to the table.
Willtravelforfood17
I ordered a serve of Thai fishcakes and a pad khee mao for takeaway. The Thai fishcakes tasted homemade and were springy and tasty. The dipping sauce was sweet, savoury and peanutty and a great accompaniment to the fishcakes. The pad khee mao was fried well and spicy which I loved. There was a generous serving of vegetables and meat in it and the vegetables were crunchy, sweet and fresh. A great meal.
David Harrington
A very brightly lit cafe/restaurant full of non Asian people eating Thai food that is far far too sweet. Not all bad but less palm sugar please guys and we may consider coming back
㊙️ The Traveling Foodie
Great food as always. Strange menu. Mix of western cafe and Thai food. The service was slow in the morning with only about 15 customers.
Kitchen was very quick to serve.
The duck meat was tender and mix well with lychee.
Michelle Low
Red duck curry ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️: added lychee and pineapple to give it a refreshing flavour! Highly recommend this!

Tom kha soup ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️: this is the soup to go for if you can’t really take spicy. The lime and the coconut in the soup just really enhances the flavour
Nelson NG
Come here for lunch. Can't fault it. Admittedly I believe they cater for westerner but the Thai section of the menu is yummy. We order the Duck curry, speciality seafood and Kana moo krab. All is good and service is good too. Highly recommended
Jocelyn
Renovated recently and is now much bigger
Very nice ambient. Wide food selection at reasonable price. Will return again to try other dishes.

I’ve been eating here for almost 10 years. It’s the best Thai food in the area, always delicious and affordable. The Pad Med Mamuang and Pad See Ew are standouts.
Jarrad
See the attached picture. Dishes come half full. Food is decent but delivery took twice as long as what was originally estimated. Very disappointed

Food is here is pretty good but nothing super special. The resturant has a nice atomsphere making a good place for mid week catch ups or causal dates.
The place has lots of good reviews which may have put my expectations up too high. It was not as amazing as I had anticipated. Service could also be more friendlier. More smiles and warmer welcomes. The waitresses looked like they were counting down the minutes til home time.
Linda
My sister and I visited Paradai Thai on 3rd August 2018. We ordered the Chicken Pad Thai, Vegetable Panang Curry, 2 Coconut Rice’s and Thai Milk Tea. The customer service was great. Everybody was very polite, efficient, helpful and food was definitely delicious. Thank you to Nicki for helping me with the take away. See you soon :)
Ayme
Great food, yellow curry is a winner.
Good service and very busy place!
Roti and peanut sauce and tom Kha soup also fantastic choices. Recommended!
Hungry Little Dinosaur
Have been here several times, and been pleasantly satisfied each time. Pad Thai could have had more veggies but all good. Great pad ped though!
Jony Kang
The friendly staff and the food were not bad. Though not big, the interior was also nice.
The price was not high, but some foods felt a little expensive.
Miki Glat
Staff: 4/5
Food: 3/5
Decor: 3/5
Price: 3.5/5
Will return? No

The Tom Yum soup was very lovely but the pork in the Pad Thai was not “crunchy pork”. It was fatty tasted off & made me feel sick. It ruined the entire dish. For that reason I can’t give it a 4/5.
Lindy Lang
This place used to be amazing- no matter what you ordered.
Had gone downhill over the last few months.
Am going to look for a new Thai go to place.

While the pad Thai is still decent, everything else ordered the last few times has been disappointing.

Pity.
Xavier
So disappointed about the service and dishes. We ordered two noddles. Both of noddles did not have any flavor and very stickily. The service was extremely bad. NEVER COME BACK.
Breakyluver
A bit disappointing. Agree with another review that Paradai Thai II across the road is a lot more flavoursome. All I could taste was fish sauce in both our dishes. Satay sauce with roti even seemed watered down and lacking flavour. Nice ambiance and service did a great job for being so busy but food was a let down.
Nit Mish
had a peanut satay curry which was good, and a veggie stir fry which was a little too sweet for my taste. a decent place to go to if you are in the neighbourhood.
Munching Pandas
Quiet famous thai dining spot on Carnegie. Been here for family lunch couple of times as the foods were good, place is quiet nice to hang around and the service is decent.

Pandas🐼🐼🐼
Soft shell crab papaya salad -one of the best I’ve tasted so far, condiments are fresh and the dressing is tasty but not too overpowering, I love that they add pork cracklings to give some extra crunch to the salad.
Other foods are standard good
Huge portion of steamed rice
Thai milk tea - they made it fresh from scratch

Pandon’t❌❌❌
The dining experience were okay but nothing special that made me specially crave for it, so its just average.

Looking forward for improvements as always!

Charlotte Cooper
You won’t be surprise why they have got so many customers, really good food, just really tasty and full of flavours. Very authentic. The price is reasonable.they build another extended area to house more customers but it’s very stuffy in there, and a very strong smell of paint.
Suburb Review
I prefer paradai 2 across the road. This one isnt as good. The pad thai lacked flavour and that saucy deliciousness that number 2 constantly brought me back to. Wanted to give this one a shot as it was the original... but will never be back.

Signature Red duck curry- sweet and savoury curry! Unlike your typical spicy curries, this red duck curry packs a punch of flavours, made with a variety of fruits such as apples, lychee and pineapple. It’s really unique and quite delicious however there was hardly any duck for the price of $15.50 I’d expect more slices of duck but when the plate came it was over crowded with fruits and only offered 5 small pieces of duck.

Khao Pad- nothing special, I can make better fried rice at home for a 1/4 of the price.

Thai Milk Tea- tasted really authentic, just the right amount of sweetness and the tea was really strong.

Coconut ice cream with peanuts and black salt-
Was really looking forward to this but was pretty disappointed. Couldn’t taste much coconut, but instead tasted really eggy and not even a sweet custard taste but straight up egg in your mouth, and the sea salt was very over powering like eating a salty cold scrambled egg.

Ambience- 1
Taste- 0.5
Value- 0.5
Freshness- 1
Customer service- 0.5

Amazing Thai food. This place is a regular for us. Found it by accident and my god I’m so glad we found it.

Located on the Carnegie strip of shops, it’s somewhere I highly recommend. Go and try out their food
Kloe Kardaras
Had the pad see ewe, a chilli beef dish, spring rolls and prawn crackers. Two mains were nice & flavoursome, loved the spring rolls. Beef was a bit hard, prawn crackers weren't great. I liked it but i don't know if i would order again.
R Uddin
Friendly staff. Mouth watering Thai foods. Their beed salad and pad Thai are exceptional. They do get very busy and crowded, specially from Friday to Sunday. Nonetheless, its worth the trouble.

This is the best Thai place to eat in Carnegie
The staff are great & the food is awesome we had chicken wings , satay skewers , soft shell crab salad , chiefs special crispy pork with broccoli & beef curry that was perfect 10/10
Alexia
Came here for lunch with my fiancé and we ordered Caramelise pork, the prawn pad thai, and the whole crispy fried snapper. All three dishes were sensational and cooked to perfection. The different flavours made it all so so tasty and the staff we loved. Not to forget to mention how good value for money this place is.
I ❤️✌️️paradai Thai.

Paradai Thai
One of my favourite Thai restaurants in Melbourne!
Great food, great ambience.
Love coming here to try new dishes as well as eat the usual ( pad thai, or pad see ew, with a Tom Yum soup) - all of which i recommend!
Will be back soon.
Thanks, Ice Cream of Melbourne🍦x

Average food. For some reason, it doesn't taste as good as Paradai Thai II across the road although it's less busy and crowded - much easier to get a seat on a weekend.
Manisha Mootha
Excellent food and service! The restaurant used fresh crunchy vegetables and rich flavours. They even accommodated our vegetarian requests very well. Loved every dish.
Sancha Noranho
Don't let their unassuming exteriors deceive you, this restaurant is a hidden gem in Carnegie! Love the food here! Have always had the most flavoursome, delicious Thai food for a very reasonable price! Would definitely recommend going back to try other food on their menu!
Alano
As far as vegetarian dishes go, this place is a solid 4.5.
I have been eating here for over 9 years now and it has been consistent with its (great) taste.
I love the Green Curry, Pad Med Mamuang, and Pad Thai in particular.
1/2 star was removed since portion size of some dishes is smaller than others.

Hungry Panda
The is probably one of the best Thai restaurants I've been too, with nice strong flavours and reasonable prices. It is significantly cheaper than other places, although the serves are a bit smaller (but still enough to eat and definitely worth it for the price).

The environment here is also a bit conflicting - it's really nicely decorated, like a brunch place, which is much nicer than you'd expect for a cheap Asian restaurant, but it can also get really crowded and noisy (you'll probably be sharing a table with others) so is not the best place if you want to stay and chat for awhile.

All in all, a great restaurant for a cheap and tasty meal, just make sure you book first!
Bella
Favourite Thai place in the area for Dine in and take away (available on Uber Eats). My family's favourite dish is the Pad See Ew (sorry for misspelling) with Prawns. Cosy atmosphere, and my favourite of all the Paradai restaraunts!
Nicole
I would defiantly recommend the green curry! It's absolutely amazing, defiantly my favourite in Melbourne. Would also recommend he chicken peanut skewers! A great spot for couples and families and the food is set at a great price.
EL
The food was absolutely amazing. We really enjoyed the green curry and pineapple fried rice. The decor at paradai Thai one is nicer than two and a great date location. I would defiantly recommend this restaurants to couples and families that want an amazing authentic Thai meal.
Lenashilina112
The food was good and I like the style and decorations in this place. But customer service attitude was not that good, waitress with no smile at all.
Rio Grande
Normally not too bad, tonight I ordered a green chicken curry. The chicken was raw - which I didn't realise until I ate a huge piece! Unacceptable in any food service provider. Get a new cook.
FoodieLovelove
It was really good! Had red duck curry, Chicken Phadthai, pork stew. Pork just melts in your mouth ! Would've earned 5 stars if the portion were to be bigger !!
Marsi26
We ordered 2 small bowls of prawn Tom yum soup priced at $7.50 each, seafood special and papaya salad and 1 coconut rice. What arrived: papaya salad first then seafood plate, steamed rice then hot pot of prawn Tom yum (menu price $16). We returned the rice to get coconut rice. Then soup came last. We didn't complain anymore as it was late and we said another $1 is no drama. Then the bill arrives--we were charged $18 for the hot pot. When I alerted the cashier she explained: oh the prawns are more expensive so we had to charge extra? I said where did it say that? Oh there's a sign on the wall--small one on the back and we were seated near the front window. I said it's not on the menu nor did the waitress say anything about it. Oh I will tell the owner. No it's not enough. You should be honest with your customers! I did not want to make a scene for $2. It's not the dollar value it's the lack of honesty or the wait staff's incompetence. There was even no offer of rectifying the bill or an apology. Sorry but we're not going back there in principle. Until they learn that correct and honest information and good customer service make a business work.

Had lots of expectations, I thought of changing from noodle to a different gravy and rice. Did mistake of asking the experts from the restaurant. It was not at all spicy. Yes they have nice soothing aroma in restaurant. It did not meet my expectations.
Latitudes
Delightful service in a very busy restaurant. Food very disappointing. Tough meat. Tried both beef and pork dishes and all tough. Slapdash sauces. The yum nuer seemed to be bathed in commercial tomato sauce alone. Will not return
Bagelhutzy
All the Paradai Thai restaurants in Melbourne are winners! Not as good as number 2 but still a hit! Healthy, fresh, flavoursome Thai food at a very reasonable price! The staff were very pleasant! The dumplings were a stand-out! All in all a really good feed!
Lorissa
The place is tiny. But food is good. Must try Tom yum soup! Full of flavor and quite big size. Curry chicken was creamy and tasty, but I don't like the chicken wings and fish.

So many Thai restaurants in Carnegie now. People have more choices. If you don't improve your food quality, people won't come back.
Leo
I find Paradai Thai has improved immensely with their new decor and much tastier dish. Better than Paradai II across the streets. Today I had red curry chicken and tamarind crispy fish. All taste good but not spicy. For drinks, ordered the Thai ice tea. Overall the food here is pretty good.
Corina Kuoch
Ordered pad thai, a chicken dish and a papaya salad - all with extra chilli and it was beautiful! Can't compare it to Paradai Thai II as I havent been but we would come back. Good atmosphere and friendly customer service. Would recommend
Davis Yap
Was kinda disappointed when I ordered the curry puff for delivery. It was just 4 small pieces of chicken curry less than a size of a small egg. Not worth the money...

However, the other food was good.
Mostly Asian
Shocking service. Rude. Our orders came out and unfortunately I had to send mine back due to onions being in the dish and I am allergic.
35minutes later my dish comes out. It was laab gai! Hardly a complex and time consuming dish.
I was sorely disappointed with the price as to the quality of the food which was average.
Prices on this site/app differ to those instore which are more expensive.
No split bills either which is both common and completely ridiculous.
Will not be back.
Shimona
Update:
Standard has gone down. They don't even do Thai omelette anymore. Tomyum is overly sour, and fish is not authentic anymore.. More like Thai styled fish and chips (without the chips). Sad.

Paradai Thai 2 has been so excellent, we never felt the need to try Paradai Thai (original? Vanilla? 1.0?) until one evening when we were so hungry we just couldn't deal with the line at Paradai Thai 2. It was almost as busy at Paradai Thai 1, but we managed to get a table. We had beef waterfall salad, khai jaew (fluffy omelette), and a steamed fish. Yum yum and YUM. All so excellent, we decided to stuff ourselves with dessert too.
Zhang Fei
Terrible service, waitress very unfriendly. We are kept waiting for more than couples of minutes to order, while we can see some waitresses chatting behind. Annoyingly noisy place, terrible to go with your friends or with your family. Just use here for takeouts, the foods and price are fine. But never eat in here.
Anna
Service missing gave our rice to the table next to us and when we questioned our order took it from them and put it on our table ,forgot to bring our drinks until we asked for them .unfortunately the chicken satay were terribly bland .our main meals though we're very nice Kannada moo krob crispy pork with broccoli amazing

One of our favourite take away restaurants in Carnegie. Great vegetarian options in the menu. The Restaurant is usually busy so best to book.

Great services, pretty good food, lovely prices.
Pla sam rod was perfect. Green curry was nice. Tom yum was not as good cause the sourness was overwhelming, and it was hard to ladle the soup, maybe a round shape pot will solve the problem?

Friday night is packed ! Once again tasty curries and very fast service. They do not disappoint. Can get a little Loud / noisy when it is packed.

Been there a few times, nice little busy place with great location. Recommend their green and red curry dishes, personally love coconut creamy texture so I ve always been well satisfied with their rich coconut curry sauce

Very popular thai on Carnegie's main strip.

Great tasting food. Had the Green Curry and seafood flaming dish with coconut rice. A must try.

Find me on Instagram @melbourne_explorer or MelbourneExplorer.com.

I'd tried Paradai II just across the road years ago, and that was a pretty good experience. The same can be said of my recent experience at the place where it all began. Overall the dishes were pleasant for a very hungry stomach, but no dish was without it's downsides. I felt the best dish was probably the green curry. A bit above average in quality, it was tasty and creamy. It did perhaps lacked a bit of depth and relied too much on sweetness. The pad thai and pad see ew were very salty, particularly the latter. They had good wok flavour and a good touch of both tamarind and sugar, but the excessive salt really brought things down. Finally, the BBQ chicken came as tender grilled chicken in a generous helping, nicely presented. I did enjoy the tenderness, but in terms of flavour it seemed to rely on sweetness rather that a good BBQ flavour. Somewhat of a disappointment in that regard. I feel the food is also reasonably priced on the whole, referring mainly to the non-hawker dishes. The hawker dishes are perhaps slightly above average price. Not much difference between the two sister restaurants, and I don't think either would be my go to Thai place. There's plenty of good food on offer in Carnegie as it is.

Very good, Thai food in reasonable price. The atmosphere is much better than Paradai II. You should choose this one if you want to eat Thai food
Tony
Did not think this was as good as Paradai Thai II across the road.

Green curry isn't too bad, but the pad thai had room for improvement. A bit hard to justify coming here considering there are so many excellent dining options on the same stretch.
Eatwithhendri
I visited Paradai Thai by mistake. My intention was to try Paradai Thai II which is just across the street with higher rating and i didn't know there are 2 Paradais in Koornang rd at that point. Stir fry noodle (pad mee) was the winning dish, my pad thai was flat in terms of flavour, green curry was average. Quite an average Thai dining.
Emily
Fantastic Thai food! This restaurant creates authentic and delicious food, consistently amazing. Is our #1 Thai take away place in the surrounding area. The lamb curry, pad satay, lemongrass chicken and green chicken are all amazing.
Linda
Great place delicious thai food, pretty cool and hip place. Always is busy so better to come as a couple rather than a group as they can fit you in better. Good price for what you get, you can get main, dessert and drinks without hurting your wallet! Always leave with a very full belly, you can tell the food is fresh
Georgia
Table of 6, my main meal didn't come out until the entire table had finished theirs. No apologies, no explanation. Simply not good enough really.

I had a pretty bad experience with this restaurant....we've ordered some prawn crackers, seafood salad and some fried calamari. The prawn crackers starters were terrible so we exchanged them for some spring rolls...that were very bland, almost tasteless. Then, between the first meal and the second we had to wait for like 30 min....and the size of the meals was just embarrassing.....for that price I expected a much larger size (16 $ each). There were a few tiny calamari that came with a very little bit of salad....and basically no salt and pepper; although it's called salt and pepper calamari and a slice of lemon....now in all seriousness, is this for real? The seafood salad was nicer, but it had a bit of onion, two iceberg lettuce, a bit of fish, two squids, a few prawns and done! So after paying this unworthy dinner we had to go and get a proper meal somewhere else...I won't ever come back there and I do not recommend this place.
Pandawan
Good place! Good friendly quick as lightning service. Ordered the 1) red duck curry 2) special seafood hot plate (with FIRE!) 3) papaya salad with soft crab 4) and the lovely Coconut JUICE. - highly satisfied - highly recommended - will go there soon (want to try out the rests of the menu)

I've been wanting to try this place for a while now!! But seems to be consistently busy / packed every time I'm in the area so best to book! Unless you want to eat after the dinner rush hour.

Anyhoooo I had to fight hard not to let my imaginary second stomach take control when ordering. The place was packed! No walking space with people waiting to pay and waitresses busting their chops to satisfy hungry people!

I wanted to order one of each from the menu after spying what others were eating around me. It's a small place .. Easy to do.. :)

The test benchmark for me when it comes to Thai is the green curry.. This was amazingly good! Not sweat to the level of drinking sugar water and the bamboo shoots used were thinly sliced and did not overpower the curry. Smooth coconut along with the herbs... oh man!! hmm this little piggy did not leave a drop!

The glass noodle salad at first reminded me of fish sauce in the sun too long... think mild fish sauce that's watered down and ur there. I did like it though.. don't take it apart to eat...

The coconut ice cream ... I kid u not .. I think one of the waitresses stole a bite ... found it odd that there was a small wedge missing when it was served. Our teaspoons were clean at least. In testing it out the theory .. we ordered another.. the second one had no wedge!! haha

Oh the coconut ice cream served with salted nuts and mild / reduced condensed milk in a small beacon was really good! We could have had a tub of it. Light and not too sweat.

Carole and I had previously tried the takeaway from their sister restaurant in Carnegie, Paradai Thai 2 - this time we decided to try the original Paradai Thai for and on-site dinner.

In summary, we both believe this is a very good Thai restaurant. It lived up to most of our expectations and we enjoyed delicious, quality food at a reasonable cost.

For our entrees, we chose the chicken spring rolls and the fish cakes. I was particularly interested in the fish cakes as I had never tried these before. They were served with sweet chilli sauce, cucumber and peanuts. I enjoyed the experience - they were tasty, delicious and I could not have chosen better for my entree. Carole thoroughly enjoyed her chicken spring rolls.

Carole tried the Pad Prik Pao for her main course, this being composed of stir fried calamari, prawns, onion, capsicum and sweet chilli jam. She thoroughly enjoyed it and thought it was delicious and filling. The portion was generous.

On the other hand, I particularly like Thai curries and thus chose a Penang Curry, which is a red coconut curry with cashew nuts, Kaffir lime leaves and basil. You can have your choice of vegetable, chicken, beef, seafood or prawns - I chose prawns. Totally met my expectations - was tasty, delicious, very much a Thai curry, full of flavour and, when paired with coconut rice, it was a quality, substantial meal. I could not have chosen better for that night’s main meal.

I was very keen to try a dessert - Thai Styled Steamed Coconut Custard. Well, I was not disappointed in the least, I will just leave it at saying it was excellent and very enjoyable, thoroughly recommended if you visit.

There is a wide variety of menu items from entrees, through main course to desserts which will cater to any taste. Importantly, for some, they are not all curries.

The wine and beverage list is basic, and, as this is not what you would term fine dining, the wine list is adequate. Carole enjoyed a Sauvignon Blanc which was crisp and suited her meal very well.

The table service, and wait staff were adequate, and the time between courses was well spaced, which I find necessary, these days. I’m not interested in ramming food down my throat quickly, as so many restaurants serve the food too quickly and diners are almost duty-bound to hurry.

This is best termed a bistro, there are a lot of tables in the restaurant, which is very small. It is not this place for a romantic dinner and honestly, I don’t think it’s meant to be that way. Is a good place for a relatively quick dinner composed of excellent food, perhaps a drink or two and you’re on your way. Of course, it gets quite noisy and there are no battles on the walls to try and minimise noise, unfortunately. A couple of tapestries would probably go a long way to helping.

In terms of value for money, it is very good, we got out of it for about $35 a head which for a very good 3 course meal plus drinks was very good value indeed.

We are sure to return as Carole and I are anxious to try more of the menu

Both of us thought of ordering a single dish. We were not hungry at all. Ended up selecting the common Tom yum soup. Yes it was okay. It was a too sour than the usual taste but it's Tom yum anyway.

We love the thai food here and have been here five times, absolutly the restaurant we have been most in Melbourne. Thai milk tea is always my favorite

We have been to coming to Paradai Thai in Carnegie very regularly since we found this great little cheap eat!
The food here is delicious and has a great price point to match, even better is that wait staff are friendly, and the restaurant is BYO which is again great when saving some $$$.
Highly recommend booking on most nights and will be suggesting this restaurant to friends.

We were being fussy and wanted to have something appetising for dinner one night. What is more appetising than Thai food on a warm day? So we dropped by Paradai Thai in Carnegie which was buzzing and packed when we arrived however they managed to squeeze us in at a little table at the back. Being the big eaters we are, we always seem to be given small tables! However we were glad they even had anything for us without having to wait given the very short notice!

We ordered quite a feast to fill up our little table. We ordered the red duck curry with coconut milk, vegetables and basil which was very nice. The duck meat was really soft and the curry itself was flavoured well. We also ordered a vegetable dish which had Chinese broccoli, chilli, garlic and lemon juice which was very tasty and enjoyable. The veggies had a nice crunch to it. To eat with all the dishes we got the Pad Thai which was also flavoured really well.

We also got the steamed barramundi with lemon juice, chilli, garlic and coriander. Unfortunately that was probably the only disappointing dish of the night. The fish was just lacking flavour and there just didn't seem to be enough lemon juice, chilli and perhaps even garlic to give it that kick that a good Thai steamed fish should give. It was very plain. If it wasn't for this disappointing dish it would have been a perfect meal!

The service was very good, staff were attentive and you can take comfort in that they were true Thai people cooking and serving the food, giving you that authentic feel. They all looked like they were having a really good time as well while they were working away.

Overall, I would recommend if you would like some good Thai around the area, however I just can't vouch for their steamed fish!

To be honest. A server is a little bit rule but others are good. Have been here several time. As is interior design and cutlery are delicate make me comfortable. The food is general but in a regular price.

It must be hard to be a Thai restaurant in Melbourne. It's a cuisine done very well for a long time. Paradai is good and nothing wrong with at all. Serves good traditional Thai food.

Great food, generous quantity. Variety is good enough too. Costs are really fair for the stuff you get. Great for a family dinner. Don't expect special service but for the cost and taste, it's perfect.

Good place to casually dine, well priced for what it is, generic tasting food, great for families. nothing phenomenal but easy & quick. Teenagers love it!!

Paradai Thai has had a face lift and it’s looking fresh! This place is one of my go-to places to satisfy a Thai food craving. It’s got a great local vibe and always seems to be busy. Not only do they run a sit-in restaurant, they also do takeaway too, so take note if you’d rather eat Thai in the comfort of your own home in your pj’s.

This place is always busy, so we though its definitely a good sign. I had the pad thai which was pretty slandered and nothing special. Probably the wrong dish to try. Would definitely go here again to try their red/green curry which is usually a good indication of how the rest of the dishes would be.
